And it was amazing. He has seen her 2 times, in between he ended up seeing someone else and at drop off I left crying bec they individuals in there were just rude and talk down to us and needed to go home and try again with their day (just be a little kind people) but we decided to give it another try first thing in the morning with Kylah mainly so I didn't have to see the other people at drop off, and it was great. Don't do curbside. Ordered for curbside pick up because as someone with a baby in the car sometimes it's easier than going inside when you already know what you need and don't have extra hands to load everything up or baby is sleeping, I should have just waited until I could physically go in by myself. Writing about Petsmart Vta near Barnes & Noble.... Today is my big brother's birthday and I wanted to get him something fun. He is a person with Down Syndrome and has never had a fish before. I thought ok this will be a new adventure, he is responsible enough to take care of it, and we live together so I can help him with what ever he will need. He will really enjoy this gift. I walk in and as I am checking out the fish the sales associate is finishing up the the woman & child in front of me. They buy a few gold fish and head to the register to pay. The employee can't be more than 20yrs old and is asking how can he help? I am telling him with such joy, It's my brother's birthday and I would like to buy him a fish! I pick a small black one that looked so cute. He tells me ok great these guys require a 20 gallon tank. What? I ask to see what that looks like and it's too big to fit in my brother's room or even to find space in the living room. He then suggests to me a beta fish. I go and look and they were just too fancy for our taste. An as I'm looking I see that two of them are dead. So then I thought how about a gold fish! I grab some pebbles, fish food, and a large bowl along with a box looking container that you get when you win them at the fair. No. He tells me thats too small and gold fish need a 20 gallon tank too. I said for 1 fish? Because at this point I'm shocked!! A woman comes out she can't be more than 24-25 yrs old tells me the same speal and grabs the name with the tag about the first fish to "show me" the requirements I guess, along with saying the fish are pets too. Insinuating im not going to take care of them or im not responsible enough. Side Note: I've worked in the veterinarian business for 20 yrs and i have purposely not owned a pet because Ive also worked ER. If i DID decide to take on a pet before I ever would i would make sure i would have at least $10,000 in the bank AND purchase pet insurance because Ive seen first hand what can happen. I was taken a back by what i was told and even can understand how they are advocates for the fish, hell i even understand them and thier salesmanship im not mad at that, but I'm curious about how we live in a day an age where I can't just buy one fish with out having felt a bit degraded or judged? If I'm being honest all i wanted was to provide an opportunity of responsibly to a person with special needs. My brother is a high functioning person with Downs. He can take care of himself. He participates in the ARC program (a place where he is amongst his peers) he can cook with minimal supervision and participated in the Special Olympics when he was younger, but he can't own a fish? I let the other woman know something to the effect of I wanted to get something fun for my brother's birthday. Looked at what was suggested to me, which by the way there are 2 dead beta fishes so I think you should check on that before you suggest someone to look in that section, but it's fine I'll get something else. And wouldn't you know it she wanted to stick it to me one last time and said oh well, they are known to sleep. Now granted there were one or two closer to the bottom of their cup size space, so that may very well be true, but aren't they dead when they're floating upside-down close to the top? I said no thank you and walked away. Actually I walked to Barnes and Nobles and bought my brother Indiana Jones Lego set & a Star Wars book. I had the worst experience here. There is an employee there, I seen his name tag and his name is ORLANDO a guy with long hair and glasses he's just absolutely the worst employee ever!!!!! He makes this place look bad, if he was my employee I would reconsider keeping him. I work 2 jobs & one of them is working with adults with special needs and my client and I went in there to look at the cats and just to get him out of the house and so he can socialize and not be depressed at home. I walk in with my client with a hamper and a fireproof envelope, we were walking and I do not have a car so I brought in my folded hamper and the employee saw me walk in and I got some dog food for my Frenchie and once I go to checkout the employee was so rude and was telling me about charging me for my hamper I walked in with so I told him that I walked in with it and it's ripped too and he can pull up cameras to see. He did not apologize to me and embarrassed me in-front of all the customers waiting in line. Not even an I'm sorry or nothing. They have good product and knowledgeable reptile staff. We got enclosure for bearded dragon that included a lot of good items. Also bought our chameleon there and he is magnificent green. They have crickets and worms and calcium +D which I didn't know we needed. The most important thing we found helpful is the 3 in 1 light for our bearded dragon turtle and chameleon. So basically you get UVB+UVA+heat in one bulb. That's the best thing ever. read more

