2026 / STILL THE WORST PETSMART EVER. I'm not even sure how they're still in business. There's no way staff are getting properly trained. If you are considering taking your pet here for anything PLEASE RECONSIDER. Terrible service & handling of animals. If you HAVE to use Petsmart try the Knightdale location at least. This review is in regards to the male groomer who checked my dog in for his haircut this morning at 10:30. A word to the wise... When a paying "client" raises an issue of the puppy trim not being much less than the full cut your immediate response should NEVER be "Sir, I don't make the prices." That is how you get dragged on Yelp and Google. That's a very fast way to end a business relationship before it even begins. It is your job to validate my concern and then find a satisfactory resolution. And PetSmart needs to do a better job of training their groomers to handle client concerns in a way that they feel heard and understood. Onyx... Thank you. I took my pet to this grooming salon on July 3rd. My service included an anal gland expression. 8 days later, I took him to the vet for an exam because he began abruptly sitting down. The doctor called and said his anal glands were completely full. They also said his ears needed to be cleaned. Clearly these two services were not completed my the groomer. I spent about $600 in two days in vet bills trying to figure out what was wrong with my dog. I called to speak to a manager about the situation, and unfortunately Ryan came to the phone. I say unfortunately because Ryan was extremely rude, smug, unaccountable, and honestly completely useless. He told me that they only express the glands externally. Even The external expression wouldn't have left his anal glands backed up. He just basically pulled a random answer, that was completely illogical, out of the air so that he could absolve himself and his staff of any wrongdoing. This salon will cheat you out of your money and rush through your pets' services. Ryan is a liar, and he is absolutely HORRIBLE at customer service. He shouldn't be allowed to work in a field that allows him to be in contact with others. This salon, and its manager are absolute trash. I had a terrible experience at this Petsmart today. I walked in and it smelled like urine. I looked below me and there was a huge puddle of pee just sitting there. Great.. I had stepped in it. I looked around and no employees in sight. Nobody cared enough to clean up or at least put a caution wet sign next to the pee puddle. Whatever, I told myself and I walked over to the dog food aisle to buy my dog his food. I picked up my dog's bag of food and realized just how much their prices had gone up. 100 dollars for some dog food??? No thanks. I decided to leave the petsmart, but right when I was about to exit, a dog ran out of the grooming room and attacked me. The petsmart worker came out of the room and just watched the dog attack me. I went to this Petsmart at 8:30 pm. The parking lot was empty, which concerned me. By the time I came out it was dark. As I walked to my car, another car appeared out of the shadows. The car pulled up next to me and the passenger started talking to me. I kept moving and got in my car and locked the doors and pulled away. The other car left. I have been trying to call for an appointment for my dogs to get their nails trimmed for 2 weeks and no one ever picks up the phone. I'm talking like at least 20 different phone calls on various days. I finally got someone in grooming to pick up today only to immediately be told "hold please" - and after 5 minutes was transferred to somewhere else in the store. That person told me grooming was now closed. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! It was 2:15 pm on a Wednesday. I've found another locally-owned grooming place that wound up being cheaper (bonus!) and have an appointment for them there next week. NEVER TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE. They are super rude, and when we picked up our dogs, to our surprise they shaved them down with a 1guard!!! They told us there were knots and they couldn't do anything about it. They also charged us $166 and handed us what looks like two naked mole rats! They charged an extra $30 brushing fee.... as you can see our dogs no longer have hair so I'm not sure how that happened. read more

My pup loves coming to the PetHotel. He is always bolting through the door when we get there and the staff always knows him when he comes in. He's so excited to greet everyone and the staff is always friendly when we come in and when greeting my pup. His report is always good and staff always has a good time playing with him during his one on one play time. I have never had any issues while my pup is in their care. When I pick him up he is always so tired and usually lays around and goes to sleep as soon as we get home. The check in and check out process is always handled professionally and swiftly. read more

You all need better animal handling training if this is the line of work they decided to go with, not just for your safety, but that of the animal being treated/groomed. The groomers at this location are inexperienced and don't know how to listen. I specifically advised upon dropping off my German Shepherd that he doesn't like his hind legs/hips touched my strangers and doesn't like his nails trimmed that for THEIR SAFETY they should put a muzzle on him. I watched as they disregarded my warning when getting him on to the grooming table. When they did the typical tether and started clipping his nails, my dog, as I had stated started to freak out and TRY to bite. At THIS point they did another tether to keep his head straight and applied a muzzle. Two groomers could not manage to clip his nails. The typical stance to secure a big dog on a table is to hold said dog in an arm lock by the head and beneath the hips, which your staff failed to do so my dog was freaking out, sliding everywhere, and your inexperienced staff labeled him as too dangerous to have serviced. read more

