We have been loyal Petco grooming customers for eight years with our Shih Tzu-Bichon and have never been disappointed until now or experienced behavioral issues during grooming. Due to scheduling we could not get in with our regular store as soon as we needed so we booked at this location. This was the second time at this location as they had more bookings. We received a call mid-groom stating that our dog had "attempted to bite" the groomer while on the table. When I arrived, I asked the manager for a detailed explanation and a written incident report, but neither was provided. The manager simply stated that our dog attempted to bite the groomer and that she was now permanently banned from all Petco locations and refused to offer any information. I asked if she could return to her regular groomer at our usual Petco store, where she has been groomed successfully for years, and was told no. Our dog is energetic, but she has never shown aggression in eight years of regular grooming appointments. Additionally, when we brought her home, she was acting different than usual and repeatedly licking herself as if she was hurt, which was concerning. We have three dogs that require regular grooming and haircuts every 6 weeks or so. Due to how this situation was handled, the lack of transparency, and the extreme decision to ban her without proper documentation, we will be taking all of our grooming business elsewhere. So happy that a week later we took her to another groomer where they cared for her and there were no behavioral issues. When I picked her up they said how much they loved her. There is one lady I usually see at the register, who is really nice, but the one with all the face piercings is pretty rude. They said you can only be 5 minutes late! This is complete nonsense! First of all, no one ever said that if you are 5 minutes late you won't be accepted! I haven't been to a pet store for a long time. My son normally goes to Pet Smart but this Petco was closer to my house. We went and wanted to spend my hard earned money but cashier seemed I was an inconvenience. First, she goes to check for flee meds and says we only have 4month one and no 6month one. Not sure why she didn't even ask to see if any in the back storage. So I accepted to take the 4 month advantage vs. 6 month one. I put all the other products on counter and cashier rings me up. I thought she said $149 so I gave her $200. She says she can't take that. I look at her and my son says $100.49. My bad. Can't should not be in sales person vocabulary. My first thought was that she's willing to lose business for .49 cents. My son had 50 cent in his wallet to cover. So we paid and left. I guess we should have drove the extra mile to go to Pet Smart. I called about a dog nail trim, asked all the questions, got pricing and hours. Went in for the service and was told I needed his rabies certificate. So I waited until his vet was open and had them email me the record. Went in again and they asked if he had any conditions, one being arthritis. My dog is 13 years old and has arthritis. They said they couldn't provide the service. I would recommend this business provide more information at the get-go so you stop wasting people's time. On top of that they don't have a regular desk person so you have to stand there for 10 minutes while they finish grooming before you're even helped. read more

I have been here multiple times and service has always been subpar at best. Unfortunately, yesterday takes the cake as far as bad customer service. I went to the store to grab a handful of feeder mice for my snake and quickly noticed they had them in stock. I stood and waited about ten mins and nobody came over to help me, so I went to find a staff member. I found someone near dog food and they were not helping anyone. I asked if they could help me with some mice and they said "Oh, uh well, you would have to go wait in line and ask a cashier, I'm over here." and then they stood there and looked at me. This is pretty disappointing and poor customer service. At the very least, she could have called a staff member to help me. Why would I be expected to wait in line to ask for help? The line was incredibly long and they only had one cashier, she was literally doing nothing, but standing there, waiting to help people; just not me. This store basically sucks. read more

Its been awhile since I came in looking for pet stuff since I get my cat stuff on line . The onlinestore withe same name is cheaper when getting flea medication . The problem about online is you can't see the animals, and the funny things they do.. The price are abit expensive depending on what you get and some of the employees are just their to be there depending on who you talk to. It use to be different then it is now.... This Petco location is close to my home and is very clean. I find exactly what I am looking for.99% of the time. My furbaby is on a prescription diet, and I have ordered his food by the case through them. My only suggestion would be for them to carry toys that aren't so expensive, and possibly a wider selection of toys. I have purchased furniture from this Petco, and it has always been great quality. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable regarding their merchandise. My veterinary office has recommended Petco, and I do too!! read more

