Terrible customer service. when I went in looking for Avocado trees I was pretty much told to go straight to the end isle, and hand a left and I'd see them. I thought it was rude and felt horribly brushed off. I decided to follow the instructions but found no Avocado trees after looking for quite some time. I decided to leave. On my way out I saw a young man watering the plants so I asked him where they were, he said that he didn't know. Next day I called to complain. A guy with broken English who was there when I went, insisted that they were too busy to help me, yet I was the only customer with three employees on the job, who didn't appear to be too busy. This is actually a nice nursery, but a few plants that I got from them died. Yesterday I went in around 4 pm to buy an avocado tree. The guy (Owner, I guess) was so rude. I left there feeling belittled, and discriminated against. He refused to assist me properly. He told me I'd find what I was looking for if I followed his directions, but with so many plants, I was lost looking. I told him that I had questions, he tried answering my questions as quickly as he could. I felt stupid and I won't be returning there ever again. I wouldn't treat a dog that bad. read more

I have to agree with a couple of the other posts whereas the owner of this business is rude. However there are a couple staff members there who are extremely helpful and friendly. I have shopped Home Depot and Lowe's regarding plants and shrubs and I found the prices there are much cheaper. Peters Brothers nursery may have a better selection of unique plants but if your plants die they do not allow you to return them for a refund or a replacement. Home Depot and Lowe's does. Bad service - rating zero I'm a local resident and I'm a firm believer of keeping my business in Madera because I too am a small business owner. With that being said, my husband and I are in the process of landscaping our front and back yard. We wanted speciality plants that Home Depot or Lowe's does not stock so where better to go than a local nursery. Stopped by Peter's Brothers yesterday afternoon. We browsed around looking - luckily my husband is knowledgeable about plants. I saw the owner in his bright jumpsuit - didn't even acknowledge us or say "hi" as he was deep in conversation with a merchant. We proceeded to look at the nursery which by the was is very stocked and had a good selection. We again walked by the owner - still no acknowledgement and was still talking to the same merchant and from what I overheard was not about gardening - just local Madera politics. We headed back in and needed a price on some plants and luckily we spotted a young gal watering plants - she did not greet us with a "hi or how are you - can I help you' and when we asked her for a price it seemed as if we burdened her. At that point me and my husband felt there was not need for us to be there as we were neither acknowledged with common courtesy. Needless to say we will be headed to Fresno for our landscaping needs and sorry Peter's Brother's - I guess you didn't need our local cash to stimulate our Madera economy. read more

We gave him plenty of freedom to work with, just giving him general guidelines of what we were looking for. His plans and design were spot on, and the way it came to fruition was even better than expected. Having moved to CA from CO two years ago, I'm still learning a lot about the growing season here and the staff at Peters has been phenomenal in helping me. Today I bought a fig tree (soon to be a Christmas Fig Tree but will end up being planted in the garden). Here's the thing. The staff took time to help me find and select the fig tree that was "just right" for our family. Plus, the staff provided helpful suggestion for planting the tree, as well as fertilizing strategies for my cold crops currently growing. The staff took care to cover the base of the tree before loading into my SUV so that it didn't get too dirty. Trust me, it's the little things that matter in business and in life. I specifically went into their store because I was looking to buy a number of special varieties of trees. The guy at the counter took my information and what I wanted and said they would get back to me. That was four months ago. I haven't heard from them yet. I went back twice to see if anyone was paying attention. Both times I went back I could not even find someone at the counter. I would not go to them again. We've been going there since the beginning of this year and they are always so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They are often very busy maintaining their plants or helping others so if you are patient and wait around they get to you as soon as they can. The plants I've gotten from there have been of great quality. I'm actually new at gardening and have had a lot of questions but they are so gracious in answering all of them with great detail and explanation. The lady that works the front is also so sweet. Very helpful with what she can but always gets someone else if she's not sure, instead of just guessing. I love that. 1st class service I have not received anywhere else. Very knowledgeable staff and prices are pretty competitive to the likes of Home Depot and Lowes. But the best selling point is that their plants seem to be healthier and more lush. We have had better success with their trees and flowers than the afore mentioned stores. We were given discounts every time we have been there. Also their plant care products and soil care products... some are cheaper then else where. read more

Dishonest owner and people who work here. My husband hurt and scrapped his knee on the property. When we broght to their attention they said we were lying. All the owner would say was that he has been in business for 42 yrs. Intimidation tactics. So scared that they may have to pay someone an extra dollar. This Was not our intentions. We just wanted to let them know abiut the incident. Will never shop here again. Stick to Lowe's or Home depot. At least you have a chance dealing with honest people. Had to rate a star to print. Love these guys. We come all the way from Fresno. It is seriously a pleasure to buy from them. They are always attentive, helpful, and fun. They even call us back and check up on us which doesn't happen in Fresno. Old fashioned service that's much appreciated and hard to find. They have a great selection of plants and those that we've bought have done better than others bought elsewhere.
