It's taken me a while to write this because I found it very upsetting. We took my Pom/Poodle Mix in to be groomed at this location for the second time about a month ago. I settled on a 7 blade because he needed to be groomed and shaving was their immediate, only option given, and the 7 length they showed wasn't that short. When I came back, he was shaven down much shorter. He was not matted prior, and we verified this with the groomer before we left to ensure they wouldn't do anything I didn't want. He has a double coat and shouldn't have been shaved with what was, at least, a 2 or 3 blade. It was much, much shorter than I agreed to, you could see his pink skin through his fur. It made him very uncomfortable and cold. The shave and the few areas that were actually cut were very choppy. His ears were longer, as I asked for, but only one was actually v-shaped - the other was cut straight across and forgotten about. They didn't shave around the muzzle as I asked them to, but they charged an extra ten for it anyway. ??? He came back looking like a civil war general around the muzzle. Overall, it looked very rushed, which was really disappointing because he was there for 4 hours because we agreed to give them more time since they were running behind. They indicated no behavioral problems, only that he didn't really like his feet messed with (which we spoke with the groomer about beforehand, as he once had his paw pad shaved off by a groomer at another grooming facility). The staff has always been nice, but seemingly unskilled in his fur type, or perhaps uncomfortable with poodle mixes. It's seemingly very hard to find one who won't just shave them down, regardless if they actually have mats or not. read more

My granddaughter has been wanting roly-poly enclosure for over four months. We went to this Petco to get her everything she needed when she got home. She was shaking from excitement. She set up the tank and poured in the roly-poly. They were supposed to be five, but there was only one and the one that there was was dead. Her face dropped in tear started pouring. Out of the stores I've been to in my whole life this has been one of my worst experiences I have ever had. read more

Not very organized and very little variety. The only item I consistently find in this store is my brand of dog food (royal canin). Other than that, I struggle to find what I'm looking for every time I visit. Took my dog here for grooming and he came back with kennel cough. My wife recently dropped our 9-month-old puppy (mini labradoodle, approx 20lbs) off at Petco. We have used them twice before with no complaints from the other groomers. Today we got someone new (Angela) and before my wife was able to see our dog or pay, she was subjected to an extremely patronizing speech in which we were told that our dog didn't like to be touched near the mouth and disliked having her legs extended. No mention was made of any snapping or biting or anything that could have hurt the groomers, although given the size of our pup it would be unlikely that she could do any real damage. In nine months, we have never known her to be unusually averse to touching. In fact, we always talk about how lucky we are that she tolerates bath time and grooming so well. She literally stands there in the bathtub and just passively allows you to scrub her and wring out her limbs like a wet dish towel. I've never had a dog who was so chill about being groomed. We have also observed her during veterinary inspections and didn't see any undue anxiety or aggression there either. And, as I said, this behavior wasn't reported to us during the last two grooming sessions. Anyway, this talk, which apparently started with "we need to have a discussion about your dog's behavior," went on for about 20 minutes while our pup could be heard yowling and crying in the background. My wife said she felt as though she had been called into the principal's office. Then, at the end of this scolding, they began to pitch their $19 a month care program, saying that she needed to come in more often. My wife said she felt like during this spiel they were keeping our dog hostage so they could sell her on this package. I am absolutely livid about this. Let me just say I'm not one of those people who defends their kid or puppy every time someone has a problem with them. It's possible that on this occasion our dog was a little psycho for some reason (most likely because she didn't like the groomer). But you can make mention of that to the owners without subjecting them to a lengthy diatribe followed by a sales pitch. We won't be back. read more

This Petco location should have way higher than a 3-star average. We've taken our dog here from training as well as grooming and they do an amazing job with both services. Crystal was our dog's trainer, Stephanie grooms him, and both are A+ people. Very friendly staff and super easy to schedule. Rates are very reasonable for both training and grooming. Would recommend them to friends and family. read more

