Unprofessional Grooming Staff and Poor Sanitation. I've been bringing my chihuahua to this grooming salon for about a year. However, my last two experiences were unacceptable. About two months ago, right after picking her up, I noticed she had fleas that same evening -- plus she still smelled bad, as if she hadn't been bathed at all. I treated her immediately and decided to mention it at her next visit so they could make sure to disinfect the salon properly. At the next appointment, I calmly explained the situation to the front desk associate, Emily, speaking quietly so as not to embarrass anyone. Instead of acknowledging my concern, she started raising her voice, accusing my dog of having fleas and refusing service. When I tried to clarify that my dog had already been treated and I was only alerting them about a possible salon issue, Emily asked another female staff to join in, and she was also yelling. I was shocked by how unprofessional and defensive they were. If this is how they treat customers in public, it raises serious concerns about how they treat the pets when owners aren't around. Needless to say, I did not leave my dog there and will not be returning. We've since switched to Blue Pooch, where the staff is kind, professional, and gentle -- and my chihuahua always comes home clean, happy, and flea-free (and it's even more affordable!). Please offer Emily some serious customer service training and lots of earwax removal! read more

Petco Vetco: Store Staff Are Great, Vetco Is a Disaster. Let me be clear: the employees who work in the Petco store itself are knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, the Vetco clinic operating inside is a completely different story--and it's one I wouldn't wish on any pet owner. I was told by Petco checkout staff that no appointment was needed for Vetco services. So I showed up with a rescue kitten, expecting a smooth experience. Instead, I was met with confusion, contradiction, and a total lack of professionalism. The girl checking pets in refused to take my kitten, saying I needed an appointment. Then someone working with her said they could take the kitten. As I was checking in, the same girl changed her story again--this time saying I couldn't be seen because I hadn't had the kitten for seven days. Then she claimed she couldn't even schedule an appointment because I wasn't "in the system." I am in the system. I have a membership. I was able to log in online and see available appointments. But after this chaotic, dismissive experience, I won't be using Vetco again. To make matters worse, I tried calling the store manager to report the issue. His response? A little attitude and a lot of indifference. He basically said, "What do you want me to do about it?" and "I don't have time right now--we're kind of busy." With the exception of the manager, Petco's retail team deserves praise. Vetco, however, is disorganized, inconsistent, and not worth your time. If you care about your pet's well-being, find a real vet. read more

Gianna (the manager) and Emily (the groomer)... the incompetence of both was staggering. I brought my dog in for a scheduled grooming appointment with Emily. Upon standing in the grooming lobby waiting for 10 minutes, I finally make eye contact with Gianna (the manager) who kept darting her eyes in an attempt to pretend she didn't see me stranded and standing there for all this time. That should have been my first red flag... She begrudgingly walks over towards the grooming room, no greeting, signals for Emily to walk out, and Emily who looks...unwell (putting it mildly) steps out to the front desk huffing and puffing. Emily proceeds to lie and tell me I rescheduled the appointment. I show her the text that proves I didn't. She then admits to her dishonesty and says "I'm eating my lunch, can you come back later, like in an hour?"...You wanted to eat you your lunch, lied about me rescheduling my appointment and tell me to come back in an hour? Zero remorse or apology, and to the contrary, she seemed frustrated to be there and ...out of it. Gianna wobbles her way over, with as much disinterest as one could muster, and says "yeah, she should have probably called you." No, she should have obliged the scheduled appointment. I ask "is this how you treat guests and their time?" She verbatim says "what do you mean?" ....again, the lack of self awareness. Lesson learned, won't be returning and looks like I'm in good company with that philosophy. read more

BE CAREFUL GETTING YOUR PETS FOOD HERE. I've gotten a bag of dog for my dog and when it was opened it was filled with worms and larvas. Went back to get another bag the same thing happened and when I went to grab another brand there was a worm crawling out of the corner of the bag. I don't know if their warehouse or store shelves are infested but it's very dangerous to feed your dog this stuff so take precautions and check through your dogs food if purchased here. read more

