We were told to go sit at the bar and order a beer and you could order your food. The place is nice clean has a nice diner touch . We order 2 pc's of fish and chips, with gravy and coleslaw. Well let me say it was the best we had in NL. The fish was very tender , and the batter was nice light. We have eaten fish chips almost everyday from 5 different restaurants in St Johns and also on the Irish loop- well let me tell you that Dicks sure delivered the best fish and chips. The fries were one of the best of my all my times eating fries. Double fried crispy outside soft in the inside. Real potatoes . The meal was amazing and the service great. The only negative item was the tartar sauce was in packet - BTW we were so full that we had to cancel our 7:30 dinner plans. This is a must !! Worth it

Third time ordering the Double Smash Burger and third time it's nowhere near being a Smash Burger…read more I even mentioned it to the cashier that the last two times I had a smash burger from the Carbonear location it looked no different than a normal double cheeseburger. The cashier assured me she would speak to the same guy who screwed up my previous smash burgers to remind him I want them smashed as advertised! She went into the back and told the guy cooking to ensure my burgers were smashed. I waited in excess of 10 minutes for some reason ... maybe because the cook was annoyed I didn't care for his so-called smash burgers previously and had to be told how to cook them. When my burgers finally came out, I looked at them and once again they looked no different than a double cheeseburger. Only this time I wasn't having it and politely declined them and requested a refund. I will NEVER step foot in that place ever again! If I want a real double smash burger I'll go to Bay Roberts. They make them perfect! Sorry Carbonear A&W, you had 3 chances to make it right and buddy still couldn't be bothered to do his job properly.

My work colleague had mentioned to me that this place is famous for their Breen's famous turkey sandwiches. I was somewhat intrigued to see what this was all about! So I ordered the famous turkey with a pea soup $9.99. You had a choice of cranberry mayo or regular mayo. You pick up your meal from a sliding window that's hilarious (like a prison window). The sandwich came out as a heaping serving of real turkey with stuffing and mayo. The soup was really delicious also. Very thick purée of pea soup in a ham broth with a slightly sweet turnip tasting thick consistency. Overall it was amazing! There is a small area to eat in but fills up very quickly at lunch. The somewhat lack of restaurants in St John's means this place is pretty busy! Come get a Turkey Sandy, you won't be disappointed!

You'd think fora $15 breakfast you'd get something half decent and pretty easy to cook, but apparently that's a tall order and desire at this location. Truth be told, this location has been sliding downhill for the past 2-3 years now and evidently getting worse. All this to say I will never step foot back in this place. Disgusting!
