Warning: if you have a big dog, do NOT get them groomed here. This location will make you schedule baths for 7am because they don't like having to groom them in the afternoon......REALLY! We have a smaller Great Pyrenees (about 70 lbs) who had been getting her baths there monthly. About three months in, we realized that EVERYTIME we called to make an appointment, regardless of the day or how in-advance we called, the ONLY available appointment was 7 am (mysterious.) additionally, after taking our Pyr for her last two baths (at 7am of course) she came back smelling like she did when we dropped her off! She is a very gentle, loving, timid dog that follows every command....so I know that she wasn't clean because she put up a fight. She loves getting a bath. The last time we dropped our Pyr off for her bath, a large Golden Retriever was being dropped off for his bath as well, and the owner had mentioned that she-too was only ever offered a 7am appointment as well (mysterious.) Unfortunately this location's poor performance and their blatant dislike for bathing large dogs has resulted in the loss of this customer for good! The Petco on Rockville Pike does a far better job of bathing (she comes back with a pep in her step and smelling like cupcakes) AND they actually enjoy having her.....at any time of the day! read more

I've been to this PetSmart a couple of times. It's like any other PetSmart stores. Sometimes they are full in stock of items and sometimes not. It's a hit or miss for employees, I assume some shifts they had more workers than others. Sometimes there wasn't anyone around to even ask for help other than ONE cashier. My personal experience there was okay but the one that threw me off was one time when I was curious about some ingredients in dog items, no one was around so I decided to ask the receptionist and vet assistant at the Banfield area. She didn't want to at least tell me something/info about the ingredients but tells me "I wouldn't want to buy anything from PetSmart, can't be trusted". She said it with an attitude, so I walked out and that was it for me. Not coming back. read more

I was sorry to read all the negative reviews of the grooming because I have had really good experiences at this Petsmart. Disclosure: I only bring my dog there for nail trims, but every time I have gone, they take her right away, hold her for up to an hour and a half if I have to run errands in the area and have always done a decent to good job. Last week was wonderful; the nail clipper, a blonde girl with glasses, told me she not only cut, but grinded my dog's nails for free because they were so long and it was hard to see the quick. I was really impressed, especially since it was my fault the nails were so long. She did this on her own volition, and you could tell she cared; she could have just clipped and been done, possibly hurting my dog in the process. My only knock would be the price; it's 9 bucks a nail clip, plus I usually tip 1 or 2 bucks, and for something that takes under 5 minutes to do, and for something you have to get done twice a month, it's kind of a lot. However, I did call my vet and they charge $15. I guess what I'd like to see is some sort of "Frequent Groom" card where you could earn stamps, a la coffee and ice cream shops, and if you purchase a certain number of nail clips or grooms, you can earn discounts or free ones for being a loyal customer. read more

Let Kevin groom your pet. He is the BEST. Our Mick, a yorkie - jack russell mix, always relishes his trip to the Petsmart spa and grooming salon. I have never had issues here. All the personnel are friendly and helpful. Easy to schedule online appt, full menu of items to select from. Our basic grooming, nail grinding, tooth brushing, and shampooing package was modestly priced. What is priceless is Kevin's attention to detail and caring attitude. Any pet owner should feel safe with their grooming needs tended to by Petsmart's fine complement of groomers. read more

Worst groomers ever. Will not be bring my pup back to this location. I made an appointment for my dog at 10 am I requested a bath and a trim. I came at 1 because they have not called me yet to pick up my pup. When I get there and ask if my dog is ready they tell me he's not ready, and that he will be done by 2 pm. I don't understand why it takes 4 hours for a cut and bath. Not coming back a read more

Still bad customer service. Wanted to buy a choke collar, and the manager who was helping us was really rude and condescending. Made it seem like we were bad people and weren't training our dog, without ever meeting our dog. I think she may have missed the part that we have a service dog that underwent years of training. Worst part of it was that we were buying the collar for a friend and we told her that too. Perhaps it was all that wax in her ears or something, but I'll never return there. Too bad. read more