They skim small amounts of money, in this instance $3.77, from you with their Point of Sale scanning system on their 'Buy One, Get One Half Off' promotions. Got two identical items for $22.99 each, BOGO1/2Off, $22.99 x 1.5 = $34.485 rounded up to $34.49 Got two more identical, but different from the above item, items, BYGO1/2Off for $7.99 each, $7.99 x 1.5= $11.985 rounded up to $11.99 $34.49 + $11.99 = Subtotal $46.48 Total w/sales tax, should have been = $50.08 Pet Smart, with their bizarre method of charging for this deal, and even more bizarre and belligerent attempt at explaining themselves regarding accusations of over-charging, charged me $53.84 Now, when I called to get an explanation of how they charge for this type of promotion, the young woman who answered the phone and gave me, arguably, the most incompetent and aggressively evasive explanation I've ever heard, had nothing but defensive, negative, combative attitude on the other end of the line. She was looking at the same exact receipt that I was and still failed to have anything that resembled a logical explanation for Pet Smart's method of charging these items. In the few minutes in which we spoke, she gave me, no joke, at least ten different excuses why the receipt was correct, even stating right off the bat that I didn't add the sales tax, when I hadn't even gotten an answer about the subtotal from her yet, and all her lame excuses pointed the finger at me, the 'dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks' and 'just born yesterday' customer, of course. She claimed that I was only charged for (3) items, so I really actually got undercharged, but she couldn't, or wouldn't, explain the math. When asked about the particulars of the BOGO1/2Off deal, as the receipt reflects, I was met with silence each time, followed by extremely fast talking in circles and nonsensical gibberish. When I asked for the manager, i know, a Karen move on my part, but this employee was as clueless and obstinate as they get, she informed me that she IS the manager! God help this store and anyone who patronizes it if that's true! After she denied passing the phone to somebody, presumably a real manager, who could explain this without becoming an emotional wreck, I gave up on her and simply stated that I'll never buy anything from this store ever again and will take my business elsewhere instead. To which she said, verbatim, "I don't give a fuck!" Yes, I know you don't. I knew this within the first 15 seconds of talking to you, miss. I weep for this generation, if this is the condition of a random customer service interaction nowadays with the Gen Z population! Just pathetic The Gen Zer 'manager' at this Pet Smart is an arrogant, incompetent, fast-talking, obstinate, poor excuse for a 'manager'. She can't, or flat out refuses to, do basic math to defend her position, speaks using foul language to long-time, cash paying customers over the phone and, apparently, her motto is 'The Customer Is Always Wrong'. I'm talking specifically about the training classes. Trainer gave us handouts which they gave the impression that it will be a hands on approach which it is but only a couples of minutes. You will be sitting listening to the trainer while the dogs do nothing. Trainer only points out what I'm doing wrong not the rest of the group which the other two dogs are hyper. Doesn't explain activities fully which confuses everyone in the group. Disappointed with training will not go back for intermediate training. read more

I took my doodle into the Ventura Petsmart for a routine bath and brush. They explained there was minor matting underneath the ears. They explained that they would only remove the necessary matted areas underneath the ears, and they completely shaved both ears entirely. He looks ridiculous. I spoke to the very rude manager named Ruby, and she basically threw me under the bus and and took the word of her groomer over my version. So the groomer basically lied to the very rude manager, Ruby, who would not offer an apology or any compensation for this terrible incident . Nor would she give me the number of corporate headquarters when I asked her for it . Ruby said if I needed it, I can look it up. I asked her nicely one more time If I could please have the number to corporate. She flat out refused and again told me to just look it up. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional management skills! So it basically went from one bad experience with the groomer butchering my dogs ears, to the very rude manager being disrespectful to me. 3.5-4 stars I'd have to say that for being a mega store for all animal needs, Petsmart- the store itself has always delivered when it came to having the following items in stock: dog food, dog clothing, dog bedding, etc. I use the Dog Grooming services quite frequently for my puppy son, Mack Mobbin. Every time we come in the dog groomer gals are super nice and seem to really take care of my boy. He is finished within the estimated time promised and they call me 15 minutes before he is done, so that it's timed perfectly from when I arrive to him being finished. The customer service folks here are pretty helpful and actually take the time to answer your questions. I like how all the workers seem to be dog-lovers too. read more

