Petsmart is a megastore of pet supplies from small pets, fish, birds, hamsters to cats and dogs. The store in Ventura is normally stocked well and I've never had an issue in finding a sales clerk to help me if I'm having trouble locating something. With all that said, I find the prices as high as most small based local pet stores, the only plus to Petsmart is the coupons, of course then again the coupons normally come with a catch that you need to spend $50 or above to qualify for any discount. ventura pets mart grooming is terrible and they make your dog yelp and cry. I sat out there waiting on my baby that was with the vet. The groomer is tall and thin but if you love your fur babies as much as I do. STOP TAKING THEM TO PETS MART GROOMING. This poor poodle crude out like 10 times and she forced its mouth shut by holding it tight. I am so sad for this white poodle. They are terrible and hurt your pups. Just picked up my dogs from Petsmart grooming. I am a U.S. military veteran and one of my dogs wears a harness with an American flag patch on it. When I picked the dogs up this afternoon the patch had been taken off and replaced upside down. Needless to say I was pissed off when I saw this. It's sad that politics are brought into everything these days. There was no need for the patch to come off in order to remove the harness. Or for it to be placed upside down "accidently". The harness can be removed easily by a clip underneath the dog, so any statement believing it wasn't done on purpose is invalid. Won't be coming back. read more

My dog is difficult to groom, but I've been bringing him to Petsmart grooming for over 5 years. If you don't get an experienced groomer, this is what you get there. First they tried to charge me an extra $7.00 for a handling fee. They ended up waiving the whole fee because my dog was butchered! Guess I need to find a good groomer!! read more

Went in a couple weeks ago with my gf and we adopted a little kitten. The sales associate Justin, (I believe his name was) was super helpful and even stayed a little later to assist us in the adoption paperwork. We've been going to this Petsmart for almost a year now. We go there to get toys for our dog, bird food and we even picked up a couple fish. The workers are super knowledgeable and kind. There are times that we feel like they berate us a little on how we care for our fish. Our dog is always welcome which is a great thing to be able to bring her with us. One time when we were there we actually were able to get her nails trimmed. Because she was a puppy and under six months old it was actually less expensive than if she was a dog. I went in on a mission to find something a 70lbs Lab with indestructible teeth could like without destroying in 10 minutes. The manager in that night I went, recommended these enormous bones. She also explained that if the bone was destroyed too quickly then it normally should I could bring it back. This review is solely based on my experience yesterday. On our way to take my dogs to the beach, I realized I had left my 15' lead at home. Not wanting to drive all the way back home, I yelped a nearby Petsmart and stopped in this place. I was trying to find another lead but after walking up and down the leash aisle a number of times, and seeing nothing, I grabbed a retractable 16' leash. I walked up to Ashley's register and she, after looking at the leash, asked me how much my dog weighed. I told her 60lbs which was why I chose the leash that said 110lb weight limit. She told me, in her honest opinion, being well versed in their products as an employee and a dog trainer, that the product was way under par; if my dog were to be running up and down the beach like I told her, she said the leash would likely snap. She then recommended a lead (what I had been looking for in the first place), got someone to cover her register and walked me to her recommendation. When I decided which one I wanted, she walked me back to her register and rang me up. Not only was I blown away that she was so honest about a product the store carried, but to take the time to show me exactly where it was, AND save me an additional $10 with the less expensive but better quality product, I say that is some of the best customer service I have ever experienced. Pet smart grooming was so amazing today! They had struggled with a few power outages early in the day that set them back a bit. They were slammed with clients trying to get grooming done before thanksgiving. They were so nice and helpful even though the situation must have been stressful for them. They were so good with our nervous dogs at times there were more than one employee making sure our dogs were as comfy as possible during their manicures. The staff is the best, Sierra and Megan were the best! It I could rate them higher I would! read more

