My German Shepherd cattle dog who is 8 years old has been groomed at the California Petsmart since she was 6 months old. We move out here and I take her to the Witherspoon PetSmart for grooming twice. The first time (Feb 2023) a gentleman groomed her. No problem. Was told she was a sweet dog. Picked her up today, and this short, obnoxious associate stated they will not groom my dog again because, get this, "she lays down while trying to groom her." They also refused to do her nails for the same reason. I contacted a groomer in Cary who said they'd never heard of that as a complaint. Even though it is much more, I'll be taking my girl to a professional groomer out here. read more

not gonna lie, pretty disturbing. many animals were dead, and i mean DEAD. i was not just mistaking them sleeping. fair warning- pretty nasty. one if the fishes were in half next to a filter in their tank and its fins were scattered everywhere while its body just stuck head first into the rocks. there was a decaying frog. as well as these fantastic views, there was a few more to them. another thing is, the cat adoption area. one cat was being forced into somewhere (i could see through the window) and they were all in tiny boxes about the room of a amazon box. im not much of a animal person, but this was pretty messed up. do better. read more

I like this PetSmart. I only hate that regardless of the time I'm there, Monday morning vs Saturday midday, there's always a long line to check out. There's never enough staff at the registers. But, they'll always be special to me because it's where we got our second cat, Sun! I didn't realize that PetSmart works with the Humane Society and the store isn't the one selling the cats. The Humane Society oversees all of the adoptions. For some reason this made me feel better. read more

My regular poodle groomer stopped during the pandemic and I started taking my dog to PetSmart. They do a great job. I've been there four times now. Every person I run into while I'm checking him in are wonderful with dogs and Jordan is a really skilled poodle groomer. Very happy with the comb-out and cut of the ears and topknot, the various close shave areas like the face and feet, and my dog's general happiness and lack of fear or anxiety. Natasha and Maggie were amazing. My beagle mix named Bella was nervous in entering the grooming space, and Natasha knelt down and coaxed my pup inside, greeted her with warmth, and performed an assessment. She was very informative and put my mind at ease about leaving my fur baby in someone else's hands. Maggie had my constantly shedding pup in show dog shape by the time she was checked out. This place is the worst. Twice I took my dog to a scheduled appointment and was told, while I am standing in their facility, that the "stylist" had cancelled at the last minute. Their was nothing they would do for me. Not even reschedule the appointment for the next day. They don't even do a great job grooming and charge a lot for shoddy service. We usually use pet smart at north pointe and it is wonderful. They were booked out for October and my pets hadn't been groomed since Covid started. So I booked with this PetSmart. You wait to go in and when you get in there it's like 6 people huddled around literally doing nothing! This rude guy Johnny comes over and told me that he couldn't do what was promised at the time of scheduling. However I left my dog there to get his service and it was partially done. This has to be the best corporate pet store I have seen in a long time. The employees remember me, and they always do their best to answer my questions. They price match which is really helpful, and they have a card you can get points on for store credit! They host animal adoptions all the time which is great and have a vet and groomer in the back. GROOMER: SETH is who I went to and I loved having him do my dogs hair and teeth. The best shes smell for such a good price. The vet (Phillips?...) has also helped us with our cat we adopted from Granville Human Society and got her a solution without making me pay for extra tests and doo-hickies! Love it. And lastly, I have never seen a dead animal here unlike Petco. They care for their animals and I know they nursed a gecko back to life after it got into a fight with another gecko. Good employees that care about animals. Missing a star because their ferret food variety is restricted and cricket prices are a bit steep which I have to get 100 every weekend. Love their sample days because it's like a treat for my cats to get wet food toppers and they liked most of them we tried! read more

