I came into the store to get food for my cat, and unfortunately, I left feeling very disappointed. they call the manager to the front. Her name was( Meg.) very unprofessional..! I come here once a month. Maybe I usually go to Lawrenceburg, New Jersey location which I love. They are very friendly.. are the Bensalem location. I love that place as well. Very disappointed. On top of that, the manager was not knowledgeable about the store's coupons and promotions and did not provide good customer service. I was expecting help and guidance, but instead I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. The way that she was talking to me. It was especially sad to see this kind of attitude in a place that is supposed to care about animals. I hope the store takes this feedback seriously and provides better training in animal nutrition, coupons/promotions, and customer service. read more

Absolutely awful place. Pets Plus Natural is filthy. The store is dirty, cages look neglected, and the whole environment feels completely unhygienic. It's shocking that animals are kept in conditions like that--many looked stressed and poorly cared for. It honestly made my stomach turn. On top of that, the way staff are treated is disgusting. Employees are clearly overworked, disrespected, and spoken to like they don't matter at all. You can feel the tension the second you walk in. No one should be treated like that, especially in a place that claims to care about animals. If they don't care about basic cleanliness, animal welfare, or even their own staff, that says everything you need to know. I would never support this business again and strongly suggest others stay far away. read more

Used to come here a lot to get supplies for my rabbit. I actually bought both of my rabbits here. Unfortunately upon coming in for the first time in a while, we noticed 2 lop bunnies that were in an enclosure meant for ferrets and rats. The enclosure is far too small for a rabbit, even for a pet store. There had also been times where water bottles were empty, but employees carried on with other tasks before taking care of the animals that depend on them. Personally after seeing the poor maintenance of rabbits here, we will probably not be coming back. read more

If you want a healthy pup, look elsewhere. The poor pup we ended up taking home was covered in his own pee, and his room was filthy. We were verbally told he didn't have worms, and that if he did, the store would cover treatment. The puppy had consistent diarrhea upon coming home, and was positive for whipworm and giardia. After asking about them covering it, I was told they would "call me right back after they speak to their manager". No response at all, over a week after his treatment was complete and money spent treating what they should have treated before selling, I was told they will not cover anything. For the sake of the health of the puppies you think they would at least test and treat worms, however they do not. They seem to only care about to profit, not the animals. Terrible business practices, and frankly I am disgusted. read more

Their staffing quality has been slowly but surely deteriorating over the years and the generalized knowledge of the animals that they care for seems to be relatively minimal considering their profession. As a long standing customer, for YEARS, the way I was treated here was despicable. The store apparently does not have a mask policy, although, I have worn one every single time I've been in the store since the pandemic. Tonight, I forgot it at home and didn't have one. Had I been stopped at the door and turned away- fine. Have to respect that. But, to be given the crickets and then YELLED AT by the employee who handed them to me, causing a scene, was total harassment and uncalled for. She asked if I had one, I told her I didn't and asked if she had an extra one. To which, she said no and asked what kind of crickets I wanted and how many I needed. She hands me the crickets and says " next time, you need to wear a mask" I smile and say "Okay. thank you. Have a nice night." as I am walking away, she YELLS "YOU NEED TO WEAR A MASK NEXT TIME YOU ARE IN THIS STORE!!" I turn to her and ask, calmly, "Is there a reason you are yelling at me?" she replies, "because you are acting like you can't hear me!" "by, saying thank you and leaving the store?" As the stand-in manager, tall guy, wearing an extremely loose bandana half way falling off his face as a face mask, approached me at checkout after being berated by his employee, to FURTHER tell me I needed to wear a mask next time I'm in the store. As if I didn't hear that from his yelling employee? I explained he didn't need to worry about a next time, because I wouldn't be back. No apology, even after witnessing his employee just yell at me after handing me crickets. This guy has seen me and my family shop here at LEAST, 30 times in the past. We are always spending money here. Such a shame how this store is ran. I have been to the Bensalem location multiple times and I have always been treated better, I just continued to come here because they are closest to our house. Now I know why people travel far just to be treated with basic human dignity. This pandemic has brung out the ugly in so many people, and they need to understand it is loyal customers like myself, that continue to come in, and round up our change and adopt the animals- that keep them in business. You are not doing any favors to the public, you are providing a service. And nowhere in your employment contract does it say to harass and berate customers. Very disgusting read more

