I've had my dog groomed here twice, and each time the groomer Dante has forgotten to perform a service in which I paid for. The first time, she clipped my dog's nails and did not grind them. On top of that, she forgot to put a bandana on her (all of which I pay extra for). The second time, she forgot to clean my dog's ears, which is a basic task for a bath... Then of course I have to bring her back in for them to do something they should have to begin with. I hate that I have to thoroughly check my dog every service to make sure they do everything that I pay for. Lone story short, I would NOT recommend getting your dog groomed here. read more

Homie how long does it really take to get help around here. Every time I come to get 10 large crickets it takes 30 minutes just to find someone. I came recently and I asked a lady to help me and she said of course I'll be there in a second. I waited another 10 minutes for her and she never came. Instead another employee had to help us. There was also a time I waited so long that there was a line forming by where the crickets were at and I said F it I'm getting my own crickets and other people started doing it to. When I got the register they asked who helped and I said I helped myself and they said " you could get in trouble for that." I doubt it cuz y'all have no one watching the store. This is the first yelp review I've ever done, but I had to get on here because this is literally the worst Petsmart I've ever been to. I have never had a positive experience here, not once, and this business needs to change ownership or honestly shut down. It is an absolute sh*t show. The only reason they have any business is because it's the only Petsmart in town. First of all, Petsmart's hours are 9am - 9 pm. They don't open at 9am y'all they actually open whenever they feel like it :). Multiple times I've tried to come in at 9:15 and the doors don't open, and there are no employees visible in the store. Or, worse, employees once employees were standing there and looked at me like i was an insane person. Maybe they don't know the hours of their own store, which honestly? Is pretty on brand for them. Second, and I'm sure anyone who's been to this garbage can of a business can second this, the checkout line will always take you at least 30 minutes to get through. They always only have one cashier (??? With a twenty person line ???), and said cashier always seems to be the slowest moving, most job hating person they could find. It would actually be funny if it wasn't so incredibly inconvenient and annoying. It doesn't matter if there's two or ten people in line, the cashier will move as slow as possible and they will never have more than one person on the register. Lastly, the employees are wildly unhelpful. They don't know where anything is. Don't bother asking them for help, they will always offer zero to none and send you on a wild goose chase to get you out of their face (I used to work retail, so I'll admit I myself am all too familiar with this move.) It's honestly so astonishing that this place is still open for business. If anybody wants to open another Petsmart in San Marcos, please let me know because I will gladly invest just to put this one out of business. If you can make it to the Petco in Kyle then do so. Avoid this place at all costs. Oh and don't take your pet to Banfield unless you hate your pooch/kitty. They do not treat/handle your animal with any kindness back there. Trust me on that one. Clean and friendly petsmart. There's a special area for adopting cats. Clean and stocked with items. Good location next to the highway. Despite being in less than great lodgings, animals has food and water and were clean. I know pet stores don't have the best places to house pets, but at least this one looks good for the animals. I took my sheepoo Lucy to be groomed from a groomer named Louie. DONT EVER LET THIS MAN NEAR YOUR BABY! She is 14 years old and a nervous breed. I take her just before spring and have her shaved . Obvious this man is new because I didn't know him. I told him how I wanted Lucy groomed and when I went to pick her up he shaved her down to her skin! Her breed has a long tail and rather than leave a poof on the end he shaved her completely. I asked him why he did it and he got smart with me saying I was LUCKY that he groomed her because she was so matted. She is my baby and she had just a few small mats. Lucy was traumatized for several days afterwards. Don't ever take your babies here !!!!! read more

Just had the EXACT same experience as Katie W on 1/9/2022, where the Fish Expert refused to sell a pleco unless we had a 50+ gallon tank. We've had larger pleco in our 36 gallon bow front (which was also purchased at PetSmart) for over 15 years; it'll be just fine! Nice try to upsell us to several hundred dollars of tank instead of a few dollars of fish, though. May I also point out, Ms. Fish Expert, how many DEAD FISH are in your Expert Fish Dept in overcrowded tanks? May I also bring back the Ziplocs full of fish from your store which died within their first days of ownership? It takes waving your arms and chasing someone down before any employee will deign to help you in the Expert Fish Dept, at this store, and then 9 times out of 10 you get attitude. Between problems experience with the manager a year ago and problems with Expert Fish Associates, we're done here and taking the thousands we spend per year on our own pets and our extensive fostering efforts to a different store. read more

