Zero stars. Behind their building is disgusting. I spent 30 minutes cleaning up trash in order to be threatened by an employee that "she is calling the cops dumpster diving is illegal" which A is false in and of itself and B.... I had come there for empty cat litter bags for compost which one employee would leave aside for me, they weren't there but I felt like trash needed some attention. In the future, kindness would be more appropriate. I never take anything from the trash that was not left aside for me (prior) and clearly you do not feel like cleaning up your own mess so, thank you is a more appropriate response than ridiculous threats. (which aren't even true) I have spoken to PD back there and they do not bother with someone picking up trash, and occasionally feeding homeless who are living back there. I hope people read this and clean that store out of incredibly rude employees--- I had a prior conversation where I asked to re-use actual trash--- and the staff would take one litter bag and stuff all of the other bags inside of one and leave it behind the dumpster. (Who's name I will not be mentioning because if the staff are going to speak to me that badly... I'm sure they will also mistreat fellow employees who didn't see anything wrong with why I was there) Someone had dumped a trash bag full of rained on clothing all over the ground. I picked up the mess. Piece by piece, instead of thank you, I got yelled and threatened. I'm so tired... this is my second review like this, where I did the right thing and was yelled at for it at a different business as well. Maybe you should have your staff, pick up the alley yourselves.... and also tell them to interact with unexpected people with kindness... not rudeness and cruelty. (If I were actually unhoused and an angry, local homeowner, I might have cried after she spoke to me that way) If there are rules about trash, then there need to be rules that the staff clean up the messes in the alley as well--- instead, I will make sure to post photos everytime I drive by there and see a mess they told me not to touch and threatened me if I went near. I wonder if the landlord will start to fine them.---- I spend thousands of dollars a month in that Plaza. I'm sure there will be plenty of times I will need to pass by. read more

The store is always poorly stocked and there's never anyone around to help ...Almost impossible to find what I need

Petco as a chain is completely incompetent at dog grooming for senior dogs and in fact will reject your senior dog if the senior dog cannot stay standing for 45 minutes straight. Somehow their utterly incompetent staff has not figured out how to help the dog stand up. Petco does not care about their customer's experience whatsoever as they don't even bother to warn you before making the reservation. Every other dog groomer I've gone to has zero problems grooming my senior dog--only PetCo can't handle her. read more

I'm a 5-star person. I like to leave positive reviews, even when the service is so-so, because I believe people are doing the best they can and it's important that we boost each other up. But wow, I have got to say, this particular store really stinks. Every time we've been there, the service has been awful. Recently, we went to return a bag of moldy cat food and the manager (Ashley) flat-out refused, saying their policy was 30 days - no exceptions - even if it was within the expiration window. We called Petco when we got home to confirm this. Their customer service was super kind. They understood, looked up our order, confirmed we had bought it, that it was within the expiration date window, and shipped us a new bag right away. Pretty simple... Petco as a brand is fine. This store is worse than covid. read more

Horrible, unprofessional grooming service. We scheduled our dog for a bath, trim, and nail clip, fairly basic. We explained our dogs breed and asked for whatever the "professionals" believed would be the best service. 2 hours and $65 later we picked up a wet dog, with suds still in her fur, and nails that had not been trimmed. Instead of being apologetic and listening to the concerns we had both the grooming manager and grooming manager belittled us about the "proper care / treatments" for our pet and if we had paid more they would have done a better job. They offered no explanation other than that and we continued to state, "that is WHAT we asked for." After demanding and receiving a refund from the store manager he then followed me to the entrance of the store continuing to berate me, shouting at me "that's the proper care of your pet" as I exited the store. One week later our dog was at the vet's with an ear infection that the vet said was attributed to having water sprayed in her ear. After a $200 vet bill to treat her ear infection, I called asking for the store manager. He never called me back. I called again asking for the DM's number, it was refused to me. I called back 5 times over 9 months to get in contact with the DM and never got a call back. Horrible store. Horrible management and supervision!! Do not waste time or money in this place. read more

Petco online ordering and canceling orders is not good. Customer service is worse. Shop elsewhere.

I have been going here over a year and the grooming team ALWAYS does well. They are consistent and they cater to my dog's grooming encuera. Give the grooming team a raise! The rest of the store, meh. It's ok. read more

I've owned hamsters on and off my whole life. They've always been sweet and friendly, and lived at least a year, though usually longer. I bought a hamster from Petco in the beginning of the year (2021). The hamster was stressed out and unfriendly. She never came out to greet me when I offered treats, and if I attempted to pick her up she would jump out of my hand and try to bite me. Then she died shortly after the 30 day health warranty was over. I was pretty shook up by the whole thing, but a few months later, decided to try again. After all, I had a lovely set up for a hamster (nice big wheel and cage), and didn't like to see it go to waste. And the exact same thing happened again. Unfriendly hamster, dead with in 35 days. No refund from Petco, though I did call to complain. Petco simply does not know anything about hamsters. I recently sold my hamster cage on CL to a woman who had just bought a hamster from Petco. She told me the worker at Petco instructed her to leave her hamster in the the box for 2 or 3 days. WHAT? Are you kidding me? Leave the hamster in the a cardboard box they can chew out of, with no food or water? Petco is a danger to animals! Not only that, but they keep the hamsters in tiny cages in the pet store, with little flying saucer wheels that are WAY TOO SMALL. My first hamster I got from Petco, I asked the girl working, "Do the hamsters actually run on those little wheels?" All my hamsters always used a stand up wheel, not a flying saucer. She assured me the hamsters LOVE the flying saucer wheels. So I bought one and guess what? My hamster never used it, but as soon as I put an 11-inch Wodent Wheel in her cage, she went to town on it! Hamsters love to run, they can run up to 5 miles a night. To deprive them of a proper wheel is cruel. I would like to see better hamster care from Petco!!! They need to start ethically breeding their hamsters in store, rather than getting unhealthy animals from a hamster mill. Despicable business!!! read more

