On Tuesday, I called to order a Sweet Potato Cheesecake for my mother-in-law's birthday (it's her favourite), for pickup on Saturday. I was told there was no need for me to put in a special order - I could just come in the day-of and pick up the cheesecake. The next day (Wednesday), I called to make sure that there would be an option for a Sweet Potato Cheesecake that was not pre sliced. And I was told ALL the cheesecakes would be pre-sliced. I asked if there could be one that was made and not sliced (as we have decorations for the cake) and I was told that if I wanted that option, it needed to be ordered one week in advance!!! How "fresh" are these cheesecakes if ALL I wanted was for one not to be sliced?? Very random and also ZERO flexibility from the person I spoke to one the phone. I'm flying in from DC to Detroit to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday... Last thing we need is terrible service and an inflexible business for something that is a minor request! read more

I visited this establishment today on Father's Day, now I understand you close at 5pm, and it was a customer in the store and 1 leaving as soon as I get out the car, a older gentleman that was sitting got up and told me No I beg him and he shook his head No. I go there often an never had been treated so rude. The cake I was xoming to get is my brother's favorite so I wanted it for Father's Day. I will not return. I've met the owner and his wife and the older lady in the daytime during the week are all lovely people. My friends in Miami and Rotterdam organized having a Peteet's Superman cheesecake delivered to my house for my 40th birthday this year. I wasn't expecting it, and the delivery came from DoorDash, but the entire process was easy, and the cheesecake was delicious, as a fan of Superman ice cream. The cheesecakes was light and flavorful, and most importantly a swirl of red, yellow, and blue. Ten slices came to a whole, which I ate more of than I expected to, but sometimes a slice of cheesecake is the perfect breakfast. I am anxious to try other flavors they offer and their carrot cake! Peteet's Cheesecakes will host a virtual Yelp event this week with cheesecake and bourbon for a lucky selected group of us. In the meantime, I decided to stop by in advance to do a regular customer review and try their sweets for the first time. I was impressed with the inviting and clean interior of the small shop, the friendly service, and the delicious desserts. Peteet's has to be one of the best places to get a cheesecake in metro Detroit. My favorite was the Sweet Potato Cheesecake. It tasted similar to sweet potato pie or pumpkin crunch. I also enjoyed the Party Cupcake. The cupcake was moist and thick with a similar taste and consistency to cheesecake. I am happy to support a locally-owned and black-owned family business. I will be buying more of the sweet potato cheesecake when Thanksgiving rolls around. It's the perfect autumnal dessert. read more

Cheesecake after Mexican is so fantastic. We made it before they closed tonight. The empty looking space next door is their kitchen. There are 4 seats and a bench inside, should you feel so inclined to eat before you leave the place, like we did. Got the Superman cheesecake, the key lime cheesecake and a red velvet cupcake. The superman cheesecake tasted just like the ice cream, such chemical goodness. The key lime cheesecake was fantastic, the cheesecake tasted just like a keylime pie and the crust is crunchy and somewhat crumbly, in a good way. I can't say enough positive things about Peteet's Famous Cheesecakes. I stopped by Peteet's one afternoon to pick up some celebratory cheesecake, after looking for the best cheesecake in the Royal Oak/ Ferndale area online. Resoundingly, Peteet's won the most glowing reviews I saw, so it was a no brainer to swing by and try for myself. The staff was super helpful in directing me to my best options (they have such a selection it's easy to get overwhelmed with the prospect of making a decision), and I ultimately went for a cheesecake with Strawberry topping, which is reportedly their bestseller. The cost is very reasonable and there are tons of options, including cheesecake by the slice as well as half and full cakes. The icing on the cake (hah, get it) is that the taste is to die for. It sets a new standard in my mind for "Good Cheesecake" and the only thing I worry about now is that all other cheesecakes will be forever subpar. Alas, but not a bad problem to have as long as Peteet's is in business! read more

