I took my recently adopted 9 year old black lab to Dennis for training after seeing a flyer. We…read moreenrolled in "basic manners" which my boy was sorely lacking, and this consisted of a 6 week course for $110.00. The first session is without dogs and Dennis spent an hour going over what I was looking for in a class, what we would go over, and some good old canine psychology. I felt very optimistic after leaving the facility, which is a decent sized building with a fenced area out back for potty breaks and outdoor activities. The facility was newly opened, very clean and welcoming with pictures of his old dogs on the walls, agility equipment, and doggy exercise balls. Why does Dennis get five stars? Not only because his positive training methods actually WORKED on my rambunctious, stubborn pooch but because he is very passionate about what he does, and it shows in how he speaks, how he relates to the dogs and their owners. Any questions he will thoroughly answer to his fullest ability and never make you feel like an idiot or that you're wasting his time. He simply loves what he does and that enthusiasm makes for a great trainer. I wanted compassionate training, not pinch collars, shock collars or other aggressive methods and I was extremely happy with the results. We worked not only on basic manners, sits, stays and such, but also some more specific problems I was having with my dog who I nicknamed affectionately (and sometimes not so) Humper McHumperstein. It is a habit that's not going to go away, but I've learned ways to distract, correct and praise good behavior when it does happen, making it manageable. We also worked on his recall which is spot on now, making it a pleasure to go to the beach or out hiking and be able to let him off--knowing I can control him. His recommendations for combating his separation anxiety also helped, along with ways to tire him out and keep him calm. The facility also offers weekly classes not only for obedience, puppy training, etc. but also a "grab bag" class that mixes the Exerball, noise work, agility, etc. which we are starting this week. There are also first aid training classes available for those in the pet profession, or just us regular old owners who want to know what to do if something disastrous were to happen. With Central Oregon being such a dog friendly place with a high per capita of dogs, (many unruly as I'm sure all of us have encountered before), Dennis is a great resource new owners or people like myself--the frustrated dog owner. Because, if your dog ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!

I had already had a private trainer, but then he was ready for the next step....school with someone who has an amazing play areas for the dogs where the dogs learn to socialize, but with someone who is a trainer and teaches dogs how to play in a safe way. I know no other place anywhere that literally does training for your dog while they play. Commands like "wait," "back" "break" and many others. She watches the dogs behavior when they play so they do not get too rough with each other. She is an expert in interpreting dogs behavior. She also trains the dogs in groups as seen below. But all of this is done with positive training and kindness for she truly loves the dogs. For warmer days, she has kid pools for the dogs, and for really cold days there is an inside play area. I almost worried they were having too much fun and wouldn't want to come home (ok, not really but they were pretty comfortable there). April and Scott and their pup, Smidge are fantastic and treat our boys like family. Smidge is the most welcoming and gracious pup I've ever met and she makes all new comers feel welcome immediately (our boy, Joey, has a major crush on her!). During their stay, we get lots of updates which we love because we miss them terribly when we travel. The Sullivans are very professional but also very warm and kind. I know our boys are in good hands and I can't imagine leaving them anywhere else.

Every visit was handled with so much patience, kindness, and attention to detail, and I always knew Cricket was in good hands. One of my favorite things was receiving the adorable pictures after each grooming appointment. Those photos have become treasured memories, and I'm so grateful to have them now. Sadly, Cricket recently passed away, so we won't be making any more grooming appointments.
