We bought 5 gallons of exterior paint but the color ended up not quite matching our house's original color. Brought back the paint to see if they could help us alt it to match it better. (From lighter yellow to a darker yellow) The employee said he couldn't do anything with the color then grabbed our 5 gallon and pushed it to the back of the store, which made us think we could exchange it for something. Then he matched a brand new gallon of paint with the requested color. Not until we were asked whether we still wanted to keep the original 5 gallon of paint did we realize that they couldn't be returned or credited. As costumers, we should have asked whether it can be returned up front. But the "grabbing away without telling us the return policy" behavior was really confusing. We ended up buying the rest of the paint for our house project from a different retailer in town. Just for people's future reference, other stores at least offer to try to make your unsatisfied paint brighter or darker. read more

Drove down from my home in Santa Rosa (used to live in Petaluma) to get some paint chips/samples on a Sunday. Had horrible experience with my local Benjamin Moore store, so was braced. WOW! The customer service here knocked my socks off! Met James, who was kind, professional, knowledgeable and extremely helpful! He was patient, answered my questions and made good suggestions. Although I live in Santa Rosa, I'll come to these guys with my projects! Their customer service is stellar! read more

I have always heard that Benjamin Moore makes the best quality paint and has employees who are super helpful. We recently took on the task of painting the interior of the house but were not really certain about the color schemes. We met Sean at the store and he was able to guide us through the paint selection process with relative ease. The showroom was clean, well lit, and a comfortable environment to pick out paint. Sean and his staff are great and I will definitely be back! read more

Great paint store - especially for women! Sean and his staff are very nice and professional. I've been buying paint there for years.

Sean and his crew run the best paint store in the North Bay hands down. They worked with me endlessly to find the right kitchen cabinet paint and made a very good custom batch for me. It's an amazing color. They made sure my smaller projects got done too. read more

Joel at Peterson's is very knowledgeable about the products, he listened to what kind of project I was working on and knew immediately the right product for the he task. It was a busy day with several customers in the store and the phone ringing. Joel handled the stress with ease and a smile. If I were still working as a recruiter he is the kind of employee I would have recruited for my client companies. read more

I've been a customer of Peterson's Paint now for nearly a year, and was referred by a good friend who has been a customer of theirs for years. I first came into the store a bit frenetic, completely unaware of what I was in for and in serious need of an education. I've worked with nearly everyone at the store now at some point or another, including Rich and Sean. Both were exceedingly knowledgeable and patient with me as I've learned about painting a 115 yo house. From samples to helping me pick the right finish, these guys have helped me do more than I could've done on my own by sparing me research and anxiety, as well as by providing me with pro tips along the way both in person and over the phone. We have done our interior and exterior with their paints, and both look stunning. The quality is unparalleled, you can't get this grade of paint at a big box store. I've been really grateful to have become an extended part of the Peterson's Paint family and happily refer my friends here with the peace of mind knowing that they'll be better off in expert hands with people who truly care. read more

Shawn and his team are top notch. Always go above and beyond to be helpful. Plus Benjamin Moore paint is the best quality paint that I've used. read more

These people are so helpful! And ever time I bring a sample of paint here, they match it perfectly! Petersons also recycles old paint.

Best costumer service. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a smile. I have recently been going to the paint store more due to a new job and I was shocked that they remembered me after only 2 visits. My favorite thing about them is they RENT SAMPLES, finally a paint store that doesn't make you have 30 cans of miniature paint cans that you will never use again. Another thing that impressed me was while as I was waiting for my paint another couple walks in with a small paint chip and on the FIRST TRY they matched the paint color for the couple that couldn't remember what the name was! They are the only paint store I go to and will 10/10 recommend them to any family and friends. Once you go there you won't be going anywhere else for your painting needs! read more

Painted upstairs in house and just could not get the paint quantity right so after multiple trips back to store owner Sean spent extra time helping me figure things out, got me the right remaining quantity of paint, a better roller, and went way above and beyond on making it all work. Rare service in today's world. Glad we've been going there all these years. read more

I've been coming to Peterson's for years. Sean and his staff has always been helpful and willing to answer any questions I have had for my projects. They helped me with the proper paint selection for the exterior and interior paint on my house. I was advised to use an elastomeric as a primer coat for my stucco exterior with a paint topcoat. That was almost 20 years ago and it's held up very well to the weather. All I had to do this year was wash the dirt off the old paint and applied a new topcoat with paint from Peterson's. Nice to be able to return to a reliable business. read more