I stopped in here to check out their reptile and insect supplies and was pleased to find a really nice hide - just what I was looking for for my new pet tarantula. This pet store sells live pets including small mammals, birds and reptiles. Also fresh water fish. Their fish looked good on my visit, I didn't see any signs of ich and saw only one fish that looked dead. Actually I did see it move but it was almost a goner, floating upside down at the top of the tank. This store maintains a good appearance though and takes out sick/dead fish quickly, as far as I can tell. I don't like pet stores that have birds living at ground-level - it's not natural for the birds and stresses them out. Otherwise their avian pets looked well cared for and healthy. PetSmart does not sell feeder rodents. They do sell feeder insects though. They have a large selection of dog and cat food brands/flavors and lots of toys. Their bird and small animal accessories selection is good too, including ferret stuff. read more

I made an appointment to have my dog groomed . I offered to take my dog in already bathed. I was informed that the Dog grooming manager would not allow that . That the staff would have to bathe my pet . I stated that my dog was older and that the velocity dryer would probably frighten or stress him out. The staff member informed me that they had 2 options available to towel dry or another dryer method that wasn't as loud or intense but would take longer to dry .I said that would be fine and made my appointment. On arriving to my appointment I informed the dog grooming attendant that I had chosen the second method of drying as to not use the velocity drying method which is similar using a car wash vacuum in that it is as loud and blows air out instead of sucking air in.The receptionist informed me that the dog grooming manager had discussed this with her and the groomer who made the appointment as well . And only the velocity dryer would be used to dry my dog. I said thank you for wasting my time since I had made it quite clear that I didn't want the velocity dryer used on my pet. It seems that 3 people could discuss the use of the velocity dryer on my dod including the dog grooming manager. Whose decision was to use the velocity dryer yet the manager could not have anyone in the dog grooming department call me and inform me that they would not honor the other 2 drying options which were suggested by the dog grooming department. It must better customer service to just let customers come to the store to give the customer the bad news. Extremely unprofessional Dog grooming manager in my view. read more

Yesterday I went in to purchase 2 20cent fish and was denied by the manager (Ruby). She demanded i purchase or show her proof that I have a 10 gallon tank for them. I asked if she asked the same of all other clients purchasing fish because there was a white couple there at the same time and never once asked them for proof. I know PetSmart is known for throwing their live fish away if they do not sell so I don't understand why we were denied when we would have given them a better situation than what they had. read more

This was my second and last visit to Petsmart grooming. After the first visit, I swore "never again" but the lead groomer persuaded me to give them another try. So, my baby's ears are 2 different lengths, the hair on the side of her face is 7 different lengths, and cut in every direction. Her nose wasn't clipped properly so it looks like a weed patch in a perfect lawn. She put the bow on the back of Mitzi head. What? Anyway, it's ridiculous to pay $81 plus tip for my baby . There are cheaper grooming places with much better reviews. I'm done with Petsmart. read more

Followed closely by the other general employees. They treat my dog and I with the utmost respect and courtesy. I wish I could say the same for the management, especially Alex. What an inconsiderate, but thank you for watching me to make sure I made it out of the store safely! Then to be lied to about what is posted where as a store policy. Get your facts straight! There are numerous ways to approach every situation. The way in which this was approached, was flat wrong. I have not leashed my dog in months, anywhere, not even Whole Foods, and for appropriate reasons from hard lessons learned. I happen to have one of the very few and legitimate service dogs, you know, one of the ones that are very expensive and actually trained - well. When the first person to say something to me about it here, is someone who has helped me at a register before, with my dog present, and not say anything then, why now? I have been into your location dozens of times. I drive from Oxnard, right near the Oxnard PetSmart, because of your groomers. I am woman enough to admit I became a "KAREN" Friday afternoon. Some things are hard when you find out your pet has stage 2 kidney disease and you have run to several places to get a prescripton filled in order to make her feel better. I shall give the Reader's Digest version. BANFIELD Pet Hospital (you can see the name on the outside of the building just below on the right-hand side of the "PetSmart" name advertised. Right-hand side.) Called, and got a young girl on the phone who told me to come on in and they would be able to authenticate a prescription for HILL's K-D. Great! I went the very next day and was told by the manager that Banfield Hospital has been closed for 6 to 7 months, and proceeded to blame the mis-information on The Cat Doctor who wrote the prescription in the first place. He then sent me to BANFIELD/ANACAPA on Ralston who not only did not give a merry-go-round explanation, they fulfilled the prescription without having to actually interupt a veterinarian to do so. Returned to PetSmart; paid for the product. Received an apology from the cashier who had nothing to do with it, and I told her to never apologize for other people's screw-ups, and also to stay in school. Meanwhile, mentioned outloud, to take that stupid Banfield Pet Hospital sign down since it has been 6 to 7 months now. "False advertising!". Exercised my Freedom of Speech. read more

