I attended the Long Island School of Healthcare Careers during the heart of the Coronavirus…read morepandemic back in 2021. The first course I signed up for was Phlebotomy. The Instructor, Mrs. Chew, was nothing short of amazing! Never would I have dreamed I could take blood through venipuncture. However, Mrs. Chew, was extremely patient, precise, and exuded so much confidence, it was infectious (in a good way). Dr. Dar teaches EKG and other courses. I had him for EKG. Dr. Dar has a unique way of teaching that is surprising super effective. He has been doing this for a long time and his methods work. EKG is perhaps the most challenging course, but everyone in my class did more than pass. We all aced the course, thanks to Dr. Dar. Josephine is a Registered Nurse who took over teaching my Nursing Assistant course. She also proctored the clinical rotations for my class. I cannot say enough good things about Josephine, but, without her I would not have had the opportunity to do my clinical rotations. My original instructor for the class had a family emergency midway through the course. Josephine had her own class, but she did a double everyday, just so my class could finish and do clinical rotations. Do you know what it takes to do a double shift? Josephine did a double shift everyday for 3 weeks, plus the clinical rotation week! Now, I have read the other reviews about unprofessionalism. Apparently, they have not met Josephine. The Director of the School, Manny, greets every class on their first day. Manny inspired me to take the EKG and Nursing Assistant courses. I am so happy I did. Now I am a Certified Phlebotomist, Certified EKG Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, and Certified Patient Care Technician. Let me tell you the importance of having your own certification. You can take your certifications anywhere! There are hospitals that will train people without any certifications. They will teach you the necessary courses, Phlebotomy, EKG, and Nursing Assistant, then the employee can work for that hospital. So why do you need your own certification if this is true? When that same employee goes to apply for a similar position at a different facility, the facility would be impressed by the experience, but they would also need you to produce a certificate stating the qualifications. Without this certification, the job would not be able to hire this qualified candidate. Then how was this candidate working at the hospital? The hospital trained the candidate, then qualified the candidate to work under the umbrella of the hospitals' certification. There is an old saying that goes, "God bless the child that's got his own. That's got his own." Tuition is reasonable at the Long Island School of Healthcare Careers. I believe there is a payment plan which helps prospective students who may not have the tuition in full at the onset, but, with small payments would not have to worry about taking out a loan and thus, would be debt-free by the end of the course. After my graduation from the Long Island School of Healthcare Careers I was able to immediately work as whatever I wanted, Phlebotomy, EKG technician, Nursing Assistant, or Patient Care Technician. I chose to work for an agency as a Nursing Assistant. My agency pay averaged $21 hour. I gained 8 months experience from multiple Nursing home facilities, thanks to the flexibility of my agency. Then, I chose to hone all my skills so I applied to a magnet hospital on Long Island. The hospital retrained me because of protocol, but, I had my own certifications to secure the job which put me above the other potential candidates. Currently, I am on pace to finish my Bachelor's degree by this upcoming Christmas season. My next step is to take my career to the next plateau. I was accepted into 3 different nursing schools and I only applied to one medical school, but the medical school accepted me, too. My foundation into the healthcare field started at the Long Island School of Healthcare Careers. I often try to go back to talk to the new students, much like Manny does. I do not consider myself to be extraordinary, but, I am an ordinary person doing extraordinary things. The Long Island School of Healthcare Careers prepared me and they can prepare you, too. Thank you for reading this and for your time. Good luck with all your future endeavors.

This is a great small School! I just finished the PCT program there. Highly recommend!read more
