I used to shop Petco, until I discovered that their prices are higher than Petsmart on everything. Since then, I only shop here. The store is OK, staff knowledge varies. They were able to give me some good recommendations on how to stop my barking dog. Some staff members are only knowledgeable enough to tell you where a product is. If you shop just before closing, they have a tendency to close all but one of the registers so expect a longer than normal checkout line within 15 minutes of closing. The cashiers though are friendly and they always have treats ready for my dog under the counter. The grooming services are the best here. They are a great value compared to any other grooming shop I tried. For $20, my dog can get a bath and brush which is great. read more

This pet smart is usually gross. You can never find a worker to help you out, or they themselves don't even know what they are talking about. The worst is this male sales employee that is always on the floor. His breath is just FOUL. I feel so rude saying such a thing, but it makes me never want to talk to him. I always have to hold my breath and quickly reply. I always watch other customers have the look of disgust on their face. Weird to watch, yet pretty entertaining. Nothing really changes, and the atmosphere is dry. It's like going to a comedy club with a comedian who has a strong sense of dry humor... boring and a waste of time. read more

Betta fish owners beware I purchased a pagoda style house for my betta he became trapped in a small slit in the leg of pagoda house and died (I posted a picture warning its heartbreaking) I only had the house for a week. I was vey devastated. Went to store to let them know about design flaw spoke to manager (Katrina) She asked me if I had a receipt. SERIOUSLY??? My betta is dead I think that's a receipt enough. Blown away by lack of compassion. I've had my betta since Christmas I really enjoyed my betta Mr. Miyagi . Now he's gone because of a design flaw. THIS REVIEW IS SOLELY FOR GROOMING We love Sophia. I refuse to let anyone else groom my 4 year old Pomeranian. We always get the top dog package ($58) which is the package that has everything included such as teeth brushing, nail trimming, special shampoo and such. I may or may not be spoiling my dog, but every time my dog comes back from Sophia's care, she is looking her cutest and smells her best. A month or so ago, Sophia was busy teaching the doggy training camp-thing so she wasn't able to groom. We were stuck with someone else and my dog came back looking less than her best. I get my dog groomed every 6 weeks or so and Sophia is the only person I trust! Definitely give her a try if it's your first time. read more

I think the experince here can border 5-stars or be a push for 3 depending on who you get to help you. We needed to fill the 10-gallon tank Santa brought for my daughter and since we were in the area, stopped by. After getting someone paged over to the fish department, they helped us pick out a few fish, passed along some advice and we were on our way. Nothing too difficult so 4 stars. Came back a few days later to add to the tank and were met immediately. They let us know to either get all male fish or all female as to avoid a breeding problem. Found the best looking ones in the tank, let us know about their refund policy if one dies in the next two weeks and offered suggestions for the next fish to get. Any easy 5 stars here. One died over night so hoping that she didn't notice, flew over right when they opened to get a replacement. I was helped after a few minutes and when requesting a male, was given a blank stare and a reply of "what does a male look like?". I passed along what her associate told me and she proceeded to try to find one. After the lid was lifted, this fish did their best attempt at an escape and flew past her, landing on the bottom step of the ladder. Sure enough, she picked it up and put it in the bag as my fish. Really, a jumper is what I'm being given? Also wasn't familiar with the refund policy so just paid my $2.49 and was on my way. A post Christmas 3-stars here. I can't really comment too much on the other parts of this store but for the fish, it sure beats WalMart across the street!! read more

Only giving two stars to the employees complete lack of knowledge when it comes to the animals. I guess it's expected to a level since they are pretty much hiring high school kids and idiots. Although I would think a company that specializes in pets would provide training to their employees so they do not sound stupid and give advice that could end up killing a animal. read more

