N/DM CM Great place for designer clothes handbags & shoes. Sliding sales dependent on how long it's been there. % off every month on the tag. Mix of vintage furniture and new furniture.

Another one of my items SOLD at Petersons' Consign and Design

I am writing this as a consignor... I sold a number of pieces with the help of Petersons'. The process was fairly simple. I took some pictures of the pieces I wanted to sell and emailed them to the business. Petersons' ok'd them and I scheduled movers to help transport the items to the store. (I went with the suggested moving company, Big Brother Moving, which I later discovered must be related to the owners of this company... in Cahoots, so to say.) Upon arrival of my items, they decided that the La-z-Boy recliner didn't meet up to their standards. Since I didn't have a way to pick up the chair, it got donated. (My husband was a little pissed and wished we would have gotten it back.) The other disappointment was that my $1200 Cindy Crawford microfiber couch, which I spent forever cleaning up, wasn't deemed "good enough" and was priced at like $130... of which you only receive 50% of the sales price. So I got a mere $65 for my couch (and spent the next 7.5 weeks sitting on the floor) Honestly, for $65 I would have preferred to have kept the couch for the next 7.5 weeks and put it out at the curb. Ah well. Regardless, all but 1 of my items were sold by Peterson's. It's kind of disappointing that you only receive 50% of the sales price. But since I didn't want to sell to shady people on Craigslist, I opted for this. (In hindsight, I could have sold on Facebook garage sale groups which seem a little more "safe"). One last note on selling, your contract lasts like 3 months (I believe). After a certain amount of time, the price will be dropped. Then dropped again after another length of time. If your item still hasn't sold, you can pick it up. Unfortunately for us, we had moved out of state so that wasn't possible so our last (unsold) item was turned over to the store's account. Honestly, can't really comment on the buying at Petersons'. I only went to the store once to pick up a Consignment check. All in all, I'd sell with Petersons' again and would recommend them.

Everything is overpriced. Not very much clothes, they're all very tacky. The ladies working were nice though

Most things seem too nice for outdoors, so perhaps they're more for an indoor garden room. Either that or I totally misunderstand the garden part of home and garden. It is a good store to find a nice gift, with the small statues of every kind, clocks, mirrors, pictures, wrought-iron wall ornaments, and even some personal items, like jewelry, scarves and handbags. In the back room is the most beautiful log cabin dollhouse that I've seen in some time. Elizabeth's is a relaxed store, where they've kept the feel of the house. There are two small rooms on the first floor and a larger room with the larger items, upstairs. Despite the limited space, there's still a light feel. In my visits to Elizabeth's there's been something new to see. Certain things are moved to another area, displayed in a different way, giving it a fresh look. The owners seem to have a great deal of retail experience that shows in how they treat their customers and in their down-to-earth attitude -- especially noticeable during the holiday rush shortly after they opened.

I've been searching for some smaller pieces for my downsized abode and haven't been too enamored of one store, yet. That may change now that I've seen what Streets of London has available. SLA carries some beautiful Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, and early American furniture, some with the most exquisite carvings. They truly are works of art. There was a mirrored Victorian organ, a French mirrored armoire, and a 1940s era silk embroidered sofa, that I could not stop staring at. And for the sofa, I know I'd be sitting on the floor in front of it, admiring the detailing; probably defeating the purpose of having something that nice. There isn't just furniture here, either. For whatever period, there's art, lithographs, bed frames -- brass and wood, glass punch bowls, silver tureens, china, and tea services. One silver tea service was the type with the pot on a hinged device where it could be tipped for pouring without having to be picked up. That was the first time I've seen one of those up close. Although I was completely stunned at how many gorgeous pieces I saw, most of them were far too big for my available space. That's where the owner, Gill, came to my rescue. She told me the smaller pieces were always the first to be sold, but she was expecting another shipment later this year. As she's trying to sell down her inventory in advance of the new shipment, she tempted me sorely by telling me she may be willing to deal on some of the existing inventory. I now have a reason to go back besides just for a visual treat in the genre of wood. Until then, if there's any way I can make that organ or sofa fit . . . where did I put that measuring tape and yardstick. . . .
