We stopped in while at a local event- haven't been for a few years but love their art. Recently one of my beloved seahorse candlesticks broke- and I stopped here to see if I could find a replacement. I love perusing the shelves and the designs displayed throughout this establishment. Their product is just fantastic. I am in love with the pottery and wish it were closer so I could visit more often. They create and sell a variety of: - Tableware (plates, bowls, cups) - Servingware (Bowls, pitchers, platters) - Bakeware (Casserole dishes, mixing bowls, pie plates) - Home and Garden (Vases, lamps, piggy banks) - Accessories (Spoon rests, jars, candleholders, salt and pepper shakers) The setting is so picaresque. It's been years since we last visited Peter Pots and it has changed indeed. It used to be a rather prosaic no-frills showroom, but it looks to have been remodeled and it is a more welcoming, warmer, and brighter space. What hasn't changed is the wares - a still charming and diverse assortment of housewares and decorative items. What also hasn't changed is its beautiful waterway and view of the Queen River, bespeaking its heritage of a former millwork. It's a bit out of the way, but well worth the visit - we picked up some nice stocking stuffers for the holidays! read more

This place has 6 decades of pottery and love! Used to go to visit with the gentle man that founded this with his wife. Return now because I still find the shopping experience charming! We purchased several place settings of this beautiful and functional stoneware shortly after we were married close to 40 years ago and, minus a few accidents, have been in daily use ever since. We recently decided to bring in a few broken and/or discolored pieces on Butterfingers Day, the first Saturday of the month when up to 6 pieces may be replaced at 50% off after making a $5 additional purchase. The owner, Oliver Greene, has to be in his 90's and has a tendency to be a bit surly, but I cut him a little slack and did not take his comments personally. He advised us that our discolored plates and saucers could be restored by using silver polish. This stoneware has proven to be a lifetime investment for us so I was amazed that dinner plates, originally retailing for $20-$25, now fetch only $30. We could not be happier with our investment. read more

I really like everything about this pottery. The old mill it's situated in, the clean lines of the mid - century modern design of the pottery, and the fact that the pottery's displayed among a bunch of really cool antiques (also for sale), picked by the potter Oliver Greene. They have 2 very cool programs, which I'll describe, but please check their website for details. One is "Butterfinger's Day." Lets say you brought home some great coffee mugs and you break one. (We did.) Bring the pieces back to the pottery, and buy a replacement 1/2 price. The second one has to do with their cool piggy/rabbit/whale/quahog banks. Buy a bank, fill with coins, bring back to pottery, smash bank, if $25 or over spend that coin on pottery, receive a NEW BANK to start all over again. I filled my Whale Bank with $60 assorted change (no pennies please), couldn't bear to smash it, we uncorked it, and I brought it home with a new Piggy Bank. Makes saving fun! Super cool, and just a stone's throw from the Kenyon Grist Mill, and a larger stone's throw from RI University, & also a really great used book store (The Kingston Hill Store). A nice little area to pass through on the way to the RI beaches. read more

The setting of this place is so beautiful.....right next to a brook and a waterfall, both of which you can admire from the outside or any of the nice large windows that face that side of the store. I thought most of the pottery items were too monochromatic for my taste and they felt light and not sturdy enough. Limited selection of dinner and cookware, along with some antiques, it is a cute place to stop if you are in that part of the state...kind of out in the middle of nowhere, but kind of fun. I thought most of the items were on the pricey side. read more

I guess my family is third generation going on fourth generation of Peter Pots Pottery users... I remember the heavy blue coffee mugs in the cabinet... kept in the w-w-w-w-way back... just out of reach of my five year old fingers... they were the mugs from Grandma's... only for Dad to use... I remember WANTING that Mug... but my Mother also wanted that Mug... she wanted it to stay intact... So it was kept very much out of my reach... Eventually I got older and bought myself my Mug... now I own a whole set of them. Mugs, Bowls, Plates, etc... I use them everyday... and they remind me of what being a Rhode Islander means to me... quirky, modest, interesting, beautiful, in tuned with nature, hard working, rustic, steady, classic, timeless... It means being special... but not obvious. And that is what Peter Pots are... Special, Timeless, Classic and Quirky... Not two pieces are alike and yet all are reflections of the others... I left Rhode Island years ago... but my Family have all moved nearer Peter Pots... so when I make my yearly Thanksgiving pilgrimage to see them... I usually find myself stopping in there... it is a one of kind show room set in a beautiful landscape... it is out of the way... wonderfully hidden... meaning that you have to create a journey to go there... but in a world where everything is endlessly convenient yet endlessly irrelevant... make taking the time to make a moment is important... and buying a Peter Pots Coffee Mug is not like going to Target or Walmart... take your time selecting it... wander around with it... you are holding a piece of art... and it will be the best mug you have ever bought... read more