There are not very many pet stores around VT and this place is very conveniently located. As such- we stop in here fairly frequently as our cat loves it here. Piko the cat loves to walk around the store and check everything out. He loves to be greeted and treated like a celebrity. The store is very pet friendly and has all the pet necessities. However I do have a small complaint- the store is small so it's an in and out experience. read more

Worst customer service ever. They don't pick up in the grooming, customer service or curb pick up line. It seems like the staff gets overwhelmed when they're handing more then one customer. I got my leopard gecko from these guys 3 years ago, I haven't had a problem at all until today, back when I got my gecko Shiloh we were informed that they have a vet clinic in the store. I called today and asked about the vet clinic to get both my geckos in for an appointment, and the lady who answered the phone sounded very condescending when I asked about their vet's services for Geckos. She informed me that they offer NO service for any animal, even though on the website it says book a vet appointment. I was really hoping to avoid having to write this review. Unfortunately after this experience, I feel compelled to warn others. If it weren't for store manager Jesse and groomer Tanya attempting to fix this mess, this would be one star. I don't know if I caught this person on a bad week or what, but Claire in grooming totally ruined my Petco grooming experience. This is unfortunate for me because Petco is so conveniently located near to my home and they have great reward opportunities. I went in for my appointment on Tuesday, March 2nd, and was greeted by Claire and Samantha. Claire's affect was a bit cold from the moment I came in, but I figured this was just my own perception so I let it go. Despite the bad vibes, I let her know the gist of what I was looking for and she seemed receptive. Specifically: keep his back long, shave his rear-end, his snout, and his paws. Anything else was her discretion. She told me 1.5-2hrs and l light-heartedly said that 2 would be better because I was on my way to brunch. She very flatly responsed with, "ok just don't be like 5 hours." And I expected her to laugh but she was serious. I shamefully agreed and said "of course not". I returned exactly 2 hours later and was slightly horrified by my dog's appearance. NOTHING I asked for was done. Uneven is one thing, but it straight-up looked like a child cut my dogs hair. Mind you, this was his 4th groom, he is just over a year old, and he's never had any issues with his behavior. The first thing Claire said to me was "He kept trying to play with the scissors". Ok. As I looked him over I literally couldn't believe I was paying almost $70 for this work. I didn't say anything because this woman was quite intimidating. It was very hard for me to not feel like this was personal. Did this woman make my dog look this ridiculous because she didn't like me? Again, I knew this was most likely my own perception... but it was a strong enough feeling that I simply left and called the store when I got home. I was informed Jesse wouldn't be there until Thursday and was encouraged to call back. The young man I spoke with was incredibly sweet and apologetic. He made me feel valued and assured me that petco would remedy this. I called right when the store opened on Thursday morning. Jesse was also incredibly professional and committed to helping me and Tanya agreed to fix him up immediately. To quote Tanya when she saw him, "This work is unacceptable". I dropped him off at 9:45am and picked him up exactly one hour later. When I walked in, there was Claire glaring at me. I didn't expect her to be there. I offered a "hi, how are you" to her, she just said "good you" with an obvious smirk on her face. You could cut the tension in the room with a knife. Tanya then went over what she did and yes, he did look a little more symmetrical. I wanted to feel pleased as she told me they would do his next grooming for free... but the entire situation was so uncomfortable. I couldn't run out of there fast enough. Claire had every opportunity to explain herself or apologize to me for the massive inconvenience this has caused, but she didn't. More so, she acted as if I inconvenienced HER. That is what compelled me to write this review. We are living in such tense times right now that being a decent human is just a small gift we can give one another. I believe a groomer also has an obligation to be courteous to their customers even if their work is primarily with a pet. I will only be bringing my dog back for another groom if I am assured that groomer will not be present in the building. read more

have been coming here for nail Trims for 2 years, staff was professional and great, today we were denied service due to staff change . The excuse was no nail trim because our dog has a small scab on his head. Mind you he has had this condition for a long time, vet said it is harmless and it opens a bit with bad weather conditions.. she the groomer proceeded to say she had to do a 3 point check, as if my dog were a car .. then squeeeezed his scab until she made it ooze a bit and said see it is open we can not trim his nails.. Not only is this not a rule but she could have potentially infected the wound with her possibly unclean hands and hurt my poor elderly dog. The manager told us it is only a rule when giving dogs a bath, which is understandable but nail trim has nothing to do with a dime size scab on head. Be warned do not com back to these groomers as the service is wretched . Will no longer be a client after 2 years of coming in every 3 weeks we will take our business elsewhere . read more

