Slow checkout and very inefficient service rendering at the grooming salon. I had gotten incorrectly charged for for nails and toothbrushing. But the cashier refused to fix it. He just rung me up as is saying the line is long and I should call customer service. Hoping to not return again in the future because the grooming salon also wouldn't listen to feedbacks and my concerns. I visited this Petco recently and was pretty disappointed by the lack of attention to animal welfare with their fish. While I can positively say that the tanks were reasonably clean and not overstocked, multiple tanks did contain dead fish, and there were several fish throughout that appeared abnormally pale. I had also noticed that a schooling fish was mistakenly separated into the wrong tank, it was visibly distressed and swimming against the glass the entire time to get back to it's group. When I brought the distressed fish to the attention of the employee working in that department, my concerns were kind of dismissed and I was told "it happens all the time," with no effort made to fix it. I wanted to leave this review because I really would like to see pet stores show the same level of care across all species. Fish often suffer subpar care because of a "they're just fish" attitude, but they deserve the same baseline care and empathy that we give to the "fluffy and cute" animals. I really hope this store can start to take the welfare of their fish more seriously. read more

Honest reviews are important. To that end I'm offering an update to help others avoid the trauma my beloved puppy and I have had. Petco's website states "Proof of rabies vaccination in the form of paperwork is required." Phone calls to the store before and after our visit confirmed this was the ONLY requirement for new clients. Yes, in my attempt to be gracious there were details I didn't give in my first post. I was asked: - the breeder's name - if I had traveled out of state to pick him up - the name of the breeder's veterinarian - when I got him Has anyone else been similarly interrogated at PETCO or told: - because my dog was "expensive" and of a rare breed, it was necessary that they confirm I didn't steal him - if I hadn't brought my breeder's paperwork, I'd need proof from my own vet that my dog belonged to me--and that they would "check with the vet to make sure" - "And you said you bought him, right?" - "You know, people have dogs that don't belong to them, so we have to check." Concerned for his health, we went to the vet the next day. She observed signs of stress and gastrointestinal upset. It was her observation that he seemed overwhelmed by his grooming experience. She also raised concern that he may have been given CBD or another substance without my consent, which is extremely alarming. He's now taking medication for his stomach and requires follow-up care. I expected the 5-star experience many online reviews gave the groomers in Vienna. Instead, I was treated as a criminal suspect. It felt invasive, accusatory, and racially motivated. If this is the average customer's experience at PETCO please correct me. I don't think it is. read more

Bought three bags of dog food for my two dogs. When they finished the first bag my daughter opened the second bag, was filled with worms. Opened the third bag...filled with worms. I call the store and they tell me it is a well known issue and that I could bring the bags in for a refund. I told the guy, why would I want to bring bags of worm filled food in my vehicle to give to you? It is not about the money. You guys need to be aware to pull the remaining bags and why would keep the bags there if you know what is going on? How do I know if the first bag has not caused them harm? He tells me that is a Purina corporate issue and that I need to give my complaint to the customer service line for Petco. They not only lost a customer but they will be gaining several complaints to different agencies/companies and a possible bill if ANYTHING is wrong with my dogs! read more

The Petco closest to me went out of business a month or two ago so I came here to get some dog food and a few other items. They had what I needed and everything was pretty easy to find. Staff was friendly and it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday morning. Definitely less of a zoo here compared to the Bailey's Crossoroads location and much easier to park and get in and out here. This Petco is excellent because of the customer service. Every single time that I've come in, I've had multiple people ask me if I needed help. They've made great recommendations on various dog foods when I've fostered and then adopted. I only come here when I need something pretty immediately because I order my dogs food and treats online with Petco (they give you back 20% in rewards, which adds up quickly!). They also had one woman who was an excellent groomer, but she might have left for another store rotation. read more

This stupid Petco was the worst fucking place o have ever been to for pets. I went in for parakeets and this store clerk named Susan was working with us and I asked her to give us the smallest one and she said "they're all the same size" when there were some that were literally smaller than others. She then proceeded to put the bird in such a small box that by the time I got home his tail was bent like completely bent. The nails of the parakeet were also super long whereas years previously I would go to pet smart and the nails were trimmed and short, my bird can barely even walk because his nails are too long. Went back the next day to say how his tail is bent and his nails are too long for him to walk and she goes "we can't cut the nails here" and I'm like okay then and I also went to buy another bird so I was like can we buy another bird and she says "sure be right with you" so we go to check out a bird that we want and she literally starts avoiding us by going into corners and picking up the phone when other costumers call and starts checking other people out. I was astonished because I thought you're supposed to help whoever came first, but no she went into the backs of aisles and started picking up the phone and talking to other costumers then proceeded to check other people out when there was already another clerk at the register who could've done those people. After waiting for about 10-15 she finally comes out and we choose our bird and she proceeds to come out with the small ass box that made my other birds tail bent so I said "can you put it in a bigger box" she goes to grab a bigger box and I tell her " you gave us the small box yesterday and my birds tail was bent by the time we got home and mind you we live like 10 mins away" and she replied with "we've been selling them in these small boxes for years" and I was astonished the box is so small that it's meant for a freaking hamster. A HAMSTER. She put a parakeet in a box that's meant for a hamster and yes I know it's for a hamster because I have a little Chinese dwarf that came in a box that size. Never will I ever go back to that Petco and they seriously need a new person working on the parakeets. read more