I have been collecting Peter Pots pottery since I was 17 years old. We eat from the elegant plates, bowls and mugs daily. I have never tired of the classic design. My collection now includes casseroles, serving pieces and jugs of various sizes. I have moved from Rhode Island to Ohio many years ago but continue to purchase online. My son is now a collector of pieces as well. The store is an experience and I have many wonderful antique items from my lively chats with Oliver Greene over the years. So very sorry he has passed away. All items of pottery are works of art, no two the same. It is a joy to use my pieces every day. They make very nice pottery for use, not show. If you break a piece, bring it back on the first Saturday of every month, and replace it for half price. They also sell antiques and curios. read more

Finally landed here this past weekend. I've been driving back and forth to NPT for years and have always seen the sign, but never stopped. So I'm glad we finally did. This is a barn like building right next to a waterfall... a very cool place. The store itself is a mix of new and old. The owner/founder, a guy named Oliver, NOT PETER, was there too. He took a mug off the shelf and banged it against the floor. Also stood on it, demoing the strength of his pieces. The BF and I ended up picking up some pieces for our homes. We kept mentioning what a great place for a wedding/birthday/christmas presents! They just came out with a new color too. A really nice green. Oliver has created some really cool looking banks too. Some pig and some rabbit banks. If you fill the bank and bring it back full, spend all the $$$ at the store, they will give you 2 banks, one to keep and one to give away. My family has been using this pottery as our everyday table ware for generations. The dishes used by my grandparents (purchased more than 65 years ago) blend seamlessly with the newer additions acquired through the generations. Yes, I have my favorite pieces - the mug that is just right for my morning coffee, the bowl that has just the right balance for the fruit salad, the glaze that seems just a little more appealing. Other family members may have a preference for other pieces - but isn't that always true with hand crafted art? The pottery is lovely, durable, ages well and is timeless in style. It transitions effortlessly from bake-ware used in the oven to the dinner table for serving. How nice it is to be able to heat dinner plates before serving. It holds up well to many years of dining, dishwasher cleaning and hand scrubbing - oh and the occasional drop on the floor or thump into the sink. Yes, we have broken a few dishes over the years - but surprisingly few given the daily abuse that it takes - and it takes quite a big thump or thwack to cause damage. It's easily as appropriate for dining as it is for breakfast use or a casual lunch outside on the deck. I pair settings with stainless for casual meals and silver for more formal gatherings and always receive compliments. I look forward to seeing the new creations and adding to my collection - which of course will be passed on to the next generation. The Peter Pot's pottery in West Kingston is off the beaten path and is a bit hard to find - but it's a destination that is so very fun to visit. It's this little timeless gem in the woods that invites you to take your time to indulge your senses - listen to the water splashing, the trees rustling and birds singing. I have been going to Peters Pots every summer for over 20 years. I have a lot of their pieces (all production slipcast ware, but nice!). The late owner, Oliver, was a character and made the place a "must visit" shop. My daughter and I went there this summer. She was saving her money to purchase a certain piece. The only had 1 left. I wasn't sure she should buy it. All the pieces there are on the pricey side and this one was imperfect as it had glaze splashed on the foot. I pointed this out to my daughter and the salesgirl became very defensive and lied and said it was not a glaze smudge. I told her I was a studio potter (over 30 years & I own my own business) and I was sure it was glaze. She became obnoxious and basically said she was an "artist" and I was wrong!! What a jerk! Doesn't she know how to treat her customers??!! Since it was the only piece of its kind left, and we were leaving for home the next day, my daughter bought it for the full price of $62 (after I told her I might be able to repair it when I got home to my studio). Geesh! Super rude! I think we just bought our last Peters Pot! Too bad. I personally would never sell seconds at any price. It's a reputation thing! P.S. I was able to grind most of the glaze off the foot. Not perfect, but okay looking now... P.P.S. Kenyon Grist Mill is around the corner and a cool place to check out. read more

Our family has been purchasing Peter Pots Pottery for over 50 years either for ourselves or as gifts for friends and family. Going to the shop was a once or twice a year treat. We went recently for a butterfingers Saturday. Maybe it was on off day but I left with the feeling that I did not need to return to the shop again and would purchase pieces on-line possible. I also left without purchasing anything-- which is quite unusual for me. Customer service is a critical part of any sales business and the rude treatment of customers tends to be off-putting. read more
