Had an amazing lunch here with my friends. Food was delicious and the experience of this place is absolutely beautiful. We didn't have to wait long for our food.

When I fly into a town, usually hungry, I often opt for something cuisine I'm familiar with. Checked out Yelp and decided to give Petra house a try...Jordanian cuisine isn't an option I'm faced with often... more than anything the adventure and unknown lead me here. Very immersive and beautiful decor! Never seen a commitment to showing their culture via decor like this in a very long time. I ordered: nothing I've ever had but looks sort of familiar. 1) Sambousak- reminded me of Samosas in Indian cuisine...a little more crunchy and a hint of a flavor I'm not familiar with...still very good. 2) Mixed Safiha - round bread, topped with something different (meat, cheese, shattah, spinach, and zaatar). The various combinations were good...my only comment was the bread part was very inconsistent..some of the bread was fluffy and soft while others were the chewiness of a bagel or English muffin. I preferred the softer bread, lol 3) katayef - loved the crunchiness of the pie like pastry, the ice cream was good and the sauces rounded out the sweetness...reminding you, yes this is a dessert. I ordered a mango yogurt drink that was smooth and sweet. Overall, I got what I wanted a food adventure of deliciousness. My only comment is the uneven service...I wasn't offered water, I guess they wanted me to ask?! And the person didn't come around very often of course there was no reason. Mostly, the server wasn't very welcoming to me. They did their job well otherwise. I'll come back for the unique cuisine but not the service.

Entering this restaurant is like going to the Middle East. It is nicely decorated, middle eastern music. The place is big with lots of tables and a section where you can sit on the floor taking in the complete experience. We went on a Tuesday evening and since it was a slow night we were able to choose the table we wanted to sit. We chose traditional middle eastern floor seating. We ordered the Baba Ghanoush, the Salmon Kebab Plate, Tabouli Salad and the Jordanian Signature dish Maqluba with chicken. Everything was so delicious!! I can't say which was our favorite. The explosion of flavors in each dish was extraordinary. The Maqluba chicken sauce has a touch of spicy (just in case you can't handle spicy foods). We didn't have space for dessert so we can't tell you about that. They do offer arabic iced and hot teas as well as Turkish Coffee. Definitely a place to keep coming for good food. Feels like they are cooking you in a home. The perfect touch is felt in each dish. Ambiance is perfect for groups or date night. Great service.

First time here and we love it super good highly recommended very friendly place

My partner and I happened to come across this place a few months ago when he moved into the area- and I'm so glad we did! The food is super delicious. This time around we got the mezza for two which is a shareable platter with a little bit of everything from the appetizer menu. The service is great. They start you off with a rose water handwashing at your table before you look through the menus. The staff is super polite and receptive to questions about dishes. The area we ate at was on the floor in the more traditional seating and it was great! We had the option to close the curtain to make the dining experience more private if we had wanted to. We've been back twice already'! Looking forward to a third time and more. :)

Please change the quality of your desserts. Service was good! Main dishes where good as well, but desserts was so so bad more like they defrosted and added some syrup with dash a pistachio.

A quick discussion about where to eat some Mediterranean food given the time and other plans pointed us at Petra House. That was one of the best decisions of the month. Petra House is a very traditional and you have the option of sitting at a typical restaurant booth, or in a more traditional seating on low couches. We opted for the booth. Prior to the meal, your server brings a huge jug of water and the traditional hand washing bowl, in Middle Eastern tradition. We ordered traditional Middle Eastern tea, which was pre-sweetened and minty. Note that you CAN get it unsweetened if you ask. We then started with an order of baba ghanouj with pita, while we contemplated the main meal. My partner opted for a Petra House salad with lamb added, and I ordered the Ouzi made with lamb and served with a side of lentil soup. The service was magnificent. We felt like honored guests at all times. The meal absolutely did not disappoint. If you love Mediterranean food, and want to stay on the north side of the river, this is absolutely the best choice around. Very highly recommended.

So happy to add "I Heart Gyro" to our list of Mediterranean restaurants!…read moreIt's easy to get to, the dining room is medium sized w/booths, it's clean inside & out and the food is delicious! Plus, I love going into places where the employees seem genuinely happy to work there & this place is no different. We were greeted warmly, questions were answered & in spite of ordering at a counter, they didn't forget about us. They brought drinks & silverware to the table, then checked up on us a couple of times during our meal. They have a menu with several choices, the portions were generous enough that we had plenty to bring home for another meal. If you're into "clean eating", this is a great example. The food and sauces aren't OVERLY salted or seasoned, but just right. You can taste the actual flavors of the food, which was so refreshing! I've included pictures of their current menu & the dishes we ordered. We're definitely looking forward to visiting again!

