Here is my reply The reason you only see a check in 5 times in 8 months is because your staff doesn't bother to ask us for our information when we check out. I did the review this week because this was the first time your staff has spoken to us at all and I was floored that y'all actually talk. If I wasn't receptive to being asked if I needed help it was because after all this time of going into your store and now you want to speak to me, I was insulted. As far as the check out, one of the employees that day just asked for our phone number and what package of frozen treats I had chosen, duck hearts, and rung us up from our side of the counter, while the the other employee was trying to figure out the Hulu password to log into the account on the TV screen. Please do not try and insinuate that I am a liar, the customer service I have witnessed consistently is horrific and like I already stated, the only reason I return is because the brand of dog food I purchase for my babies is extremely difficult to find. I tell every fur baby parent that I meet that your store carries great product but the level of customer service that your store carries leaves so much room for improvement, to say the very least. I can genuinely say I dislike going into your store, it's always an awkward experience and hope that another store opens near by that sells the same quality products that my fur babies get You want to make it up to me?!? How about we just start with basic customer service. For example just greeting. Super simple and extremely human. It just seems like you know you will continue to make money because you carry great product so why bother being welcoming and graceful. It takes very little effort to be friendly and welcoming, and it's a shame that every visit is awkward and uncomfortable. Just an FYI, I saw your post on Facebook trying to get unfounded sympathy from your followers, or maybe retaliation for me being honest, but it is what is and I stand firm on my review. I'm goving this feedback so that your business can improve, not to hurt your feelings. My Plott Hound Koa is a very picky eater. He will go hungry before he will eat particular kibbles/food. I went to Paw Basics in desperation. They were very knowledgeable and caring and suggested several different options. After a lengthy discussion regarding budget, dog care concerns, and food options, we decided to try the The Simple Food Project brand of food. I was given several samples and purchased a small box of the food to see if Koa liked it. I also bought some dried herring snacks. This store has everything I need for my Doberman! They are so knowledgeable and attentive. If you need any help or suggestions, they will try their best to point you to the right direction. However, I recommend you do your own research on what is best for your dog/cat. I feed raw and they have a diversity of treats and meal mixers. I'm really gonna miss this store. Unfortunately, I moved away so now I'm ordering my food and everything else online. But if you're near this place or visiting in the area I highly recommend this location!! I love this store!! It's small and family owned (which is always a green flag for me. I walked in and saw immediately there was a wall of small free sample bags of kibble, which is extremely convenient. Half of the store is dog based and the other half cat based. Definitely a food based store, if I needed supplies I would likely go to Pet Supplies Plus (my favorite "chain"-like pet store). They had a large selection of dry, air-dried, freeze-dried, raw, and wet foods for cats and dogs. I especially loved the raw selection they have (savage cat, primal, instinct, etc.) and the raw frozen chews (marrow bones, duck necks, chicken feet, etc.). They also carried MANY supplements I usually can only find online (Ultra Oil, Bernies Perfect Poop, etc.) which was super convenient! They don't have the Raw-Mix Open farm kibble though which is what I mainly feed my dog though. I will be coming back for raw food, toppers, and supplements though!!!! There was parking right in front if the store which was nice and the employee was very sweet. 10/10! read more

I adore this place and the staff, especially Robin. She definitely knows what she's talking about and doesn't try to get you to spend unnecessary money, like some other pet stores around town. *cough* Kriser's *cough*. My dogs have been eating Stella and Chewy's for quite some time and they absolutely love it. I have noticed a huge difference in their coat and the activity levels of my oldest pup Harold. My middle child, Paxton, would never eat until I put him on S&C, so if you have a picky pup, I recommend this brand. They love the raw food! I have shopped here for the 5 years we have lived in San Antonio. Our dog and cat were both raised on Fromm holistic natural dried foods and when we moved here I was so glad to find a Fromm dealer so close. The owners are fantastic and knowledgeable. We started two years feeding out 17 year old kitty the Primal Raw line of food because of her age and the recommendation of the owners here. If you saw Missy, you would never guess that she was 17. It is proven that our fur babies will live longer and much healthier lives if you feed them premium and holistic natural foods. read more