Seems like a wonderful pet supply store with a focus on natural products. They have neat pets to look at and to purchase. They have aquarium supplies too. They have a two headed turtle. Previously they sold puppies. They recently decided to only offer puppy adoptions from rescue and shelter. This is wonderful. There are even veterinary services in the store. read more

My experience here overall was not a very good one there was this girl that was trying to help me out so much and she did she was super nice I wish I could have remember her name but I am yeah and then Thursday I think it was the manager it was a guy he was like the rudest person in the world I kept my composure because my kids were with me or else I would have said something to him. It's not my fault that you are unhappy of what you do because that's what you chose to do that's not my fault so take it out on somebody else Mr. manager. read more

I adopted 4 out of 6 of my pet rats here, I don't think I'll go anywhere else to get my rats when I want to adopt another one! The feeders are treated just like the fancy's. There in great health too. I adopted 3 feeders from here and there my sweetest rats. And the worker named katlyn is amazing I'm not sure if I spelled her name right but if your going there to ask for a pet rat ask for her! If I were you I'd check the feeders first there the ones who will be extremely cuddly and lovable. Also all there feeders are born and raised there so if you get one you should get to because they'd already would be comfortable with each other! Also the worker katlyn also helped me with what foods are best for them and what toys they like the most! Today a second bunny died. In emergency we were said he had an ear infection along with abscess. Infection has reached his brain and that lead to head tilt. As vet said that puts animal into critical condition. Bunny was dying on our hands and we had to euthanize him. I'd like to emphasize that both bunnies have been never taken out of home, or fed with anything except if what was sold to us in petstore. As both vets said, we got them sick from store. And this is painful what we went through. I would strongly suggest anybody who decide to get a bunny not to get it from pets plus. You might consider adoption from shelter or certified breeder. read more

Been coming here since I was a kid! I love how clean this pet store is. Everything is extremely organized, the staff is friendly, and it doesn't stink! They manage to keep reptiles, birds, dogs, cats, fish, rodents, even bugs, and somehow it doesn't smell offensive like most pet stores. Their selection is great. Tons of pet food to choose from for all types of animals. While I don't necessarily agree with the whole selling puppies/kittens thing, their animals at least look healthy and happy. I am in here enough to know that the animals they do keep are never there for long (sold!), so that it kind of nice. Their fish selection is nice, although I wish the expertise on certain types was a bit better. Prices tend to be a little high here, but I feel like it's worth it just to deal with a clean store and friendly staff. There is a wonderfully charming man with an accent who has been there since I was a kid. He seems to know everything about everything. Very knowledgeable and personable. All of the staff are very nice. I highly recommend checking this place out. Visit their giant old tortoise in the back of the reptile section. It's huge! read more

