not the first but second time going here for a nail trim and turned away. seems to be the same groomer both times with excuses. and to have the person who made the appointment with me on the phone be the one asking the questions when I got there instead of on the phone. then claimed it to be store policy but couldn't show it In a written form. the groomer Abby seems to be the only one in the whole place who has any idea what's going on and how to do her job. how is this place even open with how it's run? read more

Terrible experience with the groomers this week. Brought our dog in to be groomed on Thursday. We arrived only to be told that the haircut was a bit rough because our dog was a little squirmy, but we could bring him in Sunday for a touch up with the lead groomer. (Our dog has never had an issue being bad with groomers) We get home Thursday after his appointment to find that his tail had been cut during his groom and was bleeding. We called the store immediately and were told that they would refund us for the groom, touch him up for free, and if we needed to bring him to the vet, we would be reimbursed for his treatment. We bring him to the vet the next morning to be treated for his tail injury. Vet says the injury is from a cut/razor burn. They treated it, gave him a shot and sent us home with medication and special wipes for his tail. Sunday afternoon, we bring our dog back to petco for his appt with the lead groomer only to find that the appt has been switched back to the groomer who cut our dog the first time. We declined because we were told that our dog would be groomed by someone with more experience. (AKA the lead groomer). They then tell us, we can either come back another time or use the previous groomer. We declined and asked for the refund. After processing our refund, the cashier takes the itemized receipt from our vet, and says that the store will contact us in the next couple days to get us reimbursed for our dogs visit. They said it couldn't be taken care of today because it was the weekend. An hour after sending us home, they send us a text saying that they "reviewed footage" and there was no possible way that the injury could have been from them and that they would not be covering our vet bill anymore. They even said, "he didn't appear to be in any pain in the video" so it couldn't have been them. We sent them timestamped pictures of our dogs bleeding tail and then called them. They repeated the same excuse, saying that they couldn't possibly be responsible and it was now out of their hands. Now our dog has an injured tail, a bad haircut, and we're out ~$135.00 for a vet visit that was supposed to be covered by Petco. Super disappointed. We've been part of their membership for a year and have almost exclusively shopped petco for our pets supplies. Probably won't be going back anytime soon. read more

The puppy training is nothing of the kind. You take your puppy to their 1 hour class and they teach YOU how to train and work with them when you're home. They don't do any training. If I just wanted instructions on how I could train my puppy I would just watch YouTube videos for free. read more

I don't take a lot of time to review places unless it's important, or a really bad/good experience. This Petco at The Ridge in Rochester has a great group of employees and deserve a big shout out. I didn't realize how much I should appreciate them until I had to go to a competitor in the area for something they were out of for days (beyond their control - crickets) I was not treated nearly as well at this local competitor as I am at Petco. Anyone I've ever encountered here has been nothing short of polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. We bought a tree frog from the Petco in Portsmouth (also good customer service there!) and when buying more things in Rochester for him, these ladies have been so helpful as far as alternative foods to get, accessories, etc. They even taught us some things we weren't aware of. The store is always clean and their animals look very well taken care of. And best of all the enployees here genuinely come across as loving their jobs which is great to see with how things are in the job market these days. My problem isn't with the store itself- if you're just looking to buy things or wander around with your pet, you'll get the same experience here as at literally every other Petco location. Someone, however, needs to inform the groomers that they are there to do the jobs requested of them, and that they are not vets. We walked out of what was supposed to be a simple nail trim and buff having been basically told we're terrible pet owners (despite none of the "problems" she mentioned ever being brought up by my dog's vet- ya know, the person who actually knows what they're talking about). I was refused a goldfish just because i didn't have my tank set up, never been refused an animal over something like that, we were planning on setting it up as soon as we got home with the fish. What a waste of a long ride to rochester, just trying to get my brother a fish for his birthday. Everything and everyone else there was very nice but this one women ruined my whole trip. Plenty of people come in to buy fish to feed their bigger animals and aren't given any issues but i'm given them for trying to care for one, very disappointing. read more

My boyfriend and I went with our 4 year old daughter to replace her fish that had died. The two girls in that department that came to assist us were very rude trying to rush us making side comments, Laughing and whispering until my husband and I said something. Holly is an incredible groomer. We go weekly with our Shih Tzu and she is so loving and caring. He is always happy to see her and she does a fabulous job. We travel over an hour just to see her. Won't go anywhere else. Highly recommend! read more

We love our local petco. Joanne is the onsite trainer, she's amazing. She really tries to make each session customized, and will take matters into her own hands when outsiders try to distract the dog in session. Monica and Kim are the groomers who work so hard and are extremely friendly and caring. We always bring our dog Miller to petco! Other employees are always helpful and willing to go the extra mile. Have had my yellow lab bathed here quite a few times with no problems. The last time, however, she came out of there with a bad limp on one leg and a bleeding paw on another leg from a nail being clipped too closely. She was also not totally dry nor was she brushed out adequately. One problem I've notice is that each time I go there, I never see the same groomers. The staff apparently changes very frequently and some are good; some are not. The retail store is way overpriced. You can buy pet items in competing stores for quite a bit less. As far as grooming goes, I would avoid this place. read more