First of all, I doubt you could find a more knowledgeable staff at any pet shop. They understand Dogs and Cats and they are highly up to date on their products so they are able to make the best recommendations about you pets needs. The store itself is always full of great products form pet supplies and the top foods to toys and gourmet treats. Every time I visit, I find something new. This review is really hard for me to write because I should be writing about how great this store is but I had a different kind of experience, that has left a huge hole in my life. For anyone with a dog with kidney disease, you need to read my story. My dog holly was 6 years old, who had manageable kidney disease. She was on homeopathic drops, enzymes, probiotics, and Dr. Harveys food mixed with green tripe. So for the 4 years we had her, this was her regimen, and it was going well. And her levels were staying down. Then in October of 2017, holly had to have her canine teeth removed. She slowly started drinking less, it wasn't noticeable at first, but we quickly realized we had a problem and took her to the vet. Her creantine was a little elevated, and although she was acting like she had a postnasal fistula, they couldn't see one. We started syringing water into her a few times a day. We continued with her other routine, but since her teeth removal, we had to find ways to feed her through the syringe. End of January her blood was drawn again and she was still showing higher creantine, but the BUN went down. She went on sub Q fluids to give her more water support, we continued water syringes, and I called on this store to find a raw food I could put in a blender. Robin was very nice on the phone and told me about two raw foods....her raw tripe and a slightly cooked meal. When I went to the store, her partner was there this day. I had holly in my arms and told her I was there to see these two food items. She began to push raw goat milk on me, right away. I wasn't really listening to her at first. I read the label on the tripe bag, and she brought out the goat milk. She kept pushing how this will give her calories, and she is fasting a dog who has other issues, on goat milk. I wanted to just get the food, stick with my routine that has been working for 4 years, and she just kept at it. So we walked out with goat milk. She also told me to call the company and ask about their other products that would help holly. So we started the goat milk, rotating the water and milk, from her suggestions, going up to 2 ounces a day. Holly had her second blood work, after a week of starting the goat milk and her potassium levels were up. We never had that problem before. By now the rep from answers pet food finally contacted me and he too was pushing the goat milk and fish stock. I told him all her blood work numbers. He said this would fix it for her calories and pure protein that she needs. And how to add the raw in, and how much of each. So I went to the store. Robin was there this time. I had told her hollys bloodwork numbers, that I was there for the goat milk, fish stock and raw food, and asked her opinion. This was the best stuff. Well no it isn't. As nice as these ladies are, they know nothing about kidney disease, and potassium levels. The moment I went in the second time, and had the potassium numbers in hand, she should have said "don't give this stuff to your dog." Goat milk is higher in potassium than regular milk. Fish......yeah you guessed it......high in potassium. Holly died two weeks after starting this food protocol. So here is what I now understand..... They are here to push their vendors brands. Good for your dog, or not. My holly is gone. I can not bring her back. But I can warn other pet parents...... If your dog has a condition, any condition, DO NOT listen to these people and their recommendations. They are there to sell their products. Harmful or not. Do your homework. We now have a box on a shelf with our baby in it and that's all I have left. I dumped the rest of this answers pet shit down the drain and would never ever ever recommend this stuff to anyone. If your dog has kidney disease, the potassium can go up very quickly, if you are giving them stuff that contains, you guessed it, more potassium. Holly couldn't bounce back from this huge mistake I made in listening to these people. All I have is my memories and a box of ashes. read more

My dog started having bad skin issues to the point we had to keep a cone on him to prevent him from scratching his face area. Instead of another cycle of steroids and antibiotics which would have been a bandage and not a fix to his problem, I got him off dry premium kibble and tried a raw food diet. It got overwhelming quick trying to do a homemade raw diet since it's important to balance vitamin/mineral/macro ratios to prevent additional health issues. I stumbled upon Paw Basics one day and found out from Kimbie and Robin that there are an abundance of balanced and complete raw food companies I could select from to make it easier to feed my baby. The store owners had luck with fermented raw goat milk by Answers and suggested I add it to his diet as well. I picked up a bag of Small Batch raw food(a mostly organic based company who doesn't source Factory farmed animals loaded with antibiotics and hormones and the animals are harvested humanely). Needless to say 1 year later and through a rotation of different raw food bags (I also love Answers raw food) my boy has awesome skin for a 14year old ! If they don't have something in the store you can ask them if they can order it from their distributor. I'm glad I found them, they keep track of recalls and new items on the market And I feel their prices are quite reasonable. read more
