Hey munchkins! Today we had a lovely day in Zürich. I bought a Texas license plate, went to the top of Zürich and got into an elaborate guessing game about a book my friend bought. Amidst all the fun we got dinner at Saigon. A meal that was un-pho-gettable. If I mispronounced it would be a pho-paux. Alright now that you've experienced the lows of those terrible puns we can appropriately contrast with the highs of this excellent meal. Everything we got was made exceptionally. The beef noodles were really good. The noodles are great. I slurped them down quite quickly. They were both savory and spicy. My friend who got the shrimp pho said it was, well un-pho-gettable. The vibes, the spirit, and the soul are all there. My other friend got the sated beef with fried rice. It was a bit salty but he loved that about Vietnamese cuisine! The service was also great. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Vietnemise food! read more

Decent place with seemingly lots of locals, but not great for groups. - Pho: meh -- Was craving Pho, but it's pretty pricey (~25 CHF) and really sweet for "pho" broth. - Summer rolls were just okay, and the sauce it was served with wasn't quite hoisin but some spicy/sweet mix - Steamed rice rolls were a pass for me, way too oily read more

DELICIOUS. I didn't really have any hopes or expectations but this place blew me away. The prices are steep but I think it's worth it. We ordered the veggie egg rolls, the tofu & water spinach, and my partner had a rice shrimp dish. My only recommendation would be for them to serve more salad and mint (and cucumber if possible) in order to roll the egg rolls in. They speak English, Swiss German, and Vietnamese so ordering was a breeze. No complaints. Also, the serving size is big enough for us to share. We def could have just ordered the appetizer and one main dish to split. Still water ended up being 5 CHF each, which is my only grievance. Our bill came out to be 76 CHF. The prices are higher than I would like even for Zurich. But no complaints on the food. Would def come back. Give this place a try. Does not disappoint! read more

To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for this restaurant based on the pictures I've seen of the food and interior. It screamed "westernized" to me so I was worried that I'd be eating an interpretation of Vietnamese food. I wanted to go elsewhere but we were starving and this was nearby and the other place was too far. My husband & I ordered 2 noodle soups: Bun Bo Hue (Hue spicy beef noodle) and the Hu Tieu Nam Vang (rice noodle soup with seafood and pork) and were immediately shocked to taste such authentic flavors! The broths were oh so flavorful and although they missed some toppings I didn't even care. The bowls weren't exactly 100% true to form but the flavor profiles were 100% authentic and that was more than I'd expected across the pond, in a foreign European country! 25 CHF for a bowl of noodle is expensive even according to NYC standard. But I found that's the average price in Switzerland for lunch. The noodle soup was excellent. Service with a smile. By the time we left the place was packed. No surprise. read more

Too bad this restaurant isn't open on Sundays. I always seem to walk by on Sundays when it's not open. A good place for Vietnamese food. Of course, a bit pricer than what I'm used to in California. But beggars can't be choosers. I think there is also a sister restaurant on Birmendorferstrasse, but I haven't tried it yet. This place can get packed in the evenings, so make reservations and/or arrive early! I've seen them turn customers away on Saturday night due to overcapacity. read more

Never in my life would I imagine spending over $107 dollars for Vietnamese food during lunch. But boy was it worth it. This is probably the best Vietnamese restaurant we have eaten at in Europe (various locations in Germany, various locations in Czech Republic, and Geneva, Switzerland). A nice twist with this restaurant is that it offers pho with waygu, as well as other staple Vietnamese dishes with the waygu beef upgrade (what?!?). I did not go for that option, but it was indicative of the quality of food that was served here. The Vietnamese ice coffee was not served traditionally through the drip method first at your table from which you then pour into a cup of ice, but was extremely good nonetheless. That bun bo hue tho. Oh my word. Excellent. Like other Vietnamese restaurants in Europe, they go light on the fresh veggies that complement the dish, but it is great without. read more

Was not impressed by the food at Saigon. Went with a group of 9 people last night and ordered a bunch of different appetizers and entrees to share. Not even comparing it to Vietnamese restaurants in NYC, it was just not authentic or tasty. The dishes were either flavorless or too salty/too sweet. A bit disappointed despite having low expectations going in. Even the Saigon beer I ordered was nothing special. Thank goodness for the wonderful and fun company that salvaged this dinner for me. We will not be coming here again anytime soon. PS - The 2nd star was for the nice waitress that took care of us for the evening. read more