I just got back from taking my 2 Newfoundland Pyrenees mix to PetSmart in Stevenson Ranch, CA. One of my girls was obviously cut on both of her front two elbows with quite a bit of blood coming out. the other times that we have taken the two girls there hasn't been any issues however there is new stuff there and allegedly the store manager Amy is the one who groomed dodger the one who got cut on both elbows. odd thing is when I took them in they said it could take up to 3 hours when I called it 3 hours they said oh no we need another hour I waited another hour I called and they said oh we need 15 more minutes when I got there I told him that I was disappointed that my dogs have spent the majority of the time in a kennel to which they argued back at me and then to get home and have one of my girls bleeding from both of her elbows unacceptable I will never go there again. Apparently you have to pick a star so by default I'm giving him one star but believe me no stars for Amy and PetSmart it's a shame because I've been taking my dogs there for 2 years. I told her that his allergies have been acting up and that he's been so itchy due to it. She recommended an oatmeal shampoo for him that helped 100%! He looks so spiffy now! The following review is for PetSmart's GROOMING services - We've tried a few different places for grooming in the SCV (like PETCO) but we finally settled on PetSmart. Are they close? No. They're in Stevenson Ranch, 15-20 minutes away. Are they expensive? Hell yeah. When you start tacking on every single "spa service", like my wife does, it gets expensive. (Maybe it's flawed thinking but should my dog's hair cuts cost more than mine?) Why then? PETSMART CONSISTENTLY DOES THE BEST PET GROOMING JOB IN THE SCV. So as long as our dog comes out looking, feeling and smelling as good as he does, we'll be going to PetSmart. read more

Service is great here. Prices are reasonable, and they have EVERYTHING for my baby. I recently took my dachshund to the groomer to clip his nails, and they did an awesome job. My dog HATES getting his nails clipped and they did very well with him, keeping him calm and getting the job done. $8.00 total for clipped nails and GREAT service. I don't like giving bad reviews and I am the type who will see the positive more than the negative, but I was incredibly disappointed and disturbed by the lack of concern the GROOMING salon staff displayed when I pointed out to them that my dog's foot was bleeding because the person that clipped his toenails cut too close. The kid's name was Cody. First of all, Cody did not come back out to acknowledge what he had done. (He was in the back?) Instead, we were "dealt" with by a girl named Mandy who told us:"sometimes when you cut the nail too close you could cut the vein." I responded to the effect that: "the reason we brought him here so that we would avoid that if we did it ourselves." (Aren' t they supposed to be experts at this - that's why we pay them, right?) No response - SILENCE. There were about 5 groomers in that place and no one responded to my comment. Not even Mandy. Oh - and the salon manager came out. After she was notified by another groomer (Mona?) of what happened, guess what she did? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Her name- Veronica. She did not look at us or acknowledge our presence. How absolutely disappointing and HOW RUDE. And she's the manager, mind you. I am so upset at the lack of empathy. When they handed me back my dog, all I got was a very nonchalant "sorry about that." NO offers of refund or discount for a future service. I mean - empathy would have been sufficient. Geez! Unbelievable! I will never take my dog back to this place again. August 23, 2010. Ok - I was a bit hasty in my original review. I didn't give management a chance to resolve this. Well, they did. Turns out they have an excellent customer service resolution process. The supervisors contacted me and they were very reassuring. I agreed to bring my dog back in as long as he would be groomed by only the best. They recommended Mona, which is cool with me because I liked her demeanor during the incident. She was the most compassionate. read more

What a sh*tshow that place is. Took our abused rescue there again (2nd and last time) with the explicit and specific instructions to not kennel when drying or between services. We showed up before the pickup time and asked where our dog was. They said "in the kennel drying". They then proceeded to say he was nervous and showing teeth. Apparently the dim millennial either didn't understand the spoken word or didn't care about what we said. Maybe I should have texted it to her to understand. Went on to wait and wait. A nice store employee asked about what we were doing and I just vented (not at her but just explained what was going on) A "manager" was then called and I explained what the deal was. She they were dealing with social distancing and bla bla bla and how the pets are getting backed up. An intellectual person would say, don't book so many then if you're at 1/2 capacity but anything needing a brain fails on these people. She said she would go check and get an update. She then came out and said the Barbie misunderstood what the issue was. As if "don't kennel to dry" can be confused but whatever. She said my dog was mostly dry and finally I had enough of her excuses and said I'll take him home. She then waddles out with my dog on a choke lead with him grasping for air. Really. That happened. At a pet store. We didn't need to pay for the crappy service which was only a marginal wash job. If you have one of those little rat dogs that fit in a purse then you might be ok still going there If you have a dog that is crates of kenneled, you might be still ok going there. Everyone else might as well find another shop. Or be sure and text instructions to the children that work there. Maybe use an emoji too. read more