Don't get me wrong- my family has been to this Petsmart before. As shoppers, mind you. And they have pretty good deals, great customer service (by that I mean, the people who walk up to you and ask if you need help. Not the people at the registers, who were cordial at absolute best. So why does it have only one star? Because no amount of good deal, pleasant store help, etc, excuses the horrid outcome we received at the on-site grooming facility! We took our two dogs, 1 big and 1 little, to the vet to: a.) get their shots/ check ups b.) get their nails trimmed by a vet, and c.) get them thoroughly checked for fleas, because we KNEW we were going to the groomers right from the vet. Both Big and Little were found to be delightfully flea-free, so we happily transported them to the groomer. The staff members, of the grooming place were a mix of friendly and sour; the one who was assigned to actually groom our dogs was sweet, but the one who makes the appointments, etc, ignored us for about 10 minutes, then kept insistently calling us by the wrong name! Whatever, we thought- the woman needed a nap or something- at least the groomer was nice! Furthermore, when we came back for the dogs, they both emerged, shiny and unscathed, to be brought home.. Where our previously flea-free pooches were discovered to be anything but. I can't believe it, but, honestly, there's no other explanation. Yea, the dogs looked great, and they weren't traumatized by the experience..I know the groomer did a great job. But I'd rather go the old-fashioned, messy way of grooming my own pooch rather than bring home a dog carrying those uninvited guests. read more

Kris J groomed our 2 year old maltese-shih tzu today for the first time and I couldn't be happier with the groom, check-in process, and their professionalism. Kris J asked a few questions and I showed him a picture of a previous groom at his regular groomer and we discussed what I expected. I paid the extra $15 for a faster appointment called in order to save me a trip back to pick up. His face, legs and feet were groomed and sculpted beautifully. Kris delivered the cutest little thing back to me. I highly recommend him. Good job. read more

My Yorkie had her 1st appointment here for grooming and they did an okay job; nothing marvelous. We tried dog chalking for the first time (on her ears and paws) and the chalking done was very faint/light and was completely gone by the next day. I totally expected for the chalk to last at least a few days. I planned to bring her back to get it redone the next day, however, I did not have the energy to complain to management about the poor chalking job. Parking at this location is easy peasy. read more

This review is only about the grooming services and not the store itself, which I have no problem with. I took my Shetland Sheepdog for a simple bath with brush out. I also requested a nail and feet trim and a sanitary trim of her backside. Her feet were still raggedy when she came back, as if untouched, and they had barely trimmed her behind. She didn't get anything complicated, as Shelties don't need hair cuts or styles, but even a bath was unsatisfactory. read more

Had a good experience with the grooming salon here. Seems as though Yelp can sometimes be hazardous if read prior to finding out on your own...similar to the way you can lend knowledge of someone to another and find out that the person really isn't that bad after all. Anyway, I took my large breed dog to this grooming salon, had an awkward encounter with the person checking us in and then another awkward telephone conversation later (I later remembered that I was in MD and equated it to that), but my dog walked out of that place looking EXACTLY how I'd asked for him to look. The groomer did try to talk me out of having him shaved down because of how it can change their fur so much when it grows back; had this been the first time he was being shaven I would have appreciated what felt a bit like a guilt trip. However, she complied and did precisely what I asked her to do and he looks fantastic. The shave came out even and smooth. Great job, Bridget. The people in that store do seem to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder but after reading these terrible reviews I think I'd be upset with the average customer, too. Where are all of the reviews from the other dog owners who I witnessed picking up their well groomed dogs with satisfaction written all over their faces? read more

The thing that is keeping this store from an excellent resource is better service. The store packs a great variety of products for your pet's needs and prices are fine if you keep an eye on sales. The issue is that it is diffuclt to get caring employees to help. I hope petsmart reconsiders both thw training and pay that they offer their workers in order to make it a better purchasing experience. read more

I wanted to buy a flea comb (there was only 1 so that's what I got) and shampoo designed for flea issues (there was none). And I hoped to buy several large bags of cat litter. But they keep the cat litter on a shelf that's too high up. So I needed help to get it, and I didnt see any help around. I didnt buy any litter so they totally lost out on that money. read more

