I would classify my experience as horrific. I went to a groomer there her name is Allie. I told her I wanted the same haircut as the last time for one of my dogs she more or less butcher her. She's a Tulia Shih Tzu mix, which, as we know is a long haired dog. My dog is now bald. I am thinking of suing. Never are we greeted when we come in, the employees are always annoyed when asked for assistance, and we are never thanked for shopping. I also used to take my dog here for grooming. The groomer cut a few nails too short and didn't say anything. I noticed when we got into the car and there was blood everywhere. This started a fear for him to have his nails clipped. He would literally scream like he was being tortured. We now go to Petco and he is getting much better with it. read more

Called to see if this store had any crickets in any sizes, stating I'd like to avoid a trip there in case they were sold out. I was immediately told they don't do stock checks. The girl acted like it was some big favor or hard task to simply have someone check and that she'd have to go find someone that can find out. The store isn't that big to go look into the container they jeep their crickets in! This call was a Monday, around 10am or so. I made sure to make eye contact on the way in passing any employees. Almost 5 minutes went by and not a single one came by and asked if I needed help, finding everything okay etc. You know, the most basic of customer service skills. Very little talk or interaction from whoever finally showed up (and this isn't the first time I've shopped and had this experience). I could see if it was a busy Sat or Sun and they were short staffed, but I went a little less than an hour after calling to go buy them and the store wasn't busy at all, and there were enough people on the salesfloor when I went in. I will stick with Petco where they really go above and beyond, are always working, smiling, greeting and thank their customers. And they're very knowledgeable about all of the products and animals they carry too. This store seems like it's literally just a paycheck to them. Management needs to have a talk with their employees at Petsmart. I don't give my business to places with mediocre customer service and will not be back. Three times, and you're out. read more

We brought our Chihuahua here for the past four years to get her nails trimmed because they were great. Now all the good people have left and the groomers they have now don't have a clue. We caught one groomer pointing her scissors at my dog in her face, then they couldn't get my dog off the table they were too afraid to touch her. I usually like this store, especially for buying tropical fish, and far prefer it over the PetCo in Dover. It's generally clean and well stocked and there is almost always someone waiting to help me in the fish department, and the fish are generally healthy. Today was a sobering disappointment however. It was the first time I'd been in since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I noticed as I entered that the cashier was not wearing a mask. I almost turned around and left right then, but she was behind a plexiglass shield so I proceeded in. When I arrived in the fish department the entire area was fenced off with Ex-pens, which prevented customers from entering the area (how do you choose fish you can't see?). There were signs everywhere alerting customers about restricted access to the small animals due to the pandemic, but once again the clerk manning that section was not wearing a mask, and this time there was nothing but those Ex-pens to protect her or the customers. The clerk was helping another couple (again, maskless), with no apparent attempt at social distancing. When it was my turn to be helped (which took longer than it should have) it turned out the store didnt even have the fish species I came in for. I bought a couple Fish of another type (thankfully somewhat generic, since I couldn't get at the tanks to make a personal choice) trying as best I could to stay 6 feet away from the maskless clerk when she handed me the bag. At the checkout, no one was wearing masks, although there was some attempt by the customers to maintain a 6ft distance. The customer ahead of me asked about an online order and the (maskless) cashier came out from behind the counter (passing fairly close to the customers) to get and bring the order. When it was my turn to check out I found that I had to move a bit beyond the plexiglass shield to use the credit card terminal, and the terminal was the type that required me to touch the pad to answer questions. As I left the store the next customer came to the same terminal with no sanitation in between. All in all I was disappointed and somewhat appalled at the lack of precautions being taken by the store and I doubt I'll be back until the pandemic is over. read more

The grooming service is terrific! Very nice girls and they gave my mom's Pomeranian just what we were looking for! Very clean and pleasant atmosphere. The store is also a good mid)size with adequate selection. They have what you need, and the staff is generally very friendly and informed. read more

This is definitely a fun place to bring my dog, and the employees are always friendly and helpful. My only complaint is about PetSmart in general, and not this specific store- I can't stand that there are so many China-made products, and so many of them are "mysteriously" on sale after PetSmart's recent announcement that they would no longer be carrying those products. But as long as you are aware of what you're buying, this is a great place to shop, or just to take your dog and browse. read more

I stop at Petsmart often to get the dog some treats, toys and anything else to keep him busy. I stopped at Walmart a few days ago, hoping to not even need anything here.... but there selection was terrible and they had barely anything I regularly purchase. While this store is the smallest Petsmart I've been to, to date, it still had everything I was looking for, and friendly service too. The lady at checkout was friendly, and a few other employees around the store stocking and asking customers if they needed help were also friendly. The real annoyance of this place is the prices. They seemed a good amount higher than the Petsmarts in Massachusetts (or maybe things are just on sale more often down in Mass.). Grooming available and classes seemed to be in session when I stopped in. Not the best, but then again not the worst either. I would come back if I was in the area again, but would suggest Petco in the Ridge Marketplace more, as that area seems better designed (and from the look, seems it would be much larger) and is more convenient to where I'm staying. 3 stars for the Rochester Petsmart. We brought our Boxer puppy here for obedience classes over a year ago, it cost well over $120 and it was pretty much a waste of time and money. Had this been a one on one class, or even 2-3 dogs in the class it would have been much better. Our class had anywhere between 5-7 dogs in it, depending on the week and if someone was "returning for socialization purposes." It was chaotic and stressful not only for our dog, but for us as well. The trainer was good, but I just feel like there shouldn't be that many dogs in a class together, especially in the small room they provide for training. Also, its glassed in, so you have the nosey shoppers who stand at the glass, which also gets the dogs all wound up and distracted. As for the store itself, its great, they have a huge selection of toys, most of which are not available at Petco, their prices are a little bit higher than Petco, but I'm willing to pay the price since they have toys that my dog won't destroy. They also have a decent "clearance" section for dog toys as well, just beware of the "made in China" products. The employees are great, always super friendly and helpful. read more

They have worked with me to try to keep up inventory levels on my cats' "go to" brand which is Simply Nourish Chicken and Duck Stew. It has a sound nutritional profile, superior to many of the premium brands. read more

The staff working in the fish department are completely clueless. He couldn't answer any of my betta fish questions and recommended a male betta and two platies for the 3.5 gallon tank I bought. When one platy dies 3 days later, I went back for a water test reading and when he said my pH was low, he had to read in the brochure what he would need to sell me to fix it. Then I went to Petco, had a second water test and it was perfect. She was able to answer my questions thoroughly, and she also told me that a male betta and two platies are too much for a 3.5 gallon tank (which, again, Petsmart had recommended for my tank). I'll be sticking with Petco for my fish needs going forward. read more