This particular Petco location has a great and friendly staff. It's in a really nice and upscale part of Weho so I like coming here for all my pet Rats needs (I have 3 they and they make really good loyal pets despite alot of misconceptions). I also recently purchased a large 20 gallon fishtank from here as I dipped my toes into (no pun intended) being a fish daddy. The fishtank was on sale for a reasonable price, I also purchased some rocks, gravel, and structures for the fish to play with and live around. However when I got home and set up the fliter it not work properly. At this point I had already filled the tank with water, added all the rocks and the Spongebob Squarepants pineapple I bought for my fishies but I could not add this fish because the FILTER WAS BROKEN. I tried to return just the filter and explained the situation and since I purchased everything as a kit together in order to get a new filter I would have to dump out all the water, take out all the rocks, bring in the glass aquarium and get a whole new kit instead of just giving me a filter. I dont blame the employees for this as they were just following protocol but come on Petco give a fish daddy a break. For $49 more dollars I purchased a 3rd party filter and was able to get the tank working. I wish they had a little more empathy for a new pet owner. Still a nice location in the Weho area and close to some fancy coffee shops where one time I saw Shakira getting an oat milk Latte. I wasn't starstruck or anything because thats LA baby! read more

When I started shopping here last year, this particular location only had 2-3 shopping carts, which were often in use so I usually had to carry heavy cat litter to the cash register, and then to my car. Not a big deal. But then I asked the worker today if there was any way to request more shopping carts so I could avoid straining my back and grab more things in one trip, and he said in a really rude and condescending manner, "oh, we placed an order for more shopping carts and they haven't arrived yet, but thanks for asking." I mean, sorry for asking? And also, why lie? I actually didn't purchase anything from here, but I do want to say I received wonderful help from a lovely associate I'll call 'Jesse.' Unfortunately, I was here seeing if they had any cards for bereavement of ones pet, and although they do not carry such a thing here, they went online for me to see if one of their competitors had them (they did) and then provided me with the closest store for me to go to from my current location. Instead of just saying PetCo didn't have cards/dismissing me, Jesse went above and beyond with their assistance. This meant a lot to me since it was a sad time, and you don't see this kind of help very often in any kind of customer service anymore. When I do need something for a pet as a present for someone, I will be happy to give PetCo my business. I sure hope my next trip here will be a happy one. read more

The dog grooming department in this store needs a serious overhaul! I'm keeping this simple: PetCo; remove the staff and restart! The general three star rating for all the PerCo stores within a twenty mile radius clearly indicate a lack on the corporate level of simply implementing change. This is a place where people bring their beloved animals; yet, clients and pets are treated in a manner that is unprofessional and unacceptable! I signed up three month ago for my pup and his brother for his nail trimmings. $20 for a five minute service and I certainly tip generously! I usually venture into the store to shop for the dogs... This time, the front desk asked for Rabies verification: I expressed that info was provided for the first visit and sign in. "it's not in the computer..." I presented a picture of the vets plaque with my pets name and rabies vaccination. She now exclaims: "...I need the expiration date... it's required...!" It's the "tone" that irked me. Not even the decency to get up or look up from her sitting position. I would gladly ignore that receptionist's dull notion that my pup's birthday in the computer showed the dog is 9 month old... probably won't need an other vaccination for three years! But she was so dismissive and unfriendly - both of us decided to bring our business somewhere else. Now, after reading the other reviews below; I cannot imagine why PerCo would keep this team employed! Everyone working in this corner should be fired! A bunch of incompetent, rude and unqualified people with no sense for care or service! Placed an order online for pick up under my name - Kassie. Ran some errands for a few hours, then went to this location to pick up the order, assuming it would be a straightforward process. I gave them my name and verified exactly what I ordered. The woman told me I gave her the incorrect name for the order and therefore I had to provide the email to verify my order. I didn't have the email with me, so I told her I could verify it any other way, with the email on file, the card used to pay for it, etc, but it turned into her being rude and questioning me how I even knew the order was ready if I didn't have the email etc etc. So I had to buy the food off her, had to call for a refund of the online order the next day, and all this for me to double check what name I put down as the pick up person, which was.... my name - the name I gave her in the first place. Though I understand why she wouldn't give me the order with the wrong name, they obviously put the wrong name on the order and then were completely unhelpful and rude to me for no reason. read more