We bought a 75gallon fish tank a few days ago and came back today for some fish. Stevie helped us getting some fish and he was super helpful. Talk about great customer service. I've never met anybody as positive and friendly as Stevie in all the years we've been a customer of Petsmart that it got me writing a yelp review. Also, I didn't get her name but his coworker who helped out was also quite friendly and helpful as well. I took my puppy to get groomed here a few weeks ago. However, the girl that groomed my dog, did not know what she was doing. When I got my dog back her leash handle was around her neck like a collar. Her harness was completely wrong and my dog couldn't even walk normal. I had to fix it when I got my puppy back. She recommended I take my puppy every 2 weeks so she can get used to baths. Well, that's $50 each time and from my research huskies should not be constantly bathing. other than that, the people on the floor are nice& helpful. This review is for cat claw trimming. Juliet was our cat expert. She was quick, yet professional with trimming my cat's claws. They were shorter than the vet tech trimmed, so the cut will last longer. And there was no injury, pain or discomfort for my cat. Cats are not easy - she is a true pro! I came here for some doggie treats and some grooming for my little Maltese! I've been to PetSmart in San Jose a few times and was happy to discover that their systems are all connected and I didn't need to bring in my dog's vaccination records again, woo! They can also see what services he got last time there too! A few hours later I get the call that my Chester is all ready and he looked o so very clean and perfect! I didn't get the name of the specific groomer who worked on my pup, but I will definitely be back again for all of is cleaning needs. My one beef though is he got the Top Dog Premium treatment, which I don't remember getting last time (as it's more expensive). I'm gonna have to double check next time exactly what he's getting before I leave. read more

Lack of natural foods is a bummer. It's clean, service was good, they had Elizabethan collars for less than Petco ($15 vs. $30 for a 15" collar). I'd go back for toys, cleaners, etc... but I'll have to stick to other shops for food. read more

If you make an appointment for grooming make sure to talk real slow and have them repeat everything back to you or else they will fail to provide the correct services. I made an appointment for a full cut, bath, nail trimming...the works for my dog so he would look great when we visit my mom on Mother's Day. Instead, they just gave him a bath, even though during drop off I mentioned the nails and hair. Their response when I brought up that they only did 1/3 of what I requested was that I was basically S.O.L and can make an appointment for next week. Complete Garbage. read more

Oooooooooo feels so good. Smells good. Fur feels like fluffy air. People show all their happy teeth when we arrive. Lots of kind hands petting heads and backs. Many lovey sounds from their mouths while they groom us. They smell like Chicken and Happy so we lick them a lot. Dad hunts good food for us here too. We take car home fastfastfast and run into our yard. We immediately roll in the grass and dirt while Dad makes a funny Ughhhh sound." So my dogs like this store and so do I. we went to petsmart tonight july 11, 2014 around 6:30 pm to adopt one of the cats that they have available for adoption but instead we encountered some lady who said she was in charge of cleaning the cat cages and then refused to let us see the cats. i told her we had just driven 20 minutes to come and see the cats. she could care less. she went into the cat area locked the door and just gave us dirty looks. so we shopped around the store for 25 minutes. we went back to the cat area. she was still cleaning. so we went and had dessert nearby. we came back 40 minutes later. she was still cleaning. shopped around pet smart for another 30 minutes. she was still cleaning. she saw us. she knew we were waiting and went even slower. we asked someone else who worked there how long it usually takes for them to clean the cages he said "45 minutes." crazy cat lady was still at it after an hour and a half. if by "kitten rescue" they mean alienating and antagonizing the people who are trying to adopt these poor animals then they are doing a fine job. before we gave up we asked one of the other employees to ask the crazy cat lady how much longer she would take to finish her business and then she started ranting at him as well complaining that WE were bothering HER. don't support this store. don't adopt pets from these pathetic losers. pet smart blows and so does the crazy cat lady. read more