This time it was just chicken strips and I felt that they barely grilled them. There wasn't much charred taste to them. I tried the plain garlic sauce this time. it was OK, but I really liked the spicy garlic sauce that I got in my the first Gyro better. It was more flavorful.. I also got a small order of their fries. Must say the fries were pretty good. However, at over $17 ane charge ,before tip, I don't feel it's worth that much. I noticed us when you look at the photos from the reviews some of the chicken chunks look more grilled and charred than other times.. I guess it depends on who works there. Too bad they're pretty inconsistent. That's exactly why I will not be coming back.

Reviewing the menu, there were lots of yummy things to choose from but ultimately we both could not resist the Lamb shank. I'm sad I didn't take a picture of it. It was so tender and delicious. It came with perfect Basmati rice and a side of eggplant stew that was exquisite! I've never had eggplant stew and it was luscious. I dream to about it all night long. It was quiet, comfortable, music was great; songs we all know but with native instruments and flare. We had house red wine - not a big selection of alcohol, which is fine the food is and should be the star. Our sever (Sorry my old lady brain forgot his name) but the good looking bald guy(LOL) was nice and personable. It was such a great low key dining experience that just made the day even better. I highly recommend this cute place and we will be back- there are a lot more wonderful food to try!

Ok, I'll be so for real. I haven't had the opportunity to go back here for a little over a year,…read morebut assuming things haven't changed drastically since, I still think about this place. I discovered it when I saw an influencer in Portland gushing about their brunch. Although my schedule didn't allow me to partake in the limited hours brunch, I still wanted to go try it. The decor was nice and gave the whole space a cozy and intimate feeling. My best friend and I shared a couple dishes which I can't fully recall but I know we had lamb and I believe a mezza type platter. Of all the places we ate out at during this trip, this was our favorite. The owner's son was our server and he was really friendly and we talked about how we wished they'd open a branch in Seattle! Still hoping! :p Finally, we got a biscoff cheesecake and I make a very good biscoff cheesecake myself, but my bestie said theirs was better. I will neither agree or disagree with said statement. Anyway, looking forward to the day I get to return for more delicious food!

BEST MEAL IN PORTLAND!!!!!…read more Saw this place randomly while looking for a place to eat after a long flight. It was late and not many places were open. This place was closed but a middle eastern place that serves cheesecake was soo intriguing that i knew i needed to come back. Came back Saturday night and they had no tables and was packed. However, they tried to accommodate us so much. However, the night was in our favor. As we started to order take out, a lady was kind enough to give up her table since she was eating alone. It was a small table for 3 people but the staff was sooo accommodating i have no words. They even gave free dessert to the lady who was kind. Then luck would have it, the table next to us never showed up for their reservation so they gave us that table. Finally, we ordered. Turned out, i also got the last shawarma too. Everything happens for a reason! We also got the Saudi chicken kabsa and cheesecakes. The biggest compliment i can give is when the food came, none of us talked for a good 5-7 mins and just sat there in heaven eating. The flavors were soo unique but yet so familiar. If this is Saudi food, i have been missing out. I need to explore more sub categories of middle eastern cuisine. Best bites in Portland for us and that's all i have to describe our experience. Finally, got the Nutella cheesecake and almond caramel cheesecake. I have to say, Nutella was good but easily a skip compared to almond and caramel. Just get 2 of those and you'll be happy. The cakes itself are light and not heavy. They were great end to a great meal. This is a family owned but family loved business. You can see the love as they serve their guests but you can taste the love too. The people are soo sweet and kind and just want to serve you. Please give your love here, because if i lived in Portland, this would my weekly spot.

That said the food was pretty quick, cooked fresh, and came out steaming. You can see it in the picture. Owner was friendly, it was nice talking with him. I will be back to try more food! I dropped it one star (from a 4.8) because as others mentioned, the cleanliness of the floor. The tables, seats, and all that were fine but it was clear the floors need some attention. Not "tacky" as others mentioned but the corners need a good deep clean. I only noticed because I dropped silverware while dumping my plate so got a closer look when I picked it up. To be fair it was only next to the trash can. Otherwise nothing stood out as anything of concern.
