She has great leash walking skills, responds very well to "no", will sit in "place" (her bed) and stay, and is all around a better behaved dog. We even had follow up lessons with Jonathan to make sure we know how all the training commands and techniques worked and to help us stay on top of it. In October 2024, we enrolled our two dogs (8 y/o + 2 y/o) in a 4-week board-and-train program specifically to address resource guarding. Both dogs had a history of resource guarding, which we had managed successfully, but the behavior had recently escalated and we wanted professional support. We were assured multiple times that resource guarding would be addressed through individualized obedience training. Communication during training was limited. We had to initiate contact, and updates generally indicated that the dogs were doing well. No concerns were raised to us about their behavior or suitability for the program. Upon returning home, our younger dog appeared extremely fearful and hesitant, taking nearly 15 minutes to approach us despite reassurance. During the "live demo," commands like "place" were enforced with excessive e-collar corrections. The dogs seemed confused, stressed, and did not appear to have any understanding of the commands being given. Bad manners, like jumping, were still present even during this session. When we asked how resource guarding had been addressed, the sole reason we signed up, the trainer said, "We never saw this behavior ourselves, so it wasn't addressed," without further elaboration. The dogs displayed resource guarding behaviors during this session, and she instructed us to "just use the e-collar whenever they do something you don't want," which directly contradicted advice from the manager that punishing guarding could significantly worsen it. When we raised concerns multiple times both during this session and afterward, we generally felt dismissed and were told for a long time to "let them adjust" before seeking more training. Our youngest began frequently urinating in her crate, a behavior she had never displayed before. When we asked about this, we were recommended to see a vet. They did offer another training session, but we ultimately felt it was not the right decision to continue with them. A veterinarian confirmed her urination was stress-related, consistent with the behaviors we noticed during the return session. She has since required daily anti-anxiety medication for fear-based behaviors that arose immediately after she returned home. Over a year later, their obedience is unchanged from before the program, and we have had to cope with long-term stress and anxiety for our dogs. We spent about $5,000 on a program that failed to address our primary concern and left lasting negative effects on us. We don't recommend this business and encourage anyone seeking professional training to choose a trainer whose approach is tailored to their dogs' specific needs and training goals.

We took a six week class which I felt was helpful, but he did need some basic obedience and we enrolled in that class. They taught us how to train our dog to sit , stay, wait ,place as well as learning how to go to his designated space for down and settle. I felt the instructors were excellent. I can't remember all their names, but Fab was excellent. when Rudy graduated from his class, he got a certificate and had a graduation picture taken. Right now I feel that I need to work on these basics before I enroll him in intermediate class, but when he's ready, I will definitely go back.

I wanted to let some time pass before I wrote this long review so that we could see how our puppy…read moreLucy did at home in the "real world" and how our included follow up trainings would go. I'm here to tell you that my husband and I couldn't be happier with the wonderful experience and results we have had at Wet Nose Training. We paid for the 3-week training and I'm really glad we did. Yes, it an investment to properly and thoroughly train your dog but when you think of having a well-behaved dog for the next 16-18 years, it is a sound investment. Also, this is one of those times you get what you pay for. Let me tell you, I did not see how I was going to be without my baby for 3 weeks. I kept reminding myself that we were doing this for her good so that one day she could be an off-leash dog on hikes and playing disc golf. A well-behaved dog has so many more opportunities: she can go to restaurants that allow dogs, she's welcome at other people's homes, I can trust her near children, the elderly, and other dogs. It is my saddest regret that my old dog was never trained and was poorly socialized. It has limited his life so much. Lucy got to go to Rudy's the day we picked her up! Andy is very transparent in letting you check out the environment. There is an inside work area (as well as an inside kennel room), but plenty of stimulating outdoor area for your dog to learn and practice, all surrounded by sturdy iron fencing. Once I saw the environment Lucy would be in I knew she would be safe. They only work together dogs that will be safe to work together so that your dog can develop his/her personality and confidence. I've attached pictures of our Lucy playing with a cute little friend she made there. She also went into her first heat while there and Andy and Amanda handled it perfectly professionally. We were always kept in the loop with what Lucy was working on. What made us first interview Wet Nose Training was that Andy kept getting singled out in such rave reviews at his last place of employment. I searched him out and saw that he had started his own training company. Then, when we interviewed him (we interviewed 4 other potential trainers), we found that his METHOD was the one we were looking for. As I understand it, they teach basic manners with positive reinforcement, teach leash training using a flat collar (cross between a regular collar and a prong) so that Lucy could learn what he wanted. There were also very high quality treats to reinforce good behavior. Then they add in an ecollar. That was the part I was most afraid of. On a scale of 0-99 we only needed a 12 to get her attention. She had ample opportunity to learn what was expected of her first without the ecollar before it was ever used, and it was never used without notice to her. To me, this is the most constructive way to train. It's layers of learning, like learning your alphabet before you start reading a book ;) Andy knows dogs. And Andy LOVES dogs. He truly understands their nature and gave us so much insight into Lucy, like how to watch her thought process unfold and what her "tell" is before she makes a bad choice of action. We just had a follow up the other day to iron out some of our questions so we could more accurately reinforce what Andy had taught her, and he'll be coming to our neighborhood soon so we can fine tune some of her behaviors in her natural habitat. The fact that she pauses before going through a doorway until told she can, sits when she sees another dog rather than charging them, can be put in "place" when we need her to stay still to answer the door, and leaves her cranky old brother dog alone has been such a relief. He bit my husband all the way home from Austin (where we picked him up) and then proceeded to let us know he wasn't potty trained the moment we got to the house. Shortly after, he also let us know he did not like visitors to our apartment. He'd follow them around nipping and growling at their feet relentlessly. We gave him grace for awhile thinking it was the new environment, but after he bit the Petco Trainer during the graduation of Adult 1, we knew we had to do something. From the moment that I called Karma Dog Training, I felt very comfortable. Jeff answered my call and he patiently listened to me explain the situation. He went into detail about dog aggression and referred us to Carolyn. Carolyn was prompt in helping me get scheduled for an appointment and arrived on the decided time. Our first secession was last night. The moment Carolyn arrived I could tell she was perfect for the situation. She is very soft spoken and gentle. My husband and I watched as she went through a series of potential trigger test on him. She isolated sound quickly, which never even occurred to me! Carolyn informed us that Drake's aggression is definitely fear based. She gave us exercises that we can do with our guest to help build his confidence. Also, she walked us through the steps of greeting guest, from the moment they knock on the door. We know that this will be a journey of replacing fearful situations, with positive ones, but I can tell with the tools and advice she gave us, that we have a starting foundation to build on. On a side note, we recently adopted another dog named Elena. We have not had the time to start obedience training with her, and she is only six months. Needless to say, she's quite the wiggle worm. Towards the end of the session, we let her down for the greeting the guest portion. She literally would just plop down in a sit at Carolyn's feet, and spend minutes calmly looking up at her. I was baffled. Her attention span is about two seconds. Overall, we received 10-star customer service! The whole process was fantastic, and we are looking forward to having another session. Let it be known, that I researched, and spoke to over 10 dog trainers/ behaviorists in San Antonio.. and can honestly say my experience with Karma Dog Training was the best! My husband and I have no doubt in our minds that Carolyn will be our go to trainer for any issues here on out.