I've been to plenty of pet store but this one.... The poor fish... they say they clean there bettas every day I found 3 dead bettas and majority of them were severely sick. Algae growing in over 20 cups. In my opinion I don't think any fish should be stored in a plastic cup with 1/8 in areas of air . After asking for the manager to talk about fixing these poor fishy's cups she told me she'll have some one take care of it . I was in there for a good amount of time and nothing had been done . She instead just pushed me off to a college employee and told me she'll handle me the rest of the way. She was quite snarky and rude about me being nicely concerned about animals that THEY SELL! PetSmart definitely needs to be held to a higher standard with bettas . They are so smart and resilient ! Smarter then a lot of other fish they have in big tanks. The actual big fish tanks were low on sand you could see half the floor , water was poopy and gross,picosmos fish were eating dead fish in the back of the fish tank! I should've taken more pictures of the conditions I was just utterly baffled that you could be a pet store and only sell reptiles fish and gerbils, and still fail to be able to take care of some fish!! They didn't ask to be there . I was scared to buy a fish. I did buy some because I felt disgustingly bad to leave any of them there but I will be putting them in a quarantine tank for they might actually get my fish sick!! I have been a consumer of PetSmart since inception. That's a very strong statement. I must be a fan, right? And I am! However, I am first and foremost my pets' advocate and caretaker, and PetSmart has been my go to company for 40+ years. So my current rating is based strictly on my experience last two times that I have had my elder Great Pyrenees washed and brushed out, at two different locations. I am less unhappy with the latter than the former. Here is what I am most frustrated with. Both times I spent a lot of effort to communicate, and confirm they heard, that his mane, skirts and layers where not to be touched. The first time, his mane was 3" shorter and his skirts were "feathered"... this time, overall a much better experience yet, once again, I was not listened to. I very specifically said, no cutting or trimming anywhere except to trim his fuzzy paws. I even called out potential mats between his legs... I said if they find a mat that they can't work out with conditioner, to leave it! So-- Why did you shave his belly? read more

Love-hate relationship here. I love they don't sell cats or dogs, but instead bring in rescue groups to adopt out. I love they offer training, which makes both sides happier. I love they are conveniently located for me. I love their employees get holidays off and part-timers can get health insurance. I love they've been better about stocking egg sticks lately. I appreciate they don't sell live feeders (frozen pinkies and up are in the fridge by the fish section). When the little independent stores are out of what I want, I know I have a good chance of finding substitute products here. I am glad they carry different varieties of food and treats from grocery to premium (do read your ingredients so you know what you're paying for!) for customers' different needs and priorities. I'm glad of their return policy and very glad I've not yet needed to test it. I wish the snakes and most other critters had bigger habitats and that they didn't use the Banfield vet to treat in house. I wish they usually had more registers open. I am aware I pay more here than I might elsewhere, but again--convenience. I wish more staff were scheduled through the day or at least at peak periods. read more

Wanted to pick up a plecostomus. Bailey from the fish department refused to sell us one, for whatever reason. She mansplained that a 10-20 gallon tank wasn't large enough, only a 55 gallon tank would be satisfactory to sell us one. Yet they have 20 + plecostomus in a 10 gallon!! Rotting away! We were backed into a corner and had an uncomfortable experience even as intermediate aquarium owners. Keep in mind there were dead betas, dead fish everywhere, but we cant bring home ONE plecostomus to a 20 gallon tank. read more

5/5 for the grooming service and Banfield vet. Gage in the salon always does an amazing job on both of our hounds. The dog plans are a great service and the vets are very tentative and kind. 3/5 for petsmart as a store. The employees are not very knowledgeable of products or animals. They also did not have a food that my vet in the store prescribed. The line is almost always incredibly long and slow moving with 1 cashier for a while. read more

