During my first session with Brandy, I immediately felt home. I don't know what it is, but her coaching style is one that's rooted in peace, freedom, and sincerity. I found Always on Purpose through Yelp and based on the glowing reviews I called right away. I was at a crossroads in my life, trying to decide which direction to take my career (med school as a mom?), and wanting to make decisions that honored my values and my family unit. I remember getting ready to walk into Amy's office for our first session with a spark of hope that this may be the one thing that could work. After spending the majority of my life searching for what is meaningful and striving to achieve those things that could bring me happiness, I found myself much like others who are probably reading this right now - having attained some desires, accepting the absence of others, but with a suspicion that this somehow didn't seem like how I wanted to be living my life. It is going to be really hard to put into words my experience with Amy as it has been incredibly life changing in so many ways but I'll do my best. At first I wasn't sure if I was the right fit for life coaching. In most ways I have a very full and complete life. A fulfilling marriage, two young amazing children, the career I worked so hard to obtain, and plenty of love through my endless support network of friends and family. I was lucky enough to begin meeting with Amy at the start of my promotion to a sales manager. I feel fortunate to have found Amy Wong when I was in a rough spot a few months ago. I met with Amy about once a week and improvement followed so rapidly that we moved to monthly sessions pretty quickly. I started to see Amy because I just didn't know what I wanted, but I knew that I wanted more, both personally and professionally in my life. I wanted someone to help me discern what I wanted, and to help me find the path to go get it. I felt like I was working so hard and just barely keeping my head above water. When she told me that she could teach me how to get what I want-- and it would be easy, fun, exhilarating, it sounded too good to be true. She described it as trying to get through a door, and you're pulling and pulling, but the door won't budge. Then, you notice the door says "push". Opening the door by pushing isn't hard, but it requires a shift in mindset and the use of a different muscle. My life has transformed in so many great ways from meeting and working with Amy Wong!!! When she began coaching me I was at my worst. I had closed a business that I had put my heart in soul into. I have struggled to write this review for Amy for quite some time. The reason being is that I can't find the right words to summarize how impactful coaching has been and how GREAT Amy is at it. As a previous owner of a social club in SF that used to do corporate events, I always though that a happy employee is a productive employee. I've always been a top performer at my job and thought I always gave 100%. It's taken me a long time to write this review -- it seemed daunting for me to try to do justice here to how incredible Amy is and to how working with her changed my outlook, and my life. Honestly, I'm just not that easily surprised or impressed. And -- though I was open to it and ready to do some work -- I was not prepared for the idea that a few hours *on the phone* (Amy and I haven't actually met yet!) could be so impactful and transformative. I cannot begin to describe how radically Amy Eliza Wong has changed my life. When I began working with her, I was at an all time low. All throughout elementary school and high school, I thought that my entrance into college would somehow completely cure me of my depression and anxiety. My reasoning was that college was a fresh start and I could be whoever I wanted to be, so the social anxiety I suffered in high school would vanish. College turned out to be one of the most difficult periods of my life. All of the problems that I thought would vanish were, in fact, exacerbated. I was hopelessly depressed and crippled by anxiety, and although I managed to do well in my studies, I returned home after only one semester. My depression and anxiety then increased astronomically. I'd struggled with suicidal thoughts in the past (middle school and high school), and they returned in college, but none of what I experienced before was even close to what I experienced upon returning home. I felt completely worthless. I was an utter failure. I hated myself more than I could possibly describe. I remember telling Amy once that I felt like I was "a parasite to the world." I thought that I didn't deserve to live, and that the world would be better off without me. I had done traditional therapy before. I saw a therapist my junior and senior years of high school as well as one at the college I attended. I suppose I got some benefit out of it, but I left therapy feeling that I hadn't actually solved any of my problems. Therapy works for a lot of people, but it certainly was not the right solution for me. My therapist could not convince me why I should think a different way. She would tell me things like "you are not worthless" and "you're going to get better," and no matter how many times we both tried to drill those messages in my head, I couldn't believe them. The evidence, in my opinion, simply did not support what my therapist was saying. So to believe what she was saying (that I was not worthless, that I was going to get better) would be a lie. And I wanted the truth. Amy convinced me that these things were true. Her approach is different from traditional therapy, and in my opinion, is far superior. She unearthed my core beliefs about myself and how I fit into the universe through questions and conversations, and slowly brought me to see why my beliefs were wrong. This especially impressive considering how long I had had these beliefs about myself -- how central they had become to my identity -- and what a natural skeptic I am. But her reasoning was sound, and the evidence was most certainly on her side. It almost seems like my therapist was instructing me on how to deceive people into thinking I wasn't worthless, whereas Amy really convinced me that I'm not worthless. At least that's how I view the difference between the two (obviously my therapist was not encouraging me to deceive people). Amy's method of restructuring my core beliefs completely changed my life. I remember one particular session in which we delved into the origins of my social anxiety. After it, I was feeling so happy, so optimistic, that I went to Starbucks of my own volition, and the difference in my social anxiety after just that one session was astronomical. That was my first day of living for myself, and it was incredible. Five or six sessions with Amy is really all it took for me to completely turn my life around. I thought that my life was over. Now I know that it's only just begun. Amy is really that amazing. It hasn't all been easy. But Always On Purpose was the catalyst: I would not be where I am today without Amy. She saved my life. Where am I today? I'm currently working as a tutor five days a week and reapplying to colleges, while playing tennis and socializing with friends. My happiness does not depend on anyone else. I no longer seek confirmation for my worth from other people. I don't place my worth in my accomplishments either. My worth is inherent. I know that now. I'm happier than I've ever been in my life. Amy is truly unique. Not only did she address my depression and anxiety, but she also helped me to overcome a mild eating disorder. I would recommend her services for just about any issue. Going into meeting with Amy for the first time, I had a lot of anxiety... about work, relationships and just day to day things that I've battled and have been anxious about most of my life. After the first session, not only did just talking to Amy for an hour add clarity and make my life feel more purposeful, but I walked away with tangible tools to use each day when I wake up, on my way to work, before I go to bed, etc. Talking things out have always made me feel better temporarily, but anxiety comes right back. The tools that Amy provided me with, and the way that she got me to start thinking about my life truly made a difference in my happiness levels. I have felt more joy, more often. I feel so fortunate to have worked with Amy to change my life around. Having had knowledge in psychology myself, I never envisioned myself needing the help of a shrink. But several months ago, when I found myself at the bottom of a seemingly hopeless problem, I finally resorted to finding a shrink. I found several psychologists through referral as well as Amy on Yelp. Amy's schedule worked the best with me; not only does she work evening hours but we can also work on the phone, which is no less effective than in person sessions. I also learned that Amy is a life coach- the difference is that she focuses on solution rather than finding the problems. After our first session, I felt much calmer about the situation. After that, each session we had was life changing, empowering and eye opening. Amy has such a gift of seeing right through the surface to the core of the issue. A little hard to provide a thorough review of a life coach without providing background, so let's start there. I came to Amy already very comfortable in life with no looming issues. I never had a therapist or coach before. In many ways I was already living the American dream at every level...but something was missing and I needed something or someone to help guide me into the second chapter in life. For many of us, life is relatively sculpted from the beginning and while we of course have ultimate control, the 'paths' of life can be relatively easy to follow. Go to school, get a good job, get married, have kids etc...but the second half of life is the uncharted territory. With the concept of, 'even professional athletes have coaches' I decided to look for a coach. Easier said than done because you need to find someone you will listen to, respect, has similar life experiences, but most importantly will INSIPRE you to grow. Well, now that we are all on the same page, let me focus on Amy. She is everything I just mentioned (which was important to me) and likely everything you need too.
