I was looking to get a pair of custom 29er wheels built-up for my fat bike (Charge Cooker Maxi), and I was referred to Pete by a local bike shop here in Rochester. So glad I got that referral, as Pete was extremely prompt in responding to all my questions and ended up building up a killer set of wheels for me. It was a bit of a tricky job, as the bike is not too well known in the states, and we had to rely on the specifications we could dig up online. Pete did some of his own research and double-checking here, and in cases where we needed to verify additional dimensions that weren't clear, he was able to give me some very clear instructions for making some direct measurements on my bike to confirm. As we spec'd out the job, Pete provided several component options from which to choose, with pros and cons to consider, and provided a very simple and clear invoice via Paypal, against which I made an initial down payment to commence the work. Final price was extremely reasonable, and frankly below what I had expected. Once the final wheel build was complete (which included tires), Pete helped me fit the wheels on the bike and make some initial adjustments. Just days later I rode the bike hard in the 40-mile Black Fly Challenge race in the Adirondacks, and the wheels performed flawlessly on the rugged course and were absolutely bomb-proof! In the future, I'm looking to possibly build up some custom, light-weight fat tire wheels, and I'll definitely be going back to Pete. Pete built up a handmade mountain bike wheel set for me using Derby rims. This was my first ever hand built mountain bike wheel set. Up until now, I always bought factory made wheel sets. I discovered that a hand built mountain bike wheel set is definitely superior to a factory built wheel set, particularly when you are spending over $1,000. Pete's workmanship is excellent and when I got my wheels, myself and others remarked on how special these wheels were. Riding on them is a sheer pleasure and the 24 mile ride I usually do felt like there was less rolling resistance due to super light weight components. Pete has really good customer service skills and listened to what I had to say. He always responded to my inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Pete has ordered hub pars for me twice and both times has been very responsive. He placed the order the same day I requested it, and the same day he received the part he had it in the mail to me. Based on this great customer service, and some wheels he had built for others that I know, I had him build a new set of wheels for my mountain bike. I specified Chris King hubs and a set of carbon rims from a small company called Derby. He once again ordered parts right away, periodically updated me on the order status, and began building the wheels as soon as the parts arrived. I told him I had a bike trip coming up, so he went out of his way to get them built ASAP. He also test mounted a set of tires for me to make sure everything went well. How did they turn out? Great! Pete is the guy you want to build your new wheels. I did a lot of research and communicated with 3 or 4 other wheel builders when considering a new wheelset for my Cannondale CAAD 10. Pete was, by far, the most helpful and informative person I spoke with. His many suggestions steered me in the right direction. Those suggestions were spot-on, by the way, as my subsequent research revealed. Pete was always 100% honest in our communications, never trying to "sell" me something, just wanting the best wheelset for my particular use and riding style. Pete's pricing was right in line with the other builders, even a bit lower than some. When the wheels arrived, they were perfectly true and solid. Great road wheels - American Classic RD2218 on bikehubstore lightest, 16-8 rear wheel. 3000 flawless commuting miles so far with stampede pass 700x32 or GP4000Sii 700x28. Note that big tires help wheels live. Pete was willing to do what I asked even when he thought these might not really be strong enough for commuting. read more
