Justine did a wonderful job with our golden doodle Nola! It's always a bit nerve racking to try a new place, but they listened closely to what we asked for and executed exactly as asked. We also appreciated that our pup was tended to without having to wait for a hour or two for her appt to start. Also, as I imagine most dogs do, Nola can get nervous going to the groomers. Until recently, Sebastian has never visited a vet who hasn't suggested or mandated sedatives (we have just found a glorious exception in the vet department, but that is a different review). Through it all, monthly grooming at Bark Avenue by Veronica has been the exception to that rule since 2020. Rayanna has been grooming him with calm authority and kindness that just works. He goes swimming daily, so hard to get a perfect 'after' blow-dried picture. This one is a week after grooming and shows trimmed toes and air-dried fur. My favorite things about Bark Avenue by Veronica are: Smiles, giggles, and a joyful environment. My favorite things about Rayanna (Sebastian's groomer) 1) efficient calm, which translates to my boy 2) she does him beginning to end without time in crates and keeps him in her working area until pickup 3) texts about 15 minutes before he is done so and schedules next appt via text without me having to remember. Oh, and the actual Grooming is great too, but it is the easy breezy calm place for Sebastian and I, that I love. read more

I know a lot of these reviews are old. Im sure they used to know what they were doing... however, my recent experience was a nightmare! I took my 2 year old golden doodle to get groomed. After Picking him up he was in immediate pain, I took him to the vet hospital and they reported he had suffered severe razor burn. He was burned so badly the vet had to sedate him. The vet even wrote in her notes "due to razor burn". Our dog Hank couldn't walk, or sleep comfortably . He had to wear a cone for 2 weeks. I let the owner Veronica Rooks of Bark Avenue know what happened and she acknowledged the mistake and she agreed to pay the bill. However, 3 months later I have received nothing but a text from the owner Veronica Rooks saying "call my lawyer". I gave her plenty of time to right the wrong as I know she didn't mean to harm my dog. I'm so disappointed how she reacted and all I asked was for my dogs medical bills to be paid. Not a good way for a small business in a small town to react. read more

So happy to have finally found a great groomer. I have a 3 year old golden retriever who is ok with baths but hates the hair dryer. I've taken him to another groomer multiple times in the area and after each visit which was usually 4 hours, he was still wet when I picked him up and was crying. He looked messy like he wasn't even brushed and it was just a nightmare. I gave them a few chances before I decided we desperately needed to find somewhere new. Bark avenue was able to bathe him, trim him and dry him all in an hour and he looks beautiful! He smells so good, is so soft and his cut is perfect and even all around. Who would imagine I'd be so happy and grateful to write a review for a groomer 40 minutes away?!?! After trying and failing for years to find a nearby groomer that could accommodate us and I was happy with I decided to widen my search and include Ventura- I'm so happy I did! I was drawn to Bark by Veronica through their website and commitment to creating a comfortable environment for pups with special needs. I've never been comfortable with groomers that take 4-6 hours and crate dogs, it seems to be very stressful for my pup and is usually a day we dread. This experience was wonderful. She LOVED this grooming appointment. loved that she was seen at her appointment time and was done, shampooed, cut, shaped, dried, nails cut (and filed!) in an hour. She loves being carried and that's exactly how she was when I picked her up. My experience, from what I saw with other dogs being groomed, is the standard for this wonderful pet spa. Excellent experience today with Cathy at Bark Avenue. My 13 year old labradoodle was matted and looking pretty bad due to the warm humid weather. I told her to do whatever was needed to clean him up. She took her time discussing his needs before the groom. I expected him to look shaved bald and ugly. Totally the opposite. She was able to give my dog a fabulous groom in less than 1.5 hours. He looks so handsome! No nicks, no shaved bald spots, etc. He has the perfect labradoodle cut. She cleaned ears, clipped nails, and trimmed him up perfectly! He looks 5 years younger! I'm very happy with their customer service, communication (text is great) and grooming caliber. We found our new groomer. read more