I read a lot of good reviews but saw some critical ones and I thought this place would be overrated but I was super impressed!! I didn't love every single thing I tried here but the things that are delicious really are above and beyond. We ordered the oreo cookie cheesecake which is two large oreo cookies with this whipped cheesecakey middle which is surprisingly not that sweet and sooo delicious!! The nice kid/guy? Who was there said his favorite was the strawberry cheesecake. Not typically my go to we tried it and it is not super sweet, with a hint of strawberry and really really good. I keep meaning to write this up and I forget until I am hungry for cheesecake again. Yeah, I'm hungry for cheesecake again so it looks like I will be making the hike. You know this is damn good cheesecake as I hate driving all the way to this side of town and yet I still do it. I too first sampled this cheesecake at the Yelp event at the DYC. It was the sweet potato varietal and it was heavenly. So heavenly in fact, I dragged my behind over here to get a whole one for a family event and found it was no fluke. They gave me samples and further hooked me in, they do this every time you darken their door. Evil genius idea really as yes I have returned based on those tastes. The almond cheesecake rocks (droolicious) as does the strawberry to a slightly lesser degree but my absolute fave remains the sweet potato. The cheesecake here is just the right texture, being neither too heavy nor too airy. It's solid and filling without overwhelming you. The flavors are true and not overly sugared up. My husband likes the cheesecake brownies but they are not my particular thing. The cheesecake cupcakes are fun but I'd rather just get a slice of the real deal. Bc of all the fab reviews, my sweet tooth friend and I decided to have our lunch date here. There is a private lot which is great! There are two tables for you to enjoy your cheesecake at. Most people take theirs to go. I got the French Vanilla Cappuccino Cheesecake and my friend got something I don't remember. The cheesecake was good but not the best cheesecake we've ever had. It is about $3.75 for a small slice of cheesecake which is a bit pricy but it comes in its own little plastic container and if you eat there they give you a plastic spoon. Definitely still a place you should check out! They also give out free samples. Who doesn't love free. Also you get a card for buy 10 slices get the 11th free. Awesome sauce! read more

Happy national cheesecake day! I picked the right day to try this place out because they were giving 20% off and a free slice of cheesecake!!! Woohoo! The picking were a little slim but I wasn't worried about it, I opted for a slice of Oreo. It was good, but not earth shattering. The oreo's were simply on the top of the cheesecake, not inside like I had hoped. They also use a traditional graham cracker crust but I think an Oreo crust would have been delicious. The flavors are good but personally, I prefer an Italian style cheesecake which is lighter and airy. But that is just personal preference. I also thought that $3.95 a slice was a bit steep for the size of the slice. All in all, it was good cheesecake but not my all time favorite. I stumbled upon this cheesecake bakery by sheer happenstance. Please note, free samples of cheesecake are offered! I tried the blueberry, eggnog (flavored with real bourbon and you can taste it) strawberry, peach cobbler, and red velvet which is chocolate morphed into mouthbliss. When one of the owners said they plan on rolling out 30 flavors each month I jumped up and down. I can't think of a better reaction to that news. Try a slice of your favorite flavor (mine is the pineapple) and then try the cupcake sized cheesecake. The outer layer on my cupcake was strawberry flavored cheesecake, while the inside was filled with a vanilla cheesecake base. Let your tastebuds jump up and down to that. This is an excellent place for a creamy, smooth cheesecake in a tasty graham cracker crust. This is not a chalky, New York style thick slab of cheesecake. They serve smooth, moderately sized pieces of dessert goodness. I have tried a few of their flavors and the "Appletini" flavored cheesecake was spectacular...fresh, smooth, soft and creamy with a pleasant green apple flavor that was not too overpowering. I would definitely get another slice of this flavor any time it is available. The store is very clean and the free samples help customers decide which flavors they would like a whole slice of. There are always slices available from a variety of flavors and whole cakes are available behind the glass as well. The prices reflect the premium product they sell, so a whole cheesecake is a little expensive, but the people you share these tasty treats with will be so happy you purchased quality over quantity. read more

I've been an ongoing customer at Peteet's Cheesecakes for 6 years now. I first learned about Peteet's after I went to a Vodka Vodka event in Royal Oak. The staff from Peteet's Cheesecakes had a table at the event, serving samples of Vodka infused cheesecakes. I was impressed after tasting the sample cheesecakes, so I started following them on Facebook, and when I would come from Kalamazoo to the Detroit area to visit family over the weekend, I would go buy slices to take back home with me. I've tried several different slices; Sweet Potato, Banana, and Cookies and Cream cheesecake slices. I've never had a complaint about any of the cheesecakes I've had from there. All of is has been very good in my opinion. Customer service has always been satisfactory, and I like the fact that this is a family owned business. I would definitely support this business again, and I have recommended so many of my family members and friends to try Peteet's. read more

I am beyond disappointed and I really have no idea how this place got such good ratings. I got the sweet potato cheesecake because it supposedly is their specialty but it was mediocre at best. I've had better homemade cheesecake from family members and I would never order this again. Basically it taste like whipped cream cheese with cinnamon on a premade crust. I also tried one of the superman cookies because it looked pretty sweet but again... I've had better cookies from the Walmart bakery... seriously. There is nothing special about either of these items and I would never make the trip out for them again. Luckily, they were affordable but this place was completely overrated. I don't even usually like cheesecake but Peteet's Famous Cheesecake is amazing! During my first visit I decided to try the red velvet cheesecake and the german chocolate cheesecake. Once I tasted the red velvet cheesecake I immediately regretted not getting more items from there. Flash forward 2 days later I came back and got 2 bags full of goodies. The second time I went I got to meet the owner who was super nice.