I will never go there again! Adopted a puppy (a few hundred dollars more than every other rescue around) in February this year. She had to stay there for a little over 2 weeks because she was sick. Seems like every dog there is... no one ever called to update us on how she was doing. We had to call every time to see if she was cleared to go home. We'd stop by almost every day to visit. The guy running it was very unfriendly, never smiled or anything. Never updated on how she was doing. After we finally brought her home I had scheduled (with manager) to drop her off for her week vet check and rabies shot, and was told we could set up a date for her spay after that. So I was scheduled to drop her off the night before the vet check. No one was aware we were coming because he told no one. Also, no one bothered to tell us that the vet appt for the next day was canceled. So wasted trip. The next vet visit ended up being during a snow storm. I had to call and see if it was cancelled or not, because once again no one called. Finally the third time we went to drop her off the night before, and once again no one knew we were dropping her off. He was off that day (go figure). The other employees were annoyed and said that he has no communication with them. They had to call and make sure she was supposed to be dropped off, which she was. So the next day after work I go to pick her up, no call saying if she was ready or not. I saw the dogs being dropped back off, so I knew she had just gotten back. When I saw her my mouth almost dropped to the floor. She was extremely skinny and shaking. I'm panicking like what happened to my dog, she was healthy when we dropped her off and it was just a rabies shot/vet check. I sat on the floor with her and I see that she got spayed. NO ONE TOLD ME OR ASKED IF THAT WAS OK TO DO THAT DAY!!! I'M SORRY BUT IF MY DOG IS HAVING SURGERY, I SHOULD BE AWARE OF IT!!!! Needless to say, I was almost in tears. We got no aftercare instructions. Were never told if we need to come get the staples out. I called their vet, where the the receptionist gave me an attitude too. I told her I don't have any instructions or anything. I said no one even told me she was getting spayed. She said "is that a problem?" Um yes... it is. I should know when my dog is having surgery. Anyways, she said we have to take her back to get the stitches out. We kept her as calm as is possible for a puppy. No jumping, no running. She never licked the stitches or anything, yet they all kept popping out shortly after surgery. It wasn't stitched right, the 2 pieces of skin were not lined up correctly before stitching. She got an open wound that got infected and we had to take her to our vet and pay out of pocket to get the hack job fixed. Our vet stapled it and she was fine in a few days. Our vet said they probably schedule too many spay/neuters in one day that they rush. I'm sorry but if you can't do it right you should not be doing it at all. On top of that, pets plus feeds them food that we could only find at their store. Go figure. I will NEVER give that place a dime again!!! The only redeeming thing about that place was the one employee Rosie. She was great, and our puppy loved her. If I could give zero stars, I most definitely would. I will never set foot in there again or give them a dime, and if you are looking to adopt I HIGHLY suggest that you go elsewhere. Sorry for the long rant. But they suck. At least my dog didn't die, which seems to happen a lot looking at the reviews... read more

This location is absolutely disgusting. I had my baby ball python for 9 months before she passed away of a parasite that killed her. Ball Pythons are meant to live for up to 20 years which is what we prepared for and were set on her lifespan being. Her death was unexpected by a long shot so one can imagine the immense emotional pain we are experiencing as her care-takers. She had neurological damage (meaning brain damage) and we found her almost dead in her cave. We did everything right and followed the guidelines to a t. This pet store did something wrong in their care whether it have been through the breeder or the care before we adopted her. They show little to no care of the animals when handling them or handing them off to the customer. They are all rude with horrendously unhelpful attitudes. The staff was unable to offer any information, even on her feeding schedule and what she ate or what to feed her. This place is disgusting and should be shut down for their incredibly unpleasant, unprofessional, and unhelpful service. Not only that but they should be sued by anyone to have ever adopted from their store for lack of knowledge and care to the animals and customers. read more

The place is great! I only have one problem with it: The puppies look very uncomfortable in their living conditions, and it pains me to see them walking on such bad floors. They are so happy to see people and play with them, but they look absolutely miserable when they go back. Please fix this, and the rest will be golden. They also need larger living conditions as well; it's not good for them to be in such small cages. However, the rest of the place is great. I've gone here since I was a kid, and was very upset their Tuccan died. But, I love the place all the same. Just fix the puppies' conditions, and the rest is perfect! read more