Yesterday (4/23/16) my girls wanted to buy fish for their tank. So we went in to petsmart in Vta., we couldn't help to notice 2 female employees Celeste and Jazmin joking around being flirtatious with a long haired guy. The female employees were scooping fish out of the water, grabbing them with their hands and joking around. They were making jokes of how they wanted to squeeze them. I watched in disbelief as they did this to several tanks, different fish. My older daughter made a comment out loud "oh my goodness mom, look they're going to kill the fish" as the employees held a fish out of water. They overheard my daughter and they made a comment "only employees can do this haha as the guy with long hair reached in to one of the tanks. I recorded and had to say something, I informed the manager Sean and he caught one of them red handed with her hand in the tank trying to grab fish. Sean asked her what she was doing and she looked startled. They had attitude when I notified them that I had them on video. They raised their voices at me and argued with me all in the presence of their manager. I know they are just fish but that is so cruel. I called corporate because if this is how Petsmart treats their animals they need to know. I hope they review their own video and fire them both. read more

Review of the Grooming Salon. We took our dog in as soon as they opened expecting to get him back pretty early. They called us at 6 pm to say he was ready! They shut him in a crate all day until they got round to him, I am guessing as he was so quiet they forgot about him. When we got there they hadn't even cut his fur properly and hadn't touched his head. He was a cocker spaniel so you can imagine how comical he looked. I got the clippers out at home to finish his head. We told them he had separation issues so he couldn't be long. They really do not care and booking a time slot is pointless. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE place! We have since found a great grooming salon in Ventura. The Dogs only stay as long as they are being groomed AND they are cheaper than Petsmart. read more

New puppy so I went to this store location. Was pleasantly surprised how helpful and friendly they were. Found everything needed for my new addition and of course found extra goodies like toys, a bed and chews. They had the puppy food but it wasn't with the rest of the food, it was on the kitty side of the store. The girl that helped said they had expanded reason for it being over there. I am assuming expanded the brands they carry and ran out of room. Glad I asked for help would have never found it. read more

This place is terrible! This was my second time bringing in my fur baby and she immediately did not want to go in (red flag #1). They were so aggressive in handling our dog as she did not want to go in so they were almost dragging her in and receptionist rudely shooed me away saying it was my fault my dog did not want to go in(red flag #2). When they open the door you could see the groomer yanking on another dog (red flag #3). I'm new to this area and figured that this place would do, but I was wrong. I was hoping it would be like my previous dog groomer which had a big window and I was able to see how every dog was carefully handled. This place pays their staff peanuts and then they take it out on your dog. I will not be back here for anything! If you love your fur babies I wouldn't get them groomed here. This is the most convenient pet store in Ventura. The lines are sometimes a bit long, but usually it's pretty quick. I just appreciate how everything is just easy to find. Dog food on the right, cat food on the left. Vet directly in the back as is the groomers. 4 stars only because the expectations aren't as high given the competition. I can deal with the occasional wait time as it has been rare. Selection is good, customer service has been good. read more

Third time is a charm! I tried but will no longer go back to PetSmart Ventura Grooming. I've taken my 6 yr old German shepherd to Petsmart ventura before, and we had a great experience the first time. However, after a follow up routine grooming visit, this place was not only disorganized, but made us feel as if we were more trouble to them and their schedule. meanwhile the girl that checks you in for you appt moves slower than turkey, and seems loopy (or high). The other dogs behind the counter are getting excited that a new dog (my pup) is coming in therefore my dog gets excited. While keeping my pup calm the girl at the front takes her time and finally checks with the groomer behind her who is working on another dog? She finally gets the OK from her that they can take my dog to get groomed. Hence we had an appt booked 3 weeks in advance. Only after all dogs are excited she takes my pup ba and after 15 minutes calls to have my dog picked up and says that he is too excited. Oddly enough he was fine before we arrived. Don't bring your dog there even if you have an appointment, you will still be grilled and time will be wasted just for them to turn you away. read more

I would not recommend this place. The workers do not seem like they want to be there. We had an appointment and they made an excuse as to why they couldn't take him even though it was our second time back because they needed a rabies shot the first time. The third time we returned because they refused to take him in the day before, They washed him but said they couldn't cut his hair because they didn't want to stress him out?? So we paid $50 for a service we could have done ourselves. Didn't even give us the option for a refund or to pay for what we actually received. This place is a joke. Support small businesses. We went in to see their African dwarf frogs and everyone one of them were dead laying on the bottom of tanks just being picked apart by other fish . I just could not figure out why no one was taking care of tanks, it was disappointing. read more