Belligerent "owner" accosting customers left and right. Absolutely the most disgusting customer experience, ever. Not only will we never be back, we are telling absolutely everyone about Sean, the "owner" of this establishment. We had some paint, which was purchased here, by a family member. We called in and asked last week if it was at all possible to have the remaining paint color matched for a different project, and were told that it was no problem and would be a complimentary service. When my partner went in to have this done, they were violently verbally accosted by the unhinged "Sean". This resulted in Sean, spewing a misogynistic diatribe at my parter. This person shouldn't be in population, let alone be allowed a business under the Benjamin Moore umbrella. The interaction ended when, with bulging eyes, Sean told my partner to "Take your paint and get the F*** out!" So let's all get the "F***" out of this establishment. From the looks of the reviews and their rating, it's not just their attitude that's problematic. We took our business to Kelly Moore over on Lakeville St, just around the corner. Spent a bunch of money, had a great experience, and weren't violently attacked by any of the team members. read more

After purchasing our house a couple years ago, there was no doubt that painting was needed. Everything was white and that's no fun. We decided on going here because of the great reviews and because of the great product. We haven't been disappointed. Every trip that my wife and I have made to Peterson's has been wonderful. The customer service is absolutely spectacular. You can tell that Sean truly enjoys his job; he and his crew will be there to assist you. They offer great advice, will point you in the right direction, and make sure you have everything you need for your paint job. Our house looks wonderful! I've felt welcomed during every visit and intend on going here for all my future painting needs! read more

Whoa, unprofessional manager and prices are sky high. We all want the hometown experience but this is a company that is geared towards production/contractor. Save money and time and go to Rex hardware or Home Depot for a much better experience read more

i try to avoid any type of contractor's business alone. i get the creeps sometimes by icky sales guys just trying to make lame jokes and force you to buy expensive useless crap. fortunately, this is far from the case at peterson's. not only did they not kick me out of their store for coming in 4 times in one day to re-evaluate the paint samples i had picked out.. AND when we came back the next day to have them adjust the color i had (finally) chosen. BUT, they were extremely helpful and offered very useful tips & tricks. i was fairly shocked at the reasonably-priced paint. i know that benjamin moore has had a rep. as an elite (aka expensive) paint. but, nope! elite it is, but pricing isn't. i bought the 'natura' paint, which is no VOC and the best consistency. i also picked up a couple of paint trays, WHICH are made from recycled 7-up bottles. go peterson's! read more

We were able to dispose of old paint here. The staff were really friendly and I would definitely come back here if I needed to buy new paint. read more

Awesome place. Don't go anywhere else to buy your paint! I can't even count how many times we've been in the store the last few weeks, each time as undecided and clueless as the last. The guys are all super attentive, patient and helpful. Their service is unmatched. We heard it was expensive before we went in, but it's really not. Considering the saved heartaches and third or fourth coats that came with the "cheap" paint we tried before - it's worth every penny! read more

Great paint store. The staff is very helpful and the store is nicely laid out.

No retail outlet (let alone a PAINT store) has ever given me the top notch service that I have received here today. Keep up the good work!

This place is great if you're a professional painter. I find them to be a bit cranky! Know what you're wanting and doing before you go, they have a "I don't have time for this attitude" otherwise! read more

I am an interior designer and can tell you that Peterson's has the best staff and the best service. They mix color excellent and offer great advice when needed. I'm extremely happy with what they have to offer myself and my clients. Thank you to all of you at Peterson's for doing such a great job! read more

Sean and his team were extremely helpful and knowledgeable when my sister and I went in to get paint for a project. I brought in a drawer from the kitchen that we were painting and he was able to tell us exactly what we needed to do in order to have a successful project. He took his time and was so friendly. I would definitely recommend this store to anyone who is needing paint! read more

Sean (owner) is super nice! He remembers me when I go in to buy stuff, even though sometimes it's months in between visits. It's not the cheapest paint on the market, but for a few dollars more per gallon, it's SO WORTH IT. It will be less labor to put on (better coverage) and last longer. I worked for a general contractor in San Francisco and all our paint subcontractors insisted on Ben Moore. Whatever you do, avoid the stuff from Home Depot. In my experience, the low quality just means you have to spend hours putting on an extra coat(s). read more

I just can't say enough about Peterson's Paint. They deserve all five of my stars! I have been buying my paint there for over 20 years. The staff and owner are so fun, friendly and helpful. I really love patronizing local businesses...they are my favorite. They also rent paint samples, which is a lifesaver for me..I can never, ever, ever make up my mind. Love you guys. Thanks for all the help over the years! read more

I don't do a lot of painting because I absolutely hate it. However when I have to this is the only place I will go. I don't mind paying more to support a locally owned small business most of the time, but you get such awesome and friendly service in this place it makes it all worth it. They also really know what they are talking about...haven't been pointed in the wrong direction yet. I highly recommend this place! read more

These guys are so knowledgeable and helpful. I won't go anywhere else for advice and paint

Best local paint store with good quality Benjamiin Moore paint. The staff are friendly, and great with service. I never have to wait very long and they take orders so you can call ahead with your paint requests...saves loads of time. read more

Sean and the guys at Peterson's Paint are the best. Customer Service was top notch...why can't every business be like this one? I visited the store every day for a week to get the colors just right and couldn't have done it without them!