Update: I was back in this store a few weeks ago and the geckos seemed much better cared for and much healthier. I appreciate that it seems my concerns were taken seriously and followed up with. I have mixed reviews on this store. The good: Puppy kennels are always clean and the puppies always look very happy and healthy. I was very happy when you switched over to a rescue store. Most of the other animals look well cared for and happy as well. The cages, habitats and tanks are usually very clean and set up well for the type of animal. The staff is very friendly and seems knowledgeable about the animals and products they sell. We bought a bunny from here and she is very social, active, healthy and sweet. We have been very happy with her and thank the store for taking such good care of her before we brought her home. The bad: We bought a feeder mouse for our snake, and it died before we even made it home (only about a 15 minute drive). I called the store and they said they would exchange it, but sadly the next mouse didn't look very healthy either and we decided to wait a couple hours to feed it to our snake. We put the mouse in a separate aquarium with mouse food and a bottle of water, and it died later that night. The leopard geckos at this location look very unhealthy. Their tails are very thin (the tails on these geckos should be very fat), the geckos are extremely lethargic and some are having difficulty with their shed. A few were asleep in their water which is very unusual. I suspect "stick tail" disease, which is extremely contagious to all geckos in the tank, and is fatal. I tried telling one of the employees but he didn't seem concerned, and there was no manager available to speak with. I hope you guys can look further into this. read more

got a bunny from them may 30th and on sunday june 19th the poor guy ended up having 2 seizures and passed away this is not a first i know other people who had gotten bunnies here in the past that seized after only weeks/months of having them. also before you ask, no it is not that i "don't know how to take proper care of the animal" i had previously owned a bunny and never had any issues beside the one i had gotten here. the place is not clean and i have also heard of others adopting dogs from here that obviously are not taken care of that are very sick. if i could give this place 0 stars that's what i'd rate them. read more

Fine store. I was a little disturbed to see a massive amount of guinea pigs be put into a box and carted out by (who I'm guessing was) their distributor. I asked the man where they were going and he said "They're sick so they're going back to my place." I said "To the vet?" He said "Yeah sure...all guinea pigs live forever." and laughed. I know the pet industry is a dirty business, but this was a little much for a random customer, don't you think? read more

I bought my naked fancy rat here. He clearly was not held or had space. Especially with those tanks! They have a higher chance of catching diseases and being ill. Same thing with hamsters, mice, etc. they need the ventilation, the top isn't enough. My poor babies nails were much more sharp then what they should've been, especially since he has no hair, he's more likely to scratch himself when he grooms himself!!! I wanted to Bring my rats here due to not being able to keep them all and having trouble looking for a home. (Nue and Bagel had a litter together with a bunch of cute babies).I kept getting told to call next week. I kept looking around for homes. When I came across a former employer, who told me that Ryan would take litters and have them as feeder rats. This made me really uncomfortable. I believe you should take into consideration that those people who surrendered didn't want them to be feeder rats. They wanted them to have a good home, and that home should not be a Snakes belly. This location for dogs is not the best. Today I was at the store shopping for my bearded dragon meanwhile I was taking a look at the puppies there. It's really sad how they take care of they're animals and they're customers to start the dog peed and poo in the little 4x4 enclosure but the pee was pretty dark in my opinion and the poo was legit water and light in color the worst part is I went to a worker near by and she told me she would have someone look at it but then continued to play on her phone and the cage was never cleaned not to mention the cage next to it had two dogs with more than 3 piles of poo in there. This is a very sad experience for the consumer and animals I feel really bad. I would not waste 695 of my hard earned dollars for a dog that would more than likely pass away within two years please look elsewhere for your animals and please pets plus train your employees. This isn't even worth a one star. read more

Not sure why so many reviews are so negative, because my experience adopting from Pets Plus Natural was great! We got Oliver about a year ago, and it was the best decision ever! I liked how there were private cubbies to take the cats and kittens to play with them and make sure they are a good fit. The process took a while, but I appreciated how thorough they were in calling our references and landlord. I'm not exactly sure which organization the kittens came from, but they advertise only supporting rescues which is great. The only thing I found odd was that Oliver's paperwork had no mention of testing for FeLV or FIV. I would hope all cats are combo tested before moving them to a communal living space- maybe something to consider doing (or maybe it was done but not included in our paperwork). Regardless, a year later we could not be happier with our addition to our family and are thankful Pets Plus Natural helped us in the process! read more