I'll buy items that may be on sale, but generally PetSmart is rather expensive. I need to get a crate, but a guy at the Raleigh flea market has the same thing for approximately 40% less. I need an elevated feeder, but I found a good one on Overstock.com for less. PetSmart has a ton of pet stuff -- cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, fish and others -- and it's good if you need something right now...but I would say shop around before buying or catch them on a sale. And after reading Sara B and WhiteCamel K's reviews, my baby absolutely will not be boarded here. read more

I must admit when it comes to pet stores I prefer locally owned with high end products but the selection here is great. The staff is just short of too helpful and they do carry premium brands. No issues with this visit to Petsmart. I had survey coupon to use & Milo needed some treats, so while I was out tuning errands, this location was near by. Store was clean & not busy. Treats are right at the front, by the registers, so my trip was going to be short! Everything is signed & priced well. Thanks to my Pet Perks membership, the treats were BOGO! This membership definitely has its privileges. The employee that checked me out was friendly & efficient. I like that they open at 7 AM, since I was out early. Parking is plentiful. Large well stocked store. I like that there is a large variety of pet food options, from the main "grocery store" brands to premium and specialized needs. If you are going to shop here I highly encourage you to sign up for their customer loyalty program for discounts. The store also has a Pets Hotel, with a large glassed in area for doggie play - and it is fun to stand there and watch them playing. Also on the premises is a grooming area, a cat adoption center and a Banfield Animal Hospital. I have found the employees to be pleasant and helpful. Horrible place to leave your beloved pet/family member. Left my dog there for three days only to get a call on the last day telling me he was being transported to a vet because of some injury on his underside neck. Picked him up to find an area 7 inches long the vet had to shave and raw bleeding skin. Also both front elbows had sores. They said he did it to himself but there's no way if you could see where it is. He hasn't been himself since coming home and wouldn't eat for three days. Acts as if he experienced some sort of trauma. Then I find out they put them in small crates all day, he's 80lbs, unless you pay more for a 6x6 rm...wasn't told this. They make them go to the bathroom inside on concrete with a drain...wasn't told that either. Anyhow he's getting better but I get angrier whenever I think about the abuse he obviously endured and guilty for leaving him there! Do Not take you pet here! This place needs to be shut down! At this location, I boarded my Golden doodle for one night. Given that I had never been separated from my dog before, I was extremely nervous about this whole experience. We got my dog a suite, and as much play time as possible. He is not neutered so he was separated from other dogs. Although the staff was nice, I will never board at this location or maybe even a Petsmart again. When I went to pick up my dog the following day, I waited in line behind two other families who were picking up their dogs. As I was waiting, I over heard that staff mention to both families that their dogs had had loose stool. When it came time to return my dog to me, the same was mentioned too. The staff member was polite and stated that this was probably due to separation anxiety; an explanation that I readily accepted. However, this was not the case. My dog had caught a bacterial infection at this Petsmart location, and I believe the two other dogs did too. Gross- this experience has turned me off from boarding period. For $80 a night, I expected to have the same healthy dog that I dropped off. read more

If I had only gone into the store, This would probably be a 4 star review. Great customer service and lots of love towards my pup. However, this review is for the pets hotel. Let me begin by saying, we are very happy with the places where we currently board our pup. But we are always looking for different places to switch it up for him. Now, with that being said, I came in to this PetSmart on a Friday afternoon with my pup and noticed what seemed to be a sweetly decorated pup hotel. And in fact it even looked nice on the inside. However, we'll never really know because I refuse to go back. One of the staff members offered to help me and I let her know I was inquiring about different places to have our pup stay for a long weekend now and then. She took one look at my pup and without asking or saying anything said, "Well given his breed, he would have to be separated from the other dogs, he's not allowed to socialize" I looked at her with some confusion and said, "an English Bulldog isn't allowed to socialize with other dogs here?" Yes my fellow Yelpers, that's right, you know, an English Bulldog, the chubby ones you see on skateboards on YouTube and greeting cards dressed up looking un-amused? That's my pup. If she had approached it differently, maybe I wouldn't be so annoyed. She looked at me with equal confusion and said "Oh, is he really an English bulldog?" Really? I get that it's a Friday afternoon, but how can you work at a pet store and not know your basic breeds? Also, why don't you believe me? His color is different than most granted, but what sort of customer service is that to challenge me? When I reiterated that he was a purebred, she looked at her coworker and said "Are English Bulldogs allowed to socialize" Her co-worker said yes as long as he was neutered. The employee looked at me and said, "Is he neutered?" She's standing right next to us, she can see that his bits are not there, yet alas, I confirm that he is neutered. She then asks how's his temperament and has he played with other dogs before (fair questions). She then gives me a run down of prices which are definitely more expensive than any other place in the area and any play time is additional. To board them alone is 29-39 a night but then any play time and treats is extra. Some other workers came over to give my pup some attention, but their questioning seemed to come more from trying to confirm he is in fact an English Bulldog, and not another breed that I'm trying to pull over on them. I love the other pet stores in the area. While this one is closer to me, I'm willing to take the drive to go elsewhere. read more

