After I received advise on my grass, I asked about different trees that I could plant in my front yard. I don't have a large front yard and I needed some thing that had a non-invasive roots. The entire time I was there I was given such wonderful advice and such great suggestions on trees that have non-invasive roots that will not overpower my yard or grow around my water pipes. As soon as I walked in the lotus gardens, I felt so relaxed. It is such a wonderful place to walk around and to shop. The employees are so helpful and so nice. I wish I would've known they were there a long time ago. I will totally be visiting again in the near future. If you have it, then you're really missing out on a little hidden gem .

I love Kurapia, I have the new whites and the old strain Kurapia ..They both grow well here in…read moreBrentwood CA (Hot and Dry Climate) ..They grow fast with more water in the summer but once established lower the amount of watering to every 2 months (experiment with your watering, they are hard to kill) so you don't cut them more than once a month (edges and top), the more you step of them, the lower they grow (from experience) my lower traffic area, they grow to 4-5 inches tall, the heavier one, they can stay closer to the ground (less than 1/2 inch or less) I bought 2 trays and in about 3 months covered the entire 350 sq feet and if your more patient, 1 tray is probably enough for 500 sq ft and will probably cover that amount in 3-4 months..Did I mention it grows fast?! grows well in clay soil or amended soil, it doesn't care. The only problem I have with Kurapia is during the fall/winter they look like crap (leaves turn white and ugly, mildew?) and that since it doesn't grow during the time, dog urine will leave ugly dead spots (not a problem during growing season when they can cover those spots in about a week) It won't kill off weeds until it's roots are fully established (2-3 yrs) but it will stunt the growth of them so until then, you still have to pick by hand those pesky weeds..not sure if you can use pesticide since I don't like using them..but PM me if you have tried and the result, thanks!

In the packing slip, I found Takao Nursery but didn't know their relationship to Kurapia. Apparently Takao is the only place Kurapia.com grows this patented ground cover but they refused to help either. Both kurapia.com & Takao nursery said "not damaged- just plant and wait for this one to grow back." I ordered two live, usable flats costing over $460. Don't expect customer service or good will, despite all my photos & emails & phone calls, their answer continues to be "NO, they look ok to us. These stems without foliage will grow back." NOT what I ordered. I would never recommend using this company! or their product.

To put it simply, the owner, Grey Anderson, REALLY knows what he is talking about. Though I have countless succulent and cactus children already, I had only ever owned one bonsai before visiting Nee-Hai (which I didn't study up nearly enough about when it was mine). All I came prepared with was an intermediate knowledge from reading up, very little proper hands-on experience, and a strong willingness to learn. As it turns out though, Grey holds in the highest value the spirit and vigor of a novice bonsai enthusiast, which we discussed in depth-- and for this reason I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND visiting this nursery if you're a BEGINNER thinking of getting into bonsai, to buy a first tree, etc. That said, you should definitely visit if you've got established knowledge, too-- just that if you feel intimidated by trying something new, lack of knowledge, or are afraid of killing a tree old enough to be in the 4th grade, like the 10yo one I left with, I get you-- you're in good hands with Grey. Though I'm only 23 (and honestly look like I'm 15 and clueless), I was allowed to wander the grounds of his nursery for what must have been an hour at least-- giving me generous freedom to explore as slowly as I wanted-- while also casually checking in with me now and then to make sure I had all my questions answered. His presence was ever imposing, nor making me feel rushed. Be sure to take a peek at the warm, quaint indoor selection, where you'll find a variety of high quality bonsai tools for pruning and whatnot, ceramic pots (for bonsai and tea!), bonsai books and magazines (some in Japanese, some English), mudmen, and some other great imported goods for bonsai and otherwise. I swear, I would come back every week given the hobbies we share, Grey's willingness to share his knowledge, and the sheer friendliness he displayed in our first meeting, but at about 40 mins from my Clovis home, I might have to settle for once a month instead. Two things are certain though: I will be back soon (with my sketchbook, to trade art with Grey!), and I would very highly recommend this nursery to ANYONE. Period.

It's like you're walking in to someone's house. The owner is super nice and helpful if you need any particulars. There are 3 rooms with varied plant species. I decided to go for a small Calathea Makoyana. She gave me a lot of info and even wrote down a helpful card with care tips. Since I was there for Fresno Made, I received a free bottle of "Joyful Dirt" which was awesome because I needed to fertilize all my house plants! If you're a plant lover, it's worth checking out :)
