    There are not very many pet stores around VT and this place is very conveniently located. As such- we stop in here fairly frequently as our cat loves it here. Piko the cat loves to walk around the store and check everything out. He loves to be greeted and treated like a celebrity. The store is very pet friendly and has all the pet necessities. However I do have a small complaint- the store is small so it's an in and out experience.

    BEFORE grooming appointment.

    I was really hoping to avoid having to write this review. Unfortunately after this experience, I feel compelled to warn others. If it weren't for store manager Jesse and groomer Tanya attempting to fix this mess, this would be one star. I don't know if I caught this person on a bad week or what, but Claire in grooming totally ruined my Petco grooming experience. This is unfortunate for me because Petco is so conveniently located near to my home and they have great reward opportunities. I went in for my appointment on Tuesday, March 2nd, and was greeted by Claire and Samantha. Claire's affect was a bit cold from the moment I came in, but I figured this was just my own perception so I let it go. Despite the bad vibes, I let her know the gist of what I was looking for and she seemed receptive. Specifically: keep his back long, shave his rear-end, his snout, and his paws. Anything else was her discretion. She told me 1.5-2hrs and l light-heartedly said that 2 would be better because I was on my way to brunch. She very flatly responsed with, "ok just don't be like 5 hours." And I expected her to laugh but she was serious. I shamefully agreed and said "of course not". I returned exactly 2 hours later and was slightly horrified by my dog's appearance. NOTHING I asked for was done. Uneven is one thing, but it straight-up looked like a child cut my dogs hair. Mind you, this was his 4th groom, he is just over a year old, and he's never had any issues with his behavior. The first thing Claire said to me was "He kept trying to play with the scissors". Ok. As I looked him over I literally couldn't believe I was paying almost $70 for this work. I didn't say anything because this woman was quite intimidating. It was very hard for me to not feel like this was personal. Did this woman make my dog look this ridiculous because she didn't like me? Again, I knew this was most likely my own perception... but it was a strong enough feeling that I simply left and called the store when I got home. I was informed Jesse wouldn't be there until Thursday and was encouraged to call back. The young man I spoke with was incredibly sweet and apologetic. He made me feel valued and assured me that petco would remedy this. I called right when the store opened on Thursday morning. Jesse was also incredibly professional and committed to helping me and Tanya agreed to fix him up immediately. To quote Tanya when she saw him, "This work is unacceptable". I dropped him off at 9:45am and picked him up exactly one hour later. When I walked in, there was Claire glaring at me. I didn't expect her to be there. I offered a "hi, how are you" to her, she just said "good you" with an obvious smirk on her face. You could cut the tension in the room with a knife. Tanya then went over what she did and yes, he did look a little more symmetrical. I wanted to feel pleased as she told me they would do his next grooming for free... but the entire situation was so uncomfortable. I couldn't run out of there fast enough. Claire had every opportunity to explain herself or apologize to me for the massive inconvenience this has caused, but she didn't. More so, she acted as if I inconvenienced HER. That is what compelled me to write this review. We are living in such tense times right now that being a decent human is just a small gift we can give one another. I believe a groomer also has an obligation to be courteous to their customers even if their work is primarily with a pet. I will only be bringing my dog back for another groom if I am assured that groomer will not be present in the building.

    The store is always poorly stocked and there's never anyone around to help ...Almost impossible to find what I need

    Petco online ordering and canceling orders is not good. Customer service is worse. Shop elsewhere.

Their website includes a cancellation policy that says low stress, one dog at a time. I visited in advance of booking to check the place out. I was assured that no other dogs would be in the room with my very excitable dog. When I arrived for the appointment it turns out he was going to be groomed on a table right next to another dog. And that table was strewn with lots of different items, it would have needed to be cleared off before they could put my guy there. Not sure what the plan was. So we agreed I would reschedule. Then I found they had charged $114 on my credit card. When I finally had service there today I'd assumed the charge would be applied to this service. I was told no, but after a little push back they relented. However, they charged an additional $90 for a second rinse - just a rinse, no dry, to remove the clippings that make my dog itch. Nearly as much as the full service. And I am concerned about cleanliness. when we arrived the floor and grooming table were covered with piles of hair from other dogs. gthere was even fur out in the hallway. Gwen swept it up, but only after I mentioned it. Likely the clippers and tools were not disinfected after the last dog, and she uses a shared lick mat, not cleaned between dogs. These are red flags in regard to disease. I wish them luck in growing a successful business, but I won't be going back.

I don't even know where to begin to explain my horrible experience. No vaccination records required: I was never asked to provide proof of vaccinations, which is a major red flag for any responsible pet business. This puts all dogs at risk. Terrible grooming quality: One of my dogs came home with a large bald patch on his chest, it turns out they forgot to attach the blade head to the clippers. The other dog's face was so uneven I had to trim it myself with scissors after getting home. I was honestly embarrassed to take them out in public. Mishandled payment: At checkout, they ran my card incorrectly. I received a message two days later saying it hadn't gone through. I didn't respond right away because I was across the country attending a memorial service for my mother. When I called back to explain and resolve the issue, I was told by Cheri "that's not my problem" and that I should have called right after the service. Completely heartless and unprofessional. Threatened with police: When I asked for a simple written invoice so I could send payment by check (and avoid further phone contact due to the rudeness), I was told they wouldn't send one because that's not something they do. Then I was threatened with police involvement if I didn't pay immediately! who does that?? Over a payment I never refused to make and told them multiple times I would be happy to do so once I was provided an invoice or receipt. Price: I was charged $90 more than any grooming I have ever received before for my two dog. Cheri was unwilling to provide reason or explanation. This business showed no care for my dogs, no professionalism, and no basic courtesy. There are plenty of groomers out there who know how to treat both pets and people with respect -- this is not one of them.
