Terrible customer service. Waited over 10 mins to be connected to "grooming" then to by a recording that all groomers are busy ( nit sure why I needed to wait 10 mins to then hear that message - what a slap in the face). I tried calling again, no answer then called over to the store section to see if I could ask someone about a quote.. - talked to someone by the name of "Donna" not smarter than a bag of bricks. The Vetco at this location led to the death of my cat. I took her in on Saturday to be checked for what was a tooth abcess. As soon as we got in the room, it was nothing but a high-pressure sales pitch. They took my cat out of the room to examine her. THEY DID NOT EXAMINE HER! I have proof of this. They bring her back into the room and tell us that she needed multiple teeth pulled. Our cat was clearly in pain, and all these clowns did was give her an antibiotic shot. They did not give her any pain medication or anything to help with pain. It was all about money!! They also wanted to charge us $150 for a blood test so that they could see if she would do ok for the surgery. BUT, we were told she needed a rabies shot before they would even treat her. It was apparent that she was in pain and sick, and nothing mattered more than the fact that the procedure was going to be $1,000 and up depending on how many teeth needed to be extracted. I begged them to hold off on the rabies shot until she was feeling better. They refused. We took our cat home. Monday morning, she was getting worse. I immediately took her into another vet. They found mouth cancer almost immediately after we got there. I had to put my beautiful cat to sleep that moment. I refused to let her suffer one minute more. Vetco had no answers for me when I confronted them! I was told by the vet that saw her he didn't know why he didn't give her anything for pain for her "tooth abcess". I asked why he didn't examine her, and he said because it was painful for her, yet he gave no pain meds. Instead, he pushed for all the money it would cost to pall her teeth. He said Corporate policy says that no matter what, they have to push for rabies shots and for the proceedures.procedures. If you want your pet alive, DON'T GO HERE. My kitty is dead now, and I am left to grieve. They suck! read more

The Most Horrible experience I Have ever had! I took my 5 month old German Shepard in for a bath, nails clipped and filed. My Dog has been through puppy training classes. Graduated with honors. She's smart and loving. The lady that groomed her , Sherry, is NOT a good care giver! She called me and told me that she couldn't blow dry her because she was getting to aggressive. And she couldn't do her nails either. When I went to pick up my Good Girl, she then told me " You have a bad dog" I will not be going to this Petco Ever again. read more

I'm beyond frustrated with the lack of customer service and customer care I received at the Petco Shorewood location. I made an appointment for my dog who has previously been groomed at this Petco (they did an ok job with this grooming however, they were a bit rude). I made a new appointment for this morning as I have a family gathering and my dog really needs a bath and a hair cut. I'm all set to leave and Petco calls to cancel my appointment day of telling me my dog is too old for them to groom. Vetco staffs were very insensitive. I tried to schedule an appointment for my dog to be seen and to be put down. All they cared about is being on time for the appointment and if I am five minutes late, they'll reschedule the appointment despite that my dog is actually sick. They have black heart. They shouldn't even be working in a veterinary clinic. This will be my last time I'll use their services. read more

Nothing I hate more than having my time wasted. It takes me 20 minutes each way to drive to this store for pet grooming. Over an hour of my day wasted because they didn't tell me when they confirmed the appointment that there was an issue. They called the day before to confirm the appointment and made no mention that one of my dogs shots had expired a couple weeks ago and they needed to have that updated before they would groom the dogs. I showed up and after 15 minutes was told they could only do one dog. Um, no, they both need to get groomed. Made an appointment at another groomer. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

After seeing an Ad of a Maltese groomed at Petco I decided to book an appointment. I had previously used the grooming services of a competitor. This is Skyes second visit to this Petco and I am completely satisfied. The first visit Skye was a bit matted, I had become accustomed to the other groomer shaving her almost bald however this groomer took the time to brush her. Upon my picking Skye up today from her second visit I walked in to one of the employees cradling Skye like a baby and another one placing a kiss on her head. That was a touching moment.. not to mention that Skye looked and smelled great. read more