The people who work back there act like they HATE pets and i don't like that energy from someone who is going to groom pets. The one groomer i really liked (Alexus B) doesn't work there anymore and the others just don't do as good as she did or are as happy as she was. I am only giving 2 stars but I do want to say that I give Tess who my dogs absolute adore 5 stars! It's been so hard to find time to book with her our schedules just don't match. I just like any dog parent treat them like they are my own children. So with that being said Holly is so mute. There is no feeling of enjoyment from her, she looks like she hates her job. When I told her everything I wanted for my dogs haircut she literally did the exact opposite of what I asked. And when I picked them up they still had poo stuck to their bums. I explained to her before I dropped them off that I tried to clean it but they wouldn't let me and I know they usually allow Tess to do whatever. It's like she literally ignored me and left poo stuck to their bums. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE WHEN THEY ARE GETTING BATHS AND A HAIRCUT. I came back and was waiting to ask if their bums could be shaven more. She walked in looked at me with disgust and said something wrong with them? I simple asked if their bums could be shaven more and she said I did the best I could with what I had. TESS HAS NEVER when I ask Tess would take them and fix it no problem. I didn't have the energy to fuss about it. I also want to add she left knots in my dog and left long pieces of hair around their paws. Sad, if you don't like your job then go somewhere else. We were there earlier today to look at fish with our kids, and the tanks are so bad. Not just fresh dead fish, but full on rotting fish. Algae all over the tanks-which can be normal sometimes, but the tanks were grimy. I was so shocked bc petsmart is usually a big step above grimy pet stores. My wife said something on the side to an associate who looked like they were in charge and he was really condescending to her. She's pretty timid so I was surprised he was treating her like a Karen. It was worth saying something over. Smh the pet groomers were really nice even though they were swamped and had employees out for being sick. Banfield staff were helpful finding prescription cat food. The cashier was super friendly too. Just the guy in the front office taking inventory by the fish was not taking it well when told the tanks were in bad shape- and they are. read more

GROOMING SERVICES: This review is strictly about the grooming services--which I've been using for the last 4 years with our first dog, Bruno--and today I took in our new dog, Bella--who is a rescue dog and had some serious matting issues in her tail and coat. The groomer, Seth, was fantastic! I highly recommend him to anyone who has a dog with a long or complicated or matted coat. He shaped and tailored her coat so that she looked SO BEAUTIFUL afterwards--in fact, when I took her to Phydeaux afterwards, everyone complimented her on how lovely she looked. While I think the groomers at Petsmart, in general, are good, Seth was the best groomer I've worked with and will definitely go back and ask for him when I have to take my other dog in. read more

Shopping: Ovie would like me to tell you that he loves this place. The staff are always fawning over him and are very helpful with any questions. ALL of them know where items are and if they're in stock. That's awesome because I don' t like spending a lot of time shopping around a Petsmart, it's just not something I want to do with my time. They have a decent stock for dog items. All kinds of toys and food and grooming products. Although it's more expensive that what you can find online, it's a quick stop shop if you're in need. Training: We're doing the beginners training class with Ovie. We have a total of 2 dogs in there and it's wonderful. He gets a lot of attention from the trainer and we've seen a lot of progress with his behavior and tricks. If you're thinking about getting some training for your pup, I would recommend petsmart, they're worth it. read more

LOST MY PETS ASHES!!! Yes, lost my pets ashes! I lost my mind...the "manager" Erin Lewis, terrible human being, she refused to talk to me when I came in and literally ran to the back and hid. The front desk lady, Phoebe, did the opposite of what you would expect after being thrown under the bus by her boss. This lady actually starts giving me attitude, like I'm the one who was to blame. This was this most ridiculous thing I have ever seen/been a part of. It's clear that this place has zero direction and even less accountability. I usually don't request a specific groomer for my dog, because they all seem to do pretty well. Marc does an especially good job - I tend to get the most compliments after he has groomed my dog. The only reason Petsmart grooming didn't get 5 stars was that they tend to get lazy on the nail clipping. I've been a professional groomer in the past, so I know when I'm looking at nails that weren't clipped properly. A lot of times they'll just "tip" the nails when they really could/should go a little farther back. Also, I was taking my dog in frequently - every 6 weeks - so I wasn't really paying attention to her nails between groomings. Then one day I noticed that one of her dew claws had grown all the way around in a circle. The other one was totally fine, so basically it was just a situation where that same one had been missed a few times in a row. Ever since then, I always check her nails as soon as I bring her home, and go over any that need additional clipping. Overall, I'd recommend Petsmart Grooming - it's nice that you can see dogs getting groomed, so you can make sure they treat the animals the way you want yours treated. read more