I use this store all the time. Crystal is kind and knowledgeable as a trainer, and Alyla did an outstanding job of grooming my pup. We also visit, constantly, for toys, treats and supplies. My 8 month old Goldendoodle gets fired up when we enter the parking lot. I don't know how anyone could be dissatisfied with this store. Just got a new betta fish and the lady who is in charge of the fish section knew EVERYTHING!! SO helpful. I upgraded my tank system and she got me a coupon at the checkout. Also, literally was an expert on betta fish and gave me a food sample before I ran out the door. My guy is currently loving his new home and setup. This is a hard review to write because overall I find the staff at this store very nice. However, having to deal with the corporate phone when trying to make a grooming appointment has caused me to take my dog elsewhere. I had an appointment that was cancelled by Petco. I was offered two times to come in a few days later. I called back to confirm and was on hold for grooming for more than three minutes. I called back and got connected to Customer Service and that is where things fell apart. I asked the employee if I could bring my dog in about 20 minutes early as the time offered to me caused a conflict for me. Instead of assuring me that would be alright she told me that she needed to check with the groomer and that should would get back to me. I was taken aback as Petco cancelled on me - and should be working with me to reschedule. I said okay and hung up. Then I remembered there was a brand-new local veterinary office that offered grooming. I called there and made an appointment at the time that worked for me. I called Petco back to cancel and got the same young lady- and I told her my concerns and that I was cancelling and she said 'fine.' With another grooming death yesterday Petco should revisit everything. I will never bring my dog back there to be groomed. read more

We have been lucky to have Maddie for a groomer. Our dog is timid and so fearful at the groomer that I have always dreaded when it is necessary. Maddie makes it easy now because she is very kind and gentle and I know our dog will relax. She always looks so well groomed afterwards. She receives compliments about her appearance and her sweet blue bow. This is all thanks to Maddie. We are so grateful to her! read more

This Petco is very convenient if you shop at the Giant in the same strip mall. I go here to get pet food that I can't find in the grocery store. Also the staff at this location, or at least one lady who always seems to be manning the register in the evenings, are very nice and helpful. On the minus side, the store does not seem to carry a wide variety of items for cats, nor do they restock reliably. I bought a couple of litterboxes which I really liked, went back a couple months later to get another and they hadn't restocked that type (which was nothing unusual apart from being large). The store layout is strange - they seem to have a lot of floor space with the cat and dog essentials in the back, which I expect (they want you to walk through the store to get what you actually came for) but the cat and dog aisles are so short, small and cramped that I can barely get a shopping cart down the aisle and turned around - and when you're buying big heavy bags of food you need a shopping cart. I wish they would get rid of the long aisles of small pets for sale (Adopt, don't shop) and rearrange the floor space so dog and cat buyers would have more room to maneuver. When you go to check out, the registers are stuck in a weird corner of the store and I've actually gotten lost trying to find them, then it's a pain to maneuver your cart around a bunch of barriers to the counter. Prices are not great and they don't seem to have as many sales and specials as Pet Supplies Plus. If not for the convenience I probably wouldn't knock myself out to shop here. read more

Worst treatment I have ever received as a consumer. Aliya, the new manager of the grooming department told me I was late (which I wasnt) for Spencers grooming appointment. Then told me begrudgingly that "she would take him, but she didnt know when she would get him done because I was late." I kindly informed her that the man I made the appointment with, the last time I was in the store told me to drop him off between 9-10:00. She more or less told me I was lying and then said once again, Look, Ill take him, but you were late. I replied that I couldnt believe how I was being treated and that we would never set foot in there again and I left. DONT TAKE YOUR PET TO ALIYA AT THIS STORE! If she treats dogs the way she treats people- your poor pup will have a rotten day. read more

I would not buy an animal from Petco again. They sent me home (NE Philadelphia) with an injured hamster, even after having it for 2 weeks and with me asking if it needs medicine. Then I had to take it back to the west chester location. They had it for 2 weeks and the injury did not get better. They were going to sell me an injuried hamster without even looking if the hamster was ready. Do not purchase any small animals from this store. They are wreckless and irresponsible. I purchased three "male" hamsters and ended up with 12 new babies because the hamsters were improperly sexed. To teach my children a lesson about responsibility and commitment we kept all the hamsters, purchased cages for each individual one to prevent any more babies from happening, but when I called Petco asking if they could provide, perhaps, a small bag of food or bedding to help with the expense of 12 additional hamsters at the fault of their store, the answer was no, they would not do anything on their end to offer assistance for the mistake. I had since thrown the contract away because, to my best knowledge, I had three male hamsters and didn't see the need to keep extra paperwork. However, they informed me they also threw away their copy of the paperwork because they did not want the bulky storage issues that come with keeping records. I offered to provide the Credit card receipt with their store number as evidence, they still said no, that was not good enough and they would not be providing anything, not even a five dollar gift certificate to purchase a bag of food because they considered it then the fault of their animal distributor. Shame on you, Petco. There are honest people in this world Looking to conduct business with honest companies, and a wretched mistake by your store and your refusal to participate in rectifying that mistake? I will never, ever spend another dime in your store again and will be spreading the word. I'm only sorry I didn't see their reviews before this happened.