Justine groomed both my cocker spaniels beautifully and treated them with such care. One is older and can't stand as long as the younger one who can be challenging when someone tries to groom her paws. She handled them both wonderfully giving the older one breaks to rest, and had no problem trimming the nails and grooming the younger one's paws. They look gorgeous, with a perfect cocker "puppy cut" (short skirt and legs + cocker ears and crown) and they smell so good, like fresh soap! I will definitely be returning. I was taking my dog to Veronica for almost five years. Each and every time, I asked Veronica to assure me that she would be doing the grooming. She said yes each time. Come to find out that after some period of time, she was passing my dog to another groomer in her shop without my knowledge or permission. I had suspicions for a while as my dog's grooming was inconsistent and unacceptable. The final straw was when my dog's grooming was so awful, done by a groomer who stated that she grooms my dog "regularly". Not Veronica...even though assured every time that she will be doing the complete grooming (she has/had someone doing the shampooing and drying). Her nails were not trimmed, the fur around her eyes was trimmed in a horrible manner that it was still in her eyes and the fur in and around her mouth was not done and, the worst was when I brought her home, she would not let me go anywhere near her face or paws (so I could trim around her eyes and mouth). Not sure what kind of treatment my dog was put through, but it was enough for her to frightened of my attempt to touch her! Veronica did reimburse me and offered a free cut, but in the same breath, wrote that I should, in essence, take my dog to a different groomer. Veronica would not return calls or texts. She then referred me to her attorney after I mentioned writing a review. I have since found an amazing groomer who does a great job, far better than Veronica and/or her staff ever did. All cuts have been consistent and thorough and she is treated with love and gentleness, and she loves going there. I recommend that you ask who will be doing your dog's full grooming and what that persons credentials are (CA does not require groomers to be licensed). There is more, but this should be enough for the reader to understand what a five year customer experienced. read more

Veronica has been our oldest's groomer first years. We have a special needs kitty named Miley who's fur gets to long and she stops self grooming. But Veronica is the best there is! Our kitty doesn't let anyone else touch her, except of course Veronica because she is absolutely magical with cats. Simply put, Veronica is gifted when it comes to animals. Veronica is AMAZING!!! I have a 1 yr. terri-poo who is anxious about going to the vet, groomers and when I leave home... (Poodle = Anxiety Separation to the MAX!). Veronica treats my puppy like a pet, a beloved furbaby. I have taken my dog to PS, and a few other places locally and in L.A. and no one has had the attentiveness and patience to my dog like Veronica has. I love the atmosphere, feel and compassionate nature that Veronica and her team provides. The dogs are very well treated, taken care of and tended to. We've been going to Bark Avenue for several years. Veronica somehow always finds a place for us and is so patient and loving! Our Bella is afraid of most folks, but gets very excited when she walks in the door of this establishment! She plays with the other dogs, something she also does not do at home -and gets ecstatic when Veronica gives her special treats Quite recently I took Bella down for a quick bath. I saw a previous review and it made me furious. It is clear that some people shouldn't own certain breeds. The picture provided said razor burn was left on thier dog. From what I saw the dog probably had some serious mats and were shaved to relieve the dog. That particular breed if left unattended can serious get some matted fur. One of the groomers at this salon has worked on my dog many times and is amazing. He has very sensitive skin and she has been honest when I come in. She has educated me on what cut and product is best for him. I have watched as she groomed him from afar and he gives her kisses (which made me jealous). I have always been happy with how he comes out looking like a new pup. Anyone reading these reviews please ignore the clear Karen looking to make a buck off a small business for thier lack of care for thier pet. Highly recommend this groomer read more

Customers beware of Bark Avenue.. Although in the past we have had decent experiences with Bark Avenue.. BEWARE.. they are hiring inexperienced groomers and as a result we recently had a nightmare experience. We brought our 2 year old dog in for grooming and immediately upon picking him up, we could tell something was wrong. Within an hour our eternally friendly, happy dog was in so much pain he could neither move nor sleep for several days. His entire groin and stomach area was so badly burned by the groomer's razor that he had to be sedated at the vet so the area could be cleaned and treated. The vet told us they don't even shave the dogs this short when they operate on them. We are not litigious or angry people so we contacted the owner, Veronica and she immediately acknowledged her groomer'a mistakes and assured us she would pay for the vet bills. After several promises around "just needing a bit more time to pay us back", we are almost 2 months post the horrible experience and she has not reimbursed us for the vet bills and will not reply to our follow up communications. Shame on Bark Avenue and Veronica , the owner for not doing the right thing to make a bad situation better. We love to support local businesses in Ventura but WILL NEVER come back to Bark Avenue and will tell all of our pet owner friends to stay away. read more

I have a 1 year old Schitzu Poodle mix named Raider. I was so excited to take my baby to see Veronica after reading the reviews and reading her story on her website... But, what happened was completely different from what I expected. When I got there I told her that I wanted the "puppy cut" and his hair left pretty long so it would bounce when he runs. She held him and felt around on his body and told me he had pretty large mats behind his ears and she would probably need to shave them. I agreed and also told her I was aware he had some on his bottom and his underarms. I expected her to cut the few on his bottom out (they were small) BUT When I went to pick him up I LITERALLY didn't think it was my dog. She practically SHAVED his body. I don't think it would even move if the wind was BLOWING, much less bounce when he runs!! I was SO upset that I waited a few days to call her and explain how disappointed I was. She told me that he had so many mats in his hair that there was nothing she could do... Which I find kind of odd since I brush him almost every day. My biggest issue is that she didn't call me beforehand to even give me a chance to say forget it and let me pick him up... Nor did she even offer to make it right next time... She charged me $55 for something that I didn't even want... And I could have done myself. All of his beautiful curls are gone! :( So upset!!! read more
