I went there today a mess. My dog is sick and while I was there the vet called to give me his prognosis. I had brought in the wrong expired credit card and could not even think straight. The gentleman I asked for assistance in finding an item to relieve my pets pain was absolutely incredible!! He did not get irritated when I had to quickly change my payment method and continued to help me with dosage information. The cashier was just as kind. I will definitely be in with a thank you card for both of them and will do all My pet shopping here. My plan is to start a rescue for dogs soon and will need lots of supplies. Thank you!!! read more

Alyssa was rude saying I could not wait inside the store with my two medium dogs while I waited for their grooming appointments when plenty of others did the same. Then proceeded to break and splinter her dewclaw to the point where I could see the pink tissue under the nail. Non stop bleeding from the store to home, she got blood all over my car and avoided putting weight on her leg. I asked if they think they can clip it because groomers have had issues in the past and broke it before to which she replied they could... If you think the nail is too thick to cut say something instead of breaking the nail and causing my dog pain. read more

Depending on which location you go to, look out for sick fish... bought 12 female guppies to put with my male guppies and a few platy. Within 12 hours, 5 of the new females had died, 4 were skinny as could be. And the other brought ich along with it! Of course all the female guppies died from ich or whatever else they had. Thank God, most of my established fish survived except for my favorite little platy and one male guppy. Always have a hospital tank to quarantine new fish and honestly use mom and pop shops... ya, it will cost more, but at least they care about the animals in their store!!!! read more

I took my best friend in the world to get groomed at pet smart off of Betteravia rd and after waiting 6 weeks for this appointment when I call to see if my baby was ready the lady at pet smart tells me Sarah had a seizure and is being rushed to the animal hospita..... I frantically rushed to the animal hospital where we saw them bring in Sarah and they asked could they preform cpr I replied yes, in 5 minutes they told me she was dead!!! My baby girl was gone....at that moment I had no words I was in total disbelief that my Sarah was gone, there was nothing wrong with her when I bought her in she never had any seizures that didn't make any since and it still doesn't but I'm seeking legal help because something and someone did something to my dog and I wand justice for Sarah, I don't think I'll ever be the same! Ran in to buy a crate pad for my dog crate. Got help to find product after looking around for employees for a few minutes. Returned to the register to check out and no one there. Another customer comes up and we wait together for 4-5 minutes and then see two employees chatting by the fish tanks. Got their attention but they made no attempt to help us. By then, an employee shows up from outside. No explaination or appology for having us wait for so long. But the icing on this cake was after the transaction the cashier did not say, "Thank You" or "drop dead" or "anything". So I looked her in the eye and said, "thank you for your help" and all I got in response was a blank stare. Got to my car, called the store and asked to speak to a manager. After waiting on hold for 7 minutes, hung up. I will not be returning to this store ever, never, period. Rude worthless employees and lack of customer service will kill any business. If you are searching for a furry companion, don't forget to check out pet adoptions here. I just stopped in today and found 5 very sweet, good looking young cats for adoption. The kitties have already had their first round of vaccines and have been fixed. The adoption fee is a modest $60 which is so much less than what you'd have spent on those procedures at the vet! Better yet, the sweet staff working the area let me know that the adoption fee goes back to the rescue. If cats aren't your jam ( WHO ARE YOU?!) I also saw a few dogs out the front getting set up for adoption. I get my pet supplies from Costco since those deals can't be beat, but I highly recommend checking out the pet adoptions here. I had a very poor experience in the pet grooming salon at this location. I had a scheduled appointment for my dog for a bath and haircut. Once, I arrived and met with the groomer whose name is Kayla, C. we discussed how to care for my dog. I had pointed out some skin growths to avoid any unintentional Knicks or cuts on her. I was under the impression that the groomer had accepted my concerns and as she did acknowledge that she would take extra care when trimming and cutting my dog hair. Not long after about 10 minutes I received a call from the groomer to pick up my dog, due to some concern of noticeable redness located on her bottom. The groomer wanted me to have my dog seen by a Vet and she refused to blow dry my dog. I made an effort to reassure the groomer about my dog not having any issues. This groomer instead gave my dog back to me soaking wet not even having the decency to provide a towel so I can hand dry her. Instead I was forced to take my dog wet in the cold weather. I felt discriminated against by her action and she was unsympathetic to my dog's well being. This conduct is unprofessional and uncalled for and reflects the overall reputation of this establishment. This employee's behavior should be addressed and the appropriate recommendation to reprimand her should be done to prevent this behavior towards another patron. I have been shopping for my pet supplies for years which won't change. As for grooming it will be a no. Based on the way I was treated with my dog. read more

