Dr. Silver and his staff are really good at putting me at ease. They are efficient and pleasant...they also have nitrous for those of us who prefer to have it. They try to make every procedure as comfortable as possible and are clear with everything. I'm generally nervous with going to the dentist, but have found that I hardly even need the nitrous for anything anymore! Dr. Silver is patient and willing to work with you. I went to dr silver 2 years ago for a root canal on the recommendation of a friend. This review is an account of the repercussions of his 'treatment' on mentioned tooth. Having not been to the dentist in years I was unsure about who to go to and who to trust which is why I asked friends of mine for recommendations... 2 years down the line and I have come to deeply regret the decision to go to Dr Peter Silver. Like many other reviews on yelp yes he was friendly and his office had some fancy gadgets; sadly for me none of which were useful to my root canal surgery as my endodontist informed me recently. I did not know what to look for at the time so I was not aware that a rubber dam and a microscope should have been used. He is also very big on no pain so I was pumped with anaesthetic and given a prescription of 40 pills of codeine after the procedure of which I only used one at the time but I'm definitely in need of now after having to have the mentioned root canal redone!... 2 years down the line only!...after having paid 2 grands for it! I am going through the worst experience physically and emotionally right now and to top it all off I have to pay for this nightmare. I found out that Dr Silver's root canal was not done properly after suffering an infection in the 'treated' tooth a month ago. After finding another dentist I was referred to an endodontist who took an x-ray of my tooth and showed me my x-ray against a properly treated root canal and I could not believe the difference. She informed me of what needed to be done and last week I went in to get Dr Silver's poor excuse of a root canal removed. The whole experience was painful as my tooth is infected and the anaesthetic had difficulty taking in. Not only that but at the end of the appointment my endodontist informed me that Dr Silver left a pretty big file in my gum (she showed it to me, I figured I had the right to see the sounvenir he had left there for me for 2 years) and had not told me about it! I had the worst toothache ever this weekend and had to go back in Monday to get the canals clean, another unbelievably painful experience; I have to go back again to get the root canal done once again. I would not wish toothache or tooth surgery on my worst enemy. All in all the one root canal is going to cost me around 4 grands after it's all said and done as I also have to get a new crown and I have no insurance (at the time and now). That's just financially. It's taken a lot of my time and I'm exhausted and I'm angry... I'm angry at myself and obviously angry at Silver for not telling me he had left something in my gum and botching my root canal. I'm pretty powerless in the situation but I'm hoping that voicing my frustration may prevent someone from unnecessary pain and suffering. I sent an e-mail to Silver's office last week after being told about the 'lost' file. I was told by Lisa that Silver was away til Monday but will address my concerns when he'll come back. It's Wednesday, I don't expect him to get back to me personally but maybe this review will help him think a little bit (I'm hoping a lot but I'm not holding my breath). read more

My complaint is the use of Diagnodent, a controversial piece of diagnostic equipment which uses a laser to detect cavities before they appear on xrays. I have spoken to very sophisticated dentists in the city who have said to me that is a dubious procedure. Silver uses this and is pushy. This is the latest way many dentists look for revenue in an age where dental hygiene and care has impacted the profession. Fewer people are having routine problems with cavities and things like Diagnodent and cosmetic work are being pushed to boost income. read more

The staff here are really very nice. However the quality of the care feels off. Its expensive, and they only take one insurance plan. I wasted a lot of money on a treatment that was entirely unsuitable for my teeth/face. It should NEVER have been recommended to me. Two other dentists have voiced that opinion. I know its tough to find good dentists in NYC and you are going to pay a lot no matter who you see. However, I would not go here again. Bottom line, spent a lot, got nothing but a headache. read more

I told the folks at Dr. Silver's office that it had been 8 years without a checkup, and I had started to notice a few spots on my teeth which were sensitive when I touched them. Dr Silver and his assistant, Roz, checked me out and said there was no problem, and that it was normal for someone my age to get a little sensitivity along the gum line. They said that some people are just sort of cavity resistant, and that I was lucky enough to be one of them, but that I shouldn't press my luck waiting 8 years again for the next checkup. I think I was lucky to find a dentist that runs such an honest business -- they could have milked me and I wouldn't have known the difference. I got out of there buying nothing more than a standard cleaning and some x-rays. Incredible. The office had a really nice, pleasant, happy atmosphere too. read more