This is a cozy and casual Vietnamese restaurant. Pho was around 18 CHF and comes with a wider noodle than typical thin rice noodle but the broth was really good. Veggi pho and beef pho can be ordered with beef stock or tofu stock. I though both were rich and very tasty. Also plenty of veggie and meat. Very satisfying especially in cold days. Other non-pho dishes looked good too. Definitely will come back. PS: tofu for pho are fried so if you want raw tofu, you might need to ask for it. read more

I'm from Southern California and so spoiled with great authentic Vietnamese foods there. I have to say this is THE BEST YOU CAN GET in Zürich. Not 100% authentic but 75-90% on everything I tried. I love the service more than the foods. If you live in Switzerland long enough, you would know that the wait staffs are really want to make you happy and not just there to clock in - clock out like other places. After looking at the reviews on this place, I'm not sure if there was a change in ownership or they took the lower ratings to heart to improve - but I'll say this is a fantastically authentic Vietnamese restaurant. The Bun Bo Hue (a benchmark soup, far and above more flavorful and complex to make than Pho) was about as good as I can imagine it can be in Europe. Some of the herbs that are normally served with it were missing but it's Switzerland... they certainly got the broth right, and without any hint of MSG. (A sign they did not cheat with the broth by using powdered BBH bouillon which has become popular) If you get the soup with the Wagyu beef, it's divine. I attached a picture of one of the servings I had. I tried the different appetizer rolls and they were also spot on. I sampled some dishes from my dinner-mates and they were all authentic and well made. This is the best of the three Vietnamese places I've been to in Zurich. A note regarding noise - It's loud outside, naturally since the restaurant is at a busy crossroads. read more

One of the many styles of cuisine that I miss from living in Vancouver. Saigon is a nice restaurant with a large selection of Vietnamese dishes. The Pho is good as are the curries and the prices are quite good. The tea is alright, the seating is bench style at many tables. The staff is friendly, but not that knowledgable about the ingredients in the dishes. If you have a gluten allergy, be careful. Of course Vietnamese is a great cuisine for gluten free - with plenty of rice dishes, but watch out for soya sauces. All in all this is a good restaurant to get you Pho fix. read more

I passed by Sai Gon many times. Today I finally made a stop here and had dinner. Sitting outside, next to the crossroads gives the place a quite vibrant feeling - I imagine a bit like in the streets of Vietnam. Sometimes it's a bit loud though. If you like to sit outside but have it a bit more quiet, sit in front of Swiss Casino. Service was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. The food is awesome, I haven't really had Vietnamese before but I'm definitely going to stop by this place again! For Zurich the prices are ok too. If you like Asian you'll love Sai Gon! read more

I had the duck to go from the buffet style counter. Honestly, I think 19.50 is too expensive for a takeaway dish that comes from a buffet. Even if there was a lot of meat. But I'm more into quality than quantity and I was disappointed. The duck lacked flavour. Almost no spices, no herbs at all, just slices of duck meat in a brown sauce, hardly any vegetables It was my first stop at Saigon but am not very motivated to go back. Most meals don't seem typical Vietnamese to me, Asian yes, but not Vietnamese. I might go back just to try the bánh cun. In case that doesn't taste original I won't be trying more and rather go to Asiaway even if its not that close but in Oerlikon. I only had one dish here but I am already planning for my next visit back here. Really enjoyed the food and think the prices are reasonable (for Zürich) portions were good too. I had the beef with water spinach (I think) and asked them to make it spicy, which they did and it was very good! Cant wait to try more dishes from here! read more

Asian comfort food for reasonable prices, for Zurich (~25-28 / person). Can't give too much praise for the food quality, but it's familiar and what pretty much what you'd expect from mediocre home cooking. The pho is extremely boring but good for those moments when you really crave it. It's been a while since I've had water spinach so I took a chance on the "new" item on the menu - beef with water spinach. I was impressed by the quantity of water spinach they served up. Unfortunately they went a bit overboard on the salt and msg. Still, no regrets for going today... It's one of those, alright-once-in-a-while type of places. read more

Pho here is decent at about 20 CHF per dish. As is common in many Asian restaurants in Europe, they use pasta noodles instead of the traditional ones. That said, it's still a good value for the price for a quick casual dinner. read more

I went on Aug.5th for take out lunch. The service is quick but the food is not worth the 20fr I had to pay. I got the last remains of the chicken curry (no replenishment but the pan scraped out for me) and 4 pieces of coconut shrimp. The shrimps smelled and we're definitely NOT fresh. There were a lot of spices in it so I got the impression this was to cover up. Cannot recommend and will not go back here. read more

This is probably the best pho in Zurich, and it's near all the fun stuff downtown without being too spendy. The service is pretty good (for Zurich). It's usually packed at dinnertime, but if you get there a little early (7:30 say) you can probably get a table right away. read more