I shopped here three times this weekend. Each time the service was outstanding and far exceeded my expectations. My first visit, I was shopping for a fish. The gentleman, whose name I regretfully did not get, was very informative and helpful in my purchase of a fish. I know nothing about fish and was making this purchase for someone else. I ended up with a Betta fish after speaking to this knowledgeable salesman. I wish I had his name so I could specifically compliment him. He was also there when I went the second time, also very helpful, although he did not directly help me. My second visit, I was there to buy/rescue a cat. Judy, who was just getting off work, stayed late to help us figure out which cat we wanted to buy, advising us with all of the knowledge she had about the cats that were in the store, as well as sharing her knowledge of cats in general. (She has cats of her own.) Once we decided on a cat, Judy also helped us find the products that we would need to care for the cat. Very nice work, Judy! I felt so impressed by Judy that I called the Petco corporate line listed on my receipt in order to make sure she was recognized for her hard work, particularly because she stayed beyond her scheduled working hours to help out. (The store was pretty crowded with customers.) The only problem with my call to Petco corporate is that I had a very hard time understanding the dialiect/accent of the woman who took my call. I have no idea if my accolades were received correctly. The lady on the phone kept referring to my "compliment" as a "complimentation," if that gives you any idea. The third visit to Petco was routine for treats and other miscellaneous things I forgot to pick up. Again, the store clerk who checked me out was very friendly and courteous. We took our mini poodle, who is a senior, here for grooming and we will never go back. The girl who did the grooming was actually wonderful (she gets 5 stars - Keeley) but the manager was incredibly rude and mean. We were afraid to leave our dog there but Keeley came to get him and he liked her. Our dog is adopted and was found living on the streets so who knows what he has been through. When we brought him in, the manager said she didn't think they could groom him because he was shaking and she thinks he could have a seizure. For the record, he shakes when he is scared and has NEVER had a seizure. Our dog also has no teeth and he nubs people when he is uncomfortable. So of course he nubbed her. She said she didn't want him "to be here if he's gonna act like that." When Keely came to get him he was fine with her. When we picked him up, Keely said he was wonderful with her. When we picked him up the mean manager was grooming a large poodle and yelling at him. Unacceptable. Dogs have a 6th sense and know when unkind people are around them. Although we loved Keely, we will not be coming back. The fact that mean manager might be hurting, yelling or being mean to my fur baby when I'm gone scares me. She has no right to be around these beautiful creatures. read more

This place sucks and it makes driving the extra 15 minutes to PetSmart worth it. I've gone 3 different times to get my dogs nails done. The first time they had a sign that they couldn't take walk ins because they were understaffed. The second time they wouldn't accept my dogs valid rabies tag and needed the paper for the exact shot date...and can't call the vet. PetSmart will call the vet for you so there's no reason they can't do the same. The third time I went at 4:30 with my rabies certification to find they close at 4. On a Monday? Such a waste of my time and I'll never step foot in this store for anything ever again. I'll drive further to go to PetSmart. read more

Not sure when they decided to go natural, raw, and holistic, but I never got the news flash, and I'm a perks member. I was surprised when I came in and they no longer carried my dog food. Great call petco, but if you plan on keeping me as a customer, maybe you should adjust the prices to match my budget. Anywho, the store is not the store in the pictures. I wish they had a separate adoption area. That way, on the weekends, it's not an anxiety attack of pet crates and animal training randomly placed throughout the store. Last time I went in, there was pee all over the store, it was gross! A few months ago, my daughter snagged her hair on an incorrectly placed metal hanger. It scared her and when I told a manager she brushed it off until I got pissy about it almost being my daughters eye. From there, it was pure attitude for me to point it out. I've had to come back several times before just to see if the bones my dogs like were in, because they got a shipment in, but hadn't sorted it all out yet. All together, the store is meh. Not HORRIBLE, but at this point, I'll drive the extra distance and hit petsmart. read more

Don't take your dog to be groomed I hv a long haired chihuahua I asked for a bath nails cut paws trimmed and his but trimmed . His but was shaved some body hair cut which I didn't want.what a mess will never go back.they are very busy and just get them in and out. read more