Took my dog to just get a nail trim since they have "happy hour". I've taken her to another grooming place but i was on a budget this once. Her nails were long so i just felt bad having her nails so long so we went. As soon as we walked in i could tell they didn't want to work on her since she's a pit. She's super sweet she just has attachment issues and is NEVER aggressive. Got her checked in and of course the least they use is also a collar so when the leash is pulled the collar is tightened. When her and my dog were walking back my dog was trying to come back to me and the lady pulls it. She gets the leash wrapped around a pole on the grooming table MULTIPLE times. One other lady says "mom why are you still here" Jokingly or not still didn't appreciate it. Just give me my papers and let me go outside if you're really annoyed by me being in there. I paid and not even 1 minute went by from when i walked out to pay. "Dogs name is ready". I RUSHED back to the room and as soon as i see my dog my heart breaks. Her eyes are BLOODSHOT! They ask if i like her nails bc she was "uncooperative" she's a dog. Her nails are all SEVERLY UNEVEN! CHIPPED!! i said yeah it's fine ill take her. She had pooped inside because of her being so scared. This is the first and last time taking her here. NEVER COME HERE!! I got my girl some unsalted fries to apologize. OK, so I'm currently petless. It's a little like being homeless, but you still have a roof-roof over your head. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy going into pet stores. I have a friend whose cat is a Greenies addict, and this is the only place in town we've been able to find them. This means there are regular pilgrimages as Pumpkin devours the candy jar. I like the cleanliness of the store, and the lack of smell. Something tells me things are being kept c-l-e-a-n (DO YOU HEAR ME PETCO?). They have a wide variety of pets for sale and are well stocked with pet products to keep your pet healthy and happy. This store features a Banfield veterinary center, a grooming salon, a training center, and adoptions. To feed your pet addiction, they team up with the local P.A.W.S. shelter in Kyle to bring their most adorable (and sometimes forlorn) into the store for you to visit with and hopefully adopt. I wish my situation were different, but I love animals so much I'd probably wind up on one of those "Animal Cops" shows for having too many. It's best for me to stop at zero. At any rate, give this PetSmart a try next time you're in the area. read more

If you have a pet that needs prescription food go somewhere else, especially if you're on a tight schedule. Came in tonight and the manager wouldn't let me purchase prescription food because he said I needed a special card from their in-store vet. I had a brand new Rx from my vet that I just got. Their in-store vet was closed so I couldn't get a new card. They said I needed to come back when their vet was open which I cannot do due to my schedule. I don't even go to their vet, I never have. They need to be more reasonable. People are stressed out right now due to the pandemic and if their in-store vet is closed when a customer comes in to purchase food w an active prescription from their own vet they should honor the sale. They lost a $100 sale tonight and permanently lost a customer. Terrible judgement and awful service. read more

I was greeted at the door as you walk inside the store and it was clear that they were available facemask and hand sanitizer station right in front of you as you walk , in and that the cashiers as you check out. The staff was helpful if you need it and also I was able to find what I was looking for in limited selection so at that point I had to go to a different store just to find the other items that I was looking for. read more

There's only 1 guy that I trust at the aquatic section. Literally 1 guy knows what he's talking about. I believe his name is Michael? Don't quote me on that though. He's my boy! I have gotten all of my fish here, and it's really a hit or miss with them. DO NOT buy any fish if there's dead ones in the tank. The ones that are alive will probably be sick and will get the rest of your fish sick at home before dying suddenly. I have 4 fish that are still alive and healthy, but I have bought a few others who died shortly after. Just make sure you purchase fish when they get a new stock in, when they're all healthy. It's a shame coming to petsmart and every single tank has at least 2-4 dead fish floating around. Not a good look. I feel bad for all the other ones that have to continue to live in those diseased tanks. read more