My family and I were there last night and my husband tripped over a display that was gray so it blended in. He hurt his back and I went and found a employee to let them know that it should have some tape or something on it so no one else falls. The employee Sarah just stared at me instead of answering me she just stared. She did that so long my daughter thought she was mute. Finally she spoke up and said what do u want me to say, sorry? I'd give this review zero stars if I could, I've had numerous issues at this location. Avoid if you can. I come to this location solely because it's the closest to my house, occasionally I'll go out of my way to avoid this location, unfortunately it's just convenient. EVERY TIME I come in I usually get the same young girl helping me, I haven't left a review about her before because I've never checked her name tag-- but today I did. Her name is Ashley, she's a younger gal, short, and has straight brown hair. Avoid her if you can. She is unbelievably rude every time she "helps" me, she always has an attitude, and always tells me no or that I can't do something. In this case it's about my rewards. I worked for Petco for three years and recently moved onto working at a vet, so I know how Petco works and their return/rewards program. I always call her out and ask to speak to a manager if she can't help me, and she always magically figures it out and does it the right way. I always ask her "oh, did your policy just change then?" And she never responds to that. Today, I told her I was redeeming my $5 rewards and she interrupted me and said I can't use my rewards if I just loaded them to my account. This is wrong, you can. So; I interrupted her telling her she was incorrect and that I can show her the barcode that it provides me. She then stopped arguing with me and scanned my barcode and sent me on my way. She's just incredibly rude and doesn't know how to do her job, she needs to be retrained. I don't like being rude to anyone but this has happened almost every time I come in and I'm tired of it. I walked into this store this morning to the sounds of dogs howling and screeching from the back room of the grooming salon. I've been to dog kennels that were not as loud. It sounded like the dogs were being tortured. It's true that some dogs are just loud, but everywhere I walked in this store it was deafening and the sounds were horrible. I tried to see where the dogs were but they had them in a back room and I could not see them from the window of the grooming salon. I complained to the manager, and he said that the dogs were whining because they were "jealous" of the other dog that was getting his bath. I really doubt that was the case. It was extremely disturbing and I finally left. I will not be going to this store again. read more

I bought a fish on a whim yesterday. Shouldn't have. I noticed a ton of dead fish in the tank and they had only had them come in the night before. Out of all the Petco's I have been to, when it comes to buying fish, this is by far the best one. They have a great selection of fish and they have the BEST customer service. I have seen a lot of managers in the fish department come and go and not to mention a bit hasty (and sometimes somewhat rude), but at this Tacoma location the manager is consistent, friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to fish and all Aquarium matters. This store might be small, but packs a mighty punch. We found items here we couldn't find at PetSmart. A wider variety of everything; toys, treats, foods, health items, you got it all. For cat owners, they also have cheap bulk cat litter. The staff really know their stuff and can find exactly what you need. I'm excited for their move to their larger store in September 09. Hopefully their huge variety of items will be more appreciated in a larger space. read more

I have taken my dog in to get groomed here over the last 3 years. The last 2 times my dog has been groomed by the same groomer. We wait a few Months between grooming. The groomer went too low BOTH TIMES and cut my dog. First on his stomach and this time on his leg. And we were not told BOTH TIMES! We thought the first time was an accident and wrote it off. But my dog was seen there again yesterday and was cut again. For it to happen again and not be told is ridiculous! Something is wrong if you are cutting a dog each time they are groomed. And not paying enough attention to not know what you are doing or if you cut them. Needless to say we are treating the new cut with triple antibiotic ointment and switching groomers. read more

They don't have enough staff floating around to help customers. First time I was there, I stepped on dog waste, noticed them, nothing happened! I cleaned myself up, came back, the "business" was still there! Second time, I brought my pup in, the Blue rep person was really nice. This is the only reason why I gave them 2 stars. My third time was the worst since I brought home a worm bone to my pup. He was so excited to get the bone, but thank God, I saw the worm moving right before I gave it to him. The bone was still in its wrapper when I got it. I wrapped it back and brought it to Petco in Federal Way to return since I was around that area. Well, the rep said a weak sorry and told me she'll call the Tacoma branch to check their stocks. They showed no concern for my dog, and yes, the worm was still moving inside those plastic wrap! YUCK! They refunded me, but oh boy, Petco customer service is just bad!!! Both this branch and the one in Federal Way (in the H Mart complex). I'm gonna stick with PetSmart. read more