I know...I know...Support local businesses...Down with the man. Sometimes you just need a spot to grab a bag of dog food, pop your pet in for a checkup and get a inexpensive yet qualty grooming. As a new pet-parent I was hesitant to try PetSmart for both grooming and veterinary services due to the insane amount of people online and in real life who blasted them as one big corporation that doesn't care about pets. I was guilted into thinking if you go here then you must not care about your pet's well-being which is simply not true. A local groomer can be just as crappy as one from a chain, same goes with vets. I did my homework, came in a few times to see the store's interactions with pets and their owners and then decided to try my luck! Store: While I usually make the trek downtown to Phydeux for my pup's treats and toys I do on occasion pick up his food here. It's almost $5 cheaper and the associates are always happy to help me with questions and suggestions (they also love to give my pup lots of loving). The lines are typically short and with their PetsPerks program you can often save even more money. Vet: I have been using Banfield Pet Hospital since March and have had very few problems with it. I signed up for the Optimal Wellness Plan which is $25 and offers unlimited visits (which is GREAT for a crazy paranoid first-time pet owner like me who thinks every sniffle means certain doom), all the required shots, two total physicals, and a host of other random things. The nurses and vets have been great with Louie, and now he actually somewhat tolerates being here (that's the best I imagine i'll get from him). My only issue with Banfield was that they failed to call me after finding out that Louie had an ear infection. I only found out when I was checking out and picking him up and they billed me almost $100 for medicine I didn't know about. Apparently the vet who was supposed to call me left suddenly due to a family emergency and no one ever realized I wasn't made aware of the issue. When I voiced my concerns the next day with their online survey I was immediately reached out to (a few hours after submitting it surprisingly) and the manager personally apologized and offered to have me back in to explain the medicines or have someone call me. It was nice they realized their mistake and tried to make it right! Grooming: After owning my poodle for about three months he finally needed a proper groom. After not being able to get in ANYWHERE around here for at least a month I decided to try my luck at PetSmart. Alas! They had an opening for yesterday and would be happy to take my pup. The girl at the front was super nice and asked me lots of questions about how I wanted Louie's hair. She also explained to me (and showed me) a few mats on his back legs and gave me heads up that they may have to cut those spots a bit shorter then the length I decided. I appreciated the heads up, because when I came back those back spots were a tiny bit shorter- but the rest of him looked great. He was soft, smelled good and was a happy pup which is most important. They gave me a doggie progress report, letting me know how everything went, and even offered me some suggestions on how to get him more comfortable with the idea of nail grinding. For a five pound poodle I paid $45 for everything, which is on the lower-end of the grooming range around here. TIP: The groomers here CAN take tips! How everything is set up (pay at the registers and no tipping signage) it may be confusing, but after asking around I found out it's not necessary but very much appreciated! As for the other aspects for PetSmart (Daycare, Training and PetsHotel) I have not had a chance to try them yet. Because of the group set up I don't think Daycare would be a good fit for us (I cant imagine my 5lb Poodle playing with an over excited German Sheppard), but I may try the PetsHotel if I ever need to unexpectedly go out of town! So all in all I am not filled with guilt coming to PetSmart for many of my doggy needs! Like in any store it all depends on the employees and management. We moved to NC a little over three years ago and were not sure where to take our pets for boarding. Since we were on the health plan at our local Banfield, they suggested we try the PetsHotel at Millbrook. Our dogs have been going there (anytime we need boarding) ever since. While the "runs" that are used are mostly cages, and they are not connected to the outside - you have options. You can purchase a large kennel area, or a primo spot, for added $. You can also put your pup in doggy day care, if they are the social type. They also offer individualized play time sessions, if your doggie needs more 1-on-1 time. They take good care of our dogs and make sure they are fed their special foods, treats, and meds. The doggies have the comfort of their own blankies etc. Each time we come to pick up the doggies are quickly ready to go and are clean and have no issues. We have no issues with kennel cough (even though we did have this before when we boarded in VA, as our dogs are small). Our dogs come home happy and healthy, and thats all we can ask for! I would rate them higher, however we did once have an issue with being charged for "spa" services that were not completed. I brought this to their attention and got a refund, but it sorta makes you wonder if they forgot anything else you paid for... read more

