ATTENTION Midland, MI dog lovers: Do NOT take your pet to DogHaven Ranch! Took our dog there while…read morewe were cleaning our house from the flood. When we picked him up they said he "bumped" his head on a piece of wood on the obstacle course and he had a small scratch, but they cleaned it up and said he was fine. We didn't think anything of it, unfortunately assuming they were caring dog lovers like our family and friends. Fred has long, thick black fur so it wasn't obvious to us right away as we were literally dealing with the aftermath of cleaning out our basement from 18 inches of water. A day and a half later we realized Fred was very sensitive to any touching of his head. We immediately took him in to the vet. We were then told by Eastman Animal Hospital that there was no way he bummed his head on wood and that this was from a piece of sheet metal or a large screw. They also informed us that Fred should have been taken to the vet that same day and gotten stitched up. Since it was beyond 24 hours it was too late for stitches and we were in for a long healing process. At this time we went back to Dog Haven and told them what we had found out about Fred. We simply requested payment for the vet bill or a refund for Fred's stay with them. Their response was more astounding than their initial down play of the injury to begin with. The owner said they would refund nothing or help with the cost of Fred's vet bill and proceeded to tell me that I was negligent for not taking Fred to the vet that day with complete arrogance. We have been steadily watching over Fred to ensure he heals properly but when we were told a long healing process we had no idea just how long it would be. We are now 5 weeks from the initial "bump" and we're told he needs surgery. This isn't about the money, this is our dog who is a loving part of our family. Please share this post with your family and friends to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else's dog!

I have been taking my Shih tsu here without any issues. I…read morealso have a Beagle/ Bassett that can have a little attitude with me when I do her nails but is generally better with a groomer. I also have a beagle I can do all grooming myself at home. So I do bathing, nails, ears, some hair trimming around eyes when necessary, inside glands, etc, Lizzie had a second appt for an Express wash ( nail cutting, and glands included)., When we arrived they said they had been calling all day to cancel. They had no one to do the appt. I asked what number they called? She said the one on the card. She pulled out a card and read a number I never heard of. There was no card for Lizzie so we started a new card. She said she also facebooked me which isn't possible as my acct is locked up tighter than San Quentin unless I friend you. So.. we make another appt and I show up. The girl working was suprised to see me. She didn't have us on the books but agreed to do Lizzie. We got home and Liz dragged her butt through the driveway and yard so I gloved up and emptied her glands that were extremely full. She was sliding and falling flat on her face on our hardwood floors. Her nails were long. I called to find out if they were trimmed at all and was assured they were. I said they were too long. They said they weee done. I waited a week and returned. I explained the situation to a really nice girl working there. I told her I can do the glands even though I paid to have them done. But I would next time like the nails cut shorter so she can walk. Sonya can out very upset. ( Owner). She was not happy. She explained that this was one weeks growth. Her nails need to be cut every 3 weeks. ( my appointments are every 4 weeks). She said that it is a compounded problem because Lizzie is obese. This is very true and I explained that we are working on another medication for her thyroid with our vet. This poor girl eats less than our cat. She continued to cut and cut one too short and it bled and she said " see.. that's what happens!" I apologized to Sonja and said I didn't come to upset you and I'm more than willing to pay you $5 to trim her one weeks growth. Obviously you are upset with me. I just need my dog to be able to walk without sliding and wiping out all over the floor. She slid down the stair on her face. She was short, curt and almost shoved me out. I will be suprised if I don't have my next appointments cancelled. Before this we were extremely pleased and refereed many people and new people to Midland to Zach's. I funny when I as a customer felt as though I was calming the owner. lol.

The Nascar of nail trims by a caring, friendly team. If you need a pit stop style, fast, walk in…read morenail trim and your pup has solid nerves, this is a great place. It's only $5 and they do it right there in the lobby with you. My two were in and out in 5 minutes with no problems. A tiny detour in our day. That said, if your dog puts on a show for you, and is calmer in a back room on a grooming table, or is easily distracted by a busy lobby, because dog, then this may not be a good fit with regard to walk in nail trims. Other things to know - the bathhouse/ groomery is located in the back of some commercial buildings, adjacent to an apartment complex. The city has lost it's mind, and refuses to allow any new sign-age for businesses and there are some very tall thick hedges that obscure any view of the place so it is hard to find but it IS there. Just drive around to the right or better yet park and walk.
