THE TEAM @ PHANTOM ELECTRONICS ABSOLUTELY ROCK! Long story short, I contacted PHANTOM to rehabilitate a new stereo install ( from another shop ) that never worked from the initial install , and was an electrical hazard and faulty. That stereo shop in Simi Valley ( Discount Stereo ) totally screwed up my car with an install as well as causing a couple grand in body work damage as a result of negligence and refused to repair their work or remove all the equipment and refund the money. The Phantom team had to go through the entire install + replace some defective hardware, correct all the wiring, remove the ( literally ) fried wires in the engine compartment, etc.... But 8 hours later and admittedly some expense, Howard and his team kicked @ss!!! Can't say enough how much I appreciate the work in my 2002 PROWLER. "GO PHANTOM OR GO HOME!!!" Phantom installed a RetroSound Motor 4HD unit with satellite radio and new speakers in my new to me 1971 Buick. They are a RetroSound dealer. The install turned out very clean with great sound afterwards. I had an appointment but they were able to get me in early when they had a late cancellation. They had previously done a audio update for my RV and that turned out great too. This company has been in Thousand Oaks since the 80's. I recommend them highly. read more

At the recommendation of Rick's Japanese Auto Care (see my review for them), I took my 2016 Subaru Forester to Phantom for an upgrade of the in-dash stereo. I had previously had a Pioneer double-DIN unit installed, but after six years, its flaky behavior (resetting to factory about every 45 minutes) was no longer tolerable. Howard and the other staff walked me through a number of options, and recommended either a Sony xav-ax9000 or xav-ax6000. I looked at the specs, and chose the 6000, about $200 less expensive. Got a reasonable quote for purchase & installation. I felt no "up-sell" pressure at all when I stated my choice. Star! We made an appointment for me to bring in the Forester, and the afternoon before, I got a very polite reminder call for the appointment. Star! I got there the next morning a few minutes before opening hours, and was greeted by Howard, who came out and verified that the car was as described, and that the Sony unit would fit without problems. Star! Howard and I walked through the objectives (CarPlay, exposed USB port so I could connect my own music collection, power jacks for charging, and steering wheel control configuration). No problem. Star! A few hours later, I got a phone call telling me that the car was ready. When we arrived, the car was sitting just outside the door, ready to go. Howard showed me the installation - everything precisely as desired. They had found the steering wheel adapter already present from the previous installation, and reprogrammed it for the Sony. Dropped the purchase price by $100, but due to the (anticipated) complexities of messing around in a Subaru dashboard, had to charge extra for the install. Perfectly acceptable. Star! Two days later, I noticed that one of the seat heater switches on the console was lower than it should have been. I took it back, chatted with Howard about how generally happy I was, except for the switch. He came out for a look, probed between the upholstery and the switch panel, and snapped the switch (with an audible click) back into place. No charge, perfect alignment. Star! Well, that's SIX stars. I had an audio system installed with a Memphis Amp (which is usually for boats) and two 12 inch hertz energy subwoofers. They lasted over 11 years! Never any problem. To start, I brought my new car in to have Howard and his guys take a look and let me know what my options were. I had NO idea WTF I was in for. Apparently over the last decade or so if you want to upgrade your sound system to something worth listening to you should probably be driving a Lamborghini because the prices for basic low grade speakers are pretty pricey and if you want a great system then your ultimately looking at a couple grand to just get the speakers and amp with installation done...he also told me about a DSP that might be another way to go. Anyway,I met with the owner, by the way, Howard is a great guy and very knowledgeable as well as being very good at presenting the finer details that come along with the whole "car sound system" and everything that that entails. I definitely give Phantom Electronics 5 stars when it comes to communicating to the customer and explaining everything they need to know. Howard even puts it all into a very simple to understand sketch, drawing with detailed text and highlights, lines, arrows and prices for each item. Very nice Howard, bravo.... This time though the car stereo game is what I would refer to as "A completely different beast" compared to pre-digital age. Getting old sucks So I had to let Howard know that I'd think about it and get back with him. Once I accepted reality, I went to 2 other car stereo places to get bids and make sure that I had some idea of what I was going and what it was actually going to cost me. I thought that I had actually found a place to have it done for around $1,500 and that was going to be speakers, amplifier as well as installation. " So I Thought " Well now that I've taken so much of time reading this review, I will wrap it up. Without giving the names of the other places, I will say that one was local and the other was just over the hill in the valley. The one local place said he would do it for about $1,500 and he was going to treat the car as if it were his own. I liked that. At least that's what he said at first. He said that when I came back in a couple of days the boss would be back and finalize the final bid. So, the one bid that I had on paper from the valley was $2,100. At this point I was not intending on going back to waist Howard's time because his price was so high