Smash Mouth put on an awesome hometown show this past Friday, free with RSVP. There was already a long line for entry an hour before the ticket time, which I guess makes sense since they noted that doors would close once the venue hit max capacity. It never quite reached that point as Pete Be Center is very spacious, with simple decor and spiral staircases at the corners leading to balcony areas above the restrooms on both sides of the stage. A few bar stools available up there as well, and small bar too. Though the event start time was 9:00pm, doors were already open around 8:15pm, and the headliner didn't come in till around 11:10pm, doing their thing for a little over an hour. We had a blast as they performed crowd pleasers like "All Star" as well as hits from their original album with some ska for attendees. The DJ also played some great tunes before the concert and in between sets, with songs like Livin' on a Prayer, Sweet Child O' Mine, and a little bit of Journey in the mix. Sound and lighting for the headliners were pretty decent. And I liked that there were two bars available on the main floor. However, drink offerings were somewhat limited and communication by staff was problematic. We first went to the bar on the right side at entry and were told that they only serve hard liquor mixed drinks, like vodka cranberry (or orange or pineapple), cocktails may be a premixed version, and they "don't have sugar free redbull anymore." Fine. We ended up grabbing a spiked arnold palmer and it was actually tasty and not too sweet. Later we went to the bar on the left side (facing the stage), and the staff here was much friendlier and told us about one of their canned beverages, the finnish long drink, a citrusy gin concoction we tried and ended up enjoying. She also noted that they did indeed have sugar free red bull, so I was delighted to get my preferred cocktail (though disappointed that the first bartender on the other side gave me misleading information). Other than the bar issues, this is a lovely venue. And we had a memorable night with the sounds of Smash Mouth creating an entertaining fun-filled atmosphere. read more

They booked a rapist Music in the Park will not be producing the Bassnectar show in San Jose on July 25, 2026. According to representatives for Bassnectar, the show will instead take place at Pete Be Center, located at 439 S. 1st Street, San Jose, CA, in the city's SoFA District. The venue is approximately three blocks from Plaza Park, formerly Plaza de César Chávez, where the Music in the Park series is traditionally held. Tickets for the concert are no longer being sold through the locally-based CalTix service. Bassnectar is using the Tixr ticketing platform for this show. Fans who previously planned to attend Bassnectar's Music in the Park performance will receive information concerning the status of their tickets via email before the event. The other two concerts on the same weekend, Freestyle Explosion on July 24 and War/Malo/Los Yesterdays on July 26, remain unaffected and will continue as planned. read more

Pete Be Center hosted the after party for the Cinequest Yelp Elite event. It was my first time here and the venue is pretty spacious and located near the downtown area. Service provided by employees was above and beyond. They made the round and made sure every one had something to eat and/or drink. The appitizers kept coming out and some servers passed them out to the guest in attendance. Drinks were poured all night. Had an amazing time here. read more

We were here last night for the after party for the Cinequest Film Festival. We were warmly greeted at the door and were shown where the food and drinks were. There was a bar set up on both sides of the venue. Beer and wine were complimentary. They offered a variety of wines from J. Lohr Vineyards. They had a variety of hors d'oeuvres. There was a section of offerings presented by Scott's seafood. They had shrimp cocktail, vegetarian stuffed mushrooms and mini crab cake tostadas. All were Amazing. There was also a section that had pork tamales, cauliflower-corn fritters, tortilla chips, guacamole and salsa. There were also trays of appetizers being passed around that had mini bean empanadas and mini beef Wellington's. There was music loudly being played in the background and a lot of people having a great time. We had fun with our fellow help friends Lloyd and Henry and their lovely wives. All in all, it was a really fun night. read more

This is my second time coming here for an after party. The music is VERY VERY LOUD, good but loud "lol" I put in my Apple pro 3's in my ears and put them on the noise, cancellation setting "that seems to work perfectly" The venue is pretty good with 2 bars one on the left and one right side. Plenty of space to dance if you so choose. I feel like for a large crowd that they need some more standing barrels for people to put their food on and intermingle with others. They had security both times that I've been there which is nice, the security detail also were friendly towards people :-) Overall wifey and I had a pleasant experience " once I put my air pods in my ears" I would definitely come back again, my suggestions would be to maybe tell the DJ to turn down the music a little and add more barrels, so people can enter mingle with one another. read more

This was the 2nd time attending a Yelp After Party at Pete Be Center. Spacious place with two lines of appetizers (crabmeat Tostadas, Huge Shrimp Cocktail, and sauteed mushrooms) from Scott's Seafood and another place which served chicken tamales, fried cauliflower, and tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole. Also, they had servers walking around with appetizers. Two bar areas for beer and wine. DJ was playing some club music. The staff was friendly and constantly clearing off dirty plates and drinks. Highlight of the evening was meeting actress Ainsley Seiger who starred in Law & Order: Organized Crime as Jet Slootmaekers. read more

This is my first time here. The space is a pretty good size and there's a stage and vip seats that are reserved. There are also 2 bars for drinks (1 on each side). Pete owned tiki Pete downtown (which his son now owns) and he opened this event center. I Recommend it. Fair warning with the music playing it gets real loud in the place read more

Venue is ok but the experience was terrible and I felt unsafe. Would NOT come back here - also ladies please be aware of your drinks!

Independent music venue in SoFA is great to have. Good sound, drinks and venue space.

The owner of this venue supports and gives platform for artists (Lorin Ashton aka Bassnectar) that are known sexual predators with allegations and evidence from multiple women who were underage at the time of the crimes (please Google the "Lorin Ashton lawsuit" for reference and read the official court documents). This artist has been ostracized from the EDM community since 2020 and is attempting to make a comeback via small shows and careless venues. I do not feel safe or comfortable attending shows here at Pete Be Center in the future given the statements the owner has made regarding this issue. Given his statements (see photo/screenshot I added of the Instagram message exchange between the owner and my friend that messaged him) it can be presumed that he would allow or excuse this type of predatory and unsafe behavior at his venue and events. I feel it is necessary to post this review and bring awareness to this issue especially for women in the music scene who may attend shows here in the future. read more

This venue made me and my group of people feel very unsafe. When we brought up what happened to the manager they told me since the people were never charged they can't do anything. Apparently they only care about what is on paper and not what people are doing inside their venue. Watch your drinks closely if you ever come here. read more
