I normally don't write negative reviews, but my experience with Dr. Robbins left me deeply disturbed, especially during our last couples therapy session. One of the most concerning moments was when he told me that my childhood trauma was my "perception." I shared that my mom would wake me up in the middle of the night to console her through panic attacks. I then asked him if a child being molested by a parent would also be "perception," and he said yes. He later clarified that perception doesn't mean it didn't happen--but using that word felt extremely invalidating. When I expressed that, he dismissively responded, "Okay, I just won't use that word if you don't like it." Throughout our sessions, he emphasized "self-control." When I shared that I believe control and self-control are often used to push away feelings, he immediately told me we could not work together. When I tried to explain my perspective, he shut down and refused to share his own thoughts. During that same session, he disengaged almost completely--remaining silent and appearing to stare me down. He said he didn't want to "argue," but I was simply expressing how I felt. Therapy should be a safe space to communicate openly, not one where a therapist withdraws when challenged. There was also a situation where my wife stormed out of last session because I didn't want to spend our 45 minute session going through a 50-page workbook. I preferred to do that outside of session time. Despite this, Dr. Robbins placed the blame entirely on me. And because I kept urging Dr. Robbins to look at the underlying root issues in our relationship, he acted very childishly by using that same approach in a crude way on me. My wife lost our family 500k by gambling it away in stocks and crypto. He asked how it made me feel and what trauma that was coming from. Obviously, it makes me feel like I don't matter, but I want to break the cycle of my childhood trauma where boundaries were not allowed, and I want to set boundaries with my wife. When Dr. Robbins heard that, he didn't care to respond, because his main goal was to one up me by using the root cause methods I was urging him to use. At another point, he asked, "Where do feelings come from?" I said the inner child, and he responded, "No, it comes from behavior." I am always talking to my son about feelings and emotions, and after the session I told him what Dr. Robbins said about feelings not coming from the inner child. My six-year-old son's immediate response was, "what the h*ll." Even my six-year old son is emotionally smarter than Dr. Robbins. I would not recommend working with Dr. Robbins because he uses his pain and his coping mechanisms to dictate the session. After ten sessions, we had no real improvement in our relationship. read more

My spouse and I were going through the most difficult time in our marriage and Dr. Robbins went above and beyond for us. If there was a gap in us coming (due to my husband schedule) the office would call to check on us. He gave us many resources, books, shared his years of professional experience with us and we both trust him. He was so patient and when I would ask him questions he always would listen and made me feel heard even when it was difficult to hear. Dr Robbins is a counselor who is able to dissect relationship issues and gives very practical, easy to understand strategies and tools that have shaped and transformed my marriage. He is very easy to talk to and has given my spouse and I solutions that actually work. I've seen counselors in the past who are great but not as effective as Dr Robbins is. The pricing scale in a bit out of our budget but he is worth every penny. My husband and I didn't have any pre-marital counseling so not only is Dr Robbins addressing issues but also teaching us things we didn't have an opportunity to learn before. It took me a while to write this review because no words could be written about how much Dr. Robbins and his staff mean to me. I was referred to him by a dear friend of mine, but at the time I didn't think I could afford his services. I went through a few other counselors because they were slightly cheaper before giving Dr. Robbins a try and to this day, I will never go anywhere else. I came in as a desperate wife of 8 years who had completely fallen apart and could barely keep my life together. I had mentally and physically been broken and didn't know what to do. I was willing to do anything to save my marriage whether or not my husband agreed to join me. I needed to be able to tell my children, mommy did everything she could. I was seeking a Christian male counselor who could lead me biblically, but also be a safe space for my husband (who is not a follower of Christ) and Dr. Robbins was that for me. He didn't push his values on me but I knew they were there and that we could chat openly about God. I started seeing Dr. Robbins by myself and then my husband did end up joining me eventually in the sessions. Dr. Robbins said he was willing to take the challenge after meeting my husband for the first time because even with all his life experience and education, he knew my husband would be a tough one to crack. He didn't give up on me or my marriage and that was encouraging. I never felt more alone in life, but to have Dr. Robbins on my side, gave me hope. Writing this review stirs up a lot of emotion and tears of gratitude of how far my family and I have come due to my faith in Christ and with the help of Dr. Robbins. We are still married and we use the tools that we were given on a constant basis. Dr. Robbins helped guide me in how to set up boundaries and he really brought out the strong woman who was inside of me who was just broken down. He did not choose my side and he did not choose my husbands, but he chose our marriage. His guidance was not biased and he offered great wise counsel. My husband challenged him quite a bit, and Dr. Robbins showed my husband that he listened to him just as much as he listened to me. For those of you reading this, I couldn't recommend Dr. Robbins and his team anymore. Even the women at the front desk were so supportive when I had my numerous breakdowns in the office. Be very careful in trusting Peter Robbins. From my two meetings with him, he appears to be very irrational and unprofessional. For example, he talked extensively about his own life and shared many sordid details about his childhood including, "his father punching his mother in the face in the middle of a restaurant on the day of their wedding". These comments were not relevant to the context of the issues my ex-wife and I were dealing with. My ex-wife and I trusted him to resolve normal martial communication issues, and Peter Robbins digressed into his own personal issues and projected them onto us. He also many other remarks that were sweeping generalizations based on his personal stereotypes. Im not sure if he was just exhausted, under the influence of chemical substances, apathetic, intentionally malicious, or just not very intelligent. He also made many other assumptions based his emotions and did not ask many relevant questions or seek to clarify facts. He did rather honestly admit, "Im not like other therapists, and I take sides." This approach may be valid, but only after one garners all the relevant facts instead of operating from a personal bias. I'm honestly astonished & dismayed he is allowed to practice as a licensed therapist. After almost 30 years of marriage, my wife and I were both speaking to attorneys and planning to divorce. After raising three beautiful children, we had grown apart, were unable to communicate and our relationship became toxic, especially as our children were leaving home to pursue their own lives. Desperate to keep our marriage, and still in love, we sought out marriage therapists on Yelp, and feel extremely blessed and fortunate that we found Dr. Robbins. He was able to diagnose our issues quickly, and gave us the tools that we desperately needed to get back on track. He is a therapist that believes in the sanctity of marriage, displays empathy for everyone's feelings, but is not shy to call out either partner when they are in the wrong. His advice is given in a non threatening and compassionate manner. He often uses his own personal experiences as examples of issues that he and his own wife had to resolve. This allows him to communicate in a warm way that makes you feel that he is just a wise friend giving you valuable advice about marriage instead of just being a therapist. I will admit, that when we were searching for a therapist, we were a little concerned that his methods would be religious based and non-secular. Although he does bring up biblical examples from time to time, he does so more as a historical perspective, (instead of moral) which we welcome and find very comforting. Lastly, his fees are very reasonable in comparison to other therapists with great reviews, and he offers virtual sessions which makes scheduling very convenient. If you want to improve, repair or save your marriage, I highly recommend Dr. Robbins. He literally saved our marriage. read more

I came to see Dr. Robbins for help with an addiction. He came highly recommended from a friend of mine. I had been through several different rehab type programs but always felt like they were only treating the symptoms. I wanted to treat the source. I had a lot of anxiety on my first visit (another issue I was hoping my time with Dr. Robbins would help). The external factors of my life haven't changed but my attitude and how I deal with them have which has made me a much happier person overall. Plus, I haven't felt like a needed a drink to cope. Where should I start? My wife and I have been seeing Dr. Robbins for counseling for quite some time now.