Let me start by saying that if to choose LOWER than one star was an option, I would. This grooming salon butchered the haircut of my 9 month old Australian Labradoodle. My puppy went into the salon with a cute fluffy look about him...just needed to be trimmed up. Well, the groomer told me that he may be shorter than I am used to because he had some matting. Not in my wildest dreams did I imagine that "shorter than I am used to" equated to SHAVED to a nub! He looks awful and I am embarassed for him as a dog. I was in tears in the checkout line...for which they charged $71 for this butchering! And, when I dropped the dog off, I told them the name of a dog that they also groomed that I wanted my dog modeled after. They confirmed that they remembered this dog. He was still fluffy when his grooming was done!! Funny thing is, the bill was broken out into a $60 "Grooming charge" and an $11 "Shaving/Brushing" charge...Why was I charged $71 for a Labradoodle cut when I didn't get it?? I only got the "Shave" that should NEVER have transpired? To make things even worse, the groomer was downright rude to me when she saw I wasn't happy and stated that it was "obvious" that I "don't brush the dog"! What?!?! My 9 year old son was with me and I asked him to tell her how often we are always brushing him...his response to her, "ALL THE TIME". So, I was further offended at the attitude of this groomer as she proceeded to pick up the "sheered like a sheep" (as she called her "grooming" skills) fur that laid on the floor. She said "the proof is in this fur!!". The salon manager told the groomer to stop talking and go in the back...and condoned her behavior! I, appalled of course at this customer interaction, demanded to speak to the store manager...that I wanted my money back. As the grooming salon manager walked out of the salon, she muttered "oh, you are NOT getting your money back!". As the salon manager was gone, the groomer came back out into the salon and proceeded to tell me what a terrible example of a mother I was for yelling at her in front of my son. OH NO SHE DID NOT JUST DO THAT!!! This woman should be fired and banned from ever working on your precious dogs ever again. Horrible groomer, atrocious customer service skills, a festering boil on the reputation of Petco. She needs to be reprimanded. Needless to say, I got my money back from the store manager who apologized (also poorly) for the groomer's behavior and for the fact that she did not call me before shaving him to let me know that was her plan. I mean, seriously, would a groomer ever think to shave Lassie bald without letting the owner know of her intent to do so?? My beautiful fluffy Labradoodle's coat is shaved bald...and I will NEVER recommend this groomer and/or grooming salon to anyone. Earlier in my review I mentioned a friend whose Doodle had been groomed by Petco. Upon telling her this story, she also confirmed that the attitude of the Petco Grooming staff was very rude and that the groomer simply complained about how much "work" it was to groom her doodle. Well, that dog is also no longer groomed at Petco...and apparently the Petco groomer thought it a better choice to "shave" my Labradoodle than to put the "work" into a proper groom for his coat. If I could post the before and after photos here, you would be mortified at the horrific job. Even his face, which was NOT shaved, nor his tail that now looks like a featherduster, is totally uneven. What excuse is there for that...and even the store manager agreed (while issuing my $71 refund) that his face was completely botched up as well. My final advice...STAY AWAY FROM THE PETCO GROOMING SALON!! read more

Whenever I go to a Petco I always go for the fish. I do a lot of personal breeding so when it comes to fish tank equipment Petco is always my go-to choice for good prices on tanks and certain types of equipment. Every once in awhile when I need to special order a particular type of fish I go to this location because it's a magnet store, which basically means that they can order more types of fish and other Aquatic Life than other Petco's. The staff is usually pretty helpful , even though they're always swamped with customers. They're not as lenient as other Petco's are when it comes to returning products , but that's more my fault for not having a receipt on hand. They do a good job at keeping their fish healthy and their tanks maintained. To someone who deals with this quite often, it's nice to see that even the large chain can do well in this area. Too many big chains let their tanks suffer and have sick fish. This place is a magnet store because they do better than most of the other Petco's. More or less, they've earned it ability to get specialized fish. The only thing that I've ever seen that doesn't get special attention are snails, but this is not particular to any location or any store in fact. Snails require specific parameters that simply can't be tailored to just them when dealing with a large amount of sales like they do. They do try their best and they do a lot better than places like PetSmart or God forbid Walmart. I'm always happy to be a customer at this location and I've gotten to know most of the staff and they have gotten to know me as well. It's definitely a place I will continue to do business with far into the future. read more