The absolute worst girls working in the grooming area on 12/21/18 around 11am. Literally came in asking if there's availability for a nail trim and was told it'll be a couple of minutes. I understood and sat outside with my pug for a while, looked back and saw two girls texting on their phone and only one working. The most unprofessional pet smart employees I have literally came across. I never post on yelp about anything but I sure had to this time around. As a manager myself, I suggest that perhaps it's time for an employee training session for those employees in the grooming department. I sure wouldn't want to leave my loved one where they don't get the full attention because the workers are too busy texting. read more

I go here when I don't feel like going to Walmart or when I need something that Walmart doesn't carry. It is easy to get in and out in a few minutes if you know what you are looking for. However, if you don't, prepare to be overwhelmed, especially when it comes to dog food. Why are there so many brands? I had the hardest time finding a simple bag of treats because everything is organized by brand, I had to walk up and down three aisles and finally just grabbed a bag and headed out as fast as I could. I prefer not to because their prices are kind of high but they have what I need 80% of the time. I wish their small animal offerings were a little more complete but in a pinch, it works. Every time I go here the cashier always says hello when I walk in and chit chats with me a little bit. He is super friendly and the staff is helpful when looking for products. I haven't tried the groomers out yet but will revisit this review when I do. read more

This review is primarily for the wonderful service I got today. My daughter and her friend wanted to buy a class pet and did some pricing and research to see how much it would cost to get a gold fish. Not knowing anything about what size tank, equipment and product needed I had to rely on a very knowledgeable and helpful sales assistant Amanda. It's rare I go into a store and feel like the person helping me has any particular interest in being there and only does the bare minimum, but I felt our project was her project and she stayed with us, not rushing at all, offering helpful advice all along the way. She was able to guide us toward trying a Beta as they didn't need a pump nor such a large tank. We wanted to keep this simple for a 3rd grade class and their teacher. She took us to each area of what we would need to set it up and gave us clear instructions on how to use the heater and feed the fish, changing the water, etc. I don't go to Petsmart a lot since it's out of the way but I would trust Amanda if I ever have a pet project or questions. She's a hard worker who enjoys what she does and is eager to help. I would have been lost without her help today, so thanks so much!! read more

We had little interaction with staff except at the register. The place was clean and nice. They had a small section of cats, fish, lizards and rodents. I came looking for some dog treats. They have a fairly wide variety including holiday treats. I bought catnip from Amazon for less than what they charge here, but their dog treats were cheaper here. read more

I always give lots of feedback because I don't expect them to be mind readers. At pickup they always show concern that they have met my expectations. The employees are always friendly and interact with my dog. Including treats at the register. DON'T EVER BUY AN ANIMAL FROM PETSMART. I had always heard the rumors about buying from a pet shop, but I thought since PetSmart was such a large brand that I'd give it a chance... HUGE MISTAKE! We purchased a guinea pig three weeks ago. A few days ago he started acting weird so I took him to the vet. He had a severe Upper Respiratory Infection and RING WORM. If I had waited a day or two longer, he would have DIED! Not to mention the lovely vet bill I had to pay. Lucky for PetSmart they aren't liable because they have a WONDERFUL 14-DAY GUARANTEE. What type of company has a 14-day guarantee on an animal knowing it takes at least two weeks for signs of anything wrong to show up??? I used to love this store. I was not at all satisfied with my purchase of a betta fish from pet smart. first of all, they had a big sign out front that said 30 day warranty on your fish. they only have it for 14 days. yes fish die, and i still had a couple days of my warranty left, so i called and explained the situation, and they offered to do water testing and give me a new fish. when i walked in and told them i had called and explained the situation, i was not offered any testing. they gave me another fish and a new warranty, but 3 days later the fish died again. my friend and i both purchased two of the same fish from here and did exactly the same thing, and hers is still alive. please do not buy your fish from here. i think they are sick. read more