Upon going here in the summer I noticed water and condensation covering the whole vent along the fish supply area so much that you can see the water dripping down on all the stuff for sale below. You can see the mold growing out of the vents not to mention as I walked up to the employee to tell her about the water dripping a long time employee had come to visit after he has just had a lung transplant. I mentioned it to the employees that there was mold on a few occasions but I just went in yesterday after not going in for months and mold was still growing all along the vents. I'm not giving you 5 stars because of one specific thing. Wayne. He's an absolute genius when it comes to anything fish related. Especially saltwater. He's beyond helpful, knowledgeable and friendly but his hours have been cut so much that I have a hard time knowing when he's going to be in and it's making it much harder to finish setting up my 500 gallon reef tank. I've spent a lot of money on my two other salt tanks and I'm trying to finish my 500 but without Wayne and his unlimited knowledge I'm coming to a screeching halt. Jess , Julie and Jim are also extremely good at what they do but Wayne has what I need to finish my build and buy my livestock when I'm ready. If Wayne goes I'm gonna go wherever he does in order to get this reef completed and started. It's a shame that he seems to be getting slowly pushed off to the side. There's only 4 people that make that location and that's Jess, Julie, Jim and the main one is Wayne. It would be a huge mistake to let him go. read more

Dirty run-down store, rude staff (all young, lazy, kids with an attitude and sarcasm who have no idea what they are doing), and the poor dogs... I will through each problem I have with this store. The whole store is dirty and run down. I went into the bathroom and the toilet wasn't even mounted into the ground so when I sat down the whole toilet almost leaned forward and fell. (So much more but I won't go into detail, this is more about the animals). The kids working here are lazy and rude. When I asked to look at a specific dog this kids answer was, "ugh that's all the way around the corner. Can't you look at one closer?" I then proceeded to tell him I was looking for my potential dog here and that I'm not just looking at random dogs. He then brought the dog out and said "here look at it... Oh I thought you said you wanted to "look" at it, not actually hold it." at this point I was so sick of the sarcasm and rude attitude that I walked out of the store and left. As for the cleanliness of the cages... All dogs were sitting in their cages in their poop, (and their cages were way too small for them, they're in cages the size that mice/guinea pigs/rats are in), and they just smelled dirty. I've had a few friends gets dogs here and although they love their dog, they said they're never come back here because they all came home sick with worms. I hope this place shuts down. It's run down, dirty, with a rude staff who poorly treats the dogs and probably the other animals as well. Just this experience alone makes me never want to give them my business, so I'm going to go to a shelter or breeder. Thank you Pets Plus for showing me what a horrible place you really are before I gave you my business. read more

I recently purchased on July 20, 2013, a 3.5 month old puppy from this store, only because this beautiful baby stole my heart. Well, I learned a hard lesson. I bought the puppy home around 10pm that nite, the puppy became violently ill and I had to rush her to the emergency vet early the next morning. That cost me $600. The puppy showed some small signs of improvement so I'm thinking everything is a ok. So not true!! I had to take the puppy the next day to my local vet who diagnosed the poor baby with parvovirus. Yes, PARVOVIRUS!! My bill from my local vet totaled over $1100. of which Pets Plus is not willing to refund me a nickel. Pets Plus of Jenkintown gave me paperwork swearing that the puppy was innoculated against infectious diaseases including parvo. I am very sad to say that my puppy died the next day-two days after I bought him. He became so weak he went into sugar shock and could hardly hold up his head. I am writing this to warn others - DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE OR ANY OF ITS BRANCHES IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM. ADOPT YOUR PET FROM A REPUTABLE RESCUE OR ANIMAL SHELTER SUCH AS THE PHILADELPHIA SPCA. I volunteered for the Philly SPCA for a number of years and they are very good. The only reason I did not go there is because I have since relocated from Philly and is too far for me to travel. Also, Pets Plus had the audacity to not let my elderly mother use the bathroom even though she spends at least $300. a week there on her cats' food and supplies. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY AND NEVER ALLOWED TO RE-OPEN. I only have justice because I believe in God and God knows they did me wrong. read more