Went there a few days ago with my fiancé and our dog to get her groomed for the first time (our dog is still a puppy and growing) and this lady checking us in, I think her name was Avery, started talking to us and belittling us like we were children. And to make matters worse when we picked up our dog she was still wet and her paws were never shaved. Paid $70 for something I could've done at home. Never going back. Wouldn't recommend. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a petsmart. I called the store 10 minutes before I left and they said there were not any pickup orders. So I placed my purchase and headed to the store since they didn't seem busy and they were closing in an hour. The manager ridiculed me and told me they got my order one minute ago so I should have waited. The print out receipt showed what time I ordered it, idk why should would even lie ab that. I only got one box of cbd treats for my senior kitty because she has cancer and was having a painful flare up with her symptoms so I was in a rush to get back to her. The manager took her sweet time grabbing the treats even though I said I could grab them myself (the store was empty btw, they weren't even busy). I was amazed she still had attitude towards me even after she got the treats. She mentioned to me I should have waited three hours?? (They would be closed) As a pet parent, I am disgusted by this behavior, I didn't need any added stress. Very disappointed. For the 2nd time within a week, I received a call that there was a call off and they will have to cancel the grooming appointment. This is very frustrating being that I have to move heaven and earth and work around their schedule to set new appointments. Mind you, I have 4 Yorkies. Went there the other day to pick up some stuff for my dog for Christmas. The whole store smelled of pee. It was really strong. The store it's self was dirty and I saw cockroaches. All the animal cages were disgusting. Most fish that look likes they were on their last life line. Just very sad to see. The staff in this clean-smelling store is friendly, knowledgeable and always helpful. Really good people here. But nobody's more helpful than Andrea C., the dreads-sporting Dog Whisperer of San Marcos who teaches training classes for pups at all levels. Andrea is an enthusiastic and consistently positive life force who offers useful tips for training dogs to behave like you want 'em to. She's kind of famous in San Marcos and with good reason. Our pup Maisy has improved leaps and bounds since taking beginning and intermediate training with her. Oh, and dogs think Andrea is God. I'm not kidding. Petsmart also now carries more natural and grain-free food options for dogs and cats. We feed our pets Blue Buffalo food and Petsmart carries a ton of varieties. read more

We have gone to this Petsmart for years, mostly because it is the only suitable option in San Marcos. After years of feeling neutral about my shopping experience, I am extremely disappointed that one rude manager will make us rethink any future trips. We were seeking to return a crate with a bad bottom latch. We had this crate two days and came home to a dog sitting in a bottomless crate and with cuts on his face. First day, we thought it was user error. Second day, we went to return it. I called and asked the protocol and sent my husband with receipt in hand and ready to exchange. He was told by one staff member to find his replacement crate. The manager on duty (Leticia) then said he could not return the crate because it had bite marks from our dogs two days of use. We explained that that wasn't the issue, that the latch didn't work. This dialog went back and fourth until it ended with her yelling at my husband (in front of a long line of customers) and refusing to mark the item as damaged to return to the manufacturer. One call and a slightly longer drive later, New Braunfels Petsmart easily exchanged the item without an issue. I understand that customer needs aren't always able to be met, but yelling and belittling your customers is a bit much especially when there (obviously) are solutions that can make all parties happy. read more

I have an aquarium that is in need of some fish. I go onto the petsmart website and see a few I am interested in on sale. I go to the store and the prices are much higher. I ask if they honor the prices on the website for live fish. I was told that if I want the fish I have to pay the marked price and that they do not honor the corporate website pricing. The assoc. then goes and asked store manager and was told the same. I could understand this if the sold fish online but they don't. All live fish on the website states "in store pricing". Very knowledgeable staff, overpriced products. It's nice to go play with the kitties up for adoption. The dog trainer really knows her stuff. Our food always behave when she is watching, the moment they forget she is there though..... Nice environment, I like the pet mess clean-up stations conveniently located around the store and the friendliness of the staff. Their watering area could use help though. I like the selection of toys but the customer service here is abysmal. I went in today to purchase a 55g aquarium kit that was on sale for 50% off. There was none on shelf so I asked if there was any in backstock. There was not and they will not be getting more until after the sale ends. I asked if they could do a rain check on the price since I would like to buy it but only at the sale price. They said they couldn't. This is unacceptable, if you're going to have a sale like this you need to have more than one available for the duration of the sale (it's only a week long sale). It's also worth noting that the fish are not in great condition. There's always sick and dead fish in their tanks. read more