I have been shopping at this location for years. Used to have a very nice, friendly, helpful staff. Now an associate "manager" named Presley works there and the customer service has gone waaay downhill. You can't miss her, she has bright blue hair and a crappy attitude. You can just tell how much she hates her job. I thought the first time she was rude to me, maybe she was having a bad day. The second time I held my tongue because I didn't want to make a scene. The third time I had to tell her how rude she is and has been to me in the past. She of course made a snarky comment and couldn't care less. Presley really needs to be fired and Petsmart needs to hire some people with decent social skills and professional customer service. I get down there looking all over the cat section, cant find it, so I look for an employee and no one around. I go up front and see one clerk and one other woman working in some cabinet, well, that cabinet is where the medication is. I go to check out and its like $32 wtf? Clerk says you need to price match, whatever that is, I was in a hurry so I didnt mess with it then and there. I dont know if I can go back and get a refund or not. Never again will my dog get groomed there. Her grooming appointment was at 10am. Groomer was not there, but I dropped her off. The lady at the desk said it would take 2 hours. Waiting for a call to pick her up. She was supposed to be ready at noon but I wait an extra hour and go over there. Groomer still no where to be seen. The lady at the front desk told me the Groomer said it would be another hour. So I walk around the store for an hour. I go back in, surprise the Groomer is there and she tells me it's going to be at least another 45 minutes. My dog is half groomed and I'm watching her through the window and the talking and laughing with the other groomers is more important than her job. I took my dog home halfway groomed. Got a refund from the Manager who really didn't care about the whole situation. Done with petsmart santa maria. I'm going to buy my own clippers. read more

We love Paola in grooming. She has been our groomer since we moved up here from San Diego and she does a wonderful job. Plus, she gets bonus points for lying to me and telling me how wonderful they all behave. Haha, I appreciate it, but these dogs are literally ordering me around all day err day. Paola is a real gem. I have had to change groomers before simply because my doggies didn't like their groomer, yes, yes, I am one of those. But they love Paola and are only mildly distressed at having to be bathed and pampered by her. If you have a crybaby spoiled little turdbutt dog then I highly recommend booking a grooming appt. with Paola. They will still be mad at you, but much less so. :) read more

Had our dog groomed this evening and looking at her now, I'm trying to see if they even trimmed any hair?! I was asked what i wanted done for her when checking her in. I told the gal that I wanted a good amount of length cut off because her hair grows so fast. I told her all the areas I really wanted focus on, and none of it looks like it was done! It looks like she went over her hair and trimmed the smallest possible bit off just to say the hair was cut. Only gave 2 stars because I can tell they at least bathed her and she smells nice. What a waste. Not at all worth the money we spent. I will be finding another groomer from now on. Highly disappointed. read more

The manager at this store needs to learn how to help their employees and actually manage. Every time I go in this pet smart there's a big line and only one person on register while one other employee is feeding the animals or helping people on the floor. The manager REFUSES to get on register and treats the other employees terrible as they just walk back and forth through the store. If you have this bad of a turnover rate with employees then the company needs to retrain or replace the manager. Don't work in retail if you think you're too high and mighty to actually get on a register to help your customers and employees. Also, they are keeping their reptiles in extremely small habitats which is very heartbreaking to see from a pet store. read more

Groomers: 5 stars Service Associate: 0 stars Avg. 2.5 stars I use the groomer frequently. Tabitha, Shay, and all the girls there have always treated myself and my dog well. My issue is with the service associate. I asked for some assistance in finding the right harness for my dog because she's a puller, and she's a mixed breed with an unusual shape so I have been having issues getting one that fits and stays on her when she's pulling. I asked the associate for help and she said she would be right there, so I waited around for 20 minutes while my dog is pulling and trying to get out of the store and my child is doing the usual "are we done yet" dance, the whole time this lady is just talking to a coworker and watching me struggle. We made eye contact multiple times and I gave her a shoulder shrug, but she just "shrugged" me right back off and continued her important conversation with her coworker. Literally waited 20 minutes AFTER i had paid for my grooming appointment, just for two minutes of this lady's valuable time. I just bought a stupid harness that did NOT fit my dog, and now I'm stuck with it cuz I cut the tags off and this same associate did not give me a receipt. I will continue to use this Petsmart for grooming, but I will go out of my way to spend more money at another store just so I don't contribute to that lazy spiteful mean old lady having a job anymore. Not sure what I did to upset her, but she clearly is not interested in helping me out. read more

So after my last experience, I swore I would never let them near my dogs with scissors again...but we needed their glands done and thought they could at least handle bathing, brushing and expressing glands. Once again I was wrong. We had 4 appointments for our brood, but when the groomers finally showed up (late) we were told they have no kennel room & we would have to bring them one at a time. Huh? (Knowing the Petsmart in SLO takes all of ours at once). We finally decided on only having 2 of our dogs bathed. When we came back at the suggested time, we were told they had at least another hour in the dryer. Standing watching how they handled the other dogs was discouraging. The groomers were so busy gossiping to each other, they paid no attention to the dogs. No words of encouragement to them, no soothing, just grab, cut and keep taking to the other groomers. We finally decided to just take our dogs home damp. While brushing them and trimming them up, we were appalled to see that our dog's tummies still were filthy! It was like they didn't bother washing around the boys privates. Really? Get the hell out is grooming if you can't even bathe a dog correctly! We took some baby wipes to their tummies and now their tummies are pink and the wipes are black. This places grooming is a complete joke and not worth one freaking dollar. NEVER come here. I will go the 40 miles out of my way to take them to Petsmart SLO where I have never had an issue with any of the treatment and the groomers are genuinely concerned about the pets! read more

