We boarded our 2 cats here. It was really difficult to find a cat boarding facility around here…read morethat didn't just stick cats in a super tiny cage. We came to check it out first and the staff was really helpful. There was only one other cat there and it wasn't too noisy. However, when we dropped them off, the volume of animals in the facility doubled so the environment was completely different, but it was too late for us to change boarding plans. I don't think it was well suited for cats because cats typically don't get along with other cats and there were several staying there at once, plus 3 that constantly wander around. It's also very noisy there with the dog kennels being nearby. When we picked them up, we were surprised to see 2 small dogs in the cat room as well who were barking and making noise. It's a very stressful environment for cats and we noticed negative behavior changes in ours once we came home. However, the staff was really friendly and sent us photos of our cats upon request while we were out of town. The check-in/checkout process was seamless. They administered oral medication to one of our cats and kept with their feeding schedule. I do wish the facility was more accommodating for cats (quiet area, separate from dogs and other cats), but this isn't a bad option.

I would never consider taking her anywhere else!! We now have a 2nd dog that was rescued at 5 years old and is very skidish, but the staff there has been working with her everytime we go and now she just goes in and loves the staff up. She is a GS so she does bark at other dogs and other people but I don't have any stress leaving them there. I have had to take them to a different location ONCE only because Howl a Day was booked up and it was a last min. trip that had come up. The other place was not as friendly, more expensive, and just over all did not like that place. So I can honestly say I will never take them anywhere else! Keep up the good work Beth and Marti!! :)

When we picked him up they said he "bumped" his head on a piece of wood on the obstacle course and he had a small scratch, but they cleaned it up and said he was fine. We didn't think anything of it, unfortunately assuming they were caring dog lovers like our family and friends. Fred has long, thick black fur so it wasn't obvious to us right away as we were literally dealing with the aftermath of cleaning out our basement from 18 inches of water. A day and a half later we realized Fred was very sensitive to any touching of his head. We immediately took him in to the vet. We were then told by Eastman Animal Hospital that there was no way he bummed his head on wood and that this was from a piece of sheet metal or a large screw. They also informed us that Fred should have been taken to the vet that same day and gotten stitched up. Since it was beyond 24 hours it was too late for stitches and we were in for a long healing process. At this time we went back to Dog Haven and told them what we had found out about Fred. We simply requested payment for the vet bill or a refund for Fred's stay with them. Their response was more astounding than their initial down play of the injury to begin with. The owner said they would refund nothing or help with the cost of Fred's vet bill and proceeded to tell me that I was negligent for not taking Fred to the vet that day with complete arrogance. We have been steadily watching over Fred to ensure he heals properly but when we were told a long healing process we had no idea just how long it would be. We are now 5 weeks from the initial "bump" and we're told he needs surgery. This isn't about the money, this is our dog who is a loving part of our family. Please share this post with your family and friends to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else's dog!

The reptiles and fish's care has increased a ton, and they are always stocking new fish which gives aquarium hobbyist a large selection to choose from. They do keep getting adult turtles in that do not have proper care taken of them so I really wish they'd take the extra 10 minutes to set up a basking spot or stop taking them in at all :( The snakes aren't on frozen thawed which should be changed because it would entice customers to buy and be safer for the animals (most snake keepers want f/t rodents). They are new owners and still have a lot to learn but they are doing great so far for what they know! I definitely recommend them setting up a CO2 system for the large plant and discus tank because the plants in there would do a million times better and would sell so much more. CO2 with a timer is a small cost for the profit they'd get as an investment for the store. I do think they need to try and go above and beyond with the care of their animals to make this store really great, but for now it is an okay pet store, the thing saving it being variety of the fish they stock. I know they are working on display areas so I look forward to seeing those in the future. They also don't seem to be quarantining their fish and I know that the whole system is run from the same water. I have not seen any sick fish as of yet BUT that doesn't mean it won't happen in the future and could wipe out their entire stock if they're not more careful. They also need to be stocking more guppies that are not feeder fish (so many people keep guppies so I'm very surprised they don't.) If they modernized the store and made the appearances better as well as advertised more they could really get their business known. People really appreciate it when stores take great care of their animals and know what they are talking about. I think research should be put into every animal they decide to stock so they know how to care for it and can provide new owners information as well. As an example, Preuss Pets in lansing is an incredible store and if they could rival something even close to that they'd be really doing well. Customer service is pretty good, everyone is friendly and helpful. TLDR: They stock really cool fish, has improved a lot but needs a lot more work. Still recommend!