I don't know if this is a new store, given that I am the first to review AND it is almost directly across from another popular pet store, but I like what they have to offer. Their selection of dog food is really good. They have low priced, grocery store varieties and higher end brands too, like Nature's Variety. My dog doesn't have any dietary restrictions, but I tend to feed her kibble with limited ingredients, especially no animal byproducts. What parts are those, anyway? Since today is my little one's birthday and our one year anniversary together, I bought her a squeaky stuffie (her favorite) and some gourmet grain-free iced cinnamon roll cookies. She's a happy birthday girl. I'm a happy mommy because I saved 10% with my loyalty card coupon I got in the mail. We both won today! read more

Why aren't there any recent reviews for this place?? I love this Petco! I prefer it over the one on old gallows road near Tyson's corner. They were very accommodating, and although their store is slightly smaller, I think its inventory is better. The groomer, Stephanie, is very sweet! I also had an issue with payment (my fault) and the store manager was very accommodating. My dog, Hambone, came out looking better than he ever had at the other Petco. He can be a big wiggleworm when he's being handled, so sometimes, groomers can't really finish the job, but Stephanie was able to do it with ease--I was shopping around the store and looked in in the grooming room on my way out, and saw Hambone sitting patiently on the table! When I picked him up, his coat looked so clean and soft and he looked very happy! read more

Took my two yorkies here for a picture with Santa. The people who worked there seemed pretty friendly, but the Santa was terrible. He complained about being hot the whole time and wouldn't smile for the picture. He also said he didn't think he could hold them both at once (they're five pounds each), and ended up dropping one of them on their head. I was very displeased with him. read more

My Beagle, Missy, and I completed the course with Stephanie and she is absolutely fantastic. The staff seems to always remember the dogs and Missy and I like to visit and get a treat for her fairly often. She was a very picky eater and is terrible with most toys, but Stephanie helped us find great alternatives and has made my life much easier. I've been shopping here for my dog, Darby since their Grand "re-opening" or whatever it was something like 6 months ago. As it is new everything is still shiny and they seem to have done a good job of keeping it that way so far. The employees have all been helpful and friendly which I have come to expect at most pet stores, but I think that has to do with animal lovers being generally kinder than the average bears. :) The bone I have to pick with this store is not in the retail area, but in the grooming. They were nice enough, and seemed to treat my dog well, but they did a few things that added up to me not coming back there for grooming. First, I called and got a quote for a trim and bath for my dog. Nothing too involved. When I dropped him off they asked me what I wanted done and I specified that I wanted to cut his beard short as it was getting in his food and water dish and creating a mess, but that we wanted to keep the hair on the top of his head long as that is the traditional wheaton cut. When came to pick him up several hours later I was a bit shocked. His beard was pretty much the same length, and the hair on the top of his head was cut super short. Then when it came time to pay it was something like $8 more than I had been told when I called. Needless to say I was less than thrilled. I was in a bit of shock, and also in a bit of hurry at the time so I didn't have a chance to complain, but there isn't really anything they can do to put hair back on my dog so I figure I'll just find a place that can listen to my requests and charge what they say they will. *Summary* Retail area is clean, well lit, with friendly staff and is what you would expect from a Petco/Petsmart. (they're pretty similar in my mind) The grooming department doesn't seem to be quite up to par and I'm not willing to give them a 2nd chance at $60 a visit. If you decide to give them a shot I would recommend double checking the price they give you, and being VERY clear in your instructions if you have a particular cut in mind. Just went into the Vienna location to buy flea medicine for my dog. I waited at the front for 15 minutes before I finally went over and asked the dog trainer if anyone could check me out. She paged someone to come to the front, and this rude teenager comes up and says, "I'll be up later. I still have to stock shelves." By now, a line of people formed, and she just walked away. So the dog trainer abandons the people paying for training to ring me out. She didn't bag any of the items I bought and when I asked why the Frontline rang up as $109.00 instead of the $65 price on the shelf, she just said, "well I don't know!"