Dan and the others working here this past weekend were a huge help in getting my daughter an adopted Gecko and all the necessary items. I felt like the entire store was at my beck and call to get through all of this. The expense was VERY low as the adoption came with a tank, sand and dishes already. Thanks to the staff for recommending adoption. I like that our new gecko has a home rather than the back storage area of the store. My only complaints are the smell when you walk in as they placed the small rodents and ferrets right at the very entrance to the store! Not sure why. read more

I've been bringing my pug here monthly for nail trims for a couple of years. He is elderly, but has no major health issues. Up until the visit, the staff in the grooming area was friendly and warm toward him. The last time, however, my husband and I were informed that they didn't want him to come in anymore because of his age. I realize he's not a puppy, but he still needs to get his nails trimmed. He doesn't fight the person doing the trimming. I can't complain about the nail trim itself--the groomers do a good job getting them nice and short. I'm sad to express how disappointed I am with both this company and this individual store. All but one staff member were incredibly unhelpful and seemed unwilling to help. The staff claims to be "reptile experts" but couldn't even tell me the gender or morph of my gecko. Furthermore, they only sell baby, practically infant lizards, which require much more specific care and petco staff was able to give me zero information on how to care for this lizard. When I went to check out my cashier was delightful but the staff member who helped me get the lizard needed to come to the register and would not respond to his coworkers calls and I waited for a very long time which I wouldn't mind, but I did have a baby lizard that I needed to get to a tank ASAP so the wait wasn't ideal. I called the store back the day after I got the lizard to ask for the morph and sex since the gecko has some unusual colored spots on its head which could either just be normal for the morph or indicate health issues, and the person I spoke too knew little to nothing about the gecko. Not to mention the "live" meal worms I purchased are practically all dead. Overall, I'm quite disappointed with the company. It's unfair to sell such young lizards with specific care needs and have no information to help the customers care for the reptile, and if they're going to do so, they might as well hire staff that's actually going to do their job and attempt to help customers. I would absolutely not recommend this PetCo to anyone, and PetCo if you're reading this...educate your staff so your animals aren't killed. read more

I took my dog here for grooming. Upon picking my dog up (who has been to a groomer before with no issue) he was FREEZING AND WET after leaving their metal cages, his cut was uneven and poorly done, and to top that the price was astronomical compared to other places. Yes he was clean, yes he smelled good. But I will never return somewhere that left my dog freezing and wet in an unblanketed cold metal cage for what could have been hours. It took him the better part of a day to return to normal behavior. Normally a happy-go-lucky dog was acting cowed (best word I can think of to describe it). He looked like he was in shock. Never. Never. Never again. read more

There was no one in the store, no dogs on the table. I paid for 15 minute brush out, nails clipped and grinded, teeth brushed and ears cleaned. Will never go there again. Maybe some good prices, but not worth it. 1) Mis-sexed one of a guinea pig pair -- theoretically 2 females - resulting in unwanted pregnancy. 2) Didn't recognize that 1 of their gps clearly had a respiratory issue and only removed it from others when pointed out by customer, and 3) Interested only in selling you something. Called ahead to check if they had any neutered males, was told yes (they "checked"), went into store, paid for one and when double-checked re: neutered status was told, "no we don't sell any neutered gps" resulting in distressed child. And this was the manager! Do yourself a favor and go to another locally owned store nearby. read more

I just visited this store today to purchase pet supplies and I walked out without buying anything and completely disgusted. As soon as I entered the store it smelled of urine. I walked in to find a poor rabbit who's enclosure was completely disgusting. It was full of feces and flies were flying around inside of it. I really wish they would stop carrying small animals. The ferret enclosure was just as dirty. Rabbits also shouldn't be kept in small glass enclosures like that. Rabbits need at least 4 feet of room to run around. The poor thing couldn't even stand on its hind legs if it wanted to. I am enraged and totally heartbroken over how these poor things are kept... read more

The associates are always willing to help me find what I need. They seem happy to be working there.

The grooming salon at this petco is a joke. Our dog had a seizure from them a vacuum they were using. Even after telling them he has epilepsiy, the girl holdon ghim tried to tell us he was just scared when he was clearly having a seizure. We were told to bring him back on a slower day as he is convulsing on the ground. Two seconds later, they start the vacuum again. We paid and left, only to find they did a horrible job grooming him, razor marks, mats, long hairs, and they forgot to trim one of his feet. Upon returning to show them, the "manager" michelle p, tried to grab my dog from my wife after telling her multiple times we did not want they to touch him after him having a seizure. Needless to say we promptly left as they were not willing to refund our money or help us in any way. Michelle p is a poor excuse for a manager and she has no business working with animals. We will never take our dog back here and strongly discourage anyone who loves their dog from subjecting them to "grooming" from this incompetant staff. Take your dog somewhere local where they will actually care about your pet. This place is pathetic, as are their employees. read more
