"Life is too short for tasteless soup" is the motto on their website and hell yeah, the soup at Petit Saigon packs a punch!
This is a tiny little place right near Schmiede Wiedikon with a super limited menu so I skipped it a few times as there are plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood but one day I was craving Vietnamese noodle soup and decided to get a take-away (as a side note: they are called take-away on Yelp but they have plenty of seating space both inside and outside).
I am a big fan of both Pho and Bun Bo Hue with a slight preference of the latter and I am quite picky but I must say, although not super authentic, the Bun Bo Hue at Petit Saigon was one of the best versions I had in a long time. The soup was not super spicy and there were no more "exotic" ingredients like blood pudding or pork knuckle in it but I guess they have to cater to the local crowd.
However, the beef was of good quality and there was plenty of it and their broth was very tasty. In addition, it was all packed nicely and the portion size was decent for the price.
The fact that I wanted to go back the next day to get the exact same thing (& that I was super disappointed that they close on Sundays) says enough! This is definitely highly recommended if you want simple but good Vietnamese noodle soup. read more