My parents have a rescue dog that has a fear of getting his nails clipped. We took him to 3 other places and they refused to clip his nails because of his tendency to bite. I scheduled an appt with his vet (the soonest date was 2 weeks from now) because we felt the only way to trim them was to have him sedated. Because of how long his nails were (and the fact that he is overweight), I randomly decided to call PetSmart for a 5th opinion. I figured it was worth a shot. They were super friendly over the phone. I explained the situation and and said they would definitely try. (We were also able to bring him in the very next day!). We took our dog in over the weekend and we couldn't believe what we witnessed. Cathy was able to trim his nails with NO PROBLEM. He was calm throughout the entire process. I literally cried tears of joy afterwards. She was absolutely fantastic and made him feel so comfortable. Thank you Cathy! read more

Stop leaving reptiles and other small animals in the tiniest of display enclosures to save on space and money, and stop selling inhumane cages for hamsters and other rodents. A plastic tiny cage is a rip off and way too small for them. The smaller the animal is does not mean they only require the space of a fly. read more

Do you know what a Saucy Seafood Bake is? If you do you might have cats like I do. (It is a flavor of cat food.) I spend a whole lot of time at Petsmart. Just ask my kitties. I used to do most of my pet shopping at places like Walmart and Target but I always seemed to be disappointed by their selection. They always had an isle or two but I wanted row after row after row of stuff to buy for my cats! I want 8 different kinds of litter boxes! I want 15 different kinds of kitty litter! I want two full rows of kitty food! Seriously I love having a huge selection for my cats. I love spending money on them. (Can you tell I have no kids yet?) The prices here are surprisingly competitive. The Friskies food we spend 47 cents for at Walmart is on sale for 50 cents at Petsmart and they have a much bigger selection to choose from. I do not mind spending 3 cents extra a can to have 8 or 12 different flavors to choose from. I have had really good luck at this location when it comes to customer service. Yesterday when I was here I was greeted by a cashier as soon as I entered the building and the same employee took care of my purchase in a professional manner when I was leaving. I guess what I like most about this and most Petsmart is the fact that most of the people working here are long time pet owners so they completely understand your issues or any questions you may have. Most of the time they answer your questions with personal experiences instead of some set answer. Between this and the Oxnard store I really have no preference. It all depends on which store I am closest to at time...they both seem to keep me happy. And that keeps my kitties happy. :0) read more

Although everyone was friendly and helpful I have to say that if it wasn't for Ada, the volunteer, I may not have adopted the kitten that we did. The one staff person with whom we first inquired stated that unless we were planning to adopt a feline, for certain that day, then we would not be able to touch the cats. We were told that it may produce too much stress for the cats. Ada, on the other hand, was more relaxed about it and said that she believes that the cats would actually love the interaction. She said that in fact that is what she does during her time there is handle and love the cats. She just made sure that we washed our hands each time. We initially came in inquiring about hamsters, guinea pigs and chinchillas but after making contact with Zippy we knew that he was the one. Even after deciding in our minds that we would adopt him she told us, "....you don't have to make a decision right here, right now. Go home, think about it and make sure...." That felt so unpressured and helped solidify our decision. If it wasn't for her allowing us to make contact we would've never have even known that Zippy existed as he was in the back cages and couldn't easily be seen from the front windows. Consequently we would've never been together as a family. Remember I wasn't even sure that we wanted a cat. It could've been another animal. So be less stringent when it comes to looking for an adopted pet. Otherwise you may be missing out on many more connections. To top it off to find out after we adopted Zippy that he was found roaming the streets and is now part of our family makes the story better for all of us. read more

This is my go to pet store. We have a menagerie of animals in my house so getting all in one store is a plus. The employees are super nice and friendly. I always find help right away. Lines move fast and love getting a treat for my dogs at the register. How awesome is that your pets can accompany you while you shop? I like it that I can just have my receipt emailed instead of handing me paper that goes straight into my purse causing more of a mess. They are very informative about pets- usually. The groomer is tall and thin but if you love your fur babies as much as I do. STOP TAKING THEM TO PETS MART GROOMING.