They do not have very good customer service. We were in line as there was only one line with a LIGHT on. Then another registered opened. Instead of saying "I can help the next customer in line" about four people jumped in front of us.... then another register opened, no LIGHT again and more people got in front of us.... One, people are RUDE and don't care about others but the store has control of the lines.... Turn the LIGHT on if your register is open and ask for the next customer in line to come up. read more

Came in for my appointment at 9 only to find out that they had cancelled my appointment. No phone call. No notice. They just cancelled. They said they were too busy. My dog is a rescue dog and he is very nervous when he visits any pet I or PetSmart but when Dodger was all done and cleaned up he was so excited to see me and have me pick him up!Dodger has gotten both of his haircuts here before and they always are the friendliest with dogs. They truly know what a teddy bear hair cut looks like and Dodger trusts them too. Come visit this location and get your dogs hair cut and nails trimmed. I love this store they always have everything I need and got a new bed for my Monkey Dog Ted. Also treats for my parrot. They have a good selection of cat food, priced right and less expensive than the Camarillo Petsmart. Don't get that one. read more

This establishment has more toys for my fur babies and since I now have a big boy that happily annihilates anything stuffed and shaped like a mouse I can see a definite need for a stockpile. An added plus is the new batch of employees seem to know a bit more about the products and services sold. It appears the Petsmart model uses employees who are not invested in their jobs. Customer service is superficial and rarely goes beyond a shallow and forced "Hello" when you enter the store. Typically only one person is at the front register and if a line develops you are fortunate if that person calls for help. I encountered a customer service problem last week where they failed to return a coupon to me. Nothing on the coupon stated it was for one use and because the store returned the coupon to me to use again after my last visit it was reasonable to believe it was to be used again until the expiration date. Nope. I had three employees "in my face" and the shift manager actually escalate the problem. After some arguing he went to the back room to call the district manager and finally returned with other coupons as a replacement. Did he really need to waste our time. Could he not have done this on his own before escalating the problem? Customer service has always been this store's sore point and it's only underscored here. To be fair the district manager did call me to investigate and apologized, but poor customer service is a pattern here, which is why I decided to write the review. Bottom line: it's only worth visiting this store if you have some type of discount in hand and if you have no or minimal interest in interacting with their employees. Their prices are not particularly attractive and all things being equal I'd rather support The Wharf for my pet needs. So you may wonder why I give them 2 stars, it's because they support pet adoption. read more

If you love your dog you will not take them in to the grooming department at Petsmart in Ventura, Ca. I took my dog in for grooming I have done so for the past two years . In those two years they have been through at least 4 managers and different groomers every few months, but beside a bad hair cut, I had no problems until this last time. Mitzi went in healthy, she came out limping and needing to take medication for a week . Mitzi was in so much pain the vet gave her a pain shot before she could fully examine her. I didn't realize there was a problem until I was out of the store (after grooming the groomer handed her to me (they have never done this before in fact store manager said it was against policy, they are told to walk them out to make sure there is no problem). After 30 min. of arguing they agreed to pay Banfield (vet in their store) to examine her. It was a cyst caused by the razor they use. Petsmart went back on their agreement to cover the vet bill, now Banfield is charging me for their services, not to mention the grooming I paid for that day. There are better options than Petsmart in Ventura. read more

That fact that you can be hired there with no background of dogs and start grooming right away is ridiculous. These girls have no experience, they claim my dogs "nip" them which at our other groomer place, my dogs are angels. Which only means that PetSmart must be doing something to my dog that makes him want to nip them. We get there and they then ask for our rabies proof. Not something we randomly carry with us - left that at home and then wouldn't cut his nails. Awful. Took my year old terrier in to a woman named Gwen and when I got her back at 9pm she was chopped up clipper burned and not bathed!! She claimed my pup was being aggressive and that was the reason why she was half shaved in different directions and burned!! Unacceptable my dog was there for 3 hours and no one could call! Upon picking her up she was terrified and hadn't even been bathed!! I would never recommend anyone get their pet groomed here I truly question these groomers education. read more