I took my dog Rico 1/22/15 to get groomed. I dropped him off with the sweetest young ladies, but I received a call from a man telling me it was time to pick him up. When I got there he mentioned that Rico was giving him a hard time with his nails. I figured it was just his nerves and didn't think twice about it. I got home and Rico kept acting funny... Yelping randomly and licking his paws. When I went to look I saw a lesion which was possible cause by the nail grinder (I posted a picture for everyone to see). They almost killed my dog when they decided to go ahead with the spay surgery after realizing she had begun her first heat, after we had specifically directed them not to if this situation occurred because our dog has a tendency to bleed copiously even with the smallest cuts and scratches. And going into heat literally causes blood to rush in and flood the area of the surgery. Needless to say they couldn't stop the bleeding. And after four hours of waiting in the store after the scheduled pick up time, during which NOBODY, came to explain what was going on and when we asked they evaded the questions and even got annoyed that we would ask again where our dog was. My girlfriend at the time, who I still share the dog with was panicking and the staff got an attitude when I asked what the deal was. Finally after opening her back up and bumbling around in her again, likely worsening the issue, they gave up and released our dying dog to us with the instruction to take her to a QUALIFIED animal hospital. Saving our dogs life cost over $1300. read more

Absolutely the WORST grooming experience my dog and I have gone through. Solomon, my pup, is a Pit mix so his short hair rarely needs professional grooming and I enjoy caring for him at home myself. However, I prefer his nail trimming to be done by a professional. I took him to this Petsmart because my usual groomer had left town and had to find a new one. Petsmart seemed fine, I had shopped there many times and didn't think the grooming services could be so bad. Boy, was I wrong! Solomon has always been terrible with crates/cages, and so I was sure to tel the groomer. My impression was that they would not force him to go in a crate. Hours after dropping him off, I got q call saying that an incident had happened. They said they struggled with putting my dog in a crate, when I specifically told them that it would happen, and my dog had suffered a laceration near his eyes. They asked my permission to take him to the vet for treatment. When I got there, the groomers coldly pointed me to the vet area without apologizing or having any remorse for what happened. The vet told me it was q minor cut, but still required cleaning and antibiotic ointment. On top of going through all the unnecessary vet visit they also didn't even do a good job at clipping his nails. They left the dewclaw untouched! Every groomer, and even owner, knows that the dewclaw must be trimmed. It will grow! Absolutely the worst experience with a groomer I've encountered. I've never gone back there and recommend anyone against bringing their dogs at this place. Other groomers may be a bit more expensive but it's worth every penny. PS. Not long after the incident, my friend told me that after taking his standard poodle there for a year, his dog got an ear infection because the groomer had neglected all along to clean and pluck the ear hair! My friend said that he always trusted the groomer had done a great job all around because his poodle's hair cut was exactly what he wanted, but the groomer was leaving our grooming details that are incredibly important for a dog with drop ears, ear cleaning and hair removal! That poor boy has not returned there either. BEWARE of this place! read more

I love PetSmart. They have everything I need for my dog Coco. They are the best when it comes to a variety of food, treats, toys, etc. Oh and we mustn't forget about our cats and fish so if you need products for those animals, you're in luck. I take Coco to the groomers here as well and I'm always confident knowing that she is well taken care of and will look like a new lady once they call me to come pick her up. Good selection, friendly staff. Grooming services are always good. I have a German Shepherd, so I ususally get the nail grinding vs. the clipping, and I think they always do it to a good length. And when I forget to mention it, they always remind me, but they never try to upsell me on services I don't want. Review on two issues with this location - First - the pet groomers - we set an appointment only to show up and were told they did not have time to do what we requested. They could not understand why this upset us but we did leave our dog for the part they were willing to do as she really needed it. When my son picked up our dog, another store employee was in the pet groomer area, talking to one of the pet groomers about how she loves to go in and scare the dogs. Our dog was very subdued following this appointment and the next day and does not like to go into this store. I would have to say if you work at a pet store and you like to scare dogs, maybe you need a job somewhere else. On a separate visit, we had taken her in for a physical @ 8am. When we called @ 2pm to check if they were done, we were told she was not ready. At 6pm we still had not heard that she was finished but we showed up anyway tjust o have the receptionist say the had called at 1pm that she was ready. Not sure where they called but it wasn't our house or anyone's cell. We are not risking a strike three here, we will not return to this location for anything and if you value your dog, I would not take him or her to this groomer. read more
