She says that it's nice that we don't have to pay for parking although everywhere else in Orange County you would have to pay for parking. I expressed my incredulity about her statement, since that was not true in my experience as an Orange County native. She couldn't even validate my experience, which was obviously different from hers but also SUCH a trivial matter. How hard is it to acknowledge that I never had to pay for parking for any kind of services in the OC? She just insisted I was wrong and she was right. It's amazing what the first 5 minutes in a session will tell you. To quote Maya Angelou, "when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." I will believe what I saw and experience. And do yourself a favor and believe all the bad reviews!! She claimed to be really direct but I think she's using that as a guise for her cold and standoffish personality. She didn't even seem comfortable being in the session. I came into session wondering if I could trust this person and she acted threatened by that. I'm sorry, but is this your first counseling session ever??? Isn't that a normal part of the job - dealing with clients who are a little hesitant, maybe a little distrustful of you? I don't know if she was experiencing countertransference but she was really not aligned with me at all. In fact, I felt emotionally attacked by this therapist and really unsafe. Oh, and as we were discussing our history, she stated this is not her niche, to which I asked, "what is your niche then?" And she just glared at me and said "this is not it." Lol. Lady, therapy is not your niche. Helping others this way is not your niche. I'm grateful to be in a position to recognize when a counselor is NOT trustworthy and I hope this review serves as a warning sign to others. I'm so glad to have found someone else who more honest, comfortable with herself, still very direct, but a much warmer guide in my life. DON'T SETTLE FOR JUST ANY THERAPIST - trust your gut and find one that is a good fit!!

If you are a walk-in, the front desk will most likely try to direct you to them as the doctors are almost always booked with appointments, and the nurses are supposed to give you medical advice if you have any questions, concerns, or symptoms. I have made this mistake twice; the first time, a few years ago, I came in because I had been coughing up blood all morning and I was in consistent pain. The nurse (I wish I had written down her name, not sure if she still works there) who I spoke to was extremely condescending, not only telling me that I was overreacting and coughing up blood is rarely as bad as it seems, but she also did not offer any significant advice and essentially told me to wait it out and did not write me a note, so I still had to go to class. I made an appointment with a doctor here shortly after and had a chest x-ray and lab work done (that I had to pay for, which surprised me, as I was under the impression that it too would be included in tuition and they also did not accept my insurance, mind you), and it turned out I had a severe upper respiratory infection. The second time I made the same mistake was just this week, and it is the reason I am writing this review. I walked-in two days ago and opted to see a nurse since it was short notice, my symptoms were sudden, and I was once again in pain. I was greeted by a nurse named Nicki. I have sores all over my tongue, mouth, and throat, and have had a fever and muscle aches all week, and when I explained this to her, she looked inside my mouth and agreed that my throat looked "funky" and I had some "white spots that I can't quite explain" (her words). Despite this, she proceeded to tell me that it was viral, it did NOT look like strep throat, and I just needed to wait it out. Sound familiar? Hydration, rest, chicken soup. She said to ONLY come back if I developed "white fur" in my throat, which would signify strep. No note. Did not even recommend that I get a strep test just to confirm. Here I am, two days later, only having returned to this place because I booked an appointment in advance and I did not want to have to wait hours in urgent care or go to my primary care physician. My symptoms got worse since my last visit. I saw Dr. Fassbender (who I recommend, she has helped me more than once and is very kind) and she said I should get lab work done: a throat swab and a blood test to check for both strep and mono. I did so and waited an hour for the results, and I tested positive for strep throat. Exactly what the nurse told me I did not have. You have to understand how frustrated this made me, as I could have started the antibiotics two days prior and started improving instead of feeling worse and missing more classes. Dr. Fassbender prescribed me penicillin and that was that. Speaking to the doctors isn't always perfect, however, as I have had rude ones as well. Beyond my own experiences, one of my best friends was hunched over and crying from period cramps that were unusually bad and so I walked with her to the health center and once again the nurses were condescending and minimized her symptoms and pain, suggesting that she should just get used to it and it was part of being a woman. She saw a doctor later on and started birth control to remedy the problem. I've also had friends tell me that the psychological area is rather dismissive and unhelpful. Take from that what you will. Overall, I'd recommend just seeking medical help off campus, if you can. If you do not have insurance, this place can be a free way to help with minor problems or illnesses, but if you suspect you have a problem that might need medication, x-rays, or something more substantial in order to fix, it's going to be a hassle and some of the staff might make things worse. Always make an appointment in advance to see one of the doctors, don't bother with the nurses. If you need to cancel the appointment, do so far in advance or they'll use it as an excuse to get some money out of you. Stay on top of them about giving you a note if you need to miss class. Good luck.