I am not quite sure what happened to my dog Pierre... I'm hoping nothing...but im feeling more certain that something definitely happened when I got him groomed here. During Covid times our regular groomer had shut down for a month or so and I took him to this location In December. I was told my dog would be able to come home in three hours when It got to 3 3/4 hours later I called and I asked if my Pierre ready to come home? they said that they were sorry but he need another 30 minutes. So I drive there and I waited that even an extra 5-10 mins time (after the 30 they told me) and went to go pick him in my car. *This was the month of December 2020. I had paid for extra services for holiday (a package to clean teeth etc) which is silly things but it mounted probably to $20... But when I arrived even waiting extra 10 minutes after the 30 minutes they told me to wait... She said she wasn't finished cutting his hair and she still had to clean his teeth and it would only take 10 minutes. I was shocked that all the extras were a 10 minute process. I didn't like that at all. I don't want her to short come us. I just wasn't understanding things at all.I went inside and the girl said she needs another 10 minutes. She showed me my dog Pierre and he was practically bald and I was in shock but what was worse was that he had sepuer crusted tears to a level I've never seen before. He pretty much was almost hairless and had tears that we're just stuck around his troughs and she didn't even think anything of it and just showed me my dog with all the crust on his face. then the girl proceeded to tell me that she nipped him with the razor or something and for that reason she'll give me a discount and she tried to show me an area where that happened and I couldn't see what she was trying to show me there was no knick or wound or anything. Since he's been there he shook for about four weeks all day all night almost constant I'm not exaggerating he was constantly shaking the past two weeks now that it's in mid January he stop shaking at night but he breeze very heavy and if I pick him.up he is extremely sensitive if I try to pick him up from his bottom and he starts to cry I have no idea what's happened to him. We had taken him to the vet before he went just as a regular check up and after and he has lost significant weight and that was not all hair weight. I pray that nothing really serious happened to him but he has not been the same it's as if he aged two years maybe even five years everything is so difficult for him now it was so knight in day. When I brought a man he would jump everywhere he would be so happy when I brought him home he can't jump on the sofa he doesn't care about playing with toys I don't know what happened to him but I am just writing this review because I want there to be some record of some thing. I don't want anybody to go through this. i'm not even sure what happened but something had to have happened this is not normal my dog has not only gone to the same grandma his whole life he's gone to another Petco I never had this problem I hope I didn't take years off his life taking him here. I pray that he's going to recover spin well over a month almost two... I pray nobody else has the situation. I genuinely believe there is something wrong and the severity of his mood his demeanor and his behavior the fact that he won't even jump on the sofa but she's done daily it's hard for him to walk he lost so much weight and he's frail and bony something happen there and I don't even know what to do about it because they don't know what supposedly happened in their words. Simple Hair cut turned in to an emergency vet visit. On 1/6/2021 we brought our 4 pound Yorkie in for a bath and haircut. We dropped him off around 2pm and started calling to see if he was ready a few hours later. We finally heard back from the store manager around 6pm. She said there was "an incident", and he needed to go to the vet immediately. We were horrified and rushed to the vet to meet them. We live one block away from this location and arrived 10 mins before our dog. He needed stitches on his leg and was sent home. Our little baby is absolutely traumatized. As for the actual grooming that was done, his hair looks like it was cut randomly around his body with no method whatsoever, like little chunks are gone from different areas. Don't learn this lesson the hard way and always verify you are leaving your pet with a LICENCED GROOMER. I just learned that there is no state requirement to hold a license and assumed that a large brand like Petco would have some kind of standard. I was wrong. Beware. read more

Since Petsmart closed their nearby store this has been my go to store for my pet needs. It is conveniently located on the border of Beverly Hills and West Hollywood at the intersection of Melrose and Santa Monica Blvd. convenient parking in front of the store. They have a dog grooming salon on site, but no veterinarian services or doggie day care. They have a good selection of pet food with all of the popular brands represented. My only complaint with this store is several times I have come to this store to pick something up to only find out it is not available. I'm not sure if it is a chain supply issue or just an ongoing problem with Petcos inventory in general. I have always found the associates very helpful and knowledgeable and there is never a wait to get service from a cashier. read more

