Classic Gyro Sandwich
Matt F.

I have tried several Mediterranean restaurants in the ILM/Wilmington area, but this place was LEGIT! I ordered the Classic Gyro w/fries & the Greek Gyro Platter. The classic gyro was one of the BEST that I have ever had! The ingredients were super fresh as you can see from the photos, and the portions were well above standards! The Greek Gyro platter came with gyro meat, Greek salad, hummus, and tzatziki sauce. I got both spicy and I highly recommend both! Service was polite and fast, and there is plenty of seating if you wish to dine in! If you are wanting Mediterranean with amazing portions & fresh ingredients then give Peño a try!

Food I had was tasty. We got the kabob platter that comes with rice and 2 sides. We opted for the Greek salad and stuffed grape leaves. Service was pretty quick. The ambiance is that of a fast food type restaurant. Place order at counter and pickup tray when ready. The only thing I have to say that is slightly negative is they charge 3.50 for a small container of Tzatiki sauce (4oz). I thought that was a little high. They should give you a small container with a platter order.

I ordered food to-go through Grubhub. The food was ready right on time specified for pick up. The owner, I am assuming, was nice enough to inform me Grubhub charges more and it would be cheaper to order directly through the restaurant or through Clover. I tried the Gyro Shawarma with spicy sauce and a Classic Gyro with cilantro sauce, both with beef and lamb. Both were good, but I personally liked the Gyro Shawarma much more. The meats had good flavor- they are different from The Greeks in that they were cut into thick slices. I prefer thinly sliced meats. The portion of meat was different between the 2 sandwiches - the Gyro Shawarma had way more meat than the Classic Gyro. Fries in the shawarma were crispy. The garlic sauce and spicy sauce in the Gyro Shawarma were very good. I definitely recommend getting the spicy sauce if you like spicy. The cilantro sauce was okay - a watery consistency, slightly tart taste. I would come back just for the Gyro Shawarma with spicy sauce.

Great food spot in Wilmington!! I had the Casado gyro bowl which came with beef & lamb, rice, black beans, plantains, avocado salad, and cilantro tahini sauce. It was so tasty and everything was so fresh!! I had half a bowl left and definitely will be saving the leftovers for later!!

Chicken Gyro Platter

The food was really good and flavorful. The food is made to order which takes a little while for it to come out to you. The staff was really nice and you could tell they were working hard to make sure the orders were correct and coming out in a timely manner. The restaurant is large in the inside and open so you don't feel overwhelmed. The menu has many options. I had the Greek Gyro Platter and my wife had the chicken gyro platter. Both platters were tasty and well seasoned. More than enough food for the both of us. I also added a side of fries. The fries were nice and hot when they were brought to the table. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Peño's Mediterranean Grill offers a delightful Gyro Salad, featuring fresh greens, succulent gyro meat(beef/lamb obviously), tangy tzatziki, and vibrant veggies. A flavorful, satisfying choice for a healthy Mediterranean meal.

The food is delicious!!!!! Wonderful Customer service!!. The lady that makes the wraps and bowls is very kind, helpful and goes beyond expectations to make a customer happy. I thought she was the owner.

I have family in Carolina Beach and they love visiting this place for lunch, so we definitely visited a couple times during my last visit. The food is decent, though I'm not sure I would be craving it on the regular. I think I'm put off by the french fries included in my chicken shawarma. Garlic sauce? Tasty. Parsley? Would totally be expected. But french fries? The menu said potatoes, but I wasn't expecting the potatoes to be just french fries... it seems like a cop out. I was expected potatoes with some kind of Mediterranean seasoning or something. The taste of everything was okay... but "crave worthy"? Meh. One of the last times I visited, my grandmother and I ordered some side options... chickpea salad, tabouleh salad, some fresh fruit. Of the salads, neither was especially memorable. Fine if you're hungry, but again, just fairly generic. The more awkward part of my last experience here was also the WAIT for the food. The service was soooooooooo slow, even though there was barely anybody there. It didn't seem like the norm, but it was definitely off-putting. TL;DR The person who described this place in their review as "the Subway of Mediterranean food" isn't far off. Hopefully, the food is fresher... but ultimately, it's still an overall generic experience - and certainly not ranked that high with regards to the Mediterranean restaurants I've tried in my life.

Chicken Gyro Platter Tomato and Avocado Salad

I really like Peno. This particular Peno has a real character that works there. I feel like I am in an authentic Greek restaurant. This location has a lot of seating but does not carry the sauces like the one on College. I ordered the chicken gyro platter with the tomato avocado salad instead of Greek salad. I literally picked up the bowl and drank the dressing. Don't even care. It was THAT good. The hummus and tzatziki are better than anywhere else, too! I loved my meal and am so pleased with every part of it!

Little ambience. Friendly staff. Great food, large portions. Fair . All translates to a great (almost) fast food value.

Checked out this new restaurant that's adjoined to the back of UpTown market. You can enter either…read morefrom outside or from inside UpTown. There is no restaurant sign so just head to the back of the market. There are two small tables inside and currently two outdoor bench tables outside. The outdoor seating area is still being worked on with the plan of adding more seating. Everything is homemade fresh daily, except the bread, cake slices and tiramisu. Baklava ran out since they had an event for BMW. There are plans for a clay oven to be installed for bread to be made on site. You can see the chicken and lamb on the spits when you walk in. I ordered the beef/lamb gyro and added fries for an upcharge of $2.08. The owner and chef were nice to let me sample their falafel. All of the food was great, you can tell the food is homemade. Looks like they forgot the tzatziki sauce on the gyro, but still tasted great with the cucumbers salad and pickled red onions. The falafel was very crispy and the seasoned fries had a delicious, thick, white garlic sauce. Definitely worthy to check out!

It is behind a convenience mart and has a small dining area, but a very large outdoor deck that is covered. Service was friendly and we got two platters and fries - it was plenty of food.
