Dr. Peter Broekelschen is the most experienced, compassionate GI physician you will ever find! I had an endoscopy at the hospital after suffering lots of pain and it came back missing so much detail that Dr. Broekelschen found when he repeated it a few short weeks later. What a difference! He is reassuring, kind, and has been practicing longer than most everyone else in town. And his knowledge and experience makes all the difference. He is also funny as a bonus. His office manager, Ana, answers the phone and instead of voice mail when she is on the phone, they have a service. Both Ana and the doctor are always ready to listen and help you.. I have never heard a hint of any impatience or irritation in their words or voices. They listen and give you their full attention. What a gift! If I could rate a minus zero I would!!! Worst experience EVER!! I had my annual colonoscopy on 10/30. First he was running late, so as a result recovery rushed me out in 20 minutes after procedure because they needed space!! Never spoke to doctor! No instructions NOTHING!! Had follow up appointment following week. Told me he took out 4 polyps but were benign. Told me I had discoloration in colon I should start taking a form of fiber!!! 1 week later I blew up I looked 8 months pregnant!! I called and called to get in NO response from his office!! I finally get them to respond and I get an appointment on December 21. Almost 2 months of horrible pain and bloating!! And He sends me for an ultrasound and X-ray!! I have NEVER heard from this office again!! I had to see another doctor and go through 2 colon preps and another colonoscopy!! I ended up with a blockage that had been in there since November!! I had 2nd colonoscopy 1/22!! Dr Broekelschen missed 4 polyps 1 was 16mm in the ascending colon exactly where he removed one!! Because of his lack of caring for his patients and the blockage that subsequently occurred I now have to deal with possbile bacteria and complications I did not have prior to seeing this doctor!!! He and his office should not be open!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AS A PATIENT OR A HUMAN BEING!!! The only call I got returned was in January when I left a message with answering service that I received a bill and wanted to pay!! My experience with Dr. Broekelschen and his office was professional and at the same time very comfortable. He is low key and very approachable. He makes you feel like you've been friends for years. The procedure was extremely easy and uncomplicated. I also quite enjoyed the structure of his office. I found Dr. Broekelschen because his yelp ratings were so high, and as a CA transplant, I didn't have any personal references. I will start by saying that he was great, if his office didn't operate in the manner that it did, I'd definitely go back to see him for my stomach issues. Regardless, I will not be back to see him. Upon entering the facility, they charge you a $20 facility fee, which I was not informed of when setting up my appointment, this is in ADDITION to my copay (I called my insurance company, and they said this is legal, shady but legal). When I questioned the office, they said it was b/c we used the elevators and the hallways of the building, I think we're just helping them pay their rent. The real problem occurred when they billed for my copay, I gave them my credit card information over the phone in July; in late September I received a letter that my bill was going to a collection agency. I called a few days later to figure out what was going on, they had typed a number on my card wrong. So we cleared it up, the payment allegedly went through. At this point, I told myself I wouldn't leave a negative yelp review, I just wouldn't be going back. Well yesterday, almost 3 weeks later, I receive 2 more bills and another letter saying my bill was going to collections. I checked my bank statement, the payment went through on the day I called. I'm not sure who runs this office, or if they are hoping that I'll pay it again without thinking or questioning, but no thanks. If you want a competent Doctor, and don't mind the shenanigans of a poorly run office, Dr. Broekelschen is great. I just can't believe I'm still dealing with his office over an appointment I had in the spring. read more

Dr. Broekelschen was great. During my visit he was very thorough and took the time to go through symptoms, treatments, and possible outcomes. He gave me samples of products so that I didn't have to spend additional money on medication for continuing treatment. He steered clear of recommending procedures that weren't applicable or necessary. He's the only reason this isn't a 1-Star review. The real issue with the office lies with the front office. The receptionist is argumentative, rude and short with patients. She told me that she would call my provider to find out approximate pricing before my office visit, which never happened. When I showed up for my appointment, she was very upset that I didn't have my insurance card with me and finally agreed to let me email her the information later. She forgot to run my vitals and wanted me to come back to the office as I was driving home. After the appointment, I was told by the Dr. to call back if my symptoms didn't improve within 1 - 2 weeks. The receptionist told me that I should wait the full two weeks, rather than 11 days before seeking alternative treatment. When I challenged her on this, she became irritated and short. She refused to give me an ETA as to when I might hear back from someone at the office regarding a follow up or a referral. All around, not a great experience at the office. I would recommend the Dr. to anyone, as long as there was a way to avoid having to deal with the unprofessional front office. read more