I have been a frequent customer at the West Hollywood Petco for about 20 years. From the moment I walk in I am always greeted with a smile and reassured if I needed anything not to hesitate to ask. Every single one of the employees has always shown genuine passion for animals in the way they interact with both customers and pets alike. A while ago while checking out Johnny (who always greets with a warm welcome and smile in his cool red bandana) took the time to explain all about their Vital Care Program and how much I could be saving, and boy did he help me save a ton of money. While adding me to the system we encountered an issue on my account, but he didn't hesitate to quickly grab the phone and contact headquarters to make sure they correct the issue so that he can properly continue the process. Thanks for that Johnny. On my recent visit I had the pleasure of being assisted by Manny. I went in to purchase litter and while checking out he started a friendly conversation about my pets, which then turned to discussing what food we were feeding our pets. His knowledge about various pet products was impressive, and he patiently answered all my questions, guiding me to exactly what I needed. Not only did they help me find the right products, but also took the time to educate me on proper pet care and offered valuable tips and insights that I had never considered before to ensure my pet's well-being. I value the fact that he went above and beyond to ensure that I had everything I needed to provide all my fur babies with the best possible care, not only as a store associate but more as a fellow pet owner. Never made me feel rushed and made sure I left Petco feeling confident that I had made the best choices. I must add he also helped me add all my other pets into the Vital Care system and let me tell you I was so happy to see all the money I was saving. Totally worth it! Thank you Manny! The only groomer that can groom my dog properly is Andrew and I am so upset that I called to find out he is no longer working there. I followed him to Doheny from his previous location. I refer everyone to Andrew as he can handle difficult breeds, disabled seniors and terrified cats. If anyone knows where Andrew lands, please send me a message. I've been taking my golden doodle there since she was a baby, once a week Or every 2 weeks , she has grown and is 60 pound beautiful large dog, first time that she came in more dirty and knotted and they worked longer on her. On which I pay extra of course, than the following appointment 10 days later they very rudely , cancelled on me an hour before in a threatening tone telling me my dog can only come if she'll get an haircut , I agree and made the first available appointment for 6 days later. Brought her in to haircut appointment, and they again very rudely said they can only shave her otherwise she can't come anymore! Who shaved golden doodle?! I have been bringing my dogs to Petco Grooming for so many years - they just adore Elder and he is so fantastic with them. I was about to drop them off for an early Spring cut but learned that they FIRED Elder! He has worked at this location for 14 years - and out of the blue they just fired him. I have been to many places in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood and Elder was always the best. People stop me on the streets to comment about how cute and happy thy look. I will never go back to this location. Not only were they so dumb to fire Elder, he was absolutely the VERY BEST! (I was able to track Elder down and will be going to see him for my dog's grooming) but I just wanted to say the neighborhood feel I have had for this location is now long gone. I was loyal to this place because Elder was there - they fire their manager of 14 years?? I was told a new manager they took from the sales floor let him go - not smart - me and my dogs will be going wherever Elder goes. read more

I like this store, but IMHO the Spa is challenging. Here's why... My husband made the mistake of telling a different Petco location that our puppy had taken a Vet prescribed anti-anxiety medication prior to a grooming appointment over a month ago. They refused to groom her at that point sighting company policy (we took her to The Heathy Spot with no issues). This information about her taking a Vet prescribed anti-anxiety pill (for grooming and Vet visits) must have been entered into a company-wide database because I just tried making an appointment at this location and this is what happened... NOTE: She's 8 months now and much more confident and no longer taking the medication. So, I was so surprised when Mark, the spa manager was giving me such a hard time when I just tried to make an appointment because A) he didn't believe me when I said she wasn't currently on the medication and hadn't been for over a month. And, B) when I repeatedly offered to get a Doctor's note to prove 1) why she was on the medication in the first place and 2) that she's no longer on it, it didn't make a difference. I ended the call scratching my head and suggesting I should speak to the GM, but honestly, I just don't have the energy for that right now given everything that is going on in the world. Back to The Healthy Spot. To Petco management - Listen to customers. Hear them out. Work with them. Setting appointments shouldn't be this hard. Washing a puppy is not brain surgery.