This review is for the grooming department. I took my cat there today to get groomed. I told the groomers when I made the appointment that my cat is terrified of very large dogs and she might hiss. While she is okay with our dog at home, she gets a little afraid of new dogs until she warms up to them. They assured me on a Tuesday they wouldn't be busy and she would be fine. I took her in and immediately she was a little skittish because their room was filled with two dogs. I left hoping they would get her started and she would be fine. Fast forward an hour and they call me and tell me they won't deal with an aggressive cat who is hissing or meowing loudly. I specifically told them that her hissing is her scared she has never bitten or scratched anyone and they refused to work with her because of her meow and because she didn't want to be in a cage next to a big dog. Saying a cat shouldn't be meowing is just like saying a dog shouldn't bark, that is their form of communication. If they weren't animal people then they shouldn't work there. What a waste of time. read more

Review is only for GROOMING We took our shitzu for a groom and they butchered him not once, but twice. After the first time, we thought we would give them another try. That was a mistake! The manager only offered a refund for the grooming. What about the 3 months it is going to take to grow his coat out again?!? Worst groomer and grooming management. This is a tough one for me. I will say that as far as my work (as a volunteer) with the animal shelter goes petsmart has always been super accommodating and the management has always been incredibly helpful. As far as a customer goes I prefer not to shop here if it's not necessary. They have a very wide selection of products but sadly most of it can be purchased for considerably cheaper via online sources, Their dog food selection is 'OK' with a couple of new holistic/all natural food selections, other than that it's your typical mish mash of grocery store quality dog foods. In the bird department the toys are not of the greatest quality, mostly mass produced plastic toys for smaller birds and some medium quality mass produced wooden toys for larger parrots. They have a decent selection of seeds and pellets but nothing in the realm of high quality foods. Don't even bother getting me started on the fish section. the store carries fresh water only and half the tanks have at least 1 floater. Their frozen foods are not very good and their tanks are over priced. The store carries some dry goods but it's only a backup if your LFS (local fish store) is closed. There is a good group of groomers and one of them is also a volunteer with me at the Castaic shelter. Their floor staff seems to have a reasonably high turnover rate with mostly young individuals working, many of whom have marginal knowledge on pets/pet care. Their training courses for basic obedience have come highly recommended, but they do not have programs in place for "problem" dogs. As some have said Petsmart has a great adoption program with some wonderful rescues placing animals here (mostly saturdays and sundays), so if you're looking to adopt check them out. As far as pet stores go, not exactly my favorite but not bad. read more

I was looking for a bone for my dog that is smaller and had trouble eating a certain kind previously that was a choking hazard. One of the employees who I wish I remember his name came up and asked if we needed help. We told them our concerns and he recommended another product that ended up being great for my situation. This is my local Petsmart and I go here for almost everything. I have 3 bearded dragons, hermit crabs, a leopard gecko, a veiled and jackson chameleon, and two dogs. I also get my dogs groomed. The ladies who have worked on Obi and Ripley have been sweet and kind to them. I love the card I get letting me know how they did. And now they send pictures! Too cute! read more

JULIETTE IS THE BEST!!!!!!! I have two King Charles cavalier spaniels and when their previous groomer fell ill, I decided to call PetSmart. I spoke with Juliette who was very professional and attentive when addressing all of my questions (worried k9 mommy here). When I actually brought the kiddos into the shop, Juliette was loving on them and praising them to put the dogs at ease. My boy, Baxter, has a rare form of cancer which left him with a large but delicate tumor in his neck. Juliette took time to show me how she would be adjusting her usual process to make things easier for Baxter...and subsequently that was a huge relief for me. Juliette is clearly a lover of dogs, but it's her professionalism and consideration for the dog owners themselves that makes her my go to gal each and every time Baxter and Daisy need a "spa day". read more
