Dr. Peter Barglow was my psychiatrist when I attended the University of California, Berkeley 2015 to 2019 (graduate program in Geophysics). As part of having ADHD and taking medication, I had the standard requirement of meeting with a psychiatrist approximately every 3 months as part of taking medication. When getting started with the appointments with Dr. Barglow and when adjusting my dosage in relation to changes at work/school, appointments were more frequent.
The office was warm and inviting and Dr. Barglow was a kind and bright fellow. Parking was easy to find each time and I did not ever really have to walk far. Our sessions were about an hour in length each time and included talking over stressors in my life, how my medication was working, any new symptoms, etc. I came to term this talk therapy as it helped me work through some of my problems at work, including difficult supervisor(s).
One aspect I appreciated was that the sessions got me to introspect about what tasks I used the medication for. I found that for the most part my ADHD became more manageable with physical exercise and that the task I needed the medication for the most was reading. As I was in graduate school, reading was something I did a lot of. It was cool to go on a bit of a journey of self-discovery and figure out when to take the medicine so that I could use it for the task(s) I most needed it for. read more