They loved on her and even gave me suggestions for different foods, snacks, and tips on how to keep her from chewing. Took her to get groomed and the staff yet again was super sweet and loved on her. We took our 2 dogs for a nail trimming yesterday. The girl who checked us in seemed disheveled and disconnected. We told her we wanted trim and buff on one dogs and trim only on the other. She wasn't listening and ended up trim and buff for both and charging for it. We had to bring it to the attention of the manager who corrected our bill. Furthermore. This redheaded girl with glasses and acne and no name tag, was rough with our dogs. She put the leash around the neck and dragged them, choking them until we stopped her. She also mishandled our 16 year old dachshund by incorrectly carrying her which could have resulted in a serious spine injury. Forunately we stopped her from doing so in time. She was neither caring nor apologetic. If you take your dog there you better supervise while they are doing any grooming. Lucky for us we were there for who knows what would have happened. read more

I agree with several of the Yelpers that (at least) Santa Maria's PetSmart seems to be a no experience needed kind of employer which is unfortunate because many people come in trusting the associates here to be pet professionals. My wife and I have had our dog groomed here twice since we moved to Santa Maria from the Ventura area. The first time the experience was less than favorable, but this last time was even worse. We had an appointment scheduled at 8am. The groomer was 30 min late and didn't apologize for the inconvenience. We confirmed what we wanted done and left to run some errands. The store called us at 11:30 to pick up our dog and we couldn't believe what he looked like. It wasn't at all what we asked for. When we arrived there were 6 or 8 girls in the salon gossiping about their drunken night before. I was dumbfounded. I couldn't believe the unprofessional-ism of this store. Needless to say we won't be back to this store and we'll schedule a trip to PetSmart Oxnard in the future to see our old groomer Lisa. Left inappropriate messages that seemed almost threatening... I spoke to a manager by the name of Josh, and he is completely incompetent. He lied directly to my face, and began to try and talk his way out of the issue. Since I been serving my country for over 5 years, I do not condone this bullshit. We made an appointment for our two Labradoodles to get groomed. We were greeted promptly, they took notes on how we wanted them trimmed, it was super easy. Our groomer, Amelia, came in as we were getting ready to leave. She was friendly and our youngest dog took to her immediately . A few hours later , she called us to let us know the dogs were ready for pick up. I picked the pups up, they were happy , and looked GREAT!! I happened to talk to another customer who was dropping off her dog for grooming and said she has been coming to Amelia for six years! We had called to a few other groomers in the area and we were turned down due to the breed of dogs we have. Really??!! I cannot tell you how happy we were with petsmart's grooming service and staff! This is pretty much the only game in town for pet supplies (besides Lemos or Target). They have basically everything you need for dogs, plus training classes (which went pretty well for a good price) and grooming (don't go on the weekends). No real complaints. I went to purchase some training treats for my puppy because the store was offering a great 2 for 1 deal. While looking at the selection, I overheard a dog in the obiediance training barking. Since I had just started taking my dog to another training school I was interested to see what the instructor was teaching. I was horrified when I saw what was happening. There were two clients, one with a medium sized German Shepard and the other client (who was an elderly man) had a small Boston Terrier pup. The German Shepard was barking very aggressively at the Boston Terrier who was visibly scared. The owner of the German Shepard didn't know what to do (which is fine, she is enrolled in training and learning...not her fault and not the fault of her dog.) The damn "trainer" (who did not look professional) was too busy writing on a whiteboard instead of attending to the issue that was occuring. The elderly man looked bewildered and was waiting for some help from the trainer, but she continued to write on her whiteboard!! This situation should have NEVER occurred. The elderly man and the Boston were scared, worried and stressed. That should never happen in a training situation. The owner of the German Shepard looked concerned and embarrassed. I took the items I was going to purchase and I put them all back. It was at this point that I decided I cannot shop at the PetSmart location. The stock is consistently low and the personnel that work there appear as if they just graduated high school. There is never anyone available who looks like they know anything about animals. In light of that incompetence, I have still shopped there because I usually know exactly what I need. However, today was my breaking point. When I saw those poor people and their pets being put into such a scary situation for them all, I told myself I will not purchase another item from this location. I will be shopping a Lemos Feed & Pet Supply from no on. PLEASE DO NOT ENROLL IN TRAINING CLASSES AT THIS PETSMART LOCATION. read more
