Amidst all the fun we got dinner at Saigon. A meal that was un-pho-gettable. If I mispronounced it would be a pho-paux. Alright now that you've experienced the lows of those terrible puns we can appropriately contrast with the highs of this excellent meal. Everything we got was made exceptionally. The beef noodles were really good. The noodles are great. I slurped them down quite quickly. They were both savory and spicy. My friend who got the shrimp pho said it was, well un-pho-gettable. The vibes, the spirit, and the soul are all there. My other friend got the sated beef with fried rice. It was a bit salty but he loved that about Vietnamese cuisine! The service was also great. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Vietnemise food!

After seeing bun rieu (crab noodle soup) on the menu, I was excited as it's one of my favorite noodle soups! Being in the middle of Europe, I went in with low expectations. The toppings and accompanied veggies and herbs were lacking, but I'd expected it. What I was not expecting was how authentic the flavors were! The broth had that crab and shrimp paste flavors and they even had the authentic soft and creamy crab paste which not too many restaurants get it right. My husband had the bun bo hue, the same dish he had at the other restaurant, Saigon, from 2 nights earlier. He preferred the other restaurant's BBH over at SG. I liked the flavor of the broth at Pho Mai better, but the toppings were better at SG's. Instead of beef shank, Pho Mai used rare beef steak (typically used for rare stead pho). Overall the flavors for both dishes were well done. If they'd just put a little more effort in putting in more toppings (especially for the BBH as it always come with multiple proteins aside from beef slices) it would take this restaurant to another level. But I can understand why they'd cut corners as their menu is quite extensive with many dishes and it seems they're also short-staffed.

This is a tiny little place right near Schmiede Wiedikon with a super limited menu so I skipped it a few times as there are plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood but one day I was craving Vietnamese noodle soup and decided to get a take-away (as a side note: they are called take-away on Yelp but they have plenty of seating space both inside and outside). I am a big fan of both Pho and Bun Bo Hue with a slight preference of the latter and I am quite picky but I must say, although not super authentic, the Bun Bo Hue at Petit Saigon was one of the best versions I had in a long time. The soup was not super spicy and there were no more "exotic" ingredients like blood pudding or pork knuckle in it but I guess they have to cater to the local crowd. However, the beef was of good quality and there was plenty of it and their broth was very tasty. In addition, it was all packed nicely and the portion size was decent for the price. The fact that I wanted to go back the next day to get the exact same thing (& that I was super disappointed that they close on Sundays) says enough! This is definitely highly recommended if you want simple but good Vietnamese noodle soup.
