3 reasons for my one star rating.
1. When I wanted to get off of the medication Shane prescribes, he told me I could taper down over 1 week. Through this experience, I learned that this is absolutely not safe. The withdrawal symptoms I experienced were almost unbearable, like nothing I have ever experienced. Through my own extensive research, I learned the importance of tapering slowly and found support elsewhere. Shane is not at all knowledgable about getting off of the medication he prescribes. Furthermore, he prescribes medication with no plan to get off of it. It is not a short term solution with hope for recovery.
2. Shane prescribed me medication during our first session. He didn't recommend any other natural therapies. In my opinion, doctors should attempt to treat patients with less harmful methods. Psych drugs are shown to have unpleasant side affects, long term harm, withdrawals, and even to shorten your life. None of this was disclosed to me. Shane also prescribed me xanax over a 5 minute phone call, so if you are drug-seeking, this may be the perfect doctor for you.
3. After following Shane's advice to taper over 1 week, I was having an out of body experience. I could no longer sleep or eat and my days were filled with panic attacks. I was unable to get a hold of him. His mailbox was full (so unprofessional). When we did talk, he told me this was my original condition resurfacing. Bullshit! I originally had anxiety. Not diarrhea, nausea, insomnia, panic, and suicidal ruminating thoughts.
Dr Shane is a nice person and probably unaware of the harm he is doing. Please remember that these doctors get paid extra to prescribe medication. They hold deals with particular drug companies so they are much more likely to prescribe those drugs. My hope is that doctors who prescribe psych drugs, like Shane, take the time to keep up with current research and are able to disclose the realities about these drugs so that people like me can understand the implication of taking them. read more