Dr. Broekelschen is a great doctor. Due to the uncomfortable nature of his practice, he takes the time to talk with you beforehand and evaluate your problem. He also has the decency and caring attitude to talk about your personal life - something lacking in the typical medical field. I've had a colonoscopy done by him and he is gentle and thorough. The unprofessionalism from the woman at the desk is disappointing. I was exposed to Covid and had to reschedule (she rescheduled me). When I got there she wasn't even at the desk and I waited over ten minutes for someone to notice me. When she finally noticed me she told me to wait more and she'll be right with me. When she got with me she said she didn't have an appointment for me that day (when I rescheduled with her). They saw me anyways. The doctor seemed knowledgeable and I liked him. After seeing him I went to get my stats checked (heart rate, blood pressure, etc) and she had me wait more while she made the doctor tea. I had a follow up scheduled and called to cancel due to actually getting Covid. I called on a Saturday for a following week appointment. Left a message. They billed me for the appointment anyways. So I called again to see why I was billed for something I tried to cancel, they said they would get back to me and never did. So I called again and no answer. So I called again and they said they would get back to me. They finally did and said the answering service never received the cancellation call. They are going to talk to the supervisor and get back to me. They are dealing with sick patients here and the amount of time and frustration spent with them doesn't help someone trying to get better. You'd think they'd look into their answering service machine as well since I've called so many times but no. They are just going to talk to them and get back to me, AGAIN. I am giving them one star because I did like the doctor and thought he was knowledgeable. But the receptionist is far from professional and was putting the blame all on me. Highly don't recommend. I'm paying the bill because the amount of hassle going back and forth over a $75 dollar cancellation fee isn't worth it. Normally I would fight it because I called to cancel, but when you are dealing with SICK people, the stress of this is just making me worse, not better. read more

This place is all about the money! If you miss an appointment the charge is $75. If you miss a procedure the charge is $200. If you want to be a patient there they charge you $20. EACH time you go in! They call it a "facility fee!" The $20. is in addition to what they charge your insurance. The explanation is that this is to help the Doctor offset his malpractice fees. Hmmm.. I wonder if he would help me with my high insurance bills? If this Doctor has 10 -15 patients per day he would be collecting $4000- $6000 per month. I can't imagine a malpractice insurance costing that per month and even if it did, that is the Doctors responsibilty and NOT his patients! Will NOT be returning. read more

This guy is tops! He looks like a cross between Leonarda da Vinci, Moses and Einstein. Walks with a gnarled, tree-branch walking staff and has the longish grey hair. He is a great listener and talks with you in his comfy, homey office with kids art on his shelves for a good thirty minutes before even having a look at what's going on with you. He's been around a while and has seen everything. When the quack, Dr. Parikh do not go to him!, gave up on the problem, Brockenschen didn't stop until he found it. I have not had an appointment with the MD, so this rating does not apply to the physician himself. My experience is through my profession, which requires making doctor calls. The receptionist was rude and demeaning. This is not the type of person that should be representing a physician and his practice. There was absolutely no professionalism on her behalf in our phone conversation, and there are plenty of well-qualified people who would excel in the position while maintaining professionalism. read more

Seems odd to find a doctor from Yelp, but I found Dr. B and he was exactly as others reviewed, down to the Einstein look and the cool walking stick. If someone's poking around inside you, you want somebody who is careful and experienced. This guy's been at it for 42 years and he gives you the impression he has never made a mistake...and YOU are not going to be his very first mistake; it's VERY comforting. He insists on a consultation beforehand; he takes you through what he's going to do, what sorts of minor complications you might have, what to watch out for, etc. Very thorough, very professional. Office staff and answering service are mediocre but most these days are much worse. They tell you in writing that you MUST call in for all lab results, good or bad; when I did, the office staff acted like I was from outer space. But a 5 for Dr. B, he is awesome. read more

ok, I kinda love this guy. I call him a cross between Father Time and the Doc from Back to the Future. He's kind and takes his time to talk to you instead of just racing through your appointment. After several GI's were a total disappointment I found this guy- the first one who didn't love the word "colonoscopy"- I found every other GI wants one regardless of your symptoms. I was getting a sharp pain on my left side for awhile- my old GI thought it was muscle spasms and said to "just deal with it" because they were sporadic. Then I ate at a fish place and 36 hours later started getting various GI symptoms- slight nausea, regular urges to use the bathroom and a constant pressure/discomfort in my middle abdomen. I went to my old GI who refused to believe I had any kind of infection and refused to treat me- he wanted a Colonoscopy instead which made no sense. Went in search of a new GI who wouldn't see me as a money making machine and found Dr. Broekelschen. He rolled his eyes at the thought of a colonoscopy and agreed I needed a special lab to run analysis to see if I picked up a parasite or bacteria (turns out the place I ate was shut down 24 hours after I ate there due to ongoing foodborne illness so I was right all along). He also disagreed with the diagnosis of muscle spasms and thought instead, due to the location of the pain, I was getting trapped air bubbles and prescribed an OTC medicine (he said he prefers to find the cheapest, easiest solutions and OTC things are easier for his patients to stick with long term). Anyway, I started taking the OTC pills and voila- so far zero pain. It's still too soon to tell for sure if he was right but I do feel better. So why the 4 stars instead of 5? It's hard to get in to see him on short notice- I had to wait over a week for an appt. even though I was in pain and felt sick everyday. Hopefully as a recurring patient that can change. Other than that so far I really like him. read more

I then had the procedure and while it isn't the most fun thing to do, he was great. He followed up with me with results. I really would recommend him and his office highly.