I would not recommend this location for grooming. My dog was dropped off and I was told it would be 2-3 hours and they would contact us when they were finished. He was done in one hour and we were not contacted. After 3 hrs I showed up and asked for my dog, they brought him out and he was still wet and hadn't been brushed. His nails looked like they had been cut with dull kitchen scissors. And a day later he has a coat filled with dander. When dropping off my dog the woman behind to counter said about another dog, "I can't get these dogs ears right, they'll have to do" and when I went to pick up there was a different dog that had just been picked up & the two women were joking about how terrible she did on the dogs feet. The manager refunded me and was very apologetic. I will not be returning for grooming services. read more

I would give Petsmart less than one star for accurately determining the sex of their gerbils. For Christmas, we bought our son two male albino gerbils. He named one Viktor Krum (after the famous Bulgarian Quidditch player) and the other Chip. These gerbils turned out to be a little anti-social with humans, despite our best efforts, but they seemed to like each other enough. My husband and I giggled as we danced around the issue (with our 7 year old) of why Chip occasionally seemed to be 'aggressive' towards Krum (translation: Chip mounted Krum) ('cause animals do that). We were not, however, giggling this weekend when we discovered a massive pile of babies in their habitat. Apparently Viktor Krum is a Viktoria Krum. ("Surprise! I'm a girl, and these are my babies!) I still don't know how many there are- maybe 8? After I carefully picked my jaw up off the floor, I called Petsmart. (Surprise! We told you we sold you a male, but it's not!) They couldn't help and referred me to the County Shelter. So after much googling, talking to the county and a vet, I'm facing 7 weeks of baby gerbil raising, weaning and socializing AND I have to either neuter or buy a new habitat for Chip as they now have to be separated- unless I want another pile of babies in 25 days. Because apparently gerbils like to mate right after they have babies. Gross. So beware people. Those $7.99 Gerbils can get really expensive, and like to propagate like it's the end of the world. read more

WARNING: Negligent Groomers!!! After a recent visit to the grooming salon, my 8lb Yorkie returned urinating blood. The MEAC vet determined suspicion of trauma, due to all of his lab results coming back normal for any other potential causes like an infection. While the store manager has been polite, she states the groomers won't admit fault and therefore not much can be done. I expect reimbursement for the nearly $500 vet bill I incurred due to their negligence, but I feel like they're giving me the runaround. The day of the incident and since then, the Banfield clinic onsite refused to see my dog stating they were booked. They didn't even take into consideration he was injured onsite at their store! I am completely disgusted with the lack of concern I've experienced at this store, and I have filed a dispute with the BBB. If you love your pet, DO NOT have them groomed here. read more

I drop by this PetSmart every now and then to pickup wet food for my pup. During my first visit, a Blue Buffalo rep helped me pick out the right food topping and wet food to get my dog's appetite going. My pup isn't very motivated by food, and this was super helpful to me. I'm always in and out pretty quickly. The store itself is a little old inside and could maybe use a little remodeling. Otherwise, great for what I need! read more

When I walked in a woman was on a panic that the staff had misplaced her dog (How? I have no idea.) She was crying and claimed they had done something to her dog and proceeded to breach the off limit area. The groomers were extremely professional and handled this woman's hysteria with skill. I noted they are an all African American staff and my sense this woman was acting out of fear they were untrustworthy. I have been taking my dog here for years and have never witnessed such behavior from a customer. Kudos to the staff for handling this situation so well. (Her dog was in a crate waiting for her to collect him. This behavior was unwarranted.) read more

I LOVE pet smart, they are right across the street from where I live and they have a VET attached, AWESOME! They have so many variety of foods for your animal. Price wise it is costly but what isn't? I am sure everyone is aware but for those who are not you can bring your pet with you inside the store! If you have a dog they have a dog bar with a variety of treats! I have TWO cats and I adopted them both from pet smart and they are healthy and full of life!! I love pet smart. If you have not yet go check them out! You will love this place too. read more