I have a Petco in walking distance, but more often than not I'll take the drive over to this PetSmart. Our little pekingese (Dutchess Lola VonSassypants... or Lola. Whatever.) is a regular patient at the Banfield therein, as well as a regular with their grooming salon. She got a full service groom with the "top dog" package added just a couple of days ago, and she looks fabulous. Her groomer's name is Jimmy and I highly recommend his services in particular. I have yet to utilize their PetsHotel or Doggy Day Camp, but I'll definitely update my review once we do! read more

I went to this Petsmart before the one slightly closer to me on Six Forks opened up. Thank goodness that one opened now, because the people here do not care about customers overall. Both times I went in there, most of the people were just chatting to each other and didn't even seem to notice that they had a customer walk in. My last visit to this store, however, made me feel uncomfortable. I went later at night, so only one register was open. That's totally fine, and the female cashier was the nicest person I encountered in the store. While checking out, the cashier asked if I found everything alright, which I did. Within a few seconds, one of her male coworkers came up, put his foot up on the counter, and just stared at me without saying anything. The girl even asked if he had anything to say or if he was just standing there, but he continued just staring at me. The last thirty seconds or so of my transaction went by, and he followed me out the door and watched me get in my car. Needless to say, I felt pretty uncomfortable. I am sorry for that cashier, because she was the nicest person at the store. I don't like feeling uncomfortable when shopping, so I won't go back to this location. read more

We've been boarding our pooches at the PetsHotel on Millbrook for years. Our two 3-year old Maltese brothers actually like going there, and they willingly follow their handler to their temporary home. The folks know them and always greet them with loving words and petting. We always get a review of how they ate, played, etc upon picking them up. I enthusiastically recommend them-they give top notch care of our pooches. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I went in to buy some comet goldfish to cycle a new fish tank. I spent about ten minutes in the store, there was nobody at the register, nobody greeted me when I went in, and I stood by the fish tanks for about 7 minutes and still nobody came over. I looked at the comet tank, and there was a PILE of dead fish. I mean at least 30 dead goldfish. I understand fish die and it's hard to not have a couple at a time, but to just let it sit like that? Disgusting. Those poor fish. When I saw that I just turned around and walked out. Do better petsmart. read more

This store is chronically under stocked. I can't think of one time in the past 3 years that I've gone there that they weren't out of at least one thing I came to pick up. Nail clippers, certain fish and aquatic plants, aquarium supplies, I can never seem to leave this store with everything I came for, and there have been times where I came for one specific thing and that's what they were sold out of. I would prefer to use this store because it is close to my house, but I cant see myself continuing to come to this location when I can drive an extra 5 minutes and go to the location in Knightdale which always has at least one of EVERYTHING on the shelf. Good management would tell you that if you consistently run out of the same product, week after week, then you should start ordering a larger amount of that product. read more

This location is always clean and friendly. There are always doggie puddles...it's a pet store and most people should not be pet owners... That being said, I'm kind of undecided on the vet aspect of Petsmart. I do take my dog here for basic needs but if there were an emergency, I'd likely go elsewhere. However, I love love love the grooming salon. My dog Major loves going there to see Jimmy! He always gives Major a lot of positive attention and he will call me when he needs to up charge or suggests a change to our normal grooming routine. I brought him fudge at Christmas because we like going there so much. It is expensive so I don't go as often as I'd like but when we do go, Jimmy will throw in a little spritz of doggy cologne or a nail grinding to make Maj feel like a real prince so we visit as often as we can afford. read more

We used to go to the PetSmart in Brier Creek but we've moved so this is now the closest one to our house. We have the Optimum Pet program which is $35 per month for my toy poodle and it covers all of his vaccines, his annual teeth cleaning, 2x annual exam, bloodwork, fecal exam, TONS OF STUFF. So we're very happy with that. When I first drove up/walked in to the store, it was not very appealing. It looked older and more worn out than the PetSmart in Brier Creek but when I brought my dog in for his appointment (4:15 on a Sunday - so convenient!) I was SUPER impressed with the vet and vet tech. They were super personable, so sweet to my skittish dog and the vet tech even showed me pictures of his golden doodle. They also called this morning to check and see how my dog was doing after his vaccine. Very impressed and keep up the good work! read more