I've had physicals, talked with their nutritionist, blood and other lab tests, X-rays, and EKGs and paid minimal fees for each if anything at all. My experiences here have been generally positive. In the situation where I needed stitches after falling on campus, I called them up, told them I busted open my knee and that I was on my way over. I get there, the receptionists have the doors open and ready for me to get to Triage, where they look it over, have me fill out paperwork, get me into a room that looked like it was ready for surgery and the doctor sewed me up, wrote me a prescription for Vicodin, and sent me on my way. You know what the whole affair cost me? $0.80 for the Vicodin (which never got used anyway). No charge for the stitches. It's recommended that you sign up for FamilyPACT (which is free for students) when you use the Health Center. At the very least, it allows you to get prescriptions for free at select pharmacies and ALL Targets. REALLY useful. The Health Center also has chiropractors and acupuncturists ($5/visit each). I've only used the chiropractor, and while they are pretty thorough in asking what might be causing pain, they mostly just crack your joints and tell you to come back next week. The Center recently started charging a $20 fee for missing an appointment, particularly without notifying them. So don't just schedule to see a doctor and don't come. Since the Health Center is often in high demand, someone could have easily been fitted into that time slot.

One of the most concerning moments was when he told me that my childhood trauma was my "perception." I shared that my mom would wake me up in the middle of the night to console her through panic attacks. I then asked him if a child being molested by a parent would also be "perception," and he said yes. He later clarified that perception doesn't mean it didn't happen--but using that word felt extremely invalidating. When I expressed that, he dismissively responded, "Okay, I just won't use that word if you don't like it." Throughout our sessions, he emphasized "self-control." When I shared that I believe control and self-control are often used to push away feelings, he immediately told me we could not work together. When I tried to explain my perspective, he shut down and refused to share his own thoughts. During that same session, he disengaged almost completely--remaining silent and appearing to stare me down. He said he didn't want to "argue," but I was simply expressing how I felt. Therapy should be a safe space to communicate openly, not one where a therapist withdraws when challenged. There was also a situation where my wife stormed out of last session because I didn't want to spend our 45 minute session going through a 50-page workbook. I preferred to do that outside of session time. Despite this, Dr. Robbins placed the blame entirely on me. And because I kept urging Dr. Robbins to look at the underlying root issues in our relationship, he acted very childishly by using that same approach in a crude way on me. My wife lost our family 500k by gambling it away in stocks and crypto. He asked how it made me feel and what trauma that was coming from. Obviously, it makes me feel like I don't matter, but I want to break the cycle of my childhood trauma where boundaries were not allowed, and I want to set boundaries with my wife. When Dr. Robbins heard that, he didn't care to respond, because his main goal was to one up me by using the root cause methods I was urging him to use. At another point, he asked, "Where do feelings come from?" I said the inner child, and he responded, "No, it comes from behavior." I am always talking to my son about feelings and emotions, and after the session I told him what Dr. Robbins said about feelings not coming from the inner child. My six-year-old son's immediate response was, "what the h*ll." Even my six-year old son is emotionally smarter than Dr. Robbins. I would not recommend working with Dr. Robbins because he uses his pain and his coping mechanisms to dictate the session. After ten sessions, we had no real improvement in our relationship.