***PLEASE AVOID PETSMART GROOMING!!*** I took my dog in to Petsmart in Rockville to get him groomed for his birthday (yes, that's my baby in my profile photo!). First, they had confirmed a price of $79 (including all the services I asked for) over the phone, but when I arrived, the said the price was $90. I didn't want to argue being that it was for his birthday, so I said fine....that mistake ended up costing me more. After taking him home from the groomers, I noticed he kept scratching under his chin. When I looked, he had a BALD SPOT AND A CUT on his neck! The groomer either failed to see this (although it was the diameter of a golf ball) or decided not to tell me about it. He started shaking really bad the next night, so I took him to the animal hospital the very next morning. The doctor said since there was a clipper burn & cut and my dog was scratching, it developed a hotspot and infection. There was also dry and fresh blood all over it, which she cleaned with alcohol (my dog squealed so loud, people heard it from the waiting room!). She said he was shaking because of the pain and his inability to scratch (I put an e-collar on). My dog lost his appetite for 2 days (had to hand feed him) and is just starting to regain it. He is on antibiotics and a drying agent gel twice a day. He whines every time it itches him and comes to lay his head on my lap all the time so I can can rub the itch away. It's heartbreaking to know he's going thru this because of an grooming trip to Petsmart!! On top of that, the hospital visit & meds were $200. I know he'll get better soon (he already is), but I would never want anyone to go thru this! Petsmart grooming is definitely banned on my list. Please do not use Petsmart Grooming at this location if you value your pets well being & safety!! read more

During checkout, one of the cashiers decided to share loudly with his co-workers (and by default all of the customers in each of their lines) that he and his girl were getting along well, in fact so well that they visited a strip club together the night before... to which all the other cashiers oohed and ahhed over. Glad to know Petsmart employees have such a strong sense of what makes a good relationship, but that was a little TMI for me! It's Petco from now on... read more

Went to Kayla (the salon manager, I'm told) to groom my Persian cat for the first time. She was on break when I checked in, so someone else took notes on what I wanted and said that if Kayla had any questions, she would call me. I asked for "just a trim, so NOT a lion cut" - exactly those words. Three hours later I called to see if my cat was ready (of course, I was told at check-in that THEY would call ME, which they did not, but I digress...) and then went to pick her up. Lo and behold, I peeked into the carrier and my beautiful Persian cat now had a lion cut - precisely the thing I did NOT want. The minute I realized this, I let Kayla know, and she explained that the girl who checked me in did not note on my check-in papers that I didn't want this cut. She also said that they will not do anything BUT a lion cut on cats, which the girl at check-in conveniently did not mention. Major miscommunication all around, but mistakes happen, and Kayla promptly refunded the considerable cost of the groom which was at least some consolation. But the story wasn't over yet! I brought my poor traumatized cat home and let her out of the carrier to get a better look at her and found that not only did she have this haircut I didn't ask for, but it was done extremely poorly with several missed spots and a choppy and uneven clip all around. She looks, to me, completely ridiculous. And it gets worse - I spotted a sizable dark spot on the edge of her ear, and upon closer inspection realized that she'd been nicked and there was a chunk of dried blood stuck to her skin. A good groomer should promptly communicate any injury sustained during grooming, no matter how superficial, to the pet owner, but of course there was not so much as a peep from Kayla or anyone else on staff in the salon. I had to discover the injury when I got home, after the store had closed. Although I guess that explains why she was so quick to offer a refund for the groom - must have been to distract me from the more substantial problem! The rest of the staff at this location was decently attentive while I browsed the store and provided good service in processing the refund, but the severe lack of communication and care in the grooming department means I will not be bringing my cat or any other pets here for grooming again. At this point all I can do is hope that my cat's ear does not become infected or that the injury is not serious. read more

This review is for the grooming section and actual store. Been to the store multiple times, always A+ service and selections. Cashiers are always so friendly, compared to the Cherry Hill location near my house. Today I took my mini schnauzer to get groomed for the first time here. A few hours later, I came to pick him up, and Ingrid had done the most amazing job on him. She was super friendly and seemed genuine with his progress report. I will continue to drive the 30 minutes, rather than go to the Cherry Hill location! I've never seen my schnauzer so cute before!! Thanks so much! read more