that even though I felt comfortable with his company? I didn't think I had anything close to what it would cost to have it done at Phantom Electronics. I then went back in to this other local audio place. I had had a pretty good feeling about it because this guy had assured me that not only was he going to try and tell his boss to come close to the $1,500 but also that he was going to treat it as if it were his own car. After about 2 more weeks, the boss finally put the fine details in the bid. I was actually expecting it to be close to the1,500. When I finally went back in to see the bid and talk about it, the guy said that I was looking at around $5,000. I pretty much lost my composure and just told him that he must be out of his mind and asked him WTF happened to $1,500. He then phoned his boss and to put a really long story short they made some changes or something and brought it down to 2,000 So with this whole, "I will treat this like it was my own car" thing I said "fine, go ahead and do it" I even put all the cash up front to let him know I was serious. The car was completed in one day which was good and as far as I knew, it was done well. I had even gave the sales representative a $100 tip ahead of time to let him know that that I wanted him to make sure it was actually done well. I tried... I really wish I had just bit the bullet and paid Howard the extra money at the beginning to have Phantom Electronics just do the job, but I was trying to save a buck WTH. Hence, here is the purpose of this report and review. I did bring my car back into Phantom Electronics and had Howard have a look and listen to what I had done. I kind of told him briefly about what had happened but didn't go into detail because I wasn't going to talk poorly about his competition, In fact I told him that I was sure that they probably knew exactly what they were doing and that they were supposed to be a really good company and for other people they probably were. I did ask Howard to let me know what he thought about taking the nice Alpine sound system that the other company put in my car and add a nice DSP system to it. To finally get to the best part of this review, Phantom Electronics took my car and installed the DSP unit with an additional Amplifier and for another $1,800 made the system sound fantastic. Howard and his crew at Phantom Electronics are definitely 5 Star. They were all very professional and made me feel great about everything I had done there. The customer service is top notch. Dash Cam Installation. I selected Phantom Electronics based on Yelp reviews. The facility was up front and informed they were not familiar my Amazon purchase of a ROVE dash cam but indicated it was a straight forward dash cam installation. The end result was the front and rear cameras were installed with good wiring concealment but the front camera was not well positioned and the wiring to the fuse bank was not correct. The settings on the hardware kit were also not correct. If you purchase your dash cam at their facility, I suspect you will have a better outcome. If you purchase a dash cam on line, I would recommend having it installed elsewhere. read more

Man where do I start! Our party bus radio went out mid trip, we called them and they said they could make time for us right away. I got there and they found the problem and fixed it in like 15 minutes. They barely charged me a thing. Apparently my cigarette port iPhone charger was broken and again I'm literally at work and can't let me phone die, I asked if they sold them and he said no but they have regular usb cords for iPhones which would also work for me. One of the best experiences I've had with any shop anywhere. My needs were pretty minor in the grand scheme of things audio - remove a 10" sub from the trunk and replace two existing factory speakers inside the car. I drove him out to Thousand Oaks to pick up his car, and he couldn't stop talking about how much better Phantom was than the 3 other places he went to (he had also gave me a free brand new 10" JLAudio sub, provided I actually use it). Long story short, instead of having Phantom install the sub in my current car, I simply decided to go out and purchase a new car...and then get the sub installed. Which is exactly what I did. Went here when I was younger for a new car screen. I was not told the risks that would happen to my sound system if I put in a new screen for my vehicle in specific. As a result, paid over 2k and it made my sound system shat as a result. The screen didn't even work half the time. Went to speak to the people who placed it and they kept talking over me. The only solution they gave me was to upgrade my entire sound system, and that there was nothing they could do about the screen. so I asked for refund and to take it out. Under california law, you can request full refund if it does not perform to standards. They refused. It is sad that they would take advantage of a teenager in that way. I went there after a previous Clarion head unit and great Pioneer speakers in the 90's that was successful but this time, Memphis brand equipment was the only option after going there 4 times. It's obvious he is in good with Memphis low grade equipment and making a nice cut getting it dirt cheap and that's why he refused to install anything else. He frustrated us with saying "I might see the Pioneer rep next week ", instead of ordering the Pioneer equipment that I requested. He does well with customers like the one I saw while I was there. All that customer with the Porsche said was "When is it going to be done?" Memphis crap didn't matter to him. If you want Memphis equipment only, this is the place to go! I gave up with Phantom Electronics and finally went to the Northridge to get the components I wanted installed. Too bad Phantom, you lost out out on at $1400 sale because of your stubbornness. read more
