I saw online they sold heartworm medication with proof of prescription. I needed it sooner than waiting to order it online so I brought my prescription in the store only to be told by the cashier Petsmart doesn't sell heartworm medication. Really? If you don't know, just say you don't know. I told her I knew Petsmart did because I had just seen it online, I just wanted to know if I could get it in store as well. She wandered off and talked to several people and came back and said nothing to me, but checked out the next person in line. Then she told me they don't have it in store or online. I was getting frustrated and said they did have it online. Then another worker who had been standing a few feet away the whole time came over and said no of course they don't have it because you need a prescription. I told her I had one and she rolled her eyes and rudely told me if I wanted to order it online I could. No help at all. Then the groomers tried to charge me an extra $13 dollars to get my tiny puppy's nails filed. $13??? and when they groom, apparently your dog won't smell good after. you have to pay $5 for them to use conditioner. obnoxious. taking my business somewhere else. read more

When I got here, the automatic doors were partly open. Someone's dog bolted out the door and straight into the parking lot. Of course all the employees fled the store to catch him but wow. Do not buy a reptile from this pet store. The workers there don't know how to care properly for the reptiles. I bought a bearded dragon from here and they knew nothing about the bearded dragons needing vitamins and calcium supplement dusted on their crickets and other feeder insects. They just said ya all you need is a uva bulb and crickets and a cage. Bearded dragons need a uva and a uvb bulb along with a variety of vegetables and feeder insects and without the calcium with vitamin d3 dusted on the crickets the bearded dragons can develop metabolic bone disease. They aren't educated on every animal in the store and it's sad that PetSmart allows this. Don't take their advice on animals they are just as clueless as the people going in to ask the questions. Go to a breeder and learn quality information about your reptiles. 95% of PetSmart employees don't know jack shit about reptiles this is why most of them either end up dead or developing a disease when a customer takes them home as a pet. read more

I usually look for local dog shampoo/grooming places for fear that my dog will be just a number at a chain store, but today I was desperate and they had an opening. My dog's skin was really dry and I could tell she was uncomfortable. I recently bathed her myself and was feeling bad that I may have caused it. Ny could tell I was worried. She took excellent care of my baby. She gave her an oatmeal bath and a deep conditioner to help. My dog looked cute and happy when I picked her up. And Ny was very professional yet friendly. She made me feel really comfortable leaving my dog in her care and bragged about how good she behaved during her spa day. I was so impressed that I plan on returning when it's time for a haircut. read more

This is the worst Petsmart I've ever taken my dogs to be groomed at. It is dirty, they lost one of my leashes, and said they were unable to grind my 3 year old yorkies nails. They said he was too anxious. He's 3 years old and has been groomed every 3 months his whole life. I don't think anyone there today actually likes dogs. We won't be back. read more

My review is for Ny, groomer extraordinaire! I have two dogs, one of which needs grooming on a regular basis. When I moved to San Marcos six years ago, I had difficulty finding a groomer that did not hurt my dog. Yes, I said HURT. The first couple I went to actually shaved her belly so close that she had skin abrasions. The last straw was when I took her to the groomer at my vet and she came home with a laceration on her vagina that was still bleeding the next day. I was not even told when I picked her up that an incident had occurred. Poor Daisy went for over a year after that with no professional grooming. Finally, we both couldn't stand her shagginess any longer and I decided to give Petsmart's Grooming service a try. Ny was our groomer and she did a fabulous job. Daisy always seems happy to see Ny and she always comes home looking good and more importantly, unharmed. read more

My dog's ligament was torn during a nail trim and their response was that it was due to his age because he was sixteen years old!! The store is really clean, and the service can be good if you act like you don't know what you're talking about. I bought a set of guinea pigs there last month and they were happy but very skittish, barely handled at all. Yesterday I went to purchase another guinea pig, as we upgraded the cage and we want to start a little herd of boys. We got him home and he had LICE. I hadn't put him anywhere near any other animals or bedding. When I called the store they wanted me to come and BUY a solution for him. Are you KIDDING me? I am not going to pay money to treat an animal you sold me that is sick! After getting really short and talking to a manager they reluctantly agreed to give me a product off the shelf for free. At first they wanted to give me a pig that was in the same cage as him as an exchange. That pig would have lice too! The vet wasn't even sure if the medicine (that was for fleas/ticks) would work. I ended up driving out to New Braunfels to the mom/pop shop and got excellent service, and now my pig is in good health and the lice are dying. Not buying animals from here, even if the prices are competitive. read more