I do not plan on going back to this location after today. It sucks because it is close to my apartment but there is no reason to spend my money here and I would recommend that no other consumer would either. First and foremost, they never have anything in stock. They are also very overpriced. I would recommend going to any other location. I have been to several petsmarts that are way better than this one. Second, my apartment building needed to be treated for insects and my cats could not be in there while that was taking place. It was a less than ideal situation so I called to make a reservation-mistake #1. I was on the phone for 30 mins total, it was 15 mins before someone would answer the phone. The woman on the other line was helpful, made the process easy and confirmed they could stay for just the day. Perfect. Fine. Today finally arrives, I get my cats ready, prepare my documents and we head out the door. I had my reservation for 7:30am. We were waiting in line for 30 mins so it was 8am before we were even waited on. I provided them the requested documents but it clearly wasn't enough. I adopted my boys from the Granville County Animal Shelter (great place and people. I would HIGHLY recommend them) this shelter has cats at 2 PETSMART locations. So technically I adopted them and they were cared for BY PETSMART. I was told I could not board due to not having a document on fancy letterhead from my primary veterinarian (who has not done any vaccines on my cats because they were done by the shelter-good for 1 year) that they had the feline distemper vaccine. The vaccine had been administered. It was administered when they got their rabies shot and wouldn't you know it includes vaccines for feline panleukopenia, calicivirus and rhinotracheitis WHICH WERE ADMINISTERED AND CLEARLY SHOWN ON THE PAPER but these people didn't know that-because they are not trained professionals. Why would you leave your precious baby with someone who isn't a trained professional? Who knows what they would have done to them anyway after meeting the staff and seeing the "hotel"- more like kennel. The staff was not courteous, not polite and this was honestly a blessing in disguise. Thank you petsmart hotel for absolutely nothing.. read more

I've been coming to Petsmart for all of my pet needs since getting my Yorkshire terrier. I have had no major issues with staff nor Banfield hospital. The staff has been extremely helpful in educating me on equipment and pet needs. Occasionally I come across a staff member that tells me that they don't know about dogs only about cats, but they immediately redirect me to another staff member that can be of better assistance. There have also been instances when my puppy has urinated on the floor and staff have insisted upon cleaning it themselves. I would have to say my favorite associate there is Nancy, she's always eager to help, plays with my yorkie, and always has a positive attitude! read more

I have to say I was extremely horrified when I arrived to take my pup to doggie daycare. The day care is entirely inside and keeps dogs in a tiny room. There was probably over 15 dogs in this small space and the dogs didn't have any room to run or move around. All the pups were just standing there. This left me feeling incredibly upset about the conditions these dogs are left in. I can't understand why anyone would leave their beloved pet in any situation like that. It would be no different than leaving your pet in a crate all day. The staff was standing around idol, not showing any interest or interactions with the dogs given that they had no space to play with them. I turned around and walked out and I argue anyone that has any care for their pet to never consider leaving their pet here. It is outrageous that this still remains open. read more

Jared, the manager, is extremely rude. Had an attitude during our entire transaction and refused to give cash back for a return (I paid with my debit card) and told me it had to go back as credit. According to Petsmart's return policy located on their website, when you pay with a debit card and return said item, if you have the card present, you receive cash back. Jared needs to learn Petsmart's policies. Jared needs to brush up on his communication and customer service skills. I love me some petsmart but I will never return to this location. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. Honestly, I can't really talk about experience of a groom here for my pup because they are too inexperienced to even complete one. These washed up, barely passed grooming school groomers couldn't even take 5 minutes to get my dog on the table before they decided they wouldn't take him. Upon walking in, the groomer told right off the bat he would have to call us in 20-30 minutes if he couldn't finish the cut, like he had already made up his mind that he was not going to give our dog a haircut before even touching him. This was his very first hair cut (I'm not going to act like my dog is perfect, he was nervous and jumpy) and my dog has a lot of fur and a few tangles (aussiedoodle) but they called us before we even stepped foot in the parking lot to tell us he wasn't calm enough for a hair cut. Did you really expect a puppy with his first cut to jump on the table and not make a move? Don't board your dog at the Millbrook Petsmart hotel. My dog recently had a bad stay. When we picked Jax up he was covered in ticks while in their care. Staff did not show any empathy or concern to Jax condition... we never received a call regarding this! Quite naturally I am pissed! Don't board your pet here...
