Pet Goods Direct Superstore

Pet Goods Direct Superstore

My partner is a vet nurse, so I get to see a fair few pet stores when I'm out and about with her. I…read moresuppose you could say that I am somewhat of a pet store connoisseur. Pet Goods Direct really is a super store. The place is massive!! Needless to say there is a massive range of stock. The floor is plain concrete which seems to be a staple of pet stores these days. People tend to take their pets into the stores so that would make sense. One thing that makes my partner happy is that they don't sell cats or dogs. She is of the opinion that people should buy pets from breeders. Hey, it's an opinion, we all have them! What they DO stock are live birds, fish, rats and rabbits. Maybe other small animals if they have them in stock at the time. There are two big problems I have with this place. The first thing to mention is the pricing. Most items can be purchased cheaper elsewhere, and you don't even really need to shop around that hard to find the same item at a lower price. The other issue is the staff. If there are 3 people working when you walk in, I guarantee you every single one of them will ask you if you need help. This happens every time we walk in. Once is OK, twice is a bit irritating, three times is just plain annoying and feels pushy. I actually find it quite off putting. It seems like one of those irritating customer service policies businesses put in place that I absolutely hate. With that being said, the biggest thing I noticed about this place is the large range of cages. If you want a cage for anything you're sure to find it here. With the prices though, I'd make sure you couldn't get it elsewhere cheaper first.

I've been to this pet shop a couple of times now, the first time I thought they had some nice…read morestock, a little bit different to that of other pet shops but I can't see them lasting too long if they don't look into their pricing. WAY OVERPRICED!!! I would actually never buy anything from here because I know I can get it cheaper elsewhere. Pet shops already put a 100% mark up on their goods so it's just plain greedy to increase anymore. Pet barn and Pet stock are so much better for pricing. I was very disappointed to go in there the other day to find they have signs up in the store actually asking for breeders of cats and dogs to contact them ..... not a good policy in my book. Pet shops shouldn't sell pets full stop. I actually don't find the staff to be all that friendly either, just seem to be after the buck. For me I wouldn't bother going again, there are much better pet shops out there.

Gem Birds has been around for many years, but has only recently relocated to Paddy's Market. I…read moredon't recall much about the previous location (which was a little further down Main North Road), but I thought I'd check out the new store. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the fact that he front of the store seems very cramped with cages on either side of you. It's quite claustrophobic, but when you walk to the back it's a little more open with larger cages and consequently larger birds. The problem with the cramped front end of the store is that the cages tend to smell. I understand this is normal when selling animals so I'd hardly call it a criticism. The staff really know their stuff when it comes to birds. They are happy to discuss your situation and which bird would suit you, as well as options for raising and possibly training your new feathered friend. To assist with the training they offer a wing clipping service so your bird will stay grounded while you teach some tricks to impress your friends. Cages are available out the front of the store for all sizes of bird, as are toys to keep your little friend entertained while you're not around. Once again, staff can advise you of appropriate cage sizes and toys. Don't let the initial smell put you off. If you want a bird or advice on how to raise or train a bird, this is the place to go.

To start off, ever since I came out of the store I am itchy all over. I believe they have bird…read moremites which I somehow bought home with me! Not happy! Went here early in the morning and the place is so disgusting. The smell I understand. The floor was thick (and when I say thick, mean thick!) with bird seeds, enough for someone to slide then slip. I know birds do throw birds seeds/empty seed shells about but come on, this is an hour after opening do they not sweep or vacuum the day before or at all? There are empty cabinet cages thick with dust and cobwebs. There's layers of dust on their products, which puts me off purchasing. The only good thing about them is their customer service, the guy there was very helpful. Never going back in there again.
