Staff at both Wallingford and Southington have been wonderful! Staff helped me find the following products I needed to get her through the Holiday weekend. One of my cats is having a skin condition issue, so I turned to Petco for products to help her until I can get her to the vet. I was able to purchase Vetericyn Hydro Gel which is helping her heal, a nice recovery vest to protect her and best of all, Pet Honesty Skin and Health treats! Today I walked in showed the clerk an item from the aquarium asked if she had a replacement part for it and she said I have no idea. then I proceeded to ask for help in the fish department and she said there's no one to help you, she couldn't care less. I went in to return a product and was told that while they weren't able to do returns, they would exchange my product for a new one since mine was defective. As these are COVID times, I was more than happy with this solution. After retrieving the new item and bringing it up to the register to complete the swap, I was spoken to by a man that I can only assume is the manager (going by his different colored shirt and the fact that he was standing there watching the whole interaction with his arms crossed). The manager asked if I had used cold water in the water bottle that I was returning. I said I used tap water, just like my other water bottles, and he said that it was the cold water that caused the bottle to leak. Now, I am familiar with the water bottles for small animals.... They leak. No matter what you do, they will leak. But the one I had purchased leaked so much that it was completely empty within an hour and there was a giant puddle of water in the cage and on the floor. When I said as much to the manager, he insisted that cold water was the problem and continued to stand there while the transaction was processed. He began "mansplaining" to me how "the average tap water runs at about 55 degrees" which I not only found annoying, but offensive. Do not act as if your customer is a complete moron when the item is clearly faulty. Yes, the bottles leak, but are they usually empty in an hour? No. They aren't. The associate at the register was perfectly fine, and he explained to me the whole process as we went through with it. He was great. When I left, he even apologized for the whole ordeal. I should have said I felt sorry for him since he had to work under a jerk of a manager. Every person I've ever spoken to in that store has been incredibly friendly and helpful before now. Do better, guys. Seriously. Yeah, it's COVID times and tensions run high, but I think everyone can figure out how to use a dang small mammal water bottle. And don't accuse your customer of doing something wrong. Sometimes products are faulty and that's okay. Had that douche of a manager not been involved, the whole interaction would have been completely fine and I wouldn't have walked away questioning if the closeness of the store is even worth it. Catch me shopping elsewhere from now on, or at least peeking in to see if that jerk is working. read more

Bought multiple bottom feeders the other day after establishing my tank for a few weeks. 2 days after I bought the pleco and bristlenose catfish they were dead meanwhile my red tail shark is doing fine and currently eating the catfish! Our 2 1/2 yr/old Golden needed his nails cut, and though his "coat" was a little long, we were concerned about how cold the weather has been. We took him to the Petco in Wallingford, CT, where he received great care. It was our 1st such visit, and the staff and service was outstanding! They did his nails, did a great job with his undercoat, and gave him a lighter than normal trim, and he looked outstanding. We will certainly keep them in mind for Nicky's next haircut, especially with these circumstances. read more

Definitely one of the best petcos I have been to so far. It is large and I was able to find most of what I was looking for (pond equipment is tough). The parking lot is big and even though it is on route 5, it is much easier to get into and out of than other places nearby. They have all of the brand name accessories you would expect for - cats, dogs, birds, rodents, reptiles, and fish. The staff was friendly and the prices are average for pet supplies. If I had to choose a petco to visit, this would definitely be the one I choose. read more

Went to the vetco clinic for the first time today. Got there kind of late and waited in line for 2 hours, but it was worth it. The vet and vet techs were amazing. They gave me way more information than they needed to, and they were awesome with my dog. Also, the pricing is fantastic. My dog got up to date on all his vaccines (4!), heart worm tested, 6 months of heart guard and advice on weight loss for $135. Can't beat that. read more

I haven't had any issues with this location. I love the rewards program. We only use Blue Buffalo for our dogs, and their prices are competitive and usually send us a coupon or have something in store for a few bucks off. Getting a free bag after you buy 10 isn't so bad either! I plan on using their puppy training classes within the next month, so I will have to update once we are done. read more

I have never been so pleased with any two other people cutting & buffing my Bulldog Hazel's (love of my Life!) nails....I cannot even explain how happy she is when she gets there and sees Tina & Andrea....they are two lovely women, who are in the right job, they ADORE the animals they deal with and my girl is treated like she is one of their own and as a pet owner, I cannot ask for anything more from anyone dealing with my girl. I hope they never ever leave! After calling the corporate line, the store's line, the grooming manager and the store manager I still have received no compensation or personal apology from anyone working for this company. They left a "concerned" comment on my previous review which when I replied to, got ignored. And I replied about four separate times. This second review is specifically to emphasis the low quality of costumer service this chain has. My dog does not speak english unfortunately therefore he cannot stick up for himself. So I did. For his health during his last few years with me. If I was rude due to my emotional distress, hate me. Thats fine. But apologize for my DOG. And the WEEKS of extra discomfort and pain your company and employees caused him. I have not returned to this chain and do not plan on returning anytime soon. Until I- and more importantly my dog- receive the apology and compensation we deserve. I am shook. I recently purchased a guinea pig on 1/2/16 at the Wallingford Petco store. I brought it for my FEMALE guinea pig so she would have a companion. On 1/9/16 I realized that what they said was a female guinea pig was really a male. After contacting them about this issue the store associate laughed and said "now we know the culprit that got the other female (that was in the female cage with him) pregnant". After dealing her and her rudeness. I proceeded to contact the online help center and one was very rude and said theirs nothing they can do about the issue and another was nicer but still got no where with him. This is not the first incident I have had with them. Their customer service is terrible, and the people that work their are not educated at all about their animals and are very rude. I would not recommend this pet store to anyone. I would rather go to Walmart and purchase items that i need for all of my animals before ever stepping foot into that store again. read more