Just wanted to write an update to say that, while I still think this is the best pet supply store in San Marcos, we no longer use the Banfield vet clinic here as I stated in my previous review for reasons given in my review of Banfield. Otherwise, this is still a great store with a huge selection of products. I've yet to find a better pet supply store in the area. read more

I'd never go here if I had a Petco nearby. It isn't that I don't like Petsmart. I just prefer Petco (Rewards dollars are the shizz, yo.) and this Petsmart just sucks. The staff is sooooo rude. There's a blonde woman in her late 30s/early 40s and she's always cranky. However, I do love the Martha Stewart line. Speaking of lines, there is always one here. The fish selection is saddening, usually floaters in every tank. And no matter how often I go there (at least 4 times a month) the same employees repeatedly ask me a series of condescending questions related to my tank size and care skill. Dogs: Frequently are out my furry child's favorite bones. Ultimate sadness. Forced to go to Target, they're miraculously never out. Not enough trial size bones selection. My baby is picky, paying $25 for treats/bones he'll never eat is frustrating. Cats: Toy selection and food selection good. My only complaint is that I've had to switch from Blue to Science Diet (the horror!) because they don't carry Blue's Healthy Aging for senior cats. :( tl;dr: bad selection, bad service read more

I love this Petsmart! My dog has attended their puppy classes taught by Andrea(who is an amazing,sweet, and very knowledgeable woman) and is a regular at the grooming salon as well! She's shy but the ladies are so sweet and always do a great job cleaning her up! As for everything else petsmart is the place to go! The staff is kind, they have a wide variety of food, toys, animals, clothes etc and they even bring in shelter dogs for adoption! Love this store :) read more

I have a standard poodle in which I am very very very picky on who what where and how any one touches my dog , I just wanna say that Jessie is amazing she came so highly recommend when I walked in the store that day I went in she already had 3 standards on her day I was so impressed with how beautiful they all looked her hand scissoring skills are amazing the lady that was the last dog she did looked the best and she told me no one else will ever touch her dog I made my appt with her and could not belive how amazing my Maggie looked !!!! I normal never write reviews, but I just had to commend the young lady, who groomed my dog this past week for the amazing job she did. I actually live in Houston, but had to come in to San Marcos for work so while I was in a meeting I dropped off my dog at the groomers and was lucky to have had Destry groom my dog. I travel a lot for work so I have taken my dog to various pet smarts including a few in Houston and no one has every done such an amazing job as Destry did. Not only did she do a great job on my dog she was also very sweet and attentive. I will definitely be making more trips to San Marcos in order to have Destry groom my dog, she did that good of a job! If you need to take your dog to the groomer i would highly recommend making an appointment with Destry! read more

My review is about the grooming salon. I have a terrier mix that I have been taking to the grooming salon for about 2 years now he is very timid since he was a rescue. The girls there are very sweet to him! I wish I knew the names of the employees to recommend their services. He goes is with his tail tucked and a little nervous but is greeted by happy dog lovers. I am even greeted by name! There are a few people who really stand out to me (I can describe them) one is a tall slender girl, one is a girl with red hair and the other is girl with light brown hair all which greet me with smiles! My baby always looks great no matter who works on him. I love my local petsmart even though I don't like cooperations over locally owned businesses but this store has a "home like" touch to it. I love that I see smiling faces when I walk in the store and that they seem to be enjoying working with the doggies. I will continue to go to petsmart for grooming as long as I am in San Marcos! read more

Horrible customer service in aquatics department, an employee by the name of Micheal outright ignored me as I stood in front of the fish tanks for 15 minutes while he attended to another customer who came after me, even as I clearly tried to get his attention. Had to have another employee come and help, as Micheal continued to walk by me as if my existence was merely an illusion. Will be making the trip to anther pet store from now on. read more

The San Marcos Store. Talked to 3 different people and they gave me a price of $49.00 for the basic service of a Bath, trim and ears. i called 3 times!! Thats what my mother wanted. So she sent my brother in to drop him off and pick him up. He came back with a bill of $29.22. they only gave him a bath. When i talked to the manager he came back and said that all 3 that i talked to in grooming said that i wanted a just a Bath. Not true. No Sorry, no nothing. Kinda rude too. read more