I took an abandoned blind and deaf Havanese who obviously had not been groomed in a long time in to Taylor. He was in a real mess. She was so good with him. She called me to give me an update and then recommended we called it a day as he was so traumatized. She was so compassionate. I took him back a couple of days later to Hum. What an amazing lady! She managed to finish his groom and get him shaved right down. He was immediately so much happier and more comfortable. Awesome job ladies. Thank you read more

I have been a customer of this pet smart for nearly 15 years. it did not always have a grooming department but i am not to happy with the Banifield either. This was an excellent place to take my dog for her vet appt and for grooming until recently. The people are nice over all. But now I have been told that to get my dog a bath (she is a Bloodhound weighs up to 100lb and is 13 years old) that I now no longer can book her a weekend appt bc the new management has decided that older dogs take up a full 1hr over all to groom and they pretty much want the younger dogs on the weekends to come and fill their time slots instead. Tell me what the hell is the difference between a 4 hr furminator grooming session for a young dog that could be booked during the weekend under this new policy v.s the same thing for an older dog that will take the same amount of time and exceeded this new policy who will be getting the same thing as that younger dog and still come up with the same time frame? What is then the point in "Booking a grooming session"? from what I understand booking means " to Schedule a meeting or Appointment upon an agreed appointment time slot or reservation (such as a booking of a room or flight) that has not already been reserved by another. This can be a professional provider offering services to clients. This appointment usually is scheduled in advance. The provider will render the services depending on what the client has requested and the time can vary depending on selected service offered or based on already book reservations." Meaning If I request to get a furminator bath and grooming for my dog on Saturday and you have the opining and no one else has claimed it in your scheduling book, then you should be able to provide that regardless of how old she! Especially because no matter what age she is on the services I would like to book she will still be 1hr over your silly time limit and would be the same time limit for your younger dogs of the same services. HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I now work 3 jobs there is no way on this earth that I can take her on the weekday and with my back injury I can't lift her myself to give her a bath and trim her nails! Thus, they have lost my business completely after 15 years of loyalty which I am sure means nothing to them at this point. Keep in mind that PetSmart is a different entity then Banfield and the grooming, but since thire is now no point in browsing the store while waiting for either an appointment to be over or to make one there is no point in shopping here anymore. Good bye read more

This is usually the store I go to to get my dog toys, food, or anything else. The regular staff is always helpful and I never have a problem getting anything I need or asking for help. The reason the review is 3 stars is because the grooming part of this petsmart is not good at all. Took my dog in, asked not to cut it short at all, and just trim it. Come back later to pick her up, my bill is twice as much, and she's shaved down completely. You would figure they would call me to inform me that they were doing something else. All I can say is I will still shop here, but never get my dog groomed here. read more

Stay away from the grooming lounge!!! This should actually be ZERO stars. I called the morning of my dog's grooming appointment to confirm the appointment. As soon as I walked in the grooming lounge I was informed my dog could not be groomed as scheduled, due to her assigned groomer calling out. Really? They claimed having called to let me know ... 30 minutes before my appointment time ... and I have yet to discover any missed calls/voicemail message indicating as such. They offered no apologies, no offers to re-schedule, no interest in providing any redeemable customer service ... I guess I should have read their abysmal yelp reviews before wasting my time making an appointment. I'm in the groomers, didn't make an appointment. With the 4 groomers that were on staff I would assume one of them at some point would take a walk in, you know because they are advertised to take walk ins. front desk girl did not even speak to us, a groomer was the one who just flat out denied us today. Zero help what so ever in that department. Now I'm in line, only one cashier open. Waiting for the cashier to try to figure out how to switch a lady's wet dog food for a different flavor. Finally figured out how to do that and then we were up in line. Tried asking a different employee who was on her cell phone texting if the groomer accepted walk ins. She said yes they do.....ok.