It's an unspoken rule, that prior to treatment, the dentist should first take into account what is usable and in relatively good condition along with evaluating what is wrong and requires intervention. Only after this careful evaluation can the dentist offer possible treatment. Unfortunately this philosophy is far from practice today, and most dentists (and physicians) immediately suggest treatment without detailed and scrupulous analysis and sensitivity to the patient's full picture. The striking uniqueness, gift, and devotion of Dr. Silver is uncompromisingly focused on the patient's condition--to maximize his/her potentials towards best treatment. I had an astonishing experience in Dr. Silver's office where I literally came with no hope for even elementary chewing because of tooth fracture. All the more upsetting because this added to my already compromised dental condition. Not only did Dr. Silver masterfully perform repair, but it was done with no pain, without even a hint of sensitivity. I almost felt as if in magician's hands. The entire experience was that much less stressful because of the devotion and remarkable knowledge of Dr. Silver's head hygienist, Roslyn. I'm so grateful for just this visit alone. I know that a number of my friends are also benefiting from the expertise of Dr. Silver and his staff. read more

Dr. Silver and his staff are amazing. After 6 years (I know disgusting) of avoiding the dentist a cracked tooth made me face my worse nightmare: the dentist. However, by the conclusion of my first meeting with Dr. Silver my fears were eased. He patiently listened and answered every question that I had. He discussed various treatment options and never pushed the route he thought was best but the one that I felt most comfortable with. Since, I needed major work done I opted for sedation. Even before the procedure he again discussed the treatment plan and made sure I was comfortable with what was scheduled. It is evident that Dr. Silver genuinely cares for his patients and thoroughly loves what he does. He will not suggest anything that he does not believe will be beneficial for the health of your mouth. He is extremely gentle which is not the typical adjective used to describe a dentist. After my procedure, that very night, he called to see how I was feeling and also did so the next day. Now really, how many doctors will do that? None I have known. And, another bonus is I have no pain. If you are in search of a dentist that truly cares for you as a patient then Dr. Silver is the dentist for you. I went to Dr. Silver after reading reviews about him here, and simply put, everyone was right in saying he is great. Incredibly calm and patient, he put me right at ease when I went in there to get not one, but three cracked teeth fixed. Everyone in the office is warm and kind and helpful. Their email and text message reminders about appointments are particularly useful. But most importantly, Dr. Silver's work is professional and attractive (remember, we're talking about three seriously messed up teeth), and he is just a really talented dentist and a really warm person. Dr Silver is the most compassionate, talented and kind dentist. He explains everything, so you know exactly what he is doing and when, and he is extremely thorough in his work. He took such great care with my dental work and used Ozone dentistry for two of the cavities I had filled, which I was so thrilled about, because there was no need for anesthetic and it actually kickstarts the tooth into completely repairing itself of decay, and then the cavities are filled, and the tooth begins its journey back to health. I had never had this kind of advanced dentistry before, and I highly recommend it, as it is so minimally invasive, painless, and your teeth get a new lease of life. The lab company he uses for making crowns etc, is also marvelous and made a perfect crown for one of my back teeth. I've never been someone who was frightened of the dentist, but Dr Silver would restore anyone's faith in dentistry, and if you are someone who is scared, he is the one to go too. Both he and his staff are lovely people, who will take care of you from start to finish, making the overall whole experience even better. Highly recommended! read more

I called my best friend on Friday night, freaking out, as I had just broken my tooth biting in to a french bread pizza. She gave me Doctor Silver's number and I called him the next morning. I left a message with his service before 9am Saturday morning and Dr. Silver called me back, himself, minutes later. After establishing that I was not in pain, we agreed to meet on Monday. I showed up today, nervous at the thought of the pain I was about to endure. Not only because I have had nothing but painful dental experiences up until then but because I was already feeling discomfort and not particularly flush with cash at the moment. I showed up today apprehensive but grateful to be being seen and was very happy to meet Dr. Silver. He is smart, caring and kind. He took the time to explain all of the steps that make up his process and got to work. I was not scared and I was not in pain. I got a temporary cap put on with a permanent to follow. I was expecting a tremendous bill but was presented with a reasonable one. I am so pleased to have met Dr. Silver today and will recommend him to anyone who asks and probably to quite a few more who do not :0) read more
