At the risk of sounding like a broken record to those who have read several of my reviews, I hate the fact that supermarkets are slowly strangling the entire traditional high street of the UK. Florists, green grocers, post offices, and of course butchers are all slowly being eradicated and assimilated into one big homogenous blob. The loss of the butchers wrangles with me in particularly, probably because it seems as though every advert break we have one of the big chains telling us how their meat is sourced via a man looking suspiciously like what your stereotypical local butcher would, when in actuality these counters are often staffed by people who've only been on the job a week and who have no real idea about the meat they're selling. That's why I always jump at the opportunity to use a local butchers when I see one. The fantastically named Peter Gumbley Quality Meat provides just that, with an outstanding range of meat at prices that more than compete with the supermarkets. Highly recommended. read more
